Leaving the Black Bear Diner in a food coma! Ate dinner here tonight for the first time with my husband and toddler daughter. Was concerned there might be a wait since it's so new, but we walked right in around 6:45pm. Our server, Letisa, was exceptionally friendly & interacted a lot with our child! She was a very good waitress. Portions are huge. As far as the food, it was pretty good. Not life-altering, but that's ok! I had the chicken and waffle. The waffle was the best part. The breading on the chicken has a sweet component and I didn't personally care for that. My daughter had a kid's burger, but mostly ate on one of our sides of mac & cheese. For a diner on the interstate, I wasn't offended. Had the eggs Benedict with bacon, spinach and avocado. I asked for additional sauce and it was smothered. Husband and I ate at this restaurant last night and this morning for breakfast. Service was friendly and fast for both meals. Food was plentiful both times for the dinners, we both ordered the "Little Less" meals which consisted of a meat and two sides. Husband had pot roast, mashed potatoes/ gravy and carrots & broccoli. I had the same except my meat was meat loaf. Veggies were a little over cooked and meat loaf had the edges cooked too much. Flavor was good and pot roast was very lean. Breakfast was California Benedict for me and scrambled eggs , bacon and toast for husband. Again, plentiful portions. Food was warm but not hot. I went here with my Hubs for breakfast last wk. I was blown away by the smoked brisket and eggs. The brisket was delicious. My hubs got a diff plate so we could share. I tried his Cajun prime rib and eggs very good also. But he loved my smoked brisket too. I usually get coffee with my breakfast but this was actually like having bbq. So coffee wasn't a good combo with them. The Smokey flavor was so good. Our waiter at Italian pizza & pasta told me I had to try your pancakes. Our waitress suggested them too. Having a big breakfast I just ordered one to try them. Let me say as good as the meats were. I would skip that and order the pancakes with blueberries & strawberries next time by themselves. My hubs who has no sweet tooth whatsoever. I have never made or bought him a birthday cake in 16 years for this reason. He loved the pancakes too!!! We agreed they were the best pancakes we have ever had. The only thing I would change is the hash browns & cubed potatoes. They were greasy & overcooked. We didn't eat them.
