I like big portions and I cannot lie. You other Yelpers can't deny. I've been here about 4 times now and I've liked it every time. Very consistent with service and good food. Quick note about their coffee: one Wow is their coffee. I like to drink coffee black and I found out that they grind their beans right before they brew it. They also use Java City's Seattle Blend. That's why it tastes so good. I asked the 3rd time I was there because I was so shocked at the coffee quality. Most restaurants don't buy quality beans, but Java City Seattle blend is better than Starbucks. And they brew it better than Starbucks does. I go to Starbucks for a cup of regular coffee black, so I know the difference. The food: Good not great, but you don't leave hungry. I got their hungry bear chicken fried steak... I couldn't finish it. Good stuff. Atmosphere is loud, family friendly. Music sounds like its from the 60s-90s. Restrooms: Well stocked and clean. My family will be back! read more

I ordered the slow roasted pot roast. Thinking a home cooked meal should be good. It was the worst dinner I have ever had. The texture of the meat was terrible, mushrooms were old and black, carrots served on the side along with broccoli. Mashed potatoes and potatoes along with the roast. The only things good was the Pepsi and corn bread muffin. So unhappy and my bill came to$25.74. Not including the tip. My server was very kind and attentive so I could not blame her for the poor meal because she is a very good server. She just needs to find a job at a better restaurant. read more

This is probably one of the best places for college students or people on budget! You get the buck for what you pay for. You spend approximately 10-15 dollars for a meal for TWO. The food here comes LOADED and it generally is for one but it's so much I'd say you can split by two, or if you have the appetite then wooo! It's a great price for great food too! Decent little diner, I've been here a couple times with friends. The Chorizo Scrambles my favorite- it's just not as spicy as I'd like. The Sweet Cream waffles are decent. And apparently the steak & eggs are delish! Definitely a good little breakfast spot- Never had lunch here, so I can't speak for that. I've bitten my tongue far too long. The short version of it is this: we waited over an hour for our food and only provided one coffee refill. I am generally a very patient individual however its time that I address this as this has become a recurring theme. We threw in the towel at about the 75-minute mark and went up to pay for our coffees. The gal who rang us up was obviously disinterested as she displayed no concern as to why we were leaving prior to receiving our meal. Not an apology and not even a "the coffees on us" or inquiring as what the issue was. we arrived prior to the lunch rush which did us no good. My family and I have been coming here for years.... but I am ensuring that changes as of today. Aside from our hashbrowns always being burnt, the quality of service has severely declined. We stopped here on our way home from a vacation. The diner was clean, the service was friendly, and the food was tasty. we have eaten at other Big Bear locations and the good is consistently good for diner food. We went just before 9am on a Saturday morning and it wasn't too busy yet and we got seated right away. The biscuits are huge and delicious. My omelette was not greasy, and even the sourdough toast was good (not the typical soggy tasteless diner toast). We had our three year old son and 8 month old daughter with us. It was kid friendly. I went in to Black Bear Diner with a friend, and we really enjoyed the ambience: kind of like going to a rustic lodge up in Idaho! I love looking at the gifts in the entry way. Well, anyway, my favorite entree is the tri-tip. Sometimes I get the "little lighter" version, and sometimes I get the full version. It's always fork tender and seasoned to perfection. Debbie, our server, is a warm and cordial lady and made us feel right at home. Now, with the tri tip I always choose green beans and mashed potatoes. Can't really go wrong with that! I called before the graduation and spoke to Scott; he told me that unfortunately they don't do reservations, but he'll try his best to accommodate my party of 20 after the commencement. We are out of towners. We went at lunch on Labor Day but ordered breakfast. I didnt really like my meal. I had biscuits and gravy with a qtr ham steak and scrambled eggs. Ham and eggs were good. The reason I didn't like it bc the biscuits are not biscuits. The biscuits are 3"-4" thick and very bread like. I prefer biscuits like Hardees/Carls Jr or Popeyes Chicken. Now my wife's meal was on target with good home fries w/onions and bell peppers. She even had some slices of avocado. I could give two stars bc my meal disappointment but my wifes was pretty good. Not the best experience. Our waitress seemed annoyed from the moment we sat down. We had only stopped by for coffee and dessert, pie was of poor quality and coffee was filled only once. Hot chocolate was 1/3 cup full and no additional refills were allowed. Fries were ordered but never delivered. it has been about 3 or 4 years since I went to BBD and for the last few months ive been on a biscuit and gravy kick...Ive always loved them but its really hard to find someone to prepare the gravy right...you have to have good amount of seasoning along with a ton of black pepper and good little bits of sausage in every bite....on top of that the biscuits need to be really soft...every time I go out to breakfast I try their biscuits and gravy and if its not good I don't go...since it had been so long since I had gone to BBD, I decided to try them again...I did remember how good their biscuits were, I just didn't remember the gravy...I ordered eggs over medium, country potatoes, sausage and biscuits and gravy plus a med oj...I paid about $20 for that....first of all the eggs were rubbery...they were not cooked over medium...the potatoes were way overcooked and the gravy was bland...no sausage meat in their at all...no pepper either...AT ALL!!....it was not worth even remotely for what I paid for...the crazy part in all of this is that best biscuits and gravy come from....ready for it?????? drumroll.....MCDONALDS....can you believe it? Im dead serious with this one...they have the perfect amount of seasoning, sausage bits and its super perppery....so amazingly good...no sit down restaurant (at least here) can compete...I get the 2 biscuit and gravy..2 hash browns...med oj and then I come home and make a packet of grits...which is about $.16 per packed...with that amount included its $11...a ton better for a ton cheaper....I'm done going back to this place.. read more

Couldn't put zero stars so I put one. I got the chicken and waffles. I'll start with the chicken, which is a fried chicken breast fillet. The breading was flavorless, same goes for the chicken. No salt nor pepper, the chicken was cooked decently though. The waffle was just as bad, the batter was doughy and also had no flavor. I've had great service and good food everytime I have been here. Granted it's not the best food ever but everything I've ordered has been great. My first time here I had the Denver omelette, which I got really sick a few hours after eating. I brushed it off as a fluke because I really did like the food so my boyfriend and I came back again to try the lunch menu. I've had the caesar chicken salad and beef taco salad (minus the shell) along with their cornbread. I have also sampled my boyfriend's burgers before too. Wasn't a huge fan of the caesar salad but I loved the taco salad! The cornbread is always hot and fresh. I've always wanted to try their desserts but my boyfriend has always told me no. Haha. Smart. Great comfort food! The portions are HUGE and the food consistently tastes good every time. The pancakes are awesome, already sweet and with the syrup they are even better! I recommend the prime rib after 4pm and the volcano if you want breakfast. My wife always gets the bobs big bear burger! Service has been great so far, always a go to for our family. read more
