Scott's Diner in Merced is always a win, and today was no exception. We were on our way to a hike in Mariposa and wanted a Mexican breakfast that would actually power us through the trail--Scott's delivered in every way. We asked if they could do a special order: a burrito deconstructed, with over-easy eggs and the tortillas on the side. They were totally accommodating, and it was exactly what I was craving--fresh, filling, and seriously delicious. I went for the blueberry pancakes, and wow: they were enormous, fluffy, packed with real blueberries, and basically the perfect pre-hike fuel. And the coffee? Amazing, as always. I meant to take a picture of my food, but honestly I accidentally didn't--because everything looked so good that I dug in immediately. And even without the photo evidence, the presentation and plating were incredible, just like they always are. This place has my heart. Hole in the wall local place near the more southern area of hotels in Merced, and a welcome break from mediocre hotel breakfast. Staff here are friendly, there's a solid bit of history and kitsch in the very back on the way to the restrooms, giving character to what is otherwise a decidedly local, low-frills experience. The steak salad (was it a steak taco salad?) looked quite tasty but also ordinary so I skipped it and stuck with breakfast; the sausage and eggs were very much unremarkable, but at least the hashbrowns were nicely pan fried and the eggs were a large portion. Biscuit and gravy reinforced the former impression, but again, hard to complain-- did the job. This place is super affordable and the overall verdict is a solid local place that's easy to appreciate but hard for me to say I would actually get excited about. read more

We were in Merced for work and one of the guys on the yard recommended Scott's he said they have great breakfasts. He couldn't attest to lunch, which is what we wanted, but decided to try it anyway. Waitress was amazing, Jordan. Very friendly and prompt, she checked with us after we had started eating to be sure everything was good. The food was wonderful! My coworker and I both ordered the diner burger with garlic fries and our boss got the fish and chips. The burger and fries were great! Big portions. My boss said the fish and chips were good as well. It's an old building but they take good care of it. Keeping things clean. If I come to Merced again I'll look forward to coming back read more

Had to do a revisit of Scott's Diner and the breakfast was still plentiful and delicious. The food portions rival those larger breakfast shops and are served nice and hot. The service well when the owner himself waits on your table sign me up. With this type of leadership the staff is a real treat ensuring you have all you need. Now the old adage of "don't judge a book by its cover" fits perfectly here, this is a neighborhood eatery with every piece of decor in this place has a story. Does the place need a little TLC ? It's crazy that I've driven by this restaurant so many times and I've never tried it. Well a few weeks ago my girl and I gave it a try and it's definitely one of the best breakfast spots to go to. Definitely feels local and the service is great but the food is even better!!! Love their pancakes! Finally tried their breakfast and HOLY MOLY! California Eggs Benedict are 10/10. My pancake loving family said they have the best pancakes they have ever had in their lives! Biscuit and Gravy and the country potatoes are delicious! My husband gets the Big Country breakfast and can't ever order anything else its so good. Portions are huge and service is always friendly! We go almost every weekend. The only thing that could make this restaurant better is updating the bathrooms. They are pretty bad and I prefer not to use them there. I also like separate boys/girls bathrooms, I don't ever want to share a bathroom with men/boys. read more

Our first time visiting Scotts Diner. We had breakfast at this charming diner when we got into town. I had bacon and eggs with hash browns and a biscuit with gravy. My husband ordered the all meat omelet with hash browns and a biscuit. Both of us greatly enjoyed our meals! The food is fresh and delicious. Our server and staff were very friendly and made feel very comfortable and welcomed. The diner is decorated in an old school "mom and pop" type of vibe. I loved the casual and comfortable environment. I would highly recommend Scotts if you are looking for a good solid meal that is very reasonably priced. We definitely got great food at a great price. First time stopping on the way to The City and glad we did. Service was fast and really good. All of our Breakfast selections were served hot and came out of the kitchen fast. I had pancakes (really tasty) and husband had steak and eggs. He would have liked a thicker steak but flavor was great. My eggs weren't exciting as they were made how I don't like them; pooled on the flat top, cooked and then chopped up with the spatula. I prefer fluffy eggs scrambled and cooked together. We came here for a Labor Day brunch and saw them handle the most chaotic rush - beautifully! The service was pleasant and attentive the whole time. The owner was there helping out and was exceptionally friendly. It's a humble, tiny, little joint by the freeway, but it's always clean. The booths are comfortable. The TV play old episodes of Scooby Doo and funny animal videos. They keep the place cool - even on very hot days! The Benedict never disappoints (I've had it a few times) and it's available all day, as is the whole menu and then some!
