Since it is Friday during Lent, my wife and I decided to try their all you can eat fish special. It was $17.99 for the meal. Cole slaw could have used more sauce, but the fries, muffin, and fish were all awesome. I thought I'd be able to eat multiple orders of fish, but I was full after only one re-order. Worst freaking experience and service ever. Black Bear ruined my mom's mother's day breakfast that ended being lunch. We were first told wait time was 30-35mins, but we ended up waiting for over 50mins. We understood it was busy, so we were okay. The thing that was incredibly frustrating was our waitress "Odi" and a random older man (not sure if he was a manager). We waited over a freaking hour for our food. Several people that came in after us had their food before us. We were really patient until the random older man (maybe manager) came saying without context that his kitchen was "pfff" and did some hand motions. Im guessing he was trying to say that they were backed up and said our food would be out shortly. Mind you we had already been waiting for over an hour. Our food came out 30mins later. All while our "waitress" kept avoiding our table and would randomly say your food will be out shortly 3 different times within the span of 1 1/2 hours. All they did for us was give us a lousy sorry, a bill, and some shitty as services. I am absolutely livid about this. You guys need better management. We visited this location on 9/12/21 This was her first time at this location coming for breakfast, well a late breakfast around 12 PM we decided to make our way to Turlock for food ended up deciding on blackbear and we were not disappointed in our choice for The afternoon. Upon entering the building we were greeted by the host who then seated us at our table. We got the pleasure of having Tanner as our waiter for the day and I can honestly say he was a fantastic server. He made sure to give us the appropriate amount of time for us to find what we needed on the menu and he constantly checked in on us throughout our meal. Fantastic job on hiring friendly servers to give fantastic service. Let's talk food we were a party of three and we ordered multiple items off the menu; I ended up ordering the Grizz and everything about my meal was delicious and the pancakes were soft and warm my toast was crispy. my eggs were cooked perfectly and the hashbrowns were delightful. My husband ordered the scramble bowl with a side of French toast which he said were delicious my mother ordered another meal which I'm not too sure what it was called but she also said she really enjoyed her cinnamon roll pancakes. they were a bit sweet but that's what you get when you order cinnamon roll pancakes. Overall our food was very good everything was hot and if we needed anything extra tanner made sure to accommodate us in our request I would honestly come back to this location again if the service continues to be this fantastic. read more

I had $60 worth of food delivered to me. What a disaster. The chorizo breakfast burrito was so dry. They gave a tiny little cup of salsa on the side. It wasn't even filled up all the way it was probably a 1 ounce cup. The pictures make it look like there's a salsa and melted cheese and juicy burrito, but it was nothing like that at all. It was horrible. I also ordered a BLT chicken club sandwich. They didn't even toast the white bread it was on soggy white bread. It had no mayonnaise. The chicken was rubbery and really thin, and it didn't even go across the whole sandwich same with the bacon when you could find a bite and the avocado was already brown. I ordered coleslaw, but I can't review it because they sent me fruit instead. Instead of french fries I also ordered hashbrowns on the side and they were not cooked through and they had zero seasoning on them. Big disappointment I do not recommend them. read more

I normally enjoy Black bear, it has been my favorite diner ever since I discovered it a few years ago back. However today's experience change my opinion. I understand Sunday's are especially busy for diners as most families go out to eat today, but four tables received their food before my table even got our order. We asked our waitress for the status of our food, which she originally said it would be 5-7 minutes but it took an additional 30mins to receive our order. The manger did comp our drinks but it doesn't seem just after waiting about an hour for our food. Not to mention I felt like my food wasn't even seasoned, even after adding salt pepper and hot sauce did the food finally taste like something. I recently visited this establishment on Sunday, March 23. My brother and sister in law recommended to my family and myself. We were a party of 10. We arrived and had a wait of about 10 to 15 minutes, which was not too bad of a wait. We were seated and greeted in a timely manner. Our server was very polite and friendly. We received our beverages and she took our order. Approximately 10 minutes after, the fire alarm starts ringing! The restaurant is packed and we all calmly sit waiting for employees or managers to inform us of how they want to proceed with their protocol. Not a single staff member is coming out to inform us if it IS an emergency or false alarm. Customers start getting up and leaving, all the while, as a former server and bartender myself, I notice that I hadn't seen a single employee for approximately 15 minutes. I then notice a busser coming in to the dining room and has part of our order. He informed us that it indeed was a false alarm and that they are trying to turn off the alarm. Then a different server, Tanner, brings out 3 more of our dishes and sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience and thanked us for staying. Also that 10 people from their staff left. Every table in the restaurant was dirty and needed to be cleared. After approximately 30 to 40 minutes, alarm has been shut off and I imagine it was the manager, finally comes out and apologized for the inconvenience, but never came out to clear the building for safety purposes!!!! I understand that we didn't have to stay, but the fact that the staff abandoned ship, so to speak and the manager was no where to be found, is downright disgusting!!!! Towards the end of our meal, after Tanner took care of us, our original server magically shows up to collect HER reward (tip) which my brother and sister in law picked up the check. She nonchalantly informed us that we received 30% off. It's probably a decent place, but when you see how the management runs his team in a situation like that, it speaks volumes!!! I hope that the higher up people read this and takes the proper avenues to rectify the issues. I forgot to mention the food. The food was about 75%. There were things forgotten and some of our food was delivered cold. Again, I understand that it was our decision to stay and wait, but when you can clearly see and smell, no problem whatsoever, you would have expected that the food would come out hot, especially seeing that we were the only ones there. I noticed that there is one of these restaurants in Tucson, I may give that one an opportunity to revive my thoughts, because I would hope that they vet their managers better and instill a protocol for fire alarms, whether it is false or not. read more

We looked down and realized the menu prices are ridiculous and BLACK BEAR TURLOCK IS GOUGING THEIR CUSTOMERS. 23.00 FOR THE CHICKEN FRIED STEAK BREAKFAST I JUST HAD 2 WEEKS AGO IN MODESTO BLACK BEAR FOR UNDER 18.00. We go there to Modesto 3-4 as a month for breakfast get outstanding service by all and great food cooked the way we ask. Turlock Black Bear can kiss my ass never again will we step foot in this place that as others have said smells as a shithole sewage factory. We will continue to go to Modesto but F;#$ this location!!!!!! Overpriced, shit service, and smell of sewage. YUMMMMMM. Do yourself a favor and go check out the location in Modesto you won't regret it. Based on RB's review my wife and I tried the Turlock location. I'm glad we did. First thing I noticed was how friendly the staff is. Several managers were making sure everything was running smoothly. Our waiter, Sinharib, was awesome. Pleasant, friendly and on the ball. The other wait staff made sure water and iced tea were kept filled. I noticed they all helped each out, regardless of whether they were assigned to the table. Food was very good. My fried chicken was crispy and tender on the inside. Fries were a little soggy. My wife's prime rib was excellent. Enjoyed the veggies. I was bummed when Cool Hand Luke's closed but I think I'm going to really enjoy Black Bear Diner! read more

I gotta say, I am extremely disappointed with our experience at Black Bear in Turlock California this morning. Hubby and I ordered the corned beef hash, and eggs. I'll be had his with biscuits and gravy and I had mine with pancakes. The only edible of our breakfast was hubby's biscuit and my pancakes. We ordered our eggs over medium and one side was so overcook Debbie turned brown while the other side was white though the eggs was over medium. What was worse was that the cored beef was so bland, the cooks seems to not know what they are doing. What tops it off was I ordered with with my breakfast, and it was one of the worst things I have ever had. A package grit tasted better than what they served. Unfortunately, hubby didn't have breakfast because he only ate a couple of bites and wasn't able to finish his meal. I on the other hand, sucked it up and ate the eggs in a little bit of the corn beef hash. Like I said, the only thing that was edible, was the pancake, which I ate in a little bit of the fresh fruits. Everything else was hard. We did ask for a manager to express our dissatisfaction and evidently, no management was on the clock. It's really sad. When blackbear first opened up in our area, they serve great food. Black Bear Diner has made a name on one signature Item. That's right, Breakfast!. You mess that up, you El sucko. This day Dec 17th, it was not a Black Bear diner. It was Romper's room. And Ms. Nancy was nowhere to be found. Eggs were asked to be over EAZY. They came hard as a hockey puck. The table setting had doll house-size forks which means small. I could not believe it. The servers were wearing holes in closes, and when I asked for the Manager the Assist. Manager came to my table (Travis ), and I was shocked because he looked like he had just returned from Grateful Dead Concert or Cypress hill. When I made known the issues I had, they were apologetic and offered new eggs, but the midget forks said they have many complaints about them, well, Hello! what are you going to do about it? The cooks need Training, I know it is hard to get good staff to work this day, I get it; however, Weekends are your biggest times, are they not? Ours was not a good experience, so I am taking the time to review so the management will know and take corrective actions. It took 15 minutes to be adequately acknowledged and seated. Then, we had random preoccupied servers who did not do simple tasks, like refilling coffee, bring a side, etc. My food was not warm or "fresh," but tough. They never returned to our table to check on us and didn't have time to ask when our receipt was quickly dropped off at our table. When I personally walked the tag to the front counter to pay (hoping that someone in this place would care about our experience), the transaction was rushed and apparently that they could care less about our time there. This place was obviously understaffed and it was apparent in their attitudes and food. It's a very disappointing thing when you don't eat your food and multiple random "servers" don't notice or care. For the ridiculously overpriced experience of eating out these days, I would hope for decent service. read more

We placed an online order for pickup this morning. Garbage service. From the Manager to the cashier attending on the counter. My husband gets there and asks for the pickup order and cashier says they don't have it. The order was put behind the counter somewhere so they lost the order. When they bring out the order they still get the order wrong. Eggs were raw and missing items. Then the Manager comes out and we ask for a refund and simply says "Oh, you have to do it online I can't help you" and just walks away. So no help whatsoever. Unfortunately the one they brought out did not have chorizo but I was so hungry I didn't ask him to take it back. When he did come back to check on us I told them that it was all good but there was no chorizo. He apologized and asked to take it back but I was already halfway done and told him no. Very disappointing visit to black bear. Was moderately busy, Saturday morning around 1045. We ordered 2 burgers with juice and coffee. Waited 40 mins, then I walked by the kitchen to see about 30 dishes backed up on the line. When we got our food it had obviously been sitting a while. Fries were cold and soggy, burgers were cold and gross. We saw our server twice in those 40 mins with no drink refills. People who came in way after us got their food at the same time as us. For the record, I emailed them before posting here. I tried to let them know about this experience privately, but they ignored me. I had the single-worst dining experience I've had in years at the Black Bear Diner in Turlock on 11/26/21 between 8:30 a.m. and 10:15 a.m. Our waiter took our drink order right away, but it took somewhere between 35-45 minutes for our waiter to take our meal order. There was a couple that was seated immediately before us who got their food and left before we even placed our order. We finally placed our order, and someone else was seated in that booth and still got their food before us. Half of our order showed up about 25-30 minutes after ordering it, but the other half of our order didn't arrive for another 15 minutes. When our waiter finally delivered the rest of our order he said, "Here's some extra toast just in case." No apology, just toast like that was going to fix everything. To top it off, the food was mediocre at best. None of it was great. It was edible, but not worth what we paid by a long shot. It's unlikely myself or my family will ever go to any Black Bear Diner again. We've never had problems before, but this was a truly horrible experience. read more
