Our experience at this delightful restaurant was excellent. Allison seated us and was friendly and accommodating. Shawna then greeted us and gave us plenty of time to decide what we wanted. When we asked for her suggestions, she had gave us a good review of the menu choices and told us what people liked most. (This was very helpful as it was our first time here.) We ordered Meatloaf, a Hamburger and Chicken Fried Steak. We all liked our choices! (We also liked that you could order a small plate if you had less of an appetite.) Black Bear Diner mixes classic small-town diner food with a chain restaurant feel. It's like walking into a cabin, which is kind of fun. Another fun thing is they've got some merchandise at the front - I even saw bear shaped ugg boots for kids, lol! Staff were masked and people were relatively spaced out. Certain tables were marked as not being used. The menus were on paper, kind of like on a newspaper. I'm not sure if this was because of covid or if the menus are always like that... but it kind of added to the whole feel of the place. There were also QR codes (I assume leading to the menu) on the tables, though this wasn't advertised to us. Our waitress was really nice. I was having some trouble ordering, and she helped me get it all settled. I ended up with the chicken fried steak. it came with a roll, green beans and mashed potatoes, plus a salad that came out within minutes of ordering. I'm a huge fan of mashed potatoes, and these were good, though seemed a little sweet for my taste. Maybe because they were red potatoes? The green beans do have bacon in them, which isn't my favorite, but if you like that then I guess they were good. The salad was your basic starter salad, and I thought there was a good amount of it. I got mine with ranch, which was a thick kind that I thought tasted nice. The rolls were a hit. They're hearty but with a little sweetness too, and also a good density. Now, I'll admit I don't consider myself a CFS connoisseur (I know some people out there who probably are!) but for me, it was the best part. I liked both the breading and the meat itself. I thought it had good flavor and I actually liked how it wasn't too juicy. The breading was flakey but still substantial. I also thought the gravy was tasty, and definitely added to the overall flavor. Not the best I've ever had, but not bad either. The food was delicious! Service was very polite and good! My steak was cooked to perfection with amazing flavor! My husband's salmon was good, and my daughter loved her cub meal! For the first time, my daughter struggled with deciding what to eat but has a plan to try the other choices in a particular order. Our server was amazing and service was quick! We were there at 6:30 and the restaurant didn't have a lot of people at that time. I ordered the baked potato soup. It was bland and tasted like watered down whit gravy with a couple of carrots and potato chunks. This was second time my family and I had a terrible experience here. After first time we decided to give them benefit of doubt but not after today. What should have been enjoyable time spent with family on Sunday morning turned in frustration and empty stomach. If they are at a half of their capacity, they start running like a chickens with their head cut off. Once again, we had to wait for our food over 40minutes. When it finally arrived, potatoes were raw, 3 of the plates did not come correctly and sides were ordered never arrived. At that point I returned plate that had raw potatoes and sat there in disbelief. You would think manager or someone would try to apologize for lack of service and terrible experience, but no, not here, they probably don't care about customer satisfaction. Previous time I asked for something to be taken out due to allergy, sure enough they did not care enough to make order as requested. I am not normally one to complain, but I visited today and had a terrible experience. For starters, the server Kynda, was very blunt. I understand maybe having a bad day, but when I added something to my order she just stared at me....no words. Then, she gave me the wrong drink. THEN, my french toast was raw, so I told her and she said "it's just soft". (It was in fact raw.) Then, when we were done eating my sister and I sat there for about 10 minutes before finally getting a bill. It was also dead silent in there and felt super awkward. I was excited to try this place for the first time. When I walked in the restaurant is really neat, it looks like a real lodge! Then I was super excited they offered chicken sausage. came here today for the first time and was super excited , ive seen great stuff about it online and thought it was super cute . but i have to say , i used to work at a waffle house and have way higher dining expectations than this . that's gotta be saying something . we were super dissapointed when my omelette came out with mold on the toast . the manager ( ? ) came out and explained that they get fresh bread , so sometimes it molds ? im not sure what she was on about , as i make and buy plenty of fresh bread and never have a molding issue . it shouldve never made it to my plate . i didnt get any sort of comp or anything for the literal mold on my plate and im pretty sure they just put new toast on the same plate . it also took about 10 minutes for them *just to replace toast* . my server looked to have 2 other tables , one being fairly large but they all had their food. i also had ordered blueberry pancakes , and i believe my server didnt hear me . but when our food was out and they said, " anything else ? Maegan was our server. We waited almost 20 minutes for her to take our order. The pancakes had powdered sugar on them and regular syrup. I specifically asked for NO sugar. Got the pancakes replaced, no problem. When we went to pay, Maegan had added "Italian Sausage" to our order. We did not order it and did not receive it. Sierra went and asked Maegan and Maegan said we DID order it and ate it! I had to pay for sausage I didn't get. Really burned me on Black Bear Diner. Plus I had to ask Maegan to refill my coffee 3 times (and they were not that busy at all) I normally tip the same amount as my order, I did not leave a tip at all. stood for about 10 mins waiting to be seated in a half empty restaurant..mildly annoying. but forgivable. No issues ordering, then the food... Chicken fried steak was ok...portion was small for what they charge. biscuit was ok as well..had better and had worse. the biggest and worst thing were the home fries... you should really do a quality audit on your cooks.. the home fries were so under cooked. they were hard and the couple I did eat were raw. how bad of a cook do you have to be to screw up home fries? made me start to wonder if the potatoes were even washed because they sure as hell were not cooked, browning raw potatoes is not cooking them. I've eaten at the Owasso location with no issues, this location needs some supervision at the least..maybe some retraining for your cooks..and I did tell my server and nothing was done. We were seated at a table that hadn't been cleaned big blobs of food on the menu and the floor was disgusting, covered in a LOT of trash & food. Very slow service, 2 of 3 meal orders were incorrect. The third order, the cheesecake was partially frozen. The restroom was clean but no TP. Staff were friendly but need some training and the manager needs to work on cleaning. Such good breakfasts but will not visit again for dinner. The staff is very nice and friendly service but the prime rib was thin and over done. Asked for horseradish and corn bread and received neither. Two fish pieces were not cooked thru. The salad was very good . This is my first experience at this restaurant and it was wonderful! The waitress was super friendly very helpful from the moment I got there I was comfortable and it was clean. The food was fresh and tasty. Everything about it was perfect, at first it seemed expensive but with the portion sizes it was well worth it. The desserts are something else I got a cobbler and it was so large I shared it with a friend and the two of us still could not finish it. Also the salad dressing was made from scratch and was great thousand Island. Too often the potatoes are instant and the gravy tasteless. These potatoes were fresh mashed red potatoes and the gravy reminded me of what my mother used to make. That's hard to find now. Our server wasn't that great and the food took forever to come, my husband's prime rib was more medium than medium rare even the second time around. Very solid breakfast. The chorizo breakfast burrito was well done and stuffed with everything! I would say great breakfast burrito with some really nice flavors, including their in house salsa, but nothing too memorable to stand this place apart. Their hash-browns were nice and thick, and unique on their own. Slightly overpriced I would say is their orange juice. Although, tasted incredible because it was freshly squeezed as advertised, the cup was just super tiny for the price tag. Overall not many complaints, but not many high praises. Man o man you gotta check this place out. If you like comfort food, this is the go to joint. Don't be scared by all of the seniors eating there. They know what's good and they will be there; at least for the early bird special. We went around 5:00pm on a Friday; which is early but we didn't want to wait for hours for a good meal.
