A cool October morning and a visit to Port City Diner, a small almost cramped dining room with a tall counter and some good food. A short distance off the highway this personifies the spirit and food of a classic truck stop diner. I ordered the Chicken Fried Steak with biscuit and gravy with hash browns. The CFS was well done with crispy but thick breading and tenderized beef. It was tasty and satisfying. The biscuit was fluffy and tender and the gravy thick and creamy with minimal pepper, just right in my opinion. The hash browns were fine. Not over or undercooked just good standard hash browns. Don't expect quirky takes on classic recipes just properly done diner food with friendly service in a no nonsense atmosphere. read more

Don't pass up the fresh, diner made onion rings. Oh! Wow! For me a filling meat loaded club sandwich with those rings on the side. The club sandwich was outstanding. Meaty layers between buttered toast, lettuce and tomatoes. Mayo on the side. It wasn't needed. My wife had the big thick burger with crinkle cut fries. The pictures talk. Look at them. It is a small clean restaurant. Old time counter service and booths. Friendly attentive staff. The waitresses seemed to know everyone. I used to come here all the time. I'm face, I've probably been coming here for over 20 years. They've painted the walls and made it look much more at home. Although I still love the food but there's a few reasons why I went from a 5 to a 1. First the waitresses are attractive, but there's a lot of drama between them. There didn't used to be. I guess anyone can be hired as a waitress or waiter these days. And next, the prices keep rising. $4 for toast with fake butter, is way too much. I remember when a great breakfast from here only costed $6. If I were you, I'd go to Lilly's, Route 66 diner in the Hard Rock, Eggellent diner on R66 or even Brookside By Day on Peoria, before coming here.... read more

We luckily found two seats at the counter, and this was at 11:30 am on a Sunday! I had the huge and loaded Max Omelette with coleslaw as my side. So yummy and filling. The servers were fun and attentive. The shower curtain partitions were comical for covid obviously. As we are all trying to get back to a sense of normalcy, this was a welcomed treat. I was completely caught off guard with how great is was made with all the fresh onions, peppers, mushrooms, and a trifecta of delicious meats and hash brown in the skillet with 2 perfectly cooked over-medium eggs right over the top! My husband and I have lived near this area for 3 years and today we tried Port City Diner for the first time. Let me tell you, we were 3 years too late trying this place. If we knew how tasty and delicious this place was, we'd have been eating here much sooner. The value is off the chain, the ham steak is nice and thick, and I feel like we really got our money's worth. The coffee was very nice, not burnt or foul in any way like some other diners can be. The waitstaff was attentive and kind, they took great care of us. They even offered to give me some extra sugar free syrup in my to-go box since I didn't finish my waffle and took it to go. I also appreciated that they had sugar free syrup and zero sugar sweeteners for the coffee. The bacon and sausage are to die for, and the hash browns are some of the best in the business (nicely browned and crisp and not gummy or wet), and the scrambled eggs have good flavor unlike the bland tasting stuff you get from bigger breakfast chains. I can't say enough nice things about this spot. We will absolutely be returning. Ambience is your typical diner, cozy and small with few frills but for the value and quality of food I have no complaints. read more

A real live 'divey' diner just off of Route 66. Good food, just a few seats and a counter, and waitresses that call you 'hon' and 'sugar' even though you've never met them. Highly recommended if you like your traditional American diner that's not trying to be anything else. read more

1st time going here. Work a few blocks away & drive by M-F. Tired of Subway, Mazzios & all the other chains around I asked coworkers & they said it was good. When I walked in all the booths were pretty much taken but the bar/counter had seats so I sat there. Ordered a Triple Deluxe Club w/fries (no tomatoes) to go. After I ordered & looked at other peoples plates I realized I had ordered too soon. Saw a hamburger steak meal & chicken fried steak meal, both looked DELICIOUS. As I type this I'm eating the Triple Deluxe, Its awesome. Fries are bomb so next time I'll try onion rings ;) All in all, if you're in the area definitely stop in.
