We hadn't been since COVID. And I've never left a bad review but really feel the need to let others know. The waitress was super nice. However the diner has really gone downhill. The soup was nauseating. The silverware was crusted with food. Most of the food seemed to just be warmed in the microwave. There was litter throughout the diner and the tables and the shields between the tables had food and fingerprints all on them. Also the mens Bathroom was filthy (says hubs). We went for lunch and it was a mediocre experience! Overall I don't think I'll come back for a lunch service. Service: We were immediately seated so that was nice. To check out, we waited at the front register for hot minute in a short line before someone noticed us all up front. Food: the food was ok, I got the California burger and my only complaints would be it was salter than it should have been and there was a lot of chopped onions for a small/regular sized patty. Atmosphere: I really liked the atmosphere! There was more natural light then most places and it was very rustic with pretty scenic stained glass dividing the booths. Waiter/waitress: she was nice and patient with us since it was our first experience there, but she was very dreary and had a scowl on her face the whole time like she hated to be there. This is my second time here the first time I was disappoint the food was mediocre the service was horrible OK so maybe they're having a bad a year later I gave them another shot . This time was just as bad I think that they hire their wait staff right out of rehab they're inarticulate and mumble you can't understand what they're saying . I ordered four eggs scrambled hash Browns and bacon and no toast the waitress kept asking what kind of bread I wanted and I had to repeatedly tell her I did not want any bread pancakes or any kind of carbohydrates other than the hash Browns . When the food arrived there were only two eggs of the four that I ordered the hash Browns were very undercooked and raw in places I asked that it be remade and when it came back nothing had changed ash brown still undercooked still only two eggs didn't try the bacon as it looked undercooked as well. I asked for the manager she came over I explained everything to her pointed out that the hash Browns were created too coarsely to be properly cooked she told me there was nothing they could do about it they came frozen in bags which means that they're just ultra processed frozen food loaded with preservatives and additives an unhealthy seed oils . After telling them that there was nothing they could do to bounce back from this they were kind of not to charge me I got up walked out and will never return nor will I recommend this to anyone read more

Not sure what has happened to this restaurant. We have ate here for years and the past three times it had been filthy and the food is just not what it use to be. There were handprints and crayon marks all over all of the glass partitions, floor was dirty and the wood beside the booth was covered in dust. NuCame in around 9:15pm on 5-12-19. Mothers day. Looks like the crowd had finally subsided when we came in. Sadly. Looks like some of the employees went into hibernation mode and failed to provide a great eating experience. The food arrived hot and fresh. But only one was ready to eat. The turkey pesto was fine. But my bacon chedder did not arrive properly done. How hard is it to mess up a well done burger in an practically empty restaurant? I had to physically get up and go to the counter when no one responded to our hails and hand up. Staff was in cleaning mode and we appeared abandoned. I showed the burger lacking the bacon and a medium rare burger. They offered to redo the burger but asked if i wanted new fries? Huh. Of course. Wouldnt the fries be cold by the time a well done burger was done? I joked it was probably someone elses order and not mine. I sat down and after a minute went back and told them to cancel the order. I ended up eatting my wifes half of her sandwich. Even after putting it on a napkin to eat they apologized and offered desert. But no plate for at least for me to eat a sandwich? Must of been a busy day and i got them not at there best. This is not my first black bear diner to eat at. Btw we made a minor detour to eat here over other area restaurants off the 5 freeway. On July 4th I visited this diner in Tulsa with a friend; ordered the Blackened Salmon with seasoned potatoes & green beans as sides,,, it was absolutely Phenomenally DELICIOUS!!! The salmon was grilled to perfection & the seasonings & flavors of all the foods was the best!! Is bigger better? Absolutely, however, when the portion size is big but the flavor is not, this is a letdown. This is how I felt last evening after dining at this establishment. I had high hopes for this place, especially after reading the reviews. We arrived around 6 PM and were promptly seated, right next to the restrooms there was no smell, but it just didn't help the atmosphere at all. Speaking of atmosphere, the restaurant was clean and they tried to pull off a rustic motif. There were several pictures of black and grizzly bears on the wall as well. The menu was MASSIVE and allows you to order breakfast lunch and dinner. This was a plus as diners usually allow for this and it was nice to see that they did as well. My wife ordered the half fried chicken with Mac N cheese fries and a side salad. I wanted to order the chicken fried steak until the waitress WARNED me not to eat it as I would not like it since it came prebreaded and frozen. I appreciated her input and decided on the 10oz NY Strip, med-rare, with 2 eggs over easy and hash browns. When my wife's salad came out the lettuce was brown...iceburg with lots of white stem in it. My wife ate a few bites and was done. This also came with a cornbread muffin that was one of the best things about the meal. When our meals came out, they looked amazing! They have a credo that says "if you don't say WOW when your food arrives you must have ordered toast" we both said WOW as the portions were of great size. This however was the LAST WOW out of our mouths. The steak, while cooked correctly, had no flavor, no seasoning, just of meat. The hashbrowns, even though there were plenty and they looked neat, had NO flavor whatsoever. They were dry and utterly tasteless. The eggs were cooked well and after some salt and pepper went well with the steak. The biscuit was massive and had a good flavor as well. My wife's fried chicken was beautiful yet also flavorless. The Mac and cheese was terrible and the french fries were delicious. It seems that this establishment caters to an elderly crowd since the food lacked even basic salt and pepper. So sad as we both had high hopes for this place. Were we full upon leaving this establishment? Yes, but full of mediocre flavorless food nonetheless. The best part of the meal were the baked goods. Today my husband and I went to the Bear restaurant on 71 st in Tulsa . It was 2:00 in the afternoon so business was slow. hostess took us to our seat and we sat and waited and waited for over 20 mins. No one so much as looked in our direction and we were sitting next to the kitchen. Not even served a glass of water so we got up and walked out. I know they have good food and I know most places are short handed , but they were not busy and someone could of at least acknowledged us. I don't know if that's because the economy is about to go into the toilet and businesses like these can rely on higher profits for breakfast items. The theme just doesn't seem to fit with the Tulsa area. The woodsy cabin decor just seems out of date. Food isn't that spetacular either. Large portions, but for the prices could get a better meal. The place also seemed over staffed. We went around 10am, there were maybe 5 other tables, but I think I counted like 25 servers. Some were just sitting around others were pretending to do busy work. If there's no traffic on 71st street and no waiting at the door there is no reason not to stop for an early day meal. **Dinner Review** - Cut to the chase: No truly sane person (or local Tulsan) should drive down 71st street for the experience of Black Bear Diner. In saying that I truly feel badly for the hardworking staff that are excited to receive a paycheck to pay their bills and support their families. It's honestly not their fault Black Bear Diner is in the middle of a traffic hell that is anchored on the West by a First Watch and on the east by IHOP and Jimmys Egg. I wasn't optimistic about BBD. But after getting through the front door and the anticipated Bear puns and bear decor, we were greeted and had a short wait. Waiting forces you to look out upon the dining room and it's hard not to see all the bears, cubs, otters, and pups. The wait was short and the eye candy was quickly forgotten. Ordering drinks was easy and I didn't have to debate the server for sweet or unsweet tea when i ordered iced tea. Truly refreshing The menu offers great, but unfulfilled, promise. We ordered a Bigfoot chicken fried steak and a New York strip. The salad dressing, we were told, was house made. And in fact it was. Unfortunately house made blue cheese without blue cheese crumbles is just cream. The salad was green, fresh, and well plated - a highlight even with the dressing misfire. Try the bacon ranch - its ranchy and bacon crumbled. It has flavor. And then mid salad.....they were out of the steak. So pot roast was the quickest alternative. Here's the food part. The chicken fried steak was not house breaded. A simple thing to do for the price, better CFS can be found at Brothers Houligans. The Tulsa World recently has an article about CFS in Tulsa -- all of which would beat BBD's version. We coulda had Swanson. The pot roast was okay. The seasonal vegetables were gray from being over cooked. As we slowly realized that we were overpaying for food that really should be of a higher quality (or at least created in house), the dining room again took our attention. Its a giant room, dispassionately open and radiantly bright, somewhere between a sad Alaskan hunting lodge and an upscale Golden Corral. All in all there are just so many other options that should stop you before your get to BBD. Outback is even next door if you get trapped on 71st Street on accident, are suprised by hunger, and don't want to eat the kids. The prices are similar. Decided tonight to give Black Bear Diner a try. I'll be honest if we didn't have such an amazing waitress I think we would have got up, new kitchen staff which I understand some people don't care. But it took almost 45 minutes to be served. The bacon cheddar burger was okay. The fries were soggy but again the waitress was so apologetic. Ashley B!! You are the best. Your sunshiney personality made the wait entertaining and fun. You have a wonderful smile and great sense of humor. We also got the catfish, Friday night special, not our thing. We had a wonderful experience at Black Bear. It was close to our hotel and we were very glad we made the choice to try their food. I had a veggie omelet - it was absolutely the best - with a pancake - delicious also. Hubble had waffle, ham and eggs and enjoyed - said h was delicious.
