My son made a appointment with Shaun for a re-twist 3 wks ago. He was told a price of 85.00. He got there ahead of time, he sat there for a hour only to learn Shaun was running late, this was after getting a text asking did he want to reschedule his appointment ..duh he was already there. Finally someone else washed his hair and he sat for another hour. Shaun arrived and started on her other client who was waiting and was getting twist. Finally someone else started on his re-twist finished and charged him 95.00. When I got home and saw his hair I don't know if it looked better before he came in or after. Your shop charged a high schooler 95.00 for a half done job after he waited longer than necessary. If anything the price should have been reduced for all of the above. Guess thats what happens when you want convenience close to home trying to avoid going on the other side of town. He wont be returning! read more

New to Houston from Ohio, was ready for an even bigger change so I decided on a hair cut. Black Butterfly is not far from me and my aunt had been here before so I was game. After Stacey confirmed that she would not have to straighten my natural curls in order to trim I made the appointment. I also sent her a few pictures of the style I was going for and she confirmed she could do it. I arrived at 10:20 Saturday morning, appointment was at 10:30. Got in the chair at 10:40, which is fine and pretty quick for a Saturday. She went right to work and I couldn't be more happier. I will be transitioning to a full fade at some point so this cut was the perfect start. I would definitely recommend Stacey. My aunt even came with me and got the same cut! I came here after the good reviews I read. My hair was mostly natural and transitioning. I've been getting keratin treatments and protective styles. I asked for a natural style and recieved something called a cold wave which according to Google is a perm. My natural hair is gone and I would have to cut it and start over. I feel violated and was still charged $130 for something I can't reverse. Will not be returning. read more

I HATE salons, beauty shops, barber shops etc.... Which is why it is imperative that I write a review about this place. Black Butterfly is simply Amazing! It has given me a new perspective on salons. I avoided, salons because every experience has been the same long waits, beauticians who stop working to talk, long processes and a variety of other personal issues that I've had over the years. Not this place. When I called Black Butterfly Renee answered with such a sweet and calm voice. I explained that I was natural looking to do a drastic cut with a taper. She confidently told me that she could do it and gave me a same day appointment. When I walked in it was clean, well-decorated and there were snacks neatly displayed for purchase. What I really liked were the nice wooden bar hight tables and stools in the middle where I could work on my laptop as I waited (which was not a long wait). Renee did not disappoint! Other reviews talk about how commutative the stylists are and this is so TRUE! She explained to me base cost and additional cost making sure I understood before she began. This was so comforting. I haven't walked away from a salon LOVING my hair in a long time, but I cant stop looking in the mirror. I will be going back to add some color next. read more

I (a Latina) had been going to Black Butterfly regularly for the past 2 years to get my hair trimmed. I never had a bad experience and I loved the way Shaun would cut my hair so much I told my sister she HAD to go there. Well unfortunately my sister (also Latina ) had an uncalled for racist experience with one of the girls that works there, I wish I knew her name. If you've been there before, you know the parking situation is very limited, so my sister circled around until she was able to park right in front of the salon. I was on the phone with her and heard the way that the girl disgustingly verbally attacked saying she could not park there asking her if she was here for the drivers ed business located on the other side. I understand that majorly of customers may be black but why would she just automatically assume she's not there for a haircut and be so rude about it. It was uncalled for. Once my sister explained she was there for a haircut with Shaun the girl switched up right away talking about "oh okay I was saving this parking spot for you." Lady, no you were not. And if you were you were expecting her to look different. Needless to say my sister left and I no longer support a business that discriminates. read more

This is such a great studio! I started coming here after a poor experience with a previous studio, and my faith has been restored. Black Butterfly pays attention to detail, and it truly makes all the difference. First, everyone who works there is so kind and communicative. We spend so much time chatting, and I can tell they actually care about their clients as more than just a head of hair. I've had a wash, trim, and styling by Bridget, and I loved it. Best of all, they're great with treating all hair types. I'm currently transitioning to natural hair and even it its fragile state, my hair is healthy and looked fabulous when she did it. My mom has had her hair relaxed and styled at Black Butterfly several times, and she always looks fantastic as well. I've had my hair braided by Sharee several times, and all of my visits have been absolutely superb. My favorite aspect is that she knows how to make the braids tight (but not uncomfortably tight) and neat without destroying your edges. Each time I've taken out my braids, my hair is longer, stronger, and unscathed by the braids. Yay for successful protective styling. Studio is clean and spacious, prices are reasonable, and the quality is the best I've seen in the area. Sistahs and sisters alike should check this place out! read more

I was going here to get a wash trim and silk press and call only to be told that Bridgette was not there for an emergency which seems to happen often with this salon based off of other reviews I have read. I was told that Ashley could do it instead and when I call back to decline because again didn't read the best reviews and don't just trust anyone random person with my hair to be met with an attitude because I am a little upset. Ashley is the one that answered and was extremely rude and very combative when I told her I hadn't read great reviews and wants to cancel and go somewhere else. I was told good luck finding somewhere else at 5:30 on a Friday even though I shouldn't have to in the first place. I understand emergencies happen but it's not hard to pick up the phone and call and to say you called but we have NO MISSED CALLS is UNPROFESSIONAL. Please make yourself a favor: Do not book any appointment with Black Butterfly website. It is a scam. They will withdraw your money from your account, and tell you that the person you booked with is no longer with them. When i told Bridgett, the owner of the salon that i would report the fraud, she told me that I should report a meltdown to a psychiatrist since I have anxiety issues. She recognizes that HER website is not reliable, and herself does not recommend making appointments there - therefore, there is nothing she can do about it. That Ashley is already securing my account by billing me for an appointment that has not occurred. I can guess they are very poorly educated to have such level of ignorance as to diagnose a victim of a scam as having a meltdown . I feel embarrassed to have even contacted such dive! I had to close my account, spend hours on the phone just for booking a visit the Black Butterfly. I am surprised they know how to spell butterfly. I will not get the chance to meet such daring scam artists who diagnose their victim as having anxiety meltdown. The woman does not even understand that Black Butterfly is her business and she is responsible for the frauds that happen there. That is the level you're dealing with. Big no no along with flat irons This lady burns a piece of my hair out, admits it and then says sorry I can fix it by covering it up you have plenty of thick hair.. I was outdone! Never again then she puts this flaky ass edge control on my hair! Admits that's jacked up and she didn't do her best with flat ironing my hair. Too outdone by the customer service... pls don't let this lady do your hair she is one of the worse, money hungry still charges me $75 and says she normally would have charged $90 but since she burned my hair she call herself doing me a favor!! Bitch no you burned my hair out don't care if it's a little or a lot! Didn't want to make a scene in the shop so I paid her.. maybe some of the other ladies may do a better job but Stacey HELL NO! I was very happy with my two strand twist out for the most part. Unfortunately the product was a bit flaky in the front but you never know how a product will work on your hair until you've used it. In this case the product was Carol's Daughter. But the twists were very nice and I will definitely return. I'll likely bring product that I know works for my natural hair in the future. read more
