Seligman, Arizona --- The Route 66 "Black Car Bar" is as historical as the road that runs in front of it & a "Run-A-Way Bill" Favorite bar! The "Black Cat" saw Historical Route 66 come and then go & then saw the Route 66 re-birth (thanks to Seligman). Trivia: I learned today Route 66 was actually constructed for the 1928 Chicago World's Fair to get people to Chicago from the West coast ... interesting! The customers are full of positive energy in the "local's" hangout. day 326/bar 565 of "Run-A-Way Bill" "666 Bars of 2017" day 081 "DUSA 2017" (Discover USA) part 2 "Run-A-Way Bill" was here! #RunAwayBill #DUSA2017 #666BarsUSA #WorldsLongestBarCrawl #Route66RunAwayBill #HistoricRoute66 #Route66 11.23.17

Great place to stop for a drink. Bartender was friendly and gave us a good restaurant recommendation. Met some other weird travelers here.

There was a really nice young man who was helping out around the restaurant and gave us (we're older, seniors) a great feeling about the future of America. The young man was professional, friendly, engaging and I could tell helpful to the other employees. I have a feeling if we come back in 20 years he'll be running the place. :) We had the Dead Meat Treat, omelet, hashbrowns and 2 buttermilk pancakes. The food was delicious and we got some cool photos and, of course, our Passport stamp.

It definitely embraces the "roadkill" theme, with all of the decorations around the inside, as well as all of the fun names. The place has this "roadhouse" vibe. In addition to the restaurant, they also have a gift shop, of course, with all kinds of neat souvenirs, Route 66 and otherwise. I got my sister-in-law a "roadkill Café" shot glass, and I had to get a roadkill Café T-shirt for myself. We had the "one eyed dog got hit in the fog." very generous portions of rib sticking good food. We really enjoyed our breakfast. The price was reasonable. The employees were very friendly, and they came by regularly to check on us. Thanks for a fun and very good breakfast.

Children are allowed in this brewhouse, but I found it to not be the most exciting place to bring children. The bar had two arcade-like games (a shooting game and ski-ball). The shooting game was broken but charged us anyway (a manager had to refund us), and the ski-ball was entertaining, but with the amount of kids, and there only being one machine, it was a challenge. I wouldn't call this a sports bar either. There were some TVs but nothing big or to write home about. Come here for a chill time with adults to enjoy conversation and great beer. They have a fairly large merch section in the back, with tons of great shirts and items to take home.

The space still has that nice rustic charm with plenty of seating inside and outside on their nice patio. Ordering, however, has changed. Beers, cocktails, nonalcoholic beverages, cans to-go, and food is all ordered up at the bar. There was 1 lone employee working the bar; taking orders, pouring beers, mixing cocktails, and closing people out at the register. This was so incredibly inefficient, particularly on such a busy day. I stood in line 3 separate times (once to initially order two pints, a second time to order a flight of other beers we wanted to taste, and a final time to purchase two cans to-go and close out my tab); each time in line took between 15-25 minutes. The girl behind the bar was very friendly and she was working as quickly as possible while maintaining a relatively happy attitude, but boy did I feel bad for her. Management really messed this up; someone needed to step in and help. With such a big celebration in town that day, there needed to be a minimum of 3 employees manning the bar to take orders and get drinks. As for the beer itself, as usual it's just average. Great if you're looking for something cold to enjoy, but not memorable if you're a craft beer nerd. We went in knowing what the quality would be, but still wanted to try all the new beers since we hadn't been in a couple of years. We didn't eat while there, but in the past when we have, the food is good. The knock of two stars was simply for the horrible management of orders. I don't know when they decided to get rid of waiters and put all the pressure onto the bartender, but geez what an awful decision that was.

Everyone was so friendly, the regulars there drinking, the bartender/general managers, and other staff clearly have a lot of pride in the location, providing togetherness. I loved hearing the bartender tell others about that evening's music bingo- how it was created as something fun for the locals who they had always heard talking about or enjoying music, so they created a whole night for them- We also got the story of the randomness of the folded money in the wall stones- and what started as random became the community giving to charity through a fun bar secret means- Oh, and the wonderfulness of the team coming together to close down for a hard earned week of vacation- not just rotating schedules, but all relaxing together- the customer service, the management of it all, it really was a great model for micro craft brewery We had pints of Hop Deposits solid hops hazy hoppy Broken Pick pineapple juice flavor balanced Broadway -best golden I've had, perfect balance of roasty and of course Modern Miner- all untapped 5 stars; yup, we got the great beer we wanted- super sad we can't buy in MD- we'd have our fridge stocked regularly & music bingo would be our date night- cannot recommend enough- hubby even bought a hat to remember (though sadly TSA lost it moving our bags- and he says it's ok, but I know he's super bummed- that's the impact of happy times at this location)
