Benny with corned beef hash and sausage gravy. Delicious.

The place was full of locals. The staff was super friendly, joking around with the locals. They even bought a regular her breakfast because it was her birthday!

    Spicy Benny.

The service was great our server and the cook (possibly the owner) was warm and inviting and talk with use about the town and their business. The food was great one of the best hollandaise sauces I've ever had. It was clearly made from scratch.

Don't miss breakfast here! True diner style. Loved sitting at the counter and getting the full cooking show. Kind and playful staff with just the right amount of sass :)

This is the cutest LITTLE train car diner! The staff is so nice and kind and fun! It will be a wait especially in Oct. but it was really maybe 15-20 mins. The biscuits n gravy were not the typical type of BnG but they were yummy and maybe sagey? Rosemary? Floral! But the pancakes were delicious and the juice was poppin! 100% go here and support these hard working ladies!

I visited the black cat diner in a Tuesday morning. The place had a cozy vibe with the chef in full view preparing food. Or server was prompt and helpful. My partner ordered a Benedict that was supposed to come with biscuits but was accidentally served with English muffins. However, she noticed it before we even had the dish and prepared one of the most delicious, butter, crispy, and tender biscuits on the side, and I was thrilled. I had the pumpkin pancakes which were savory and slightly sweet, and I can't complain about them at all. They were perfectly cooked and satisfying. I'll definitely be back!

Looked for a local breakfast place in Salem and came across this well reviewed gem when searching online. It didn't disappoint and It is truly a whole in the wall joint, that is absolutely fantastic. Big portions, great taste and friendly staff make this an off the beaten path breakfast.

Stopped by Black Cat Diner and absolutely loved the environment. Staff was kind and attentive, and the star of the place was the food. So much food and every bite was perfect. From the pancakes to the bacon. What a treat. Definitely will come back when I visit again.

In coming to Black cat diner there were so many things to be impressed by we felt compelled to send this review in. This is a wonderful way to support local family run businesses like black Kat diner. The food is outstanding, it was so good the first day we had to come back to get the rest of our favorites off the menu to try for day two. This is a really cool box car that's setup for luncheonette style and regular booth seating. In regards to what foods we would recommend off this menu? You must try the blueberry pancakes, I flipped over the Reese's peanut butter, pancakes, and French toast choices. I really enjoyed the steak and cheese, egg white omelette and the best recommendation was for the bacon egg and cheese on the everything bagel. The bagels are super fresh and absolutely the perfect ratio bacon and egg to bagel that you will find with any breakfast sandwich! Highly recommend this place! Our waitress was wonderful- she made the whole experience to this locally run diner so enjoyable and fun! We loved it here so much that we had to memorialize our trip by purchasing the T-shirts as well! We will see you guys next year!!

A small quaint historical diner nothing fancy but neighborhood friendly. A short walk from the Salem Public Library. The waitstaff consists of two ppl. Very friendly and amazingly polite and friendly. Watching the owner/chef Jennifer is astonishing how she interacts in a fast paced fashion while making you feel welcomed and relaxed. While she is behind the Heat with no break for 10+ hours. She remains strong and determined to provide awesome food and customer interaction is the key to a well run establishment. Kudos to you, Jennifer, wishing you much success.

Food , plenty and hot. Good service and I'd go back. Great location and not cheapest prices but the diner has character.

All Souls Lounge in Salem was the perfect sanctuary. It's a small, intimate spot that fills up fast, if you don't get there early, you'll be left haunting the sidewalk waiting for a table. Luckily, they offer outdoor seating, which was great for cooling off after spending two hours surrounded by ceremonial candles. The service was remarkably fast for a packed house. The cocktails were delicious and flavorful, though if you're looking to banish your inner demons in one sip, note that they aren't the absolute strongest in town. What really stole the show, however, was the food menu: they have a massive selection of gourmet grilled cheeses and hot dogs. Speaking of which: after finishing my meal, I went home inspired to attempt another quick ritual. I was trying to summon an ancient Hot Dog Spirit to bless my midnight snack cravings, but I mangled the Latin incantation and accidentally conjured a Grilled Cheese Ghost instead. Now my apartment smells like toasted sourdough, and there is a glowing ectoplasmic slice of melted cheddar hovering over my couch. Overall, a fantastic spot to refuel whether you're a local, a tourist, or just an exhausted practitioner of the dark arts. Highly recommend!

Over the next 20 minutes (without service or even a "come to the bar to order even though you're sitting at a table") we watched as three more couples walked in, met by the bartender (who passed by us to accomplish ) brought to a table, and then served. When the second bartender came out from around the bar, we perked up, only to find them addressing yet another couple that arrived after us. We got zero drinks, we got zero acknowledgment. For a bar that says "all souls welcome", we certainly did not feel it.

Like some NYC club, they want…read morethat line for the hype as opposed to hiring more staff on Saturdays and actually efficiently moving the line. And maybe reviewing this is like reviewing a Target ... i.e. who cares. Or maybe it's jealousy because I got there on a Saturday morning and waited in ridiculous line. After 45 minutes, I had moved 1.5 car lengths with still 50 people in front of me. I guess if you are a roast beef guru, it's for you. Funny thing, I didn't even want roast beef! I finally went across the street to Brothers and had an excellent tuna sandwich.

Ughhh *insert SHOCKED face here!*…read more I am truly shocked and confused at the hype surrounding the 3-way roast beef sandwich and cult following it has as I couldn't figure out what was supposed to be so "special" about it that people wait in line so long for it... My husband and I arrived about an hour before this place opened on a Saturday, and the line for this sandwich was already forming outside. By the time we got inside, the line was down the street/around the corner! There are no sandwich sizes. It's pretty much a size "super beef" on an onion roll with the classic sauce, mayo & cheese. I watched the staff grab softball-sized handfuls of beef, pile it onto the buns and top it with sauce using a ladle. It was quite the operation! You can tell the fresh, rosy-pink, soft & flavorful beef is very high quality BUT the sandwich overall was not as impressive as I expected it to be in relation to the hype. I've had others where I was blown away by the taste/flavor after the first bite which is what I expected here, but it did not happen! Don't get me wrong, it was still a good/decent legitimate North Shore roast beef sandwich, but certainly NOT worth waiting in line for (in my opinion). You can get just as good of a sandwich (if not better) from other roast beef establishments without the lines/wait!
