The Muffin Shop is located in the heart of old town Marblehead and popular. Don't be fooled by their name because muffins are just half of what they do. They offer a full scale menu of French toast, pancakes, omelets, bagels, croissants, etc. Sadly, they seem to sell out of muffins quickly but they slowly replenish their stock. There is no table service and you must wait on line to order from their menu which is on their wall. My wife and I visited on a busy Saturday morning at about 0915 hours and they were already out of muffins. Disappointed. I ordered the #5 which consisted of three slices of French toast, sausage and bacon, potatoes, and a coffee. My wife ordered the veggie omelet with sourdough toast, and coffee. It came with potatoes but she declined them. As a coffee snob, the coffee was ok. We were very satisfied with our breakfast. Everything was cooked fresh and served hot. The prices were more than reasonable considering what we pay here in NJ. The staff was friendly. I went back on Sunday morning at 0800 hours, and bought 6 muffins to go. My wife ate a apple cinnamon muffin on Monday morning and approved. Worth the visit if you are in town. read more

I always enjoy a trip to the muffin shop. Surprisingly I really like their lobster rolls- right in the middle of Marblehead on a brioche roll with a solid pickle and classic cape cod potato chips. This was a great place to grab a good breakfast- and the muffins/baked goods are very good too! A highlight- I shared my breakfast bacon with my wife and it broke and fell on the floor. Ordered a sizeable DoorDash order to our AirBNB after reading that it was a good local spot to try out for breakfast. After the food arrived we realized that we were missing the Iced Coffees we had ordered. I called Doordash and they were not of any help-- I called The Muffin Shop directly to inquire about the order and could not have been more pleasantly surprised by how kind and accommodating the owners were. She was so sweet and apologetic, and told me to come in and she would make it right. I made the short walk from our airbnb to the restaurant and was glad that I did-- not only were her and her husband super sweet and kind, I got to see first hand how many amazing treats they had on hand, and got some extra cookies for the kids. In a world where things move at a fast pace all the time, its really easy for things to be overlooked-- they could have easily just dismissed me when I called about the missing coffees (it was that busy that I wouldnt have blamed them). Instead they went out of there way to make sure we were taken care of and things were done right. Clearly these people are old school, have great values, and know what it takes to keep customers happy-- aside from putting out amazing food. This is a must stop in the area. Great variety of baked goods and breakfast items. Group of 4 walked in and got 2 pumpkins scones which were delicious (strong pumpkin taste), a breakfast sandwich on croissant, and omelet. All the food was out within 10 minutes of ordering. The breakfast is fine but not great. I got a grilled chicken sandwich that was over priced, lukewarm, the cheese wasn't melted, the chicken was in full breasts and very hard to eat. I give this place two stars only because we went there yesterday me and a friend of mine and we got two muffins she got a medium iced coffee I got a soda and it came to $16 and something was not adding up right I talked with one of the workers and they said oh it came to $15 no I looked at the menu that you guys have and there was no way that came to $15 so something is wrong there because you should not have to pay like almost $16 for two muffins and medium coffee and a soda that is like highway robbery in my opinion. Stopped here for a late lunch and am so glad we did!! It is a cute quaint spot with a varied menu. We orders the lobster roll, blue berry muffin and the joe frogger cookie. All items were delicious and wish I had the forethought to take extras to go. The lobster roll was so delicious and probably one of the best we had while visiting. The bread was perfectly toasted and deliciously buttered. The crab was lightly tossed in a yummy sauce. Wish we would have each ordered our own as opposed to sharing! The muffin had great flavor and was moist with a nice crunchy top. Wish we had gotten there early enough in the day to order other flavors. Lastly, the cookie was so unsuspecting but so good. I order grub-hub muffin shop every so often for breakfast and it's always amazing. It's challenging to have a 10/10 omelette delivered so felt compelled to write this review. The omelets are high quality eggs, veggies and meats. They give you a hash brown and toast on the side (buttered for you)! It's the attention to detail for me. My husband and I moved here from Boston and get food delivered quite a bit and are often disappointed (with an exception of some consistent neighborhood gems). This place came highly recommended as a breakfast spot in Marblehead. My husband had an omelette, which he said was okay, but not everything we were led to believe. I had a muffin, which unfortunately was no better than I could make at home from a box mix. We were hoping the coffee would save this place, but it wasn't very good. Really a 3.5 star place, but I'll round up. It's a nice place. Pretty good food (the lobster roll is excellent; it's huge and the cheapest I've seen in the area). Coffee is OK, but could be better. That loses the place a star. The other 0.5 star loss is due to tiny bathrooms (the mens room is the size of a phone booth) and the use of disposable plates and flatware (I expect a bit nicer for the cost and the fact that this store is in Marblehead). read more

I've lived in town for a long time and finally decided to give this place a try. I went for a muffin. There was one left, not my flavor, but I took it. The top and sides were were hard and dry with very little to the middle. The older woman who works there was hot and bothered and cranky. I didn't feel the muffin was worth the cost. In terms of muffins...this place is tops (get it?? muffin tops! ok fine...maybe only I found that funny). I can't say I eat muffins very often, but what I do know is that there is a reason that they sell out quickly and it isn't because they're pretty to look at! The large coffee and the muffin came to just over $5.00 - same I would've spent at Dunkin Donuts and far yummier. One of my favorite muffin places. Ever. However, it's very difficult to get a muffin unless you go very early in the morning (they open at 6 am and often sell out before 9 am). I am a big chocolate person but my favorite there is their blueberry muffin. Their pumpkin muffin is also delicious when they offer. And chocolate chip muffin is also a must. I don't know about the muffins.. I've only been for lunch, and there are no muffins left at that time. So, I have to assume, the muffins are damn good to sell out entirely by lunch time. Good for the Muffin Shop. Lets talk about lunch. How about, one of the better turkey clubs EVER. Real roasted turkey, super crispy bacon, and just enough mayo/lettuce. Oh, and its gigantic. Two people could probably split it. Only thing it needs is slightly better bread. The chicken salad is very good, however a tad too heavy on the mayo. I won't complain there because seriously, I love any excuse to eat extra mayo.. especially when its not by my own doing. Again, the only real downfall was the bread, soft wheat. But hey, its kind of my fault here because chix salad belongs on a hard roll. Oh and the mustard - they need good deli mustard.. but what can ya do. Its a pretty large place, with a mildly unclear ordering process, though service is friendly. I'll be back when I am looking for a quick bite in Marblehead. Its not hard to find, but it is hard to think "I can get a fresh roasted turkey club here" when you walk by. Its a bit deceiving, considering the name, after all. Terrific family owned and operated business who cares about what they serve! You can tell the delicious muffins are fresh baked at the crack of dawn each morning! I was lucky enough to have the muffins brought to me, beautifully packed in boxes. Each looked liked little jewels of delicious flavor! Everyone went crazy over them in my office! I was a little slow and only got to taste the blueberry but it was amazing!
