Tried my old favorite coffee house, the former CafeDelMundo - now the black cup. Not the same. Where CafeDelMundo had a warm & friendly ambiance, Black Cup is cold and the service is horrible. Tried it about a year ago. I was one of the few in the cafe. Service staff was so busy texting and chatting among themselves, it was well over 45 minutes to receive my cup of hot water for tea. This was after several requests. I called the Kaladi Brothers Office to advise of the poor service. Maybe the staff was not trained properly, bad day, whatever. As a business owner, I would want to know if my staff performed poorly. Met a friend st the cafe today. It was moderately busy fir mid afternoon. Again, rude staff. No napkins. After three requests, they finally put the napkins out in the service table. Rude service. Too expensive and sub par product. Sorry - will not be back again. Great coffee and cool atmosphere but the service is sooooooo very slow. The place wasn't even busy and I had to wait 15 minutes and inquire twice about a cup of tea I ordered. The staff are apathetic and aloof. I wish I hadn't left that $2 tip. Lesson learned. read more

I like this location and try to come here for coffee with the pop. It has reinvented itself, but still serves the same great coffee with the same great service. It is decidedly a study hall/wannabe blogger hangout and seating is limited for people who want to chat over a hot cup of brew. It's fine, but I tend to get here earlier if I can. What this place should do is have a bar type area with power so that the oners can surf the net to their hearts desire and leave table tops for multiples of one. I wish I could give ZERO stars! Came here excited to try a new coffee place! It's a nice coffee shop but had the WORST coffee EVER!!! Ordered 2 coconut milk lattes and they were ice cold , tasted old.... when I go tell the barista my coffee is cold he asked me if I wanted my coffee back in the MICROWAVE ?? Wow ... so that's what I had in the first place ! Microwaved coffee... DISGUSTING ! didn't even ask if I wanted a fresh coffee .... telling me he can't steam coconut milk .... whatever ... horrible customer service ... terrible coffee.....NEVER GOING BACK! read more

My husband is freakishly high maintenance when it comes to coffee. I'm talking, he hand grinds his single origin, direct-trade coffee before making his own pour over every friggin morning. He even worries about the temperature of the water. While I'm tempted to roll my eyes at the amount of care he puts into every cup, I understand that it truly makes for a better coffee beverage. It's nice to know there's a local coffee joint that puts as much attention into their drink creations. He's gotten several pour-overs from Black Cup and left ecstatic. And they've made me the best skim mocha I've had since moving to Alaska. Will definitely come again! :) read more

5 Stars for the Friendly Staff, decor and the ambience of this place. 3 for the cappuccino itself. I can't say it was bad ( Since I am not a coffee drinker) and I can't say it was delicious either. It tasted a little thinner than the cappuccinos I have had. Pricing is good, definitely worth a try. read more

I'm knocking them down a star. Holy Shenanigans....$4.35 for a 12 ounce latte?? To put things in perspective, my normal coffee hut charges $3.75 for a 20 OUNCE latte & they use Kaladi as well. I guess someone needs to pay for their remodel. ;( read more

If it ain't broke, don't fix it! Come enjoy a nice cup of coffee accompanied by a scratching blaring record player on the fritz and the employees friends. This place was slammed before the remodel. I came for a second visit and tried some pour over...black. It was much better tasting than the latte I'd had on a previous visit. There were three choices, all of which were promising but the Colombian option had some more balanced promises. It was definitely good enough to drink black, which is not something I find often. Just ok. Ordered a cold brew at 8 a.m. and they weren't sure if they had any so my crew held up the line while they checked... downstairs?? I requested a "pump" of caramel and it was wayyyy to sweet. I think the cold brew would have been good if I could taste it through the cloying sweet syrup they use. I guess I will own that I asked for it. A really great coffee shop in a state where coffee is generally above par. Close to the airport, easily accessible, this puts the "specialty" in specialty coffee. The drinks are superbly prepared and their espresso blend is great - nice and strong but not bitter or too strong. Their muffins are moist and delicious and the atmosphere quite relaxed. It is a favourite place for people to set down for a while drink and get some work or study done. Top notch. read more

What a great coffee shop. The service was excellent and they served up a phenomenal cup of artisan coffee. I'll definitely be returning to this location for coffee when I'm in town. I don't drink coffee at all in fact, but I do enjoy a good cup of tea and a nice atmosphere, and Black Cup has provided both of those. This is a spot that my wife and I have found ourselves at a few times when waiting for the kids' various practices to end or parties at a nearby rodent themed arcade to finish. Tried this coffee shop out for the first time and it will be my last. The guy taking my order was not unfriendly but I wouldn't call him friendly either, just there doing his job. There was such a crowd around the front counter that I couldn't get to the other end without squeezing through. And the crowd didn't appear to be waiting on any order, they were just socializing. The barista was more interested in visiting then delivering my order. I finally excused my way to the other end of the counter to find a cup of coffee sitting there. I asked if it was my 16 oz mocha and the barista replied, "it's A 16oz mocha". After putting my own lid on the cup (I had asked for it to go), I took the coffee and left. It was luke warm at best. They get one star because it was a 16oz mocha and as taste goes, not that bad. read more

I do not give out one-star reviews on yelp however I feel that this is something that needs to be addressed. The hygiene is one star quality ONLY towards the main lobby and bathrooms. This does NOT reflect the coffee bar, quality of coffee, and friendly top notch baristas. This place is amazing for studying however my friend spilled a drink other day. We were trying to clean it up from the floor and immediately noticed that the floor is filthy. It looks like it haven't been mopped for days. I plan to visit again in weeks and hopefully will be able to update this review to 5 deserving stars. Your coffee and atmosphere is the best in town. read more

Need to revisit this one as I haven't reviewed since rebranding. At this point, I come here like everyday. Anchorage has so many coffee joints and surprisingly this is the only decent one. Very modern style coffee, i.e. not over roasted and shots pulled correctly (you'd be surprised how uncommon this is) coffee of the month always features really unique boutique producers and styles. Pastries on point and of course the baristas here are awesome. This should be the only place you go for coffee. read more
