Wow - this resort is gorgeous! I spent the weekend on property at the Greater Zion Cup PPA Tour pickleball tournament and also spent some time in the resort lobby + restaurants. Service was mostly attentive and we were pleased with the transportation situation / golf cart rides to and from the courts and the main area. We did not stay on property but will certainly consider doing so in the future. It sounds like they are in the process of expanding and adding even more amenities in the future. The staff was so attentive and courteous. From the moment I walked in, Rayder was so accommodating and pleasant. We had a wonderful conversation. Then, Sadie, the host at Latitude, made an effort to remember every guest's name. She was the highlight of our morning. Maxwell at Basalt was the most charming waiter who knew everything about the menu. He was so personable and topped off our night with recommendations and a touch of class. Don't get me started on the soft beds and pillows. AMAZING. They are so comfortable. I am mad I didn't take a peek at the manufacturer. Unforgettable. I loved the gym with a plethora of equipment offerings. It was a bit chilly the week we came, so we opted not to golf. We will be back. I highly recommend it here. So glad it's an option. read more

What a gorgeous property! It's been a long time since I've stayed at a "brand new" resort, this place wowed me (and I live in Vegas). Staff was welcoming and hospitable. Our room was spacious with the MOST comfy beds and pillows (and pillow options from Malouf - the best bedding!). Full kitchen had everything you could need for an extended stay. There's a fantastic pool with a giant, bubbling jacuzzi, open all night. Perfect for stargazing. We ate at Basalt restaurant onsite and it was incredible. The views here are stunning. I hate the owners for buying and destroying my favorite vacation spot - Red Mountain Resort. Instead of upgrading and beautifying my favorite funky resort, they bought the competition to shut it down. Sure, Black Desert is absolutely gorgeous and bedecked with all the fabulous and modern amenities you would expect. There are multiple restaurants to choose from on a huge property and prices are decent. I might have visited for a bite, but I don't want to stay at the place that ruined the place I loved. I liked the views best at Red Mountain. I have visited that spot many times over the past 27 years. I loved how it was walkable to the entrance of Snow Canyon and had unobstructed views of the red sand cliffs and a lava field with a trail. It was so peaceful sitting in my room with the door open, overlooking the lava field. Or lying in a hammock while watching the sunset colors on the red cliffs, or the moonrise, or a storm roll in. Losing my peaceful place to this overblown and overpriced perfection is not for me. So, ultimately, they lost a customer. read more

The good is, beautiful rooms beautiful property beautiful landscaping. The bad is they can't seem to carry out a task. Keep asking to lower the shades in the West facing rooms so that when you get there it's the room's not so hot. The air conditioning is adequate at best so if they don't set it down low enough for you and they keep the shades up it can't keep up with the heat. The restaurants are average at best, the alcohol rules in Utah are very tough but it's not black desert's fault. Just don't order a glass of wine cuz you're going to get about three and a half ounces for 20 plus dollars. read more

We've been fortunate to attend all four days of the PGA tour the last couple of years and absolutely recommend the VIP package. We decided to do an overnight staycation last night and with the exception of the 20th Hole restaurant (see review) everything was first class. Our room was beautiful, the view from our balcony was breathtaking and the staff (again with 20th Hole being the exception) were personable and fun. The food at Latitude was also terrific. I struck up a conversation with the evening valet while waiting for DoorDash and was impressed with his demeanor and professionalism. Black Desert Resort is a beautiful asset to our area and we will return. read more

We stayed at the resort for one night while attending a conference and had a chance to try the restaurant for breakfast. The food was beautifully presented and of very high quality--healthy and flavorful. While the service was a little slow, the staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful throughout our stay. Although we didn't get to use many of the amenities due to our short visit, the front desk team went out of their way to help us locate our room and the nearest parking spot, which was much appreciated. We also visited the on-site store and were impressed by the selection and stylish brands, particularly the golf apparel. Some areas of the resort are still under construction, so there was occasional noise from construction vehicles. That said, we were absolutely blown away by the design and quality of our suite--truly impressive and thoughtfully detailed. The highlight was the spectacular view of the red rocks, which made the stay even more memorable. read more

Truly beyond disappointing. While the rooms were very nice the food and restaurant options were terrible. To spend $400 a night and not have food service available at the pool and the only dinner option is a sports bar because the restaurant is closed during the week is not what I had planned on. At one point we pick up the courage to order chips and salsa but instead received something like a deep fried oil socked quesadilla and refried bean. When we complained were we're told this is just the way they serve it I tried raising the issue with a manger but was told there was none on duty. We wil be checking out first thigh tomorrow. P.S we got charged $8 for 2 cups of tap water for the kids read more

I rate it four stars because this is a great place to stay The only problem we ran into was the shampoo and conditioner in the showers aren't very nice after swimming in a lot of chlorine. I tried to take a shower, but the shampoo and conditioner didn't do anything for my hair. The conditioner was way too thin and runny so it wasn't thick enough and didn't make my hair smooth so it looked all knotty and ratty. Other than this, I really suggest this hotel. It's a really nice place to stay and has kid friendly things too like swimming areas and there's a hot tub for cold nights. We were here during the Pickleball tournament and it was really cool to see all the drones with lights making a light show in the sky. read more

Southern Utah's newest course easily ranks as the best in the state in my eyes after playing one round. The course is in incredible shape, set in a stunning backdrop against the red rock and lava fields, and offers a variety of lengths, shapes, and shot types for players. The course is challenging (some blind tee shots, tough greens--fast and firm, and lots of unplayable lies because of lava rock), but not so unbearable that you want to quit playing golf. On top of the golf itself, the experience is very country club-esque: food and beverage is included with your purchase of the round, so you can eat before you go out to play, get Gatorade/soda/snacks from the drink cart while on the front nine, grab tacos/drinks/Dole Whips at the halfway house on the back (twice), then grab a drink after the round. Each group is also assigned a forecaddie, who helps you know the best place to hit off the tee, watches the landing area for you on blind tee shots, and rakes sand traps. They only get paid $15/bag (for the four-five hour round), so make sure to tip them ($40-$50/bag is the standard). The only negative note is that the course doesn't have marshals and allows five-somes, so pace of play could be a real issue in the future when the popularity of the course picks up. Would definitely come back to play again! read more

Wow! I had no idea what to expect with this course. I was tagging along on what turned out to be a Guys Scouting trip for their annual golf extravaganza in October. Anyways... I did not expect to see a course that reminded me of Mauna Lani South and North Course but set in the desert with the beautiful red mountains as a backdrop. Bring extra balls... like more than you normally would. Even if you do find your ball or it got a lucky bounce from the lava rock... it will likely be chewed up. Listen to your caddy... they are there to help you. They are going to tell you to hit it where you think it's not a good place, but trust them... it is. The course likes to play visual mind games with you.... The forward tees (which I play)... make this course very approachable and fun for folks like me who are not big hitters. Now... you do need to be fairly accurate and have a good strategy in place. You can't just go whacking it all over the place. IMO... It's not a forgiving course. You hit OB... and you are not finding it. The rough is the lava rocks. What I really like... other than the picturesque setting and the caddies... is that the Greens are not surrounded by bunkers... I mean... there are bunkers. But they are not right in front of the green so I could do a bump and run or chip up to the green without a bunker getting in my head. I think I was only in 1 bunker all day and it was real sand... soft and fluffy... so that was nice. Not like other courses... where the "sand"... is really hard packed dirt or clay or gravel.... When we finished... check the cooler box on #18. There are refreshing, scented towels. It's a lovely touch that was much appreciated after a very hot round in June. The service is Fantastic! Everyone we encountered was very professional and 'on it'. It's not cheap... but they don't nickel and dime you. The food and non-alcoholic drinks are included in the price. The driving range was probably the nicest golf course driving range I've ever been to. It even had range data info for each mat. The resort itself is still being built out and we were told it would be done and ready by October 2024 for the PGA tournament. At this point, there are no amenities on the course. Only port o potties and coolers with waters. The cart attendant does their best to get to all the groups but they are busy. We happened to see them twice. So stock up on what you think you'll need/want when they swing by as it might be a while before they come around again. The pro shop was very nice and when I was leaving for the evening they remembered that I didn't get my personalized bag tag. I didn't even know that we'd get one. So, I was super surprised and pleased that they reminded me and made sure I got it before I left. Will I be back? I'd like to. I just don't know if I'll be able to afford it once the resort is fully open. Right now ... a 3pm tee time was $300 per person which is more than I normally spend (for me). I'm sure it will go up once they are fully open so I doubt I'll be back. But I can hope. read more

Better customer service!! We flew from California to golf here ... we have a 930 teetime we ask to get a re-play time. They say there is a 3:45 time we ask for it and pro shop attendant say you will be done earlier and I'll get you out. We go back to replay and they say there are no times and the 3:45 time was given to some employees. This does not happen a 3 star resort let alone a wanna be 5. We are in free rooms area for this disregard for the customer. Hotel has zero signage and not enough workers. This place has a lot to learn if they are going to survive. read more

Came for a couples golf weekend. Resort truly is still under development. Service is lacking. Rooms are not yet developed. Ours still had construction dust in the corners and items on the punch list. Golf was beautiful but greens not in great shape. I would give this another year or two to develop. Definitely not Anywhere close to 4 or 5 star service. Staff needs training. read more

Zachary went out of his way to educate us on the natural surroundings of the resort layout and pointed out the beauty we wouldn't have noticed had we've been on our own merit. An 18-hole golf course with a bonus 19th hole being constructed currently. Black Desert Resort is currently open for public play, but once it is completed, they will require you to be a resort guest in order to book a tee time. Reservations are booked far in advance! When you check-in, your carts will be loaded and followed by an escort to the driving and putting ranges to warm up. It is recommended to arrive 30 minutes early. The course conditions are immaculate with obstacles of sand dunes, water and black lava. When (and you will) lose your ball in the black lava, you won't dare retrieve it, consider it a gift to the resort / rattlesnakes. It is challenging but the views at each hole will either make up or be a bonus for your plays. Our caddie was extremely helpful, giving guidance at each hole, retrieving balls if retrievable and patient. The staff give nothing below 5-star service! read more

My review is based strictly on the room and customer service as we did not golf. We drove out from SoCal and decided to stay a night at the Black Desert Resort as it had just opened up and wanted to check it out as we have never been to Ivins/St George area. Our overall experience here was great all the way from valet, receptionists, bartender, and housekeeping. Everyone here was extremely welcoming and friendly so why the deduction of one star? When we got to the room, the overall aesthetics was modern and the bed was super comfy, however, it was very clear that whoever was contracted to build this place rushed through the process. Although this place had just opened to the public, our room had cracked flooring, paint smears, stains, chips, and pencil markings on the walls, and non-functional USB plugs. Although we knew in advance that construction was still heavily active here, there were no signs or lighting for the entrance to this resort. If you input the address in your GPS, it'll most likely take you to a fenced entranced at the roundabout which is not the entrance at the moment and will require you to drive down more and find the roadway into the resort. Regardless of what we experienced on this stay, we do plan on coming back when the place is completely done as they have tons of amenities and it's an extremely huge place. read more

Run very efficiently - they even have it prepared so you can stop at 11 and sit down for several minutes and eat some small bites and grab a drink before you tee off on the backside the only and it's minor complaint I would have is we did stop for breakfast at latitude? The hostess was a little bit odd the place was wide open, and there were only three tables seated at the time we were there and she said us right next to another table with a family of kids which is so strange with all the empty tables that we all had to sit next to each other and then when that table vacated, she brought in another large group and sat them there, plus our waitress was extremely slow and not really on top of our requests but other than that, we had a great fantastic time. I highly recommend one trip visit and I would say for a resort such as this resort pricing in the pro shop was very well in line and not crazy overboard they give you a great steal memento bag tag when you come and they even engrave it for free it was such a great touch and a great memory to have our forecaddy Kayden was amazing !!! read more

I was really disappointed about my favorite sever JOY who was no longer there anymore! She was always new my drinks, food for my whole family! Very attentive to every single detail, including to split our kids's food and made sure they were all taken care of, and heard and listen to . She was such a joy to have her as a server and we always came back because she was there and now that she's not I'm never coming back again! because it won't be the same without her there her experience that we had she made us feel like Home in as if we were own house and so friendly and outgoing and kind and just made us feel like we are the only table she ever had! Even when she was busy with other tables. Very attentive to detail I never had to ask her what I needed. She already knew without asking my whole family came we celebrated graduation and our anniversary lunch and breakfast there she was the best server.!! Black Desert will be not the same without her there! And I will not be returning anymore because without her, it's not the same to come anymore she was the highlight and the gift with her working there! Now that she is not I won't return! I am local and i was very saddened that she gone. I walked out after I found out she was not there no longer. She was our number one best server! Golf course condition, caddy experience and views - A+ Experience / everything else - C Will not be returning - shame considering I was going to look at property to invest in. The service isn't up to par of competitive tracks. - when you check in, there's nobody there to get your bags (despite waiting 10 min) - the range is off mats. All par 3s are off mats - if I'm paying $350 to play, I want to hit off real grass. Update - just played wolf creek and all par 3s were on real grass and the staff there was perplexed that Black Desert was off mats - the range closes at 2 pm!? - food/non alcoholic drinks are included, but the only refreshment station is on hole 14 - if you tee off on 10, you don't go by any station at the turn or front 9 - and if you try to get a bite after the round, they tell you it will cost you additional money - no coffee at the 1 refreshment station or on the cart girl carts - and no milk alternatives (soy, almond, oat) - very active / loud construction all around the course read more

One of the most beautiful and best golf courses I've ever played. The backdrop is majestic and the course was in pristine condition. They're hosting a PGA Tour event in October so they were getting ready for that while I played there in July. The staff was great too and you have to play with a caddy. Caddy was really cool as well. If you are in the St George area of Southern Utah this course needs to be at the top of your to do list. read more

She also looked trashy like she just had rolled out of bet, for being a high end event I expect all the staff to be put together and behave, but it was disappointing with the one girl. Stayed here during a vacation to St. George. As soon as we arrived at the resort, the buildings were constructed incredibly and the entire resort looked amazing. Most of the resort is still under construction but the sections that were open looked very organized and finished. The resort was huge and you can find a pro shop, multiple different restaurants, and breathtaking views. The black rocks and the lake compromise each other which creates a beautiful landscape. The lobby had a modern look and there was plenty of seating to recharge after a long trip. Along with the nice seating, there is a small coffee shop offering a variety of pastries and morning amenities. The hotel room was big enough to accommodate a family of 4 and the balcony offered amazing views of the red rocks in the distance. On their online website, the Resort is supposed to add more hotel rooms, restaurants, and an entire water park complex will be built in the future. Once this entire resort is finished, this resort will be even more stunning and many tourists will be willing to stay here. We also visited Latitude while staying at the resort and the food was delicious and well presented. Overall an amazing experience and we will be back soon!! read more
