Another day and another amazing coffee experience at Black Elephant. On this occasion I took the time to sit and sip in the coffee shop. Love the way they craft their drinks and the relaxed vibe of this place lends itself to a good respite on an otherwise hectic day. Today we were serenaded by a variety of light jazz courtesy of Mr Nat King Cole

I've had this place bookmarked for a while! the coffee is good, and really smooth, but it's too watered down for my liking. I ordered the peanut butter latte and it also didn't taste much like peanut butter. I'm not sure if they just didn't put in enough syrup or what happened. The cost is also way too high for the amount of coffee/vs ice they give you in my opinion. They have a small size, comparable to a tall at Starbucks and it's still over $7 for the smallest size of coffee. I'm not sure what the regular sizing costs. I would go back to try more flavors, but it wouldn't be my go-to! The inside is also really cute! they have a nice waiting area. I also wish they had more table space outside to sit as well since there was no seating when we went.

Best chagaccino I've ever tried! Usually they don't taste like coffee to me at all but this one was strong & flavorful. Would definitely come back for another one or to try something else. Long lines but not a long wait at all & friendly service 10/10 recommend if you're in the area

I was driving by and decided to stop by for coffee, while it was busy they were fast with getting orders ready. The ambiance was cozy and cute, and the latte i had was really tasty. Will for sure stop by again if I'm in the neighborhood again.

    This the Charcoal Rose Latte

Black Elephant Café has quickly become one of my favorite spots in Atwater. The vibe is cozy, creative, and just the right amount of quirky. The matcha lavender latte is the star of the show. It's beautifully balanced: earthy matcha, a gentle floral note from the lavender, and just enough sweetness to tie everything together. It's the kind of drink you think about later in the day and wish you had another. And then there's the chocolate cake . The small ugly one that comes in a mini loaf, it was rich, moist, and deeply chocolatey without being overly heavy. It pairs perfectly with their drinks and feels like a little reward every time you order it.

The coffee was so good. I wish that they had larger sizes. If you're looking for a good cup of coffee, this is the place to go.

    Mexican Mocha Coffee

Try the Mexican Mocha coffee! One of our favorite coffee is from this coffee shop. We happened upon this cafe while we were just taking a walk and browsing the stores. The barista recommended the Mexican Mocha coffee and we were hooked. It has a deep rich mocha taste without being overly sweet. The mocha also doesn't overpower the taste of the expresso so both really come through in this drink. You can usually find seating and there is a bathroom for customers. Service is pretty quick and pleasant. Street parking available. Usually park and explore some of the cute stores near by.

This place has the worst customer service! I came in on Sunday morning with my partner. I ordered an iced matcha latte, and my partner got a hot mocha latte. When we placed our order, the cashier seemed like she had woken up on the wrong side of the bed. She asked what I wanted, and when I said "matcha," she responded with an attitude: "Okay? So what do you want in it?! What kind of milk? Do you want it sweetened or what?!" Her tone was unnecessary. Their menu clearly lists an iced matcha latte, so I was simply reading what they offer. She could have asked me nicely. My partner had the same experience when he ordered his mocha. If we're ordering items directly from the menu, they should be made as listed. I'm not the type of person who likes to modify drinks, but if I needed a specific type of milk, I would mention it. People go to coffee shops to relax, hang out with friends, or enjoy drinks they can't make at home. There's absolutely no need for such an attitude. The matcha drink was too sweet, and I could barely taste the matcha. The mocha latte was just okay--it tasted like regular hot cocoa. I will not be coming back to this café.

I have passed by this coffee shop many times and never noticed it until today. I have been to their Burbank shop before but not here. The service was friendly and quick, beautiful interiors with plenty of tables and chairs, some outdoor seating. Great place to hang out with friends and grab some coffee I ordered the cold brew with easy milk and enjoyed it much. I will try other drinks next time I'm nearby. The only bad thing is the parking situation.

    Chai latte and poppyseed muffin
    Veronique B.

Food is delicious! I had a poppy seed blueberry muffin that was just the right level of sweetness, with the perfect amount of blueberries. My friend tried the tomato basil tart and absolutely loved it. I went with a chai latte, but now I'm really eager to come back and try the white chocolate latte. The service was great, and the ambiance was lovely. It's located on a busy street, but there are so many cute little LA shops and restaurants nearby, making it a nice spot to visit.

They still have their valentine specials- I ordered the dark chocolate strawberry latte. That is a perfect combo in a drink! There was a small line, but it moved quickly & the staff were friendly. They have lots of indoor seating & outdoor seating. Great place to do work or meet up with friends! They're dog friendly too!

Went here on a trip with my friends, decent ceremonial grade matcha, offers default no sweetener which is appreciated. Their horchata coffee is great too. Beautiful ambiance and quick service! After the ice melts you can't taste the matcha, ask for lite ice

Sage cheddar croissant on the right was nice. Chocolate croissant on the left was ok. Coffee was good. Overall, I enjoyed coffee here but not much for pastries.

Head to the partially sectioned off cocktail bar. Want to spend a balmy summer evening with friends? Enjoy an Aperol spritz and salad in the garden patio. Want a cozy book nook? Enjoy a late night pot of tea and slice of cake in an overstuffed armchair in the back. The only problem is that I always want all of these vibes at once and end up spending way too much money (no matter how hard I try I can never leave without a $12 slice of cake). This kind of space is so hard to find and has to be created organically. It's not so old that it feels stuck in time, but it's not so new that it feels devoid of character and history. Any place that makes me feel like I can stay a while can take all my hard earned money.

We ordered at the counter inside and sat at a cute umbrella shaded table on the patio close to the entrance. We'd already had our coffee so we ordered a big bottle of sparkling water with lemon and two Quiches. I went with veggie and mom went with the Lorraine (ham & cheese). The quiches came out in about 20 minutes and the presentation was very nice. Each quiche was served in an individual cast iron dish along with a fresh side salad, dressing on the side. My quiche was delicious. Full of fresh veggies and perfectly cooked. The salad was a healthy accompaniment. My mom's quiche on the other hand was a bit dried out and tasteless. Sadly, she was unable to eat it. I shared mine with her, and we told the folks at the counter. While they didn't take it off the (pricey) check, they did offer any dessert on the house. I opted for a mini citrus olive oil cake which I took home. Still have not tried it... but it looks good. So the verdict on the Alcove is that it is very cute inside and out. There is TONS of outdoor seating in the front and on the side. There's also lots of cute & eclectic seating inside. There's a beautiful antique bar, neat little seating nook in the back, and a spot for everyone. They have valet parking, and there's tons of street parking on adjacent side streets. Alcove really has some potential and it is a chill, aesthetic, and relaxing place to have breakfast or lunch, work on a laptop, catch up with friends, grab a libation during happy hour, or just pop in for a coffee and a muffin. It may be a little while before I come back to give Alcove another try, but I do believe that it will fully deliver on the second go around. Peace.

Dark meat chicken kabob, best in LA!…read more I've been to over 50 kabob places around LA, lived near Glendale for a decade, tried all the famous sit down establisments to the not so famous hole in the wall joints but this to me is the best chicken kabob I've ever had in LA, or ever actually. First of all, the fact that you can choose dark meat is unique and appreciated. Secondly their rice is alway so well done, perfection. Third, their sides are incredible, creamy hummus, a bright and vibrant Shiraz salad and their garlic toum texture is almost like mashed potatoes puree, with right amount of garlic tang without being overpowering. The chicken kabob itself was so well marinated and tender it melts in your mouth and elevates this often overlooked protein into something so memorable. It's a perfect meal and their consistency is appreciated. I judge every Mediteranean restaurant that offers kabobs on their chicken kabob to see how well it is marinated, prepared and cooked, and Sidewalk Grills chicken kabob can't be beat imo, try it and I'm betting you will agree.
