This place is amazing! They make almost everything there - even their ketchup! Unfortunately, not their butter. They give you a delicious basket of bread - orange zesty biscuit, donut, blueberry scone, muffins. I ordered the reuben eggs benedict. I was not disappointed. I also went on Sunday during brunch and ordered a mimosa and their spin on a Bloody Mary (had a clever name that I don't recall). The mimosa was small but the Bloody Mary was great! Spicy. I would order the same meal again. I love that they make nearly everything at the restaurant, I was sad because they didn't make the butter there though. Everything is so fresh and delicious. I don't get the hype. I've been here a few times & each time it's the same thing - boring "blah" food for too much money. I'm not picky at all & I do appreciate everything from diner food to exquisitely made sushi to pizza to vegetarian/vegan fare, & this place really is nothing special. Outstanding food and service. I have had many meals here now and every one has been very unique, high quality and delicious! The soups are all amazing- way better than any Panera soup. So far, we have tried the chicken pot pie, the Mediterrenean veggie burger (awesome!) the salmon cakes and their burger and all were perfectly prepared in every way. The pastries and desserts are also the best in the area. I would agree with other reviewers that the food is more upscale than you would expect with the casual and comfortable decor. The Black Forest is our go-to place when we are looking for a relaxing evening with delicious food and cozy atmosphere. We are very particular about eating only real food, cooked with fresh ingredients. The Black Forest makes everything from scratch and the menu is very innovative and delicious. I like the fact that they change the menu seasonally, too. When we are on the go and looking for a quick lunch or snack, the wraps and quiches are delicious , especially their chicken salad, which is to die for! If you have a sweet tooth, you will be pleasantly surprised by their decadent, and made from scratch, scones, cookies, cakes, pies, and tarts, and, one of my favorites, their fig bars. Do not go to the Black Forest if you are disabled particularly in a wheelchair. There was no accommodation to my disability and we were refused a table that would accommodate the wheelchair. When we first came in we told the hostess that we wanted a table and should have been first on the list but because I went to the ladies room while waiting for a table she gave it to someone else who came in after us. We waited 20 to 25 minutes for a table and was given one that could not function with the wheelchair. When other tables opened up that were wheelchair accessible we were denied a table by the manager. We have been longstanding customers but will never go back even when I am out of the wheelchair. DO NOT GO TO THE BLACK FOREST if you want courteous treatment. read more

I thought I'd chime in and add a GREAT review. My daughter lives not far from here and we've used this as our 'meeting place' about half a dozen times. I can honestly say that neither of us has ever had a bad meal or experience here. Its quirky, not 'elegant' but good solid edible food of average proportions, served with a smile and always clean and the presentation is excellent. the table spacing is good, you don't feel crowded at all which is quite nice. We always stop at the bakery on the way out to take something home, and have on one occasion grabbed a quick bite in the bakery cafe instead of the dining room when pressed for time. it was excellent also. I think perhaps people expect to make a best friends with the wait staff and enjoy the best meal they've ever had with any restaurant experience - and that is setting yourself up for not liking anywhere you dine! so all in all, I travel a great deal for work -- usa and abroad, and I can honestly say, this place is a gem. read more

Over the years, this place has been consistently excellent. Today's visit was the same. Their bakery always has a huge, varied selection of seasonal tastes and textures, their takeout is outstanding and there's a cozy cafe where you can sit and eat or there are a couple of umbrella tables outside. I can honestly say I've never been disappointed in anything I've ever gotten there. Today, I had a roasted root vegetable salad and a pear/oat bar that prompted me to beg for their recipes or at least their ingredient list so I could try to recreate it and they happily complied! I go here about 3-4 days per week for coffee, either for myself or for my husband and friends. I also meet with folks here for business meetings, a brunch for my family after our wedding, and I've also met with a networking group in the dining room part of the cafe. Here are my thoughts, the service at the Black Forest, on the cafe side, is phenomenal, they are super friendly, they start to learn their regular customers by name and despite the fact that they are EXTREMELY busy and often overwhelmed, they really do a nice job of being polite and getting everyone served. I found the service in the dining room to be a tad on the slower side, but still polite. Back to the cafe side, I have only eaten food from there once and I didn't LOVE it, it was rather generic and bland tasting. I do however like the coffee, although I think they should bring on a second coffee roasting company as well (A&E tends to taste a bit burnt). I will say, that I am pleased by the strength of the coffee, as many places make very weak coffee. Black Forest does not and that is a huge plus. On the restaurant side, I have had two lunches and found them both to be very flavorful and satisfying. I think this is a crowd-pleasing restaurant with a wide range that appeals to many. read more

Favorite spot to dine casually in NH. Food is New England comfort food and always delicious. They rotate the menu seasonally and there is always a new dish to look forward to. Sunday brunches are fantastic. Hosting and waiting staff are friendly and accommodating. Desserts are hard to skip. Have experienced the Black Forest Cafe on many occasions. ..just felt the need to share the good news with others who appreciate good food. My last visit was with a good friend of mine. We stopped in for a quick lunch and sat in the front/bakery area. We each had a cup of curriend butternut squash soup.. (wish I had ordered the BOWL) and a wrap. The soup was extremely tasty with just a hint of heat on the finish.. The chicken salad has always been one of my favorites.I picked up a fresh loaf of Anadama Bread (still warm), to take home. No matter what they make, it always takes the prize on presentation and flavor.Looking forward to my next visit. . read more

This is definitely a restaurant that benefits from limited competition in the area. They are also definitely catering to the retired crowd. At one point I would have given this place 5 stars but the 4 years we've lived here it has definitely changed. The first year and a half it was the best then after that it has been a turn off. The scenery inside changed which was ok. Liked the old look better and the food CHANGED! I have been going to the Black Forest ever since I moved to NH about thirteen years ago. A friend told me about the cafe and it was definitely one of the better recommendations I have received. I love the Pumpkin Spice Cookies and I must admit the French Silk Pie. I love the cookies so much I asked for the recipe and now I can make my own. I ate the French Silk Pie in two sittings. Half each time. I controlled myself because I could hav eaten it all in one night. Yummy and worth the trip!!! read more

Several weeks ago my neighbors called and asked if we would like to go along to this great restaurant they found in Amherst. I had to laugh and I told them we have been enjoying the Black Forest for several years. My favorite restaurant dish is the Beef Brisket, which is very tender and flavorable. The two stars in this review are because the Black Forest parking lot has rim busting pot holes that never seem to get adequately fixed. went there with my wife for lunch. super nice staff all the way around from the hostess,waitress, to the bakery staff. she got their special lemonade with lavender and honey. i tried a sip and it was incredible. the garlic bread they start you off with was warm and delicious. wasnt overbearing with garlic which was great. i ordered the korean bbq pulled pork sandwhich. it came with kimchi which gave it a nice crunch and a little spice. sandwhich was superb! it also came with roasted potatoes and homemade ketchup which was outstanding! the wife got a turkey club sandi with roasted turkey NOT deli meat. She said it was the best turkey club she had ever had. i tried a bite and it was awesome. the bacon bad a smokey flavor which was to die for! a little bit pricy but i have no problem paying for excellent food and great service. will be back to try the brunch read more
