The food is some of the best bar b q in the area. The thing I love the most is that it supports our military. The staff is always welcoming and friendly they even offer to clear your table if your letting your food digest before leaving. It's got plenty of seating but there's not a ton to look at. I stopped in to Black Hog BBQ after being in the area for work and was excited to finally visit. This is a business I have been hearing about for nearly 2 years and have been wanting to check out. I was generous and rounded my review up to 4 stars but a 3.5 star review is more accurate of this restaurant. I ordered the two meat platter picking brisket and Arkansas brisket (burnt ends). Food came out fast and was fresh. All the meat was wonderfully cooked (having lived in OK and TX I am particular about bbq). I would have liked a little more "bark" on the brisket but that's a personal preference. The MD baked beans were one of my sides and they were impressive. Good flavor with some spice to them but they did have ZERO smoke taste. The Mac and Cheese also had ZERO smoke taste, was not hot, and lacked the creaminess I was looking for. I would not recommend the Mac and cheese. Corn bread was dry... no surprise there. In summary - the meats are good, the sides are hit and miss. I would like to see them offer a 3 or 4 meat meal option so an individual could really sample the menu. read more

We were on our way to a sandwich shop when we spotted Black Hog and decided to check out their menu. It looked delicious so we switched gears and got a table. What we got: Whole hog (review of our choice of sides below) - 3.5* I really liked the meat (nice and moist), the slider was alright (drier meat), the dry rib wasn't amazing though I really enjoyed the rub (they accidentally gave us a wet rib and let us keep it. I thought the wet rib was better but that could be because they had their delicious kansas city sauce on it. My husband thought the flavoring on both were really good but the meat didn't fall off the bone which is his gold standard for good ribs), and the cracklings weren't my favourite but I don't like them to begin with. We were disappointed the pickle wasn't a whole pickle, just three slices. And the pickles onions were also almost a small handful but I did like them. The cornbread was really good! Arkansas brisket (add on, son1/4 lb) - 4* I enjoyed it and loved the sauce. My more intense bbq connoisseur husband thought it was a bit overcooked and relied too much on the sauce for flavor Sides: Brown sugar sweet potato - 3.5* my favourite part was drinking down the leftover sugar juices. The bbq here is a solid choice! Everything is truly good and we look forward to our next visit . Our visit visit was pretty late and they had sold out of much of their menu. Our second one - we came back specifically to try the whole hog platter. It was a bit disappointing with the volume and styles of meats. but still had several types of pork included which was different from some of the other cuts usually offered. However, on this visit, they were out of almost all their menu items -- only sausage and chicken were available. Unfortunately, I ended up leaving to grab dinner elsewhere since I was really looking forward to some barbecue. It just opened this week so the staff especially bartenders seemed to need some extra help or experience (service was very slow), but they were very kind and friendly. They have 2 draft beers on tap, and happy hour is 4pm to 6:30pm weekdays $2 off drinks. No happy hour food deal. Wish they do some small munchies on the menu. Rib platter was very good and an excellent food value. I had the mac & cheese and potato salad sides. Both also very good. My wife had a pulled pork sandwich and fries. She said it was both tender and delicious. We had never been here before and picked the place just because it had a unique name. We'll be back! I used to live in the area years ago and knew about this place and loved it then. Recently, I had the opportunity to come back to town and made it here for dinner on a Saturday evening. It absolutely hit the spot. After having so many 'disappointing' BBQ dinners in and around Baltimore, it was great to come back to BBQ that tastes so good. I got the pulled pork sandwich with baked beans and my boyfriend got a brisket platter with cole slaw and mac 'n cheese. Everything was excellent and we are looking forward to making the drive out again to come back. We asked for the gumbo starter and the server was nice enough to bring it in 2 separate bowls without us asking! The food was amazing, the gumbo was spicy but enjoyable, the only thing I didn't enjoy too much was the chicken-it was dry but well seasoned! We will definitely be going back. Well if you like BBQ joints, there is a lot to like here. If you don't, you'd mind the menu as challenging as three-dimensional chess. During a recent midweek lunch, the near-empty restaurant pleased our plates with Arkansas-Style brisket (perhaps similar to burnt ends, bathed in semi-sweet, thick sauce) and excellent side dishes. On balance, the menu and taste (limited so far by what we did order) compares favorably with Mission Barbecue. (I consider Mission to be the Chevrolet of such places - a solid choice that represents a minimum acceptable standard). Prices were a little steep; is the $15 lunch now in the rear-view mirror because it cannot be attained here. A little less food for a little less money, on the lunch menu, could earn that 5th star. Maybe they earn it when I return and try something diffeent, which I plan to do. One final point: the location provides lots of local competition to Black Hog; requiring them to keep on their toes to continue to succeed. Let's hope they do. read more

I had unsweetened iced tea along with a water with lemon and my other half went with the sweetened tea. I had the 1/2 rack of St. Louis ribs, naked. My sides were coleslaw and macaroni and cheese. Other food at the table -beef brisket, baked beans, potato salad and cornbread. The ribs were scrumptious, tender, and tasty. My favorite sauces were the original, mustard and the vinegar. I liked the potato salad and the coleslaw--they were both fresh. The cornbread was moist and yummy. The Mac and Chez was good too. I didn't taste the beans. I took an order of Buffalo wings home. The server was super nice and attentive. By the way, I was full after 2 ribs and we left me take home bags. The restaurant was full when we left. We came here on a busy Saturday for lunch. The place was packed. Our waitress was amazing. She had a big smile on every time she came by. Even though it was pretty busy, our diet coke and iced tea were always filled. Food was pretty amazing too. Dry rubbed ribs were so good.
