    Hot pot!

KPot in Frederick MD never disappoints! The food is always on point, fresh, flavorful, and absolutely delicious. What really made our visit extra special was Cece's exceptional customer service. She was so friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed. You can tell she truly cares about her customers! We had a wonderful experience and will definitely be coming back. Highly recommend KPot!

TLDR: This is like the Applebee's of Korean BBQ. Very Americanized with lots of cut corners. If looking for a more traditional Korean dining experience, skip this spot or risk being disappointed. On the way home from a weekend road trip out of the city, we decided to stop here for our first Korean BBQ experience since moving to the east coast. As others have said, the lighting is very dim, which makes it difficult to confirm when your food is done grilling. We opted for the BBQ-only lunch option (not the combo of DIY BBQ and hot pot). The lunch portions are typically smaller with thinner-cut meats. All diners are on a 2-hour time limit, which is reasonable. Rather than provide diners typical Korean side dishes, which is what I always prefer to spend most of my time and calories consuming, there is a buffet that has only extremely limited veggie options. I went for the kimchi and seaweed salad (not a typical Korean side dish, but it was one of the only green things available). The kimchi was definitely a McDonald's-like version of traditional kimchi, not as fully fermented and with lots of filler. The most disappointing part of this chain of restaurants is the dinnerware. It's been widely researched and reported that hot food and plastics do not mix. Given the known carcinogenic effects, I was surprised that the only plates or bowls here are made of plastic. As such, I avoided putting any food from the grill onto my plate and instead ate straight from the grill. Not ideal. As for the usual dipping sauces that accompany Korean BBQ, this was--you guessed it--DIY. I tend to prefer a salt/pepper/oil dipping sauce, but there wasn't really any neutral oil on the buffet, so I went with the vinegar option instead. As for the meat quality, the ones that come marinated are by far of lower quality. I would recommend the beef belly or beef brisket, neither of which is marinated and are much closer to typical Korean BBQ-style meat. My other preferred selections were both types of mushrooms and onion. I also ordered green tea, but it never arrived because they didn't have hot water (what??). Paper napkins (the only option here) are not on the table or buffet and are provided sparingly. Bottom line: Service was good and efficient. Food, ambiance, and dinnerware were extremely lacking. I hear Annandale has authentic Korean BBQ, so maybe try that instead.

Our server was attentive and friendly and the food was great as always. He even brought us ice cream at the end of our meal!

I enjoyed the hotpot as there's a good selection of items. The Korean BBQ has varied quality of meat; if you get Korean BBQ I recommend getting the thinner meats because the thicker ones were tougher and didn't appear to have as much marbling. The sauce station is great because there are great suggestions of sauce combinations. It was also nice that they offer free fruit juices (in the fridge section) along with the meal. Service was good despite the restaurant being busy, and it was so nice of them to sing happy birthday to the various tables celebrating. Nice atmosphere.

The pork was fried well and the breading wasn't overwhelming or too much. You can either eat the fried pork by itself, dip it in the sweet and sour sauce, or pour the sauce all over the fried pork. I liked to dip the pork in the sauce so the pork stays crispy. I was surprised that the onion and bell pepper were raw in the sauce. I would have enjoyed it more if they were cooked. There were also carrots and pineapple in the sauce.

Masheeneun Joonggook Jip, aka 'Delicious Chinese Restaurant' offers your typical Korean-Chinese fare, such as jajangmyun, jjambbong, tang soo yook, ggangpoongi, etc. We came here for lunch, and we ordered: +jajangmyun - wasn't a fan of the black bean sauce, as there seemed to hardly be any flavor - it was super bland; also, the noodles were overcooked and were 'swollen' +hae mool jjambbong - the seafood jjambong's broth had a spicy kick to it; unfortunately, the broth was super thin, and while there were ample amount of mussels, the squid had a fishy smell to them and were not fresh; there were tons of noodles, however, but just like the jajangmyun, they was overcooked +soon sahl dak gganpoongi - these came boneless; this was actually not a bad dish, as the sauce wasn't too syrupy sweet as most Korean-Chinese places make them; they had a slight kick to them, had tons of veggies (bell peppers, peas, onions), and tons of sauce, which would be great eating with a bowl of rice I was a little surprised that the only banchan they gave you with the meal was the dakgwang (pickled yellow radish), but no kimchi or ggakdoogi (fermented radish cubes); I also thought that a bowl of rice would have been served with the entrees, like the gganpoongi. There was about a 40-minute wait (which we were quoted), as there were a lot of patrons ordering from this place - a recommendation would be to get there earlier before the lunch rush. This seems to be run by a husband-and-wife team, and they were really slinging everything; super kind. This may be a good option for those living in the Frederick area, but definitely not worth the trek for us. Glad we were able to try it, but we wouldn't return. Plenty of parking in the lot. +stick with the gganpoongi +overcooked noodles +order near the Sogongdong Tofu place for any eatery items +located inside H Mart +plenty of parking in lot

Boo-hoo, look around and you'll find a spot unless you're driving a yacht. Now, to the setting and the food...the setting is the way I like it. Rustic, clean, unassuming, not fancied up. Wooden privacy screens are set in between tables. (Perhaps because of Covid? Not sure.) This to me was really comfortable, didn't feel like I was stuck in a cattle car. I'm sure there's Korean BBQ here but we weren't at such a table. In fact it looked like grills had been removed from some tables and replaced with wooden covers. So nice to have that extra space because... Ordered bibimbap, bulgogi, steamed dumplings, etc. The extra side dishes I enjoy (kimchi, sprouts, etc.) were there as well. Ice tea, yadda yadda. Korean music was playing but it wasn't loud, on another screen by the kitchen I could see Family Guy. Again, not loud or intrusive. Didn't feel like they skimped on portions, there was plenty. Almost too much, wasn't sure I'd manage to finish the bulgogi but I did...mmm. Overall, this place is a nice break from other places. If you want to take someone out and just enjoy yourselves, this would be it. Perhaps a bit different when full, but still. Btw, it's been 13 years since I first went here. This week was only the second time. I totally forgot where it was or whether it was still around. So glad it is.
