My friend was looking for a place to do Candle making for her birthday. We had planned another event around the corner for my friend's birthday. We paid and booked online was very easy to do. We arrived a little early and was able to take picture in front of the flower wall or sit by the fireplace. When it was our turn. We were placed at table as a group or if you came by yourself, you were placed where there were empty sits. Our Host was Julius he explained everything step by step. We were able to pick every aspect of our candle from the holder to the scent, and to the color. This was a great experience and something that I have recommended to friends and family every chance I get. read more

We were in Chicago this last week to celebrate our anniversary. My husband planned the candle making class for us - a fantastic and intimate experience. We weren't able to make it to the originally planned Thursday evening class, and thankfully Julius was able to accommodate us on Friday at 1pm. We were the only attendees in this class; however, there was seating available for 16. Julius was very informative and you can feel his passion for his candle business! This is a hands on class, but there were plenty of opportunities for pictures and videos to capture the memories. The location is beautifully decorated - with a waiting area that has a fire pit and fireplace, great music videos on the tv and tons of art from local artists. During the candle making experience, we were able to select the specific glass container we wanted and the specific scent we wanted. There were a ton of scents to choose from - light and airy, fresh or sensual scents - all your choice! After we poured our candles and were waiting for them to set (harden), we purchased some additional candles, some scents for a wax warmer and lids for the candles we made. Julius generously provides 20% off the additional items, if purchased after the class. I was pleased to learn they also have a website available with shipping. Black Luxe candles smell fantastic and would make a perfect gift! If you are looking for a hands on class, Julius was an entertaining, informative and kind host! The cost is extremely reasonable for the amount of time it takes and having your own candle to take home with you! There are several areas set up within the studio for selfies or pictures! You are also able to bring your own beverages, with no corkage fee. The candle making class would be perfect for couples, friends, girls night out, or a small family gathering. If I lived in Chicago, I would bring my employees here for a team building event! We had a 5 plus star, perfect experience. Thinking back, the only thing I would suggest is for Black Luxe to offer 2 additional items for the candle making experience: pre-printed labels so we could remember the scent we chose (for future purchases on the same scent) and pre-printed labels for people who may not want to decorate/draw their own label (same sticker size but could be simple as the Black Luxe logo, a flower, the Chicago skyline outline, zodiac signs, a pineapple, etc) Again, highly recommended - not only for the candle making class, but also for their already made candles and the local art work!! read more

I loved, loved, loved it! I was brought here by my lady for an out-on-the-town date night. I thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance. They play beautiful 90's neo-soul/r&b and it smelled amazing throughout. The host was very funny and the owner came in to help out. I highly recommend this business for your candling-making needs. I'm still using my candle, as it has a 40+ hour burn life. Black Luxe Candle Co. is a beautiful candle making store that is perfect for any get together! Walking in, you're met with stunning modern decor. There's a waiting area right at the front of the store with a TV playing classic RnB music to set the vibe. The whole experience was roughly an hour. But the actual candle making is quite quick. You gather your supplies, place the wax on the warmer, pick your scents (the best part!), mix it with the wax, make a label, and let it set. It was lots of fun mixing scents and finding the best one. Everyone had a scent that was so personalized! I believe my candle was a mix of Cashmere and Rest and Refresh and it smelled divine. I have yet to burn it just yet. They offer many options for candle "vessels" too! Overall it was such a great experience. We forgot it was BYOB. They have glasses available. The experience is about $60 which, yes a $60 candle is expensive. But it's a fun thing to do with friends, it's customized, it's Wicker Park, and you're paying for the experience! It's a stunning location and a very luxurious interior. While you wait for your candles to set, there are a few backdrops you can take cute photos at. There's also plenty of food options in the area. Plenty of street parking is available but there's also a back lot you can find a SpotHero for. Our host was so passionate about leading the class and did a great job instructing us. Funny how I ended up coming here. Originally my lady and I were going to Topgolf for her birthday but they had some weather damage and had to close and refund my deposit a few hours before our reservation. I needed another activity to fill on for that one and I knew we both wanted to do a candle making class. We had dinner plans so I need one that was open a little later and this was the only place that was open after 8pm. What a great decision to come here. The owner Brittney and her husband Julius run this BLACK OWNED establishment and I would say that it's one of the gems in the area. Of course it's BYOB and the provide drinking glasses. My purchase was $60 per person and that provides all of your needed materials for the candle making. Brittney made the experience very enjoyable with her enthusiastic personality you can tell she is very passionate and enjoy sharing this art with others. The best part was picking the fragrances for your candle. You are able to use 2 choices from a multitude of different fragrances. This was a very enjoyable experience. I have moved away from the Chicagoland area since I had my candle making experience. It was a wonderful time at Black Luxe for me, as I attended the Bloom & Glow event. Is it overpriced? NO. IYKYK!
