Rip off! Used Groupon - asked about using Groupon before I even sat down - employee told us not to worry as it would be same price or just a $1 difference. I wasn't told of about any extra charges for BYOB, or anything else. Groupon price $55. They tried to charge me $79. I paid with Groupon. Now they are calling multiple times and texting me to pay more because their computer system said they were short because of taxes. I would up having to pay $5 BYOB fee + $0.56 tax on the $5. Even though we had a good time, still upset at the deceit. EVERY SINGLE PERSON WAS CHARGED BYOB! They did not uncork the wine and did not ask us for our IDs until the end. DO NOT GO! OMG! Went to treat our son's girlfriend to a birthday treat as she loves candles. Blank Mason is located at Old Orchard shopping mall in Skokie. Parking was pretty easy considering it's the holiday season. We had reservations and as we walked in, we were greeted immediately and checked it. They showed us to our workstation and settled in. The store is brightly lit and smaller if different fragrances. It was not over bearing and smelled nice. Our candle expert introduced herself to us and let us know the process. She was very nice and explained everything clearly. Through the process she was helpful with answering our questions or checked in on us. After mixing our scents into the melted wax, we selected our decorations. We left and were asked to return in 1 hour so the candles can harden. When we returned we decorated the candles. Overall, what a great experience. Candles ranged from $55 to $40 dollars to start and can go higher depending on options. You can also BYOB and or Food if you wanted to have a party! Service was great. Abby guided us all through out the process and she gave her opinions and is very helpful with the scents. Mine was a mixed of all the 4 scents that i liked and it turned out great. I love it!!!! I live the candle holder selections. Everything is so pretty. Price for the candle would depend on what you choose as your candle holder. I just wish it was more free add ons instead of just 2. And they also have a room spray! And they also have some cute selfie stations! But i will definitely be back. This was my first time making my own candle and what an experience it was! Blank and Mason's storefront decor gave boutique vibes with plenty of IG photo ops (with ring light to boot!). I could see how this would be a great option for date night or girlfriend time- especially with the BYOB policy. The scents are fabulous! I definitely had some difficulty whittling down the options and big thank you to Liz for helping me along the way. The scent ranged from floral to woody to clean. I appreciated the seasonal offerings as well.I chose to blend two seasonal offerings. Even though I have not lit the candle, it has been filling my home with a wonderful scent I loved the additions we were able to add to our candles as it added an extra oomph factor. My boyfriends 10 year old daughter goes crazy smelling candles when we're at the store so when I found Blank Mason Candle Bar it was absolutely necessary to book a candle experience with her (and her dad of course!). We had a great time, picking our own vessel, she smelled every available scent - she went with the first one she smelled Birthday cake- and then we customized it with glitter, crystals and/or botanicals. Now. My only critique is the pricing. Three candles later, it gets a bit pricey. If anything I would suggest including the lid instead of charging an additional fee. I recently visited Blank Mason Candle Bar for a group event and had a wonderful time creating a custom-made candle. The process was interactive, candle making tools with choice of vessel were provided and our instructor guided us step by step. It was a lot of fun personalizing your scent using the options from their fragrance bar. The fragrance bar displayed scents organized in separate categories (i.e. woodsy, clean, floral, seasonal and sweet). With so many options to choose from, honing it down to two was quite the challenge. I managed to pick my two scented oils and blended them into the hot wax. As the wax set, I found time to go over their menu of botanical and crystal add-ons for toppers. From there, I selected my faves and went ahead to let my creativity run wild. Post visit, I really enjoyed my custom candle creation and I absolutely love the way it looks and smells! I'm almost hesitant to light it because its just too pretty to use. Mason Candle bar is the perfect option for any event or just going solo. This place is a wonderful addition to the Old Orchard mall if you're looking to do something fun and creative. Growing up in Skokie, I've seen so many stores in this corner of the mall, but am so glad that Blank Mason is now there. When you walk into the store, it is warm with bright lights, stunning decor, and of course smells AMAZING. The hospitality from the staff makes you feel right at home from the get go. Blank Mason allows you to make one large candle, or two small ones, or one small and one spray, or even two sprays. The possibilities are endless. The best part is that with an instructor leading you through the different steps, you are able to customize the vessel the candle goes in, the scents, the botanicals, crystals and glitter! I came before Mother's Day with some family and friends and this makes the perfect gift, experience, date night, and more! Nice concept, and experience - staff is interesting. I brought my daughter and her friends in to celebrate her 16th birthday. The girls at the counter gave us the death stare when we walked in, and barely spoke to us. We sat down and waited for someone to come over and welcome us and give us direction, it wasn't until I looked over to get their attention did someone come over. The girl who helped us was speaking so low we could barely hear her. She barely smiled or engaged with us. Her demeanor was very robotic and not warm or friendly. When we came back to pick up our candles, we were welcomed back but not necessarily told where to stand to wrap up our candle process so we stood at the bar (there were 5 of us). As the young lady got us all bagged up, a couple of ladies walked in and stood behind us waiting to be seated, the original girl who helped us told us that we needed to move so the customers waiting could sit down. If we were directed on where to stand in the first place, we wouldn't have been in the way in the first place. Finally, I wanted to snap a quick photo of my daughter and her friends at the photo wall. There were bags and coats lined up along the wall from other customers -- and basically ruined our photo. Neither of the girls at the counter offered to move the items blocking the photo wall. Overall, I loved the selection of candles and offerings. It was a bit pricey, but ok for special occasions. I would let management know to work with their staff a bit on customer service, personality and friendliness. It goes a long way, and makes people want to come back. read more

This place is a modern simple upscale and elegant looking store which does candle making events. They told me that the wax is all a more eco friendly soy wax, the wicks are cotton, the scents are a mix of natural and synthetic fragrance but that they are all eco friendly and non toxic ingredients. Even the glitter is eco friendly! I believe everything is also vegan and cruelty free. The container options are I think all either glass or metal and reusable as well as recyclable. Really only the ingredients needing to eventually change I'd say are the stickers to place the wicks in the middle and the gift bags to be swapped out for an eco friendly sustainably harvested paper bag alternative as well as eventually all organic scents. Otherwise this place is very eco conscious which is extremely important to me and awesome that they put so much thought into this! Most other candle companies use extremely toxic and terrible for the environment ingredients so way to go Blank Mason! The candle making process is easy and fun and a great idea for a party or get together. I'd say it seems a bit pricey but it's quality eco friendly ingredients and quality employees who are super helpful and offer great suggestions. The candles all look so professional and fancy in the end. All in all a great eco friendly option for candle lovers! read more

Absolutely the cutest idea. My friend and I visited this morning for the first time. The gentleman helping us blend our candles was patient and knowledgeable. Such a cute place, very calm and quiet atmosphere .. at least this morning. Would be a great place for a girls day out, birthday party, bachelorette activity or shower instead of the bars. Had an awesome time hosting a 28th birthday party here! I brought 7 girls with me and they sat us on a long table together. It was BYOB with a small corking fee. The lady who helped us was so awesome and very patient with all of us when explaining what to do. There's so many cute candle jars to pick from and a TON scents its almost hard to choose! They were really accommodating with us and our dinner reservation and they were nice enough to add our chosen glitter, gems, and herbs for us when we had to leave. Wow! I don't even know where to start, what an amazing experience. I took my best friend here for her birthday and we both loved it so much. Ben (I hope I'm remembering his name right) was our specialist and he was super knowledgeable and guided us every step of the way. We each made 2 candles with our custom blended scent combos! I just used one mine today after letting it "cold cure" for a week and it smells amazing, and burns so evenly. I'll definitely be returning again soon! At other candle-making experience venues I've gone to, I've felt overwhelmed by choice. I felt that this place had the perfect amount of scents, and they were organized into different categories (woody, sweet, etc.) so I didn't feel that choice overload. I also really appreciated that we got to decorate our candles at the end. We're to start... $25 "Deposit" that doesn't go towards the candle. You will also have to pay $50 for a candle. $75 for a candle were your just combining 2 already finished scents. I was looking for more raw material oils to compose the candle. Your basically just selecting already composed scents (ex: tobacco+caramel, and it will have other notes in it already) instead of offering individual notes to ACTUALLY customize candles. BEWARE that they ALSO charge like $5 additional to put a freaking lid on a $75 candle.....like are you serious! Their are better places to go to make candles. Employees didn't even give candle making education and history for the prices. You could've followed a pamphlet to do this. read more
