Black Mountain Coffee Roasting is a mom and pop coffee tasting room and bean shop. They are tucked away from the main road. It's a small space that focuses on coffee tasting and roast bean sales. The owners are very sweet and have two little kids who may be out and about. There is also a small play room adjacent to the tasting room, if you have little kids yourself to preoccupy. This is a much more casual but equally friendly tasting experience than, say wine tasting at Middle Earth winery down the road. If that's more your jam. The coffee itself is quite good, which the owners roast themselves. I believe the tastings are pretty straightforward and focused on the beans. (Do not expect to request a caramel macchiato or anything.) If you're looking for an actual coffee shop to order your morning latte, go to Higher Grounds Coffee Shop down the road instead. read more

The first thing I noticed was that the owner really knew what he was talking about, and you can tell that he not only has been making coffee for a long time, but also has been passionate about coffee for a long time as well. Black Mountain Coffee Roasting was exactly what I needed on a warm Friday afternoon in the middle of Coronavirus time. I'm not a caffeine drinker but the refreshing Cascara iced drink (made from the fruit that encases the coffee bean), which had minimal caffeine, hit the spot. Their pleasant deck area with umbrellas that shared an outdoor area with several other businesses made me feel instantly at home. The owners not only wowed us with their artisanal specialties but also gave us some great tips for exploring the surrounding area such as Strawberry Creek and Humber Park. I will definitely be back. Went for an afternoon walk in search of some delicious coffee. Stopped in and grabbed a cold brew. It was so smooth and delicious. We spent some time in the picnic area where my daughter and dog could play for a bit while we enjoyed our coffee. It's the sweetest boutique coffee joint and the owners were so kind. They even helped us by suggesting some great places in town for dinner. read more

This is for customer service only. The guy who took our order was rude, impatient and unhelpful. The menu is set up like a wine tasting menu so it's a little tough to navigate if you haven't been here before. We were the only customers at the counter so I took a little while to look at the menu. The guy waiting for the order offered no help and was visibly annoyed that I had a question about the coffee. I just wondered if they had espresso not a complicated question right? My exchange with him was only a few minutes long but made me really uncomfortable. We finished ordering and moved aside and another couple arrived. A man came to the counter and was greeted in a cheery way by the same guy who just handled our order. He was a totally different person with this guy asking him enthusiastically "are you a local?!" the customer replied "no" he then responded in an even more cheery tone with a "welcome to idyllwild!". This coming from the same guy who could barely stop himself from rolling his eyes when taking our order. Moments later he puts on this display in front of us. I think he may have been in training so this is a notice for management. This person is inconsistent and can be rude to customers, so it may be best to keep him away from taking orders. read more

We found this cute little coffee shop while exploring Idylwild and we really enjoyed our pour over. They don't have any lattes but they do have a fun tasting option where you can try several flavors. It is located in a nice quiet area and is a great place to sit and relax for a bit. read more

Really cute shop with fantastically roasted coffee. The owners are often there with their two little ones, and the atmosphere is VERY relaxed... no snootiness here. My wife and I have visited on three separate occasions, and every time we love the coffee and company. In fact, I receive two pounds of coffee from them every month through their membership, which is a tremendous deal! Make sure you don't miss this place on your next visit! read more

Spotted this gem spontaneously and tried coffee tasting for the first time. Had a great first time experience because the lady gave us great customer service. She starts by asking about our coffee taste buds, likes, dislikes and brews coffee that best matches us. Even flavors and aromas that we weren't familiar with but tried. There's 3 rounds so we decided to go from light to medium to dark. The experience ends with a cold brew and it only costs $10 each person. The downside I would say is that the cups are reused each time so some flavors are mixed from before. Would definitely recommend though. read more

I bought a cup of coffee for my wife and she loved it so much that we went back the same day to do the coffee tasting. It was such a great experience. Chris, the owner, took the time to explain the origins of coffee beans and why the coffees tasted the way they did. The staff is also dedicated and very knowledgeable. Slowly enjoying a variety of coffees while being surrounded by nature and a gentle breeze; this is the best experience I've ever had at Idyllwild. We hope to bring friends here next time! read more

What a hidden gem! This tasting room is a MUST for coffee lovers. Going in, you see the owner with 3 or 4 different pour-overs on the counter, explaining the flavours and nuances of each roast. I am not normally a coffee addict. But I decided to get a pour one day and it turns into 3 days in a row and I purchased two bags of grounds. The coffee is transcendent. Blissful to the palate. It's definitely a true coffee NO cream needed. Drink as they brew it. You won't be disappointed Also, the staff was beyond helpful, friendly & courteous.
