This place is great! Not many brunch-y options in town, so we landed here and were not disappointed. It's a walk up & order type of place. Nice patio-plenty of space for your pup. Food is delicious but big portions so do come hungry! Service is great too. They also have a variety of mimosas! Will def be a place we frequent when in town!
A yummy, classic breakfast. My Belgian Waffle combo hit the spot and my friend enjoyed her chilaquiles. The green juice was super grainy, but the tropical smoothie was great. Nice staff and didn't take too long to get food. A little pricey, but that's normal in the mountain towns. Beautiful outdoor patio seating.
Perfect spot for breakfast and bunch! You can either order at the counter and take a seat or get your order taken after seated. We found it easier to order at the counter. All of the servers and workers were amazing. All super attentive and friendly. They have both indoor and outdoor seating. The portions were generous. The breakfast burrito was massive and is what you picture when you think of a breakfast burrito. The chilequiles red sauce was good. When my bf and I go out for breakfast/brunch, we love to order something sweet to balance out our savory order. We ordered the tiramisu French toast and wow! It was a proper French toast and it had good flavor. It was a bit too sweet for my taste though. I'd recommend this spot to anyone visiting Idyllwild.
This was our second visit, and we'll definitely be back. We drive about an hour from La Quinta to get here, and it's absolutely worth the trip. The restaurant is always clean, organized, and welcoming, and the restrooms are spotless as well. I ordered the chilaquiles with steak and chose the red sauce. I can usually handle spicy food, but this dish definitely had a nice kick to it. Everything tasted fresh, especially the microgreens, onions, and black beans. I also added two eggs over medium, which were cooked perfectly. The steak had good flavor overall, but mine was cooked more well-done than I would have preferred. I wasn't asked for a preferred temperature, so I'm not sure if that's an option. The ribeye is also sliced very thin, which may contribute to it cooking through more quickly. If I could suggest one improvement, it would be serving this dish on a flat plate rather than in a bowl. The bowl made it a little challenging to cut the steak comfortably, whereas a flat plate would make it easier to enjoy. Overall, the food was delicious, the restaurant is consistently well-maintained, and the experience was excellent. Looking forward to our next visit

It was covered in Chile verde sauce as well as the tenderest pork your fork can handle. Viola! So so so good. Topped with avocado and got sourdough that was also very good, I opted for the side of a hash brown but I have to say, next time I wanna try the home fries as they look bomb!!! BF got the breakfast burrito that is made with ribeye!!! It was sooo goood. We went halfsies so I got half of this culinary delight and it was even better once you add in the chipotle sauce that comes on top. I wanna come back like tomorrow and maybe I shall!!!
The food was more than adequate - it is unfortunate that when the order was placed it was requested No Green bell Peppers no onions - double checked and still the order came wrong. We picked them out as best we could yet the green bell peppers permeated the eggs bummer. Nice interior and exterior seating. Came today for breakfast with a big group. They had a lot of food options.They cleaned tables quickly as guests left so not a lot of waiting. The inside was pretty cozy. To order, you go to the register. It was really easy to order. Got the 3 combo with eggs,bacon, hasbrowns and sourdough toast. The bacon was good and crispy and hash browns were good too. We also got that California breakfast burrito and that was DELICIOUS. I highly recommend the burrito and chilaquiles because they also looked sooooooo good. I asked somebody who had it and they said they were absolutely delicious.
$80 for 4 waffles and 2 coffees. Soooo expensive, wow. The coffee was also so bad. please do yourself a favor and buy coffee at a real coffee shop in town. The food was good though. Most of the food in this town has no flavor but this place actually was good besides the coffee and prices.
Stopped into Mama's Egg House while up in Idyllwild and absolutely loved it. The food was fresh, flavorful, and felt homemade in the best way. The portions were generous, everything came out hot, and you can tell they really take pride in their breakfast dishes. The service was warm and attentive, and the whole spot has that cozy, mountain-town vibe that makes you want to linger a little longer. It's the kind of place you can come for a relaxed morning, good coffee, and food that hits the spot. Would definitely come back next time I'm in Idyllwild.
Such a cute little eatery in Idyllwild! I had breakfast out on the little deck and it was a beautiful day with lots of umbrellas for shade. It seems to be a fast casual concept where you order at the counter. They do bring the food out to you. The menus could've used a cleaning, they look like they had seen better days, and they were definitely smudges of food on them. I got the huevos rancheros and it was delicious! Tons of flavor and just the right amount of spice in the sauce. I asked for the breakfast potatoes extra crispy and they didn't seem extra crispy, but they did taste really good. I also loved the big chunks of veggies and there was a nice serving of avocado as well. My food came out really fast and was piping hot. My fiancé got the three egg breakfast. Simple and tasty! The eggs and bacon were cooked to perfection. Coffee was above average for a breakfast spot, but not as good as a coffee shop. Also, no Wi-Fi available and in a town that has poor Internet service that is a bummer.
I had the chile relleno omelette with home fries and it was amazing and a very large portion. The ranchero sauce was so good. My husband had the meat lovers breakfast which he shared with our dog. We sat outside and they put heaters on for us. It's a nice patio area. Service was fast too!
What a fantastic breakfast place! We got here at 10:00 am on a Saturday and there were lots of people but we got a table no problem. This is a restaurant where you order at the counter and they bring it out to you. When we got there, there were lots of people and we we were worried that we wouldn't get a table but it is large enough where tables are rapidly turning over and we got one right after we ordered. The food here is fantastic! I wanted to try one of my go-to's - chicken fried steak and eggs but my girlfriend pointed out that the California Breakfast Burrito ($20.99) is made with seasoned ribeye and comes highly recommended. It also has egg, home potatoes, bell peppers, onion, cheese, guacamole & sour cream - and it is one of the best and largest breakfast burritos I've ever had! So good!! I should also mention that the hot sauce they give with the burrito is a Chipotle hot sauce and is very tasty. This place also claims to be New Mexican which indicates that anything Chile Verde has to be really good and my girlfriend is a big fan of New Mexican cuisine so she got the Chile Verde Omelette ($19.99) which is pork Chile verde, cheddar cheese, sour cream & avocado and this too was fantastic and so tasty - an excellent choice! All-in-all this meal seemed a bit pricy, but then again all good here in Idyllwild is pricy. I would say the price is in the ballpark for other places here. I typically don't mind paying more for a meal but it needs to be outstanding - and this one was just that! Well-worth the price of the meal, this was a 5 star dining experience. read more

This is a great breakfast spot with a relaxed atmosphere and comfortable outdoor seating. The service was friendly, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. On our first visit, we ordered the biscuits and gravy with eggs and sausage, along with the pancake combo featuring three eggs, bacon, and three buttermilk pancakes. Everything was delicious, and we also tried a couple of their fresh juice blends, which were refreshing and full of flavor. We came back the next day and ordered the Mediterranean omelette and the chilaquiles rojo. The omelette was absolutely outstanding and easily one of the highlights of our visit. The chilaquiles, however, were just okay in our opinion and didn't quite stand out the way the rest of the meal did. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience here. The food, welcoming atmosphere, and hardworking staff made it a place we'd happily return to. Thanks again, and we'll be sure to stop by the next time we're in the area! read more

I had an ahi salad. Beautifully composed with seaweed salad, ginger, wonton wrappers and an excellent Asian dressing. We ate on the patio. I used a to go container for my dog to have water. No water offered for my fuzzy friend. Staff was friendly and efficient. read more

I loved the brunch! Servings are pretty big. Food and beverages are fresh. Wait time is just okay but if you are hungry, you may need to be extra patient. Bathroom wait line can be long as there is only one. Ambiance is perfect for a cozy, quaint, small town. Staff were all welcoming and friendly. I had a great time when we were here! read more

We visited Idyllwild for the first time Valentine's Day weekend and found ourselves at Mama's Egg House on Sunday morning. This is a very dog friendly city, and was happy to see other dogs on their patio. We were told by a worker there that we just pick a spot wherever we'd like to sit, and then order our food at the counter. They deliver it to your table once ready! Inside area is on the small side, not really any room for very big parties, I'd say 4 or less. Outside has much more room to work with. It was such a cute little restaurant... a mixture of new trendy meets traditional mom n' pop. This was around 9:30am and there were a pretty good amount of people there. Nearly the full inside was seated and outside maybe had 1/4 of their tables taken. We got lucky with a corner streetside table so our golden retriever could mingle with passerbyers. When I got to the cashier, I was greeted with a warm smile. I then ordered the birria chilaquilles and pancakes with sausage. We also got the horchata white Russian and michelada. It took maybe 5min for our drinks to come out, and 15min for food to come out. The Horchata white Russian was AMAZING. I dont know how to explain it other than a warm cozy feeling within an iced drink? Haha. Michelada was good. Our meals were both beautifully presented and tasted fresh. The birria was tender and the sausages were definitely homemade- they were outstanding. Definitely recommend trying this spot for breakfast on your trip! We are so happy we did. read more

Excellent breakfast spot! I ordered the 3-egg plate with bacon, toast, and fresh fruit, and it was perfect (believe it or not, I've seen other places mess this up). My fiancée had the huevos rancheros, and I stole a few bites--the sauce tasted homemade, with just the right amount of spice. The balance of flavor was ideal. Service was great--friendly staff and quick food delivery. The outdoor patio is serene and spacious, with lots of natural light and a relaxed vibe that makes it easy to enjoy your coffee and meal. We went around 9:45am on a Monday, and it wasn't crowded at all. The only downsides: the menus could definitely use a wipe-down, and there's no Wi-Fi, which is a little surprising for a mountain town that gets so much tourism. The food itself was very good, but the overall vibe leaned much more toward a fast-food joint than the sit-down restaurant I thought it would be. Maybe that's the concept, but nothing I read or heard beforehand gave that impression. Our food came out incredibly fast--so fast that we barely had a chance to take a sip of our coffee. In hindsight, I wish I had ordered the coffees first to actually enjoy them alongside the meal. We just expected something paced more like a restaurant experience rather than quick-service dining. That said, the chili verde burrito was flavorful, though not piping hot, and their signature hot sauce was fantastic--definitely a highlight. The staff was friendly and attentive, which I appreciated. The atmosphere was a bit mixed: one side of the restaurant felt like a fast-food setup, while the other side had a much cozier, restaurant-like feel. I loved the vegan huevos rancheros! The portion is great for $20 and very filling. I was shocked at all the vegan options and happy that they accommodate to everyone. The other dishes were great as well and most plates range from $20-30. At this restaurant, you review the menu and once ready you order at the register and pay. The service is friendly and I would definitely come back! read more
Our first time eating at this establishment. Tina had a big veggie omelette I had eggs Florentine Benedict Service was pleasant food was good except the potatoes were not hot. They fixed it right away The eggs were overcooked as the yolks were hard not like a poached egg would be Other than that it was worth the $47 we spent Tina had coffee too read more
Stopped for breakfast before on our way home. You look over a menu and order at the counter. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Our drink orders came out quick and soon after came our food. Excellent food, nice ambiance, super clean, obvious attention to detail. My chorizo breakfast burrito was delicious and, surprisingly, my macchiato was one of the best I've had in a long time. Not something I expected from a breakfast place. Not sure we'll be in Idlewild again anytime soon, but if we were, we would absolutely be coming back. The Steak Eggs Benedict is already whispering my name. read more
WOWOWOW. This is a must if you're in Idyllwild. The best Mexican brunch I've ever had, inside or outside of SoCal. I got the chilaquiles verdes and it was tear-inducing good after a morning hike. The tortillas here are fried hot and fresh. Perfect amount of crispy! The verde sauce is the perfect balance of spicy and tangy. My partner got the chile verde omelette which also looked fantastic. We topped it off with two coffees for the perfect breakfast. This will absolutely be our new staple when coming through Idyllwild! read more

Super friendly service with the ambiance of a diner. Food was amazing, especially the fries and onion rings. We got French toast, the kids' breakfast special, Philly cheese steak, and the bacon mushroom burger - all tasty BUT the fries and onion rings were delicious. Will come back again. read more

Place is dog friendly like the entire town. Just PLEASE make sure your dog is well behaved!! Not like the unruly dog next to us. Owners let it be too. So inconsiderate. Not a single employee said anything. Couldn't converse or eat in peace due to the barking. Theres no table service. Sit yourself and You have to order inside. I personally dont like that. Someone had to stay at the table because someone else might take it. Food was delicious. Made to order. Very shareable. Lil on the pricey side. If we were in Idyllwild again, i would definitely come again. Thank you for having the heaters on. It was COLD. read more

Disgusting do not do it. First off - We waited 40 minutes to order food because they are disorganized and have you order before sitting. The person who runs the register also gets the drinks. So she constantly left the counter for drinks. Not efficient in the slightest. They also have you use the patio door instead of the side door. This clogged it up where people are constantly running into you versus an efficient line from the side. There was plenty of seating. The line was clearly about inefficiency. They also don't even give you an order number or a buzzer or anything. They just walk around with your plates, yelling your name out like your cattle - everything about this is disrespectful to the customer. But the absolute worst was after waiting all that time to get the food - There was hair all over it! At first we ate our pancakes, nothing was wrong and then I saw a bunch of hair on my son's ham steak... The eggs were supposed to be over medium, but as you can see, they are over easy very - on the easy side, if they didn't cook them at all. We told the lady about the hair and she brought us another ham steak, but by then we were already done... And then we noticed there was hair inside the eggs after eating one. And it was not a human hair - It was dog hair. This is disgusting and they should be flagged from the health department. And no, we did not have a dog. We didn't even have a dog around us - So it came from the kitchen... just don't. read more

Chilaquiles were way too spicy and order was wrong. If you need anything like silverware, napkins or sugar you have to get it from the counter. The only time the waitress came was to pick up our plates because there were people waiting. You get on a waitlist then after you get a table you still need ti line up and order your food. Food was done pretty quickly though. read more

The country fried steak is flavorful especially the gravy. The potatoes were well seasoned. Nothing special about the waffles, the bacon was salty to my taste. The meat plate were okay. Fast service. Worth a try if youre visiting idlywild. read more

Mama's Egg House was happening!!! Prices were pretty standard (average $15-20) and the food portion was generous!! Lots of options on the menu. Came on a quiet Tuesday morning and got quick service. There were other people dining in too. The food was super yummy and fresh. Overall had a positive experience and would come back again! Cute, modern interior and easy parking. read more
My daughter and I drove up from Palm Springs for the day and stopped here for breakfast. Even though I usually plan ahead and had already chosen what I wanted for breakfast, but when I was ready to order, they had birria chilequiles on special. The patio is super cute and the service was speedy. Everyone was really nice. The food was solid and filling! read more

Most of the reviews show plastic / styrofoam (haven't seen in CA since the 90s...). If you eat there do they serve on plates? I thought Idyllwild would be eco friendly but there's so much plastic packaging at the restaurants!
