My husband and I have been bringing our dogs to Idyllwild every year for the past six years, and Idyllwild Brewpub has always been one of our favorite stops. We've dined here many times with our dogs and have always considered it a very dog-friendly establishment--until today. Today (Table 305 I think, approximately 4:20-4:50 p.m.), we were seated with our dogs next to a family with children. At one point, one of the children ran directly across our smaller dog's path, startling him. He barked. He did not growl, lunge, nip, or bite--he simply barked. Immediately afterward, an employee (short, glasses, rides a scooter) approached our table and told us, "That can't happen again." Confused, since there were multiple dogs around the patio barking throughout our meal, we asked what the specific issue was. His only response was, "It can't happen again." I explained that our dog has never bitten, nipped, or growled at anyone, but yes--he does bark occasionally, because he's a dog. A few minutes later, another dog walked past our table. Our dog barked at the passing dog, and the same employee immediately returned and told us, "Your dog has to go." I asked, "He did nothing but bark. What exactly is the problem?" He simply repeated that our dog had to leave. I then said that he seemed to be particularly sensitive to our dog. Surprisingly, he agreed. At that point, my husband, understandably frustrated, said, "Just bring us boxes and our check. We'll leave." The employee responded, "I'm not telling you guys you have to go, but the dog does." My husband asked, "Where exactly are our dogs supposed to go?" The employee replied, "Do you have a car?" My husband responded, "What? Do you expect our dogs to drive themselves back?" I stepped in at that point because our food hadn't even fully arrived yet. I asked the employee if he could please check on the rest of our order so we could leave. A different employee brought the remaining food out a minute later. We weren't even halfway through our meal. We still had two brand-new drinks sitting on the table that we never got to finish. I told my husband to take the dogs outside while I boxed up the food and paid the bill. As I was packing everything up, two separate couples seated behind us--one with a dog and one without--tapped me on the shoulder. One said, "For what it's worth, we heard your dog barking, and it sounded no different than the other dogs out here." The other added, "And did you hear his comment about putting your dog in the car?" If either of you happen to read this review: thank you. It meant a lot to know we weren't the only ones who felt the situation was handled poorly. To the management of Idyllwild Brewpub: I completely understand that, as a dog-friendly establishment, there have to be standards of behavior for dogs. If a dog is aggressive, threatening, biting, lunging, or creating an unsafe environment, absolutely address it. But that was not what happened here. Our dog barked--twice. Once because he was startled by a child running directly in front of him, and once at another passing dog. Both are normal dog behaviors that were no different from what we observed from other dogs on the patio. Being told to remove our dog while we were in the middle of our meal, then being asked if we could leave him in the car, felt unreasonable and frankly inconsistent with the dog-friendly environment we've enjoyed here for years. We've always loved coming to Idyllwild Brewpub, which is why this experience was so disappointing. I sincerely hope management reviews how situations like this are handled in the future, because one employee's approach turned what has always been one of our favorite places in Idyllwild into a very unpleasant experience. Edit: after reading the other 1 star reviews, I am beginning to wonder whether we were being singled out because we were the only Asians there yesterday evening. We came here before going camping & for an early lunch and got here right when they opened, we had our dog that gets a bit antsy so they accommodated us on the patio and appreciated that. Our Dog did great! I saw they provided water bowls for them and they do have a doggie meal for them that's $7 and it's just chicken, veggies and rice or hamburger patty with no salt. My Dog eats anything cause he loves food but I was a bit thrown back on how it was served.. (it just looked like Mush & it was cold and more rice than anything) I only gave him the small pieces of chicken and the few carrots that were in there. The paper container was a bit hard for him to eat off but we made it work. I get it it's a doggy treat but it would have been a bit better if it was served on something more sturdy. Their service was Excellent. As we arrived they were quick and took our order for our drinks and flights of beer. We ordered and our food came out within 10 min and it was delicious, presentation was great, was warm and everything was well balanced and just delicious. I got their smash burger with fries and loved the fries and they had a satisfying crunch to them. We also tried their pretzel with Dipping sauce the Dijon mustard was a bit much but the cheese was fantastic. The atmosphere was great, they have indoor and outdoor seating and the inside is pretty rad as well. Their bathrooms were clean and tidy. Their merch was pretty sweet. They had quite a variety of things you can purchase along with their beer and other options they had in the fridge. Would we come back Absolutely! The Brewpub never disappoints! I've been coming here for years, and every visit is consistently excellent. The atmosphere is unlike anywhere else. The views of the trees are absolutely beautiful, and on quiet days you can even hear the gentle stream of Strawberry Creek flowing nearby. I love sitting on the outdoor deck, especially when it's raining or snowing--it makes the experience even more special. The food is always delicious. My favorite is the Campfire Burger, topped with barbecue sauce and crispy onion rings. Their fish and chips are also outstanding, and the appetizers are always a great choice. The drinks are consistently fantastic, too. I love Idyllwild, but not necessarily for the restaurants. However,'on this visit we checked out the Brewpub. It's our new favorite in the area. There's nothing particularly flashy about the selections, but what they serve, they serve well. The fish, burgers and chicken were all very good. Well presented and reasonably priced for the area. The restaurant itself has nice views with a wraparound patio that gives most tables a taste of the scenery. Heaters keep the area comfortable and the waiting area features two fire pits. Easily the busiest restaurant we've dined at in the area but the staff are efficient and wait times are reasonable. read more

Came to this spot for dinner while visiting Idyllwild. Super cute spot! The outdoor seating has a ton of tables and heaters. The indoor doesn't have too many tables but there's a bar you can sit at. They have a cute fireplace as well on a lower level outside. I got to try their crispy sprouts which was delicious, but not crispy. I liked the flavor and the tomato balanced well. I'm not too big on burgers, but I tried the angry mule burger and wow! I was not disappointed. That might've been the best burger I've had. There's a jalepeno jam on the burger that really brought the flavor together. They were generous with the guacamole as well. Their beers were refreshing and good. I got the IPA. Fried Cauliflower: interesting take on it, they do the Buffalo sauce underneath the breading then it's served in a little metal basket with a side of aioli. 5/5 Mountaineer steak: really delicious, huge portion. The bone marrow butter really did taste like bone marrow! It comes with the side and you can get the chili as your side. 5/5 Green lentil soup: This was just OK. It tasted exactly like it looked, healthy. 3/5 Drinks were also great. I had the strawberry smash. It was excellent. It's served on ice and with real smashed strawberries inside. I also had the Elderflower drink which is served up. Both were great and we definitely order each of them again, and they were quite strong for only $15! Vibe is excellent, they have a lot counter seating, where you look out on the Forest (but also the parking lot below a bit). There's some TVs with spots going and they allowed dogs on the patio. The patio is nicely shaded and has a beautiful breeze, and also all different kinds of groups of people. They were groups of 20 Some things, groups of older folks, families with babies, one guy who's there, just with his dog. Service was so kind considering our group included a slightly fussy baby. This brew pub was a literal 5 min. walk down a small path along strawberry Creek from the cabin I was staying in for the weekend in Idyllwild. Really nice facility for a local brewery, with excellent patio seating and a good selection of food as well. Pretty friendly staff, but commonly a very busy place so on the weekends be prepared for that. My brussels sprouts were excellent with the chimichurri sauce and the two beers I tried were delicious. Definitely looking forward to coming back and trying a full pint of that lavender moon cream ale I had a sample of! Definitely recommend if you're in the area!! read more

What a beautiful ride on the bike it was to get here. It's high in the mountains, surrounded by beautiful forests. The property is grand and spacious. What a cute restaurant in such a charming town. We visited New Year's Eve Day - were told there was a 20-30 min wait but actually waited over an hour. Totally understandable given it was a rainy holiday where people were happy to take shelter indoors...but nonetheless hard to wait with 5 kids ranging 4 months - 8 years old. They were out of quite a few things people wanted to order but I think that's to be expected on a busy weekend during the holidays...especially being a mountain town. Extra points for vegan options - the lentil soup was delicious. Adults enjoyed the fried cauliflower appetizer while the kids had some fries, haha. The kids menu was great, everyone had chicken strips. Love that we were able to wait by the fire for our table and if no kids it would be a lovely place to hang out and enjoy a beverage while waiting. Parking was easy (you could park up top by the market and pharmacy) or down below. If we're back in town, we'll definitely be back. read more

I like Belgians and the saison was a little thin, but served in a nice size glass so that trade was fair. I snuck a sip of my buddy's stout and thought the exact same thing. drinkable...YES but at $10 each we chose to move on The Place is immaculately clean including the restrooms, and the fixtures and furniture was in perfect condition, an I will give credit for that to the manager we meet up with on our way out. If you take the magic stairway down below from the upper parking lot, you get Idyllwild Brewpub, tucked away from sight. Follow the signs from the town all the way to the entrance. We had a group of 9 (including 3 kids), was told it would be about a 30 min wait during a busy lunchtime weekend, and it only took about 15. While we waited we enjoyed some drinks on the balcony underneath the umbrellas. It was truly a beautiful overlook to the trees and mountain tops of Idyllwild. Old Fashioned was very tasty and smooth. Service was superb really from the staff... really attentive, patient, and nice. Food was decent American bar fair. Burgers, wings, etc. All of it was fresh and tasty. Wings were definitely the pleasent suprise as being super crispy and fresh. The fish was good, however I probably would prefer it NOT in sandwich form. Pricing is commensurate with the town. This isn't 1950 where everything is cheap... this is a modern day establishment in a quaint mountain town... it's a little bit on the high end. I love their brewery choices, and when you pair that with some decent food, you stumble upon a place that you have to visit when you're either camping close by, or taking a day cruise. read more

Went here on a recommendation but we were disappointed. We sat outside on the covered patio, the music was incredibly loud rock and metal. It had obviously been a busy day so our server was short and not super friendly until we were paying the bill, she saw our cash tip and then she was all smiles. It was a long wait but it was it's a really cool place. They have very few indoor tables available and it was chilly out but they turned on the heaters about half way through the meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they gave us a free birthday cheesecake for my friend. We all got mocktails and sandwiches and they were all really good. All the sandwiches were very messy (especially the pulled pork) but in a good way because that meant they were not skimping on the sauces! The lentil soup wasn't very good though. I came here this past weekend as we decided to go on a road trip to Idyllwild for the day. We arrived hungry, so this was our first stop. It was a really beautiful sunny day, there were a lot of people so the restaurant was busy. The wait was about 20 minutes or so, the wait area is nice, it's outdoors and there are benches and tables so you can go inside and order a beer and sip while waiting. Dogs are allowed and the majority of people here and in Idyllwild in general had dogs. The majority of the restaurant is outside on their large patio. They have shades that can be pulled down when it's too sunny. The view is nice, there are trees to look at in the distance. The food was really good and they even had Vegan options. They had fried tofu available to add to salads. I got an avocado salad with fried tofu and it was delicious! They also had impossible patties on the menu but we're out of them. I had a non alcoholic Mexican lager and it was good. Their beer selection for alcoholic beers looked good. They also had mocktails! Service was good, everyone was nice. Parking is free and there is a lot of parking. It's also just down the street from their downtown area. Behind the pub is a nice trail along a stream, it's nice to do after eating. read more
