I love Idyllwild, but not necessarily for the restaurants. However,'on this visit we checked out the Brewpub. It's our new favorite in the area. There's nothing particularly flashy about the selections, but what they serve, they serve well. The fish, burgers and chicken were all very good. Well presented and reasonably priced for the area. The restaurant itself has nice views with a wraparound patio that gives most tables a taste of the scenery. Heaters keep the area comfortable and the waiting area features two fire pits. Easily the busiest restaurant we've dined at in the area but the staff are efficient and wait times are reasonable. read more

Came to this spot for dinner while visiting Idyllwild. Super cute spot! The outdoor seating has a ton of tables and heaters. The indoor doesn't have too many tables but there's a bar you can sit at. They have a cute fireplace as well on a lower level outside. I got to try their crispy sprouts which was delicious, but not crispy. I liked the flavor and the tomato balanced well. I'm not too big on burgers, but I tried the angry mule burger and wow! I was not disappointed. That might've been the best burger I've had. Fried Cauliflower: interesting take on it, they do the Buffalo sauce underneath the breading then it's served in a little metal basket with a side of aioli. 5/5 Mountaineer steak: really delicious, huge portion. The bone marrow butter really did taste like bone marrow! It comes with the side and you can get the chili as your side. 5/5 Green lentil soup: This was just OK. It tasted exactly like it looked, healthy. 3/5 Drinks were also great. I had the strawberry smash. It was excellent. It's served on ice and with real smashed strawberries inside. Vibe is excellent, they have a lot counter seating, where you look out on the Forest (but also the parking lot below a bit). There's some TVs with spots going and they allowed dogs on the patio. The patio is nicely shaded and has a beautiful breeze, and also all different kinds of groups of people. They were groups of 20 Some things, groups of older folks, families with babies, one guy who's there, just with his dog. Service was so kind considering our group included a slightly fussy baby. This was our first time taking are fur babies out to a restaurant and we couldn't be more proud of our girls they did amazing there were so many dogs we were a little nervous but they keep tables at a good distance so you're dogs aren't to close. What a cute restaurant in such a charming town. We visited New Year's Eve Day - were told there was a 20-30 min wait but actually waited over an hour. Totally understandable given it was a rainy holiday where people were happy to take shelter indoors...but nonetheless hard to wait with 5 kids ranging 4 months - 8 years old. They were out of quite a few things people wanted to order but I think that's to be expected on a busy weekend during the holidays...especially being a mountain town. Extra points for vegan options - the lentil soup was delicious. Adults enjoyed the fried cauliflower appetizer while the kids had some fries, haha. The kids menu was great, everyone had chicken strips. Love that we were able to wait by the fire for our table and if no kids it would be a lovely place to hang out and enjoy a beverage while waiting. Parking was easy (you could park up top by the market and pharmacy) or down below. If we're back in town, we'll definitely be back. read more

First and foremost the place is stunning! after climbing a lot of stairs you notice you are now amongst the trees and what a nice view that was. Just in for a beer we were directed to the bar, 2 beers were 20 bucks, that I found a tad on the high side but they were both pretty good but only a little diluted in flavor. I like Belgians and the saison was a little thin, but served in a nice size glass so that trade was fair. I snuck a sip of my buddy's stout and thought the exact same thing. drinkable...YES but at $10 each we chose to move on The Place is immaculately clean including the restrooms, and the fixtures and furniture was in perfect condition, an I will give credit for that to the manager we meet up with on our way out. If you take the magic stairway down below from the upper parking lot, you get Idyllwild Brewpub, tucked away from sight. Follow the signs from the town all the way to the entrance. We had a group of 9 (including 3 kids), was told it would be about a 30 min wait during a busy lunchtime weekend, and it only took about 15. While we waited we enjoyed some drinks on the balcony underneath the umbrellas. It was truly a beautiful overlook to the trees and mountain tops of Idyllwild. Old Fashioned was very tasty and smooth. Service was superb really from the staff... really attentive, patient, and nice. Food was decent American bar fair. Burgers, wings, etc. All of it was fresh and tasty. Wings were definitely the pleasent suprise as being super crispy and fresh. The fish was good, however I probably would prefer it NOT in sandwich form. Pricing is commensurate with the town. This isn't 1950 where everything is cheap... this is a modern day establishment in a quaint mountain town... it's a little bit on the high end. I love their brewery choices, and when you pair that with some decent food, you stumble upon a place that you have to visit when you're either camping close by, or taking a day cruise. read more

It was a long wait but it was it's a really cool place. They have very few indoor tables available and it was chilly out but they turned on the heaters about half way through the meal. The staff were very friendly and helpful and they gave us a free birthday cheesecake for my friend. We all got mocktails and sandwiches and they were all really good. All the sandwiches were very messy (especially the pulled pork) but in a good way because that meant they were not skimping on the sauces! The lentil soup wasn't very good though. I came here this past weekend as we decided to go on a road trip to Idyllwild for the day. We arrived hungry, so this was our first stop. It was a really beautiful sunny day, there were a lot of people so the restaurant was busy. The wait was about 20 minutes or so, the wait area is nice, it's outdoors and there are benches and tables so you can go inside and order a beer and sip while waiting. Dogs are allowed and the majority of people here and in Idyllwild in general had dogs. The majority of the restaurant is outside on their large patio. They have shades that can be pulled down when it's too sunny. The view is nice, there are trees to look at in the distance. The food was really good and they even had Vegan options. They had fried tofu available to add to salads. I got an avocado salad with fried tofu and it was delicious! They also had impossible patties on the menu but we're out of them. I had a non alcoholic Mexican lager and it was good. Their beer selection for alcoholic beers looked good. They also had mocktails! Service was good, everyone was nice. Parking is free and there is a lot of parking. It's also just down the street from their downtown area. Behind the pub is a nice trail along a stream, it's nice to do after eating. read more

We stopped by Idyllwild Brew Pub and were seriously impressed! We ordered the Angry Mule burger with fries and the pesto chicken sandwich, plus a side of chili. The Angry Mule burger was very good. The sweet jalapeño jam paired perfectly with the smash burger and added just the right balance of heat and sweetness. The pesto chicken sandwich was also solid, and you could really tell the pesto was high quality and made with care. The chili was amazing and tasted fresh, comforting, and well seasoned. But the real winner here was the fries and ranch! The fries were extremely crunchy without being dry at all. Honestly some of the best fries we've had. And the ranch was thick, creamy, and full of flavor. Absolutely an elite fry and ranch combo. I actually added some ranch to my pesto sandwich and it was AMAZING! We will definitely be back. Idyllwild Brewpub has been a regular spot for us. While the space remains beautiful, uber dog friendly, and with top notch service, the menu offerings and food quality has gone downhill. The menu is much more burger focused, which is sad. Our old favorites -- sticky wings, brisket nachos, salmon, bratwurst, and steak frites have all disappeared. I think they even had seared ahi and shrimp items too. The burger iterations were called "smash burgers" but they were just bland 1/4 lb patties. There was zero Maillard reaction crispy-deliciousness as you'd expect. I had the "special burger" and it was kind of a flop, but I appreciate the effort. The pretzel was still as good as ever (and two for $15 was a deal) and the fries were great. My wife was super bummed to see that her "Stone Creek Sando" was a fried fish sandwich -- basically a 1/2 order of fish n chips on bread. We double checked the menu and it neglected to mention the "fried" part. Wish they offered grilled and fried versions. I still have hope that the Brewpub can revamp and expand its menu, learn how to smash a burger, and return to its old glory. We've had so many great memories and meals here, I'd hate to cut this out of our dining rotation! read more

They came out from Anaheim today to enjoy some of the trails and grab a bite to eat afterwards. My friend has been to this place before, but this was my first time and let me tell you I was not let down. The atmosphere is friendly, with the vibe is fast pace, and the food is absolutely delicious. Everytime we are in town we come with our group here and yesterday was supposed to be no exception. Had called in to see why the wait time was four our group 12 and someone on the phone said about 30 minutes which would be okay since my son is on the autism spectrum and we work around his needs. Decided to head over and upon arrival was told it would be at least an hour and a half. Asked the guy why the change if I had called about ten minutes earlier and his response was "we get busy." Gave him our information, went back to the group and came up with some stuff to do in the meantime. The part that was an issue was that we never actually got a call to come back in for our table or any type of notification as to why we were not ever provided seating.
