This place is pretty good, their drinks and food are pretty good. My personal go to is the lavender latte. The hot or iced lavender latte is so good and it's apparently the fan favorite there. Pre-covid, the atmosphere was super cute and welcoming. My last experience was a bit disappointing as the iced lavender latte had a weird flavor to it. So that's the only reason why this place didn't receive 5 stars on my part though it probably does deserve it. Now, it's a take out only with outdoor seating. Don't think this place needs anymore amazing revirws but here is one anyway. Staff is amazing, bathrooms and sitting spaces are ALWAYS cleaned, sugar/cream stand is always fully stocked and tidy. I have never had an issue with my drinks even during a very busy Parade of the Lights when they are PACKED out and around the corner lol. I absolutely love Black Oak and am so grateful to have them here in inland Mendocino county. Somewhere I can always come and count on great coffee, delicious baked goods and breakfast items, as well as friendly service and reliable wifi. My personal favorites are their mushroom and spinach breakfast sandwich on an english muffin and their sweet scones, especially the raspberry. I think that they have been tweaking their recipes and truly, this scone is one of the best I've ever had. If you're looking for a real treat try their lavender latte or the 'lover's lane' latte using local honey topped with a bit of bee pollen- I love them iced. I have always loved the atmosphere here- a place where people come to gather or to get work done.. Looking forward to their interior space opening up again once it is safe to do so, but for now I have been grateful for all they've done to keep their cafe open to guests outside- they have propane heating lamps and have added some additional tables with pop ups over them for rain and shade. My sisters and I came to sit outside with our dog who was on a leash. We asked for a cup for water for the dog and we were rudely treated. The MGR states dogs aren't allowed. There is no sign regarding dogs outside. Not only did the manager responded rudely, she and the barista continued to roll their eyes. Rude rude rude! read more

Nothing worse than walking in to a coffee shop and having the barista and then the manager respond to you rudely when we asked for something to put water in for our dog as we were sitting outside. There is no signage saying no dogs outside. Only one sign at the main door saying 'no dogs allowed'. Pretty vague when there is outside seating. I would never have expected to find great coffee in my food wasteland of a home town, but here it is. They roast their own coffee, and they do a wonderful job of it. I feel like too many places follow Starbucks' example of overcooking their coffee because it's all going into frappucinos that are essentially milkshakes and therefore need stronger coffee. How have I not reviewed Black Oak Coffee? Perhaps it's because I've only been to the shop itself once or twice. It's a cozy little spot in Ukiah that's well worth a visit if you're traveling by on 101. But while the cafe is comfortable and the staff are friendly (and eternally patient with my emailed special requests), what makes Black Oak so special is the world class coffee. I've sent hundreds of dollars with Black Oak over the past few years and the coffees I've received in return have been delicious (or at least interesting if they don't align perfectly with my tastes) and expertly roasted. I order almost exclusively from their single origins, which are lighter roasts, but Black Oak offers a variety of blends and roast levels. Even medium roast is typically too dark for me but I've had several medium roasts from Black Oak and they're flavorful and smoky without having that astringent char you get from other roasters. I'm tempted to try Black Bart, their dark roast, but I'm always swayed by the delicious single origins (in particular the natural-processed Ethiopians) every time I'm filling my cart. Best coffee in California? Easily. Possibly the best coffee in the country. read more

The overall vibe of the coffee shop is very chill and relaxed. The drinks are all very good! Since going Vegan, I was unsure of what drinks I could still enjoy (with a Non-Dairy milk). I contacted them to ask what drinks can be made Vegan with the substitution of a Non-Dairy option and/or no whip cream. All of their Syrups are Vegan such as: -Vanilla -Caramel -Hazelnut -Etc. Drinks that are Vegan if you order with NON-DAIRY option: Soy, coconut, or almond milk. -Lavender Latte -Spiced Brown Sugar -Lover's Lane Latte (depending on your stance on Honey and Bee Pollen, this does contain each) -Borgia, Mocha, and Mayan Mocha: (the base is ground chocolate that MAY HAVE been on the same equipment as products that do contain milk. But the chocolate used for these drinks itself does not contain milk as an ingredient!) The Dulce De Latte is NOT VEGAN. It is made using caramelized condensed milk.
