I love their coffee. They have interesting and dynamic roasts, clearly carefully sourced. Their espresso drinks are always solid, and the seasonal specials can be amazing. Their food is probably 4 stars, there is the occasional miss (why did the breakfast sandwich get put on an English Muffin?). They've got a ton of seating, it always feels active, but never crowded. The staff are super kind and helpful, and I've never regretted a recommendation - they've let me taste the coffee from the beans I'm purchasing, which is wonderful and helps me to improve my own brews at home. I drank it black, which I rarely do but it was just that good. ​This week I had a dark roast drip coffee which was terrible, tasted soapy and left a film on my lips. Review for the Healdsburg location: This has become my absolute favorite coffee shop. The coffee is just so good across the board. I've tried several of their lattes. We drive up from Santa Rosa just to get them. They make a variety of specialty flavors and syrups from scratch and they are simply delicious. I'm usually disappointed by coffee flavors like "pumpkin spice" or "apple crisp" at other places. However, at this place they taste the way you always dreamed they would, like the real thing, and not overly sweet or tasting of chemicals. And even just the plain espresso or cold brew is better. They have a fun array of options from nitro to simple espresso shots that come with a handcrafted chocolate. Just excellent quality and a great menu. The food items are also really yummy. The tartines, the oat and chia bowls, the burritos, I wish there were a vegan breakfast burrito! The staff is exceptional as well. I accidentally ordered something with half and half in it even though I can't have that, and they made me a new drink even though it was my fault. There is usually music in the square right near the coffee shop so I highly recommend getting a nice latte here and then drinking it in the nearby park. read more

Very rarely do I rate coffee spots. But this was worth it. The coffee was delicious and the space was very open and productive. I ordered the lavender latte 8oz and I loved it. It was extremely well balanced and nothing that would remind me of lavender potpourri. The sweetness was perfect. If you're looking for a sugary drink this is NOT it. I saw a dark chocolate mocha on the menu that used ground chocolate and not syrup. I had to order it on principal since it is so rare. I choose to order a 4oz so I could try it. AMAZING! Black Oak is my after yoga treat. Their coffee and pastries are pricing but delicious. They also have creative and unique drinks. Last time I was their they had two foraged mushroom drinks. A black trumpet latte and a maitake mocha. I've never seen anything like that before and the black trumpet late was delicious. The space is cozy and good for meeting friends, working or just hanging out solo. Minus one star because it takes a long time for them to make drinks. I'm new to the area and people recommended this coffee shop to me. I like their coffee a lot. There're a lot of space to sit and outlet if you want to do work while enjoy your coffee. I also like that they have music in the background but not too loud that would distract you and your conversation. This coffee shop is very clean and the staffs are very friendly. They also have some pastry and salads for you to buy. However, i would like it better if they also have small hot meals to order too. Also, the salads are kinda expensive imo. My favorite lattes are lavender latte and lover lane. These two are sweet but not too sweet. I usually order my latte half sweet but I don't have to do it at black oak because they have a perfect level of sweet! I love this place and would recommend people to check it out. read more

Funky, wrongly organized, loud, cheesy logo, uncomfortable chairs..just perfect. I had a ham and cheese croissant and got a few things to go. It was ok. I also had a yogurt thing with raspberries which was pretty good. I have a jar of local berry honey in my car and should grab it 'cuz it would make this a wow, but I would make a mess. But the wow and why it gets a fiver is the coffee. I had a moka-java pour over. It's the best I've had in years. I'm going to dump the dregs into a cup ice ice and take it with me as I drive for an hour. It's also just a few minutes off the freeway. read more

Love this place for its coffee and treats! The jam biscuit is a great standard, but they always tempt me with something new...like the ginger cookie (gluten free too). And yes, healthier/heartier options like breakfast burritos, sandwiches, or a salad. I go for my decaf latte fix, but their special flavors - regulars or seasonal - can hit the spot sometimes.... The overall vibe of the coffee shop is very chill and relaxed. The drinks are all very good! Since going Vegan, I was unsure of what drinks I could still enjoy (with a Non-Dairy milk). I contacted them to ask what drinks can be made Vegan with the substitution of a Non-Dairy option and/or no whip cream. All of their Syrups are Vegan such as: -Vanilla -Caramel -Hazelnut -Etc. Drinks that are Vegan if you order with NON-DAIRY option: Soy, coconut, or almond milk. -Lavender Latte -Spiced Brown Sugar -Lover's Lane Latte (depending on your stance on Honey and Bee Pollen, this does contain each) -Borgia, Mocha, and Mayan Mocha: (the base is ground chocolate that MAY HAVE been on the same equipment as products that do contain milk. My go-to coffee shop. I discovered Black Oak last year on a visit to Healdsburg, and have been buying their coffees ever since. Have easily sampled 6-8 different blends and loved them all. Even though the city of Ukiah seems to want to put the downtown businesses out of business, Black Oak Coffee on State Street remains busy even during the road destruction. And that would be because the coffee is that good. The service is exemplary. People come there regularly to meet because it is such a comfortable setting. Even those not within walking distance will park and walk back to get to Black Oak. Hot or cold, the coffee is always delicious. Baked goods are also wonderful. If you've ever had their yogurt parfaits you know that they are very, very good as well. It's a great shop for our little town. And when I don't get to stop there on my way to work, the day's never as good as it should be. read more

Good service.. great coffee.. love the outdoor space. My one suggestion would be that rather than gluten-free cookies you keep a loaf of gluten-free bread in the freezer and sell a side of gf toast. I would much rather come here again than visit one of the two Starbucks locations in town. Everything about this place works for me. The atmosphere of this spot, the friendly customer service and the quality of the drinks. I went last week when I met up with a friend and I went with the peanut butter mocha drink. It really did have a good peanut butter flavor to it as well as still tasting like a coffee drink too. Black Oak Coffee is the place to go to in Ukiah when you are wanting to meet up with somebody and grab a coffee. I will definitely be back the next time I visit my hometown. read more
