I had dinner with my family (including three small kids) at The Black Pig on a Saturday night. I was surprised to find it was not very busy. The food was for the most part very good, and the service, while not unfriendly, was not attentive. The spinach salad was the biggest disappointment, because the description on the menu sounded so enticing while the salad itself was so flat. The vinaigrette was bland, and the promised walnuts were nowhere to be found in the salad. What the salad seemed to be lacking most was flavor. Maybe add salt? On the other hand, the rest of the food was excellent. The corn chowder is fantastic! We very much enjoyed the poutine, "BACON!", and Berkshire pork belly. Our kids loved their burgers and macaroni and cheese. Our server was friendly but given the low number of other customers, we were surprised at how long it took for her to take our order, and then to bring our food out. We could also have used more frequent refills of water. I would definitely return for the excellent food and will hope they hire more wait staff before my next visit. read more

My family and I stopped here on a whim on our way from Rhinelander to Milwaukee. All I can say is, awesome! The Golden Bear Big Butt Pork Sandwich was fantastic. (A delicious mouthful to say, ha!) Had an awesome conversation with the Manager about the Name, its origin, the contest etc. - very interesting. We couldn't join for dinner but we had the fries with duck fat and cherry ketchup as an appetizer with drinks. Presentation and taste were excellent! This is a fantastic restaurant. Casual but sophisticated. We enjoyed the Quinoa Salad, cajun Corn Chowder (just ok), flat iron steak and scallops with risotto special, two old fashions and two cosmopolitans. Interesting bar menu. Michael our server was friendly, attentive and knowledgeable. Interesting building. We enjoyed Thursday Night Football and the Dodger game on the bar TVs, while in town for a Packer game. Went at 11 am on Fathers Day and did not have to wait for a table. The kids food was very reasonably priced and more than my children could ever finish. It also included a beverage. The waiter was very good and offered tips for reheated left over Mac n cheese. I ordered the portobello mushroom on the small plate menu and it was perfect. Very flavorful and the perfect portion for someone who doesn't normally finish a whole entree. My husbands Bloody Mary was very good with outstanding fixings including cheese curd & bacon. read more

Stopped in Sheboygan on our way home from Green Bay and The Black Pig did not disappoint. Service, food and drinks were outstanding! I ordered the rajun cajun eggs benedict and it was delicious! The potatoes were cooked to perfection and mixed with the egg and sauce it was hard not to clear my plate. My husband ordered the pulled pork sandwich with a side of poutine and he said both were great! The lemonade (which we always drink) was really tasty as well as the hot chocolate I had to finish before we left. Atmosphere and look of the place were great and locals were very polite offering more stop recommendations on our route home. Definitely somewhere we hope to visit again! Another Disappointing Experience At The Black Pig In Sheboygan. We enter the bar to a fussing baby, but the guy holding the baby looks like he works here? This baby cries for half our stay. Guess I missed the sign about this being a daycare facility. So I order an Old Fashioned to help drown out the nuisance, wrongly assuming an $11 Old Fashioned thus priced would be served in a double or tall glass instead of the standard lowball glass. (That's even high for NYC prices, where you'll get an Old Fashioned for $6-$8. And this from a bar that features Old Fashioneds as a speciality.) What a joke. I'd need at least three of these to be okay with a fussing baby in residence. The server was average, but attitude was poor. Maybe just a bad night. What do you expect with a fussing baby in house? They Don't Make Up For It With The Food. I've eaten here before--once by choice and after that by social grace--but had forgotten how poor it was. Thought I'd be safe with a burger and fries--this place has a meat theme. The fries were cold. The burger wasn't much warmer. Was that even beef? It wasn't obvious. I would have sent it back if I hadn't been dining with a group. At least the conversation was good. This place could be nice if they served decent food, even if they did gouge you on the drinks. If you're serious about good food in Sheboygan, this place isn't for you. I mean this sincerely. There is great food in Sheboygan. Get actual food and drinks elsewhere. read more

Very disappointing! Not good service. My boyfriend and I went on a Saturday night. I dressed nice expecting a classy experience. We were seated upstairs at a bar height table which was very uncomfortable. The table was not even big enough for the menus much less the food that was served. Also, I watched from by birds eye view my drink be made at the bar and sit waiting to be served for over ten minutes while the waitress was pre-occupied. The food was not seasoned as it should have been. We ordered mussels as our appetizer and the sauce had no flavor, the bread was soggy, and the mussels themselves were overcooked. I ordered the roasted corn and spaghetti squash risotto to take a lighter route for my entree. I could literally mop up the grease on my dish with the extra dry bread we were served. I will be throwing away the leftovers I took home. My boyfriend ordered the special which was fried pork cheek with sweet potatoes and asparagus. The pork was also not seasoned and the sweet potatoes and asparagus were not cooked appropriately (half tough and half soggy). Just because bacon is the main focus doesn't mean that everything should be that low quality. read more

This is an exceptional restaurant top to bottom. Excellent quality of food, educated servers and bartenders, fast friendly service. Very pleased with my 2 experiences over 2 days, 1 lunch and 1 dinner. Best entree I had was the lamb sausage sandwich. The only thing I have to bring up that I did not like was that I brought in a group of 20 for dinner and had one bottle of wine. This literally was to give everyone a sip. Even though we spent quite a bit on food and other drinks, they still charged a $25 corkage fee. It seemed an excessive and arbitrary amount that was not based on a set policy but rather the whim of the bartender on staff at the time. Now again, I have to stress the service was really good overall, I just thought this was in poor taste considering the size of the party we brought to the restaurant and the money we spent with them. I'm still giving them 5 stars but hope they use this as constructive criticism and use it to think more about their customers in the future. read more

Rob Hurry is the rock-star chef and co-owner of Black pig with his wife Katy. My family and I happily found this place during a weekend visit to Sheboygan from Chicago. We had a mix of foods which included the chilli, the beef bourgogne and the most amazing mac and cheese I've ever tasted. The place itself is warm and cozy for a cold-night and very kid friendly. Hit this place tonight (found on Yelp). Excellent menu of pork & beef sandwiches; dinner entrees; salads; etc. went w/ the (pulled) pork sandwich w/ white truffle oil fries. I ate every bit of the fries ( I usually leave 1/2), but these were sooooo awesomely tasty! I will try to come back and try one of the Mac n Cheese offerings. Best burger is town. They also have great nightly specials and are always able to answer questions on food allergies.

The atmosphere was pretty cool however I'm more about how the food tastes and the food was not my taste. I ordered the mushroom and broccoli Mac & cheese; it was too salty and the broccoli didn't taste right. I had the Ultimate Vegetarian burger and it was amazing. I've had HUNDREDS of veggie burgers and made many different versions of a veggie burger myself - and this one beats them all by a long shot. I went there summer of 2021 with my friend, and the food was good even though a little bit on the pricey side. And we decided to go back last weekend on my girls trip. And it was quite a different experience! It's very nice inside however the food took forever to get we where quite hungry. I ordered what my dear friend had last time cause she remembered how wonderful it was. And I thought can't wait to try it!!! But to my amazement my salad looked like weeds you would not want in your garden with some awful dressing on top of it. I can't even explain the taste it was quite strange. There where just a tiny bits of something not sure if veggies??? Also I wanted some meat thought that would be great too since my beloved friend said how good the pork bellies where. And well what meat it was hardly cooked or I think it was supposed to be fried. In any event it was pure FAT CUBES that almost made be sick and did in a way. The bread was as hard as a rock too. I finally flagged my waitress down and told her this's a nasty salad can't eat it just get me a hamburger. Meanwhile I sat there hungry waiting for that burger that I wanted cooked Well Done and was not had pink in it. My friends felt really bad for me of course, one of them as well didn't care for her special of the day, but she can do her own review!!! We went here because we were looking for Margaux, which used to be in this location, and were pleasantly surprised. The restaurant was full and noisy, but not in a bad way. We didn't have a reservation, but we were seated in less than 30 minutes. Service was attentive but not obnoxious. The spinach salad is nicely put together - a pile of baby spinach leaves with a generous topping of grated cheese and a small handful of very good candied walnuts. My only quibble is the dollop of sweet-sour jam on top - it's tasty and appropriate, but I personally would have preferred it on the side so I could distribute it as I liked. I'd eat it again. My companion had the duck fat fries, which are what french fries want to be when they grow up. Shoestring potatoes, fried perfectly in tasty, tasty duck fat, dusted with seasonings and served with a side of sun-dried tomato ketchup. They were hot, crisp, tasty, and NOT over-salted. I had a bowl of chili. Purists will be outraged by the presence of beans, but I was very satisfied with the mix of small beans (white, red, black, and garbanzo) and meat chunks (beef and bork). The sauce is flavorful and spicy but it won't melt your sinuses. My only complaint is that they serve it in a soup cup and not a bucket. Nitpick: My companion had a Crispin cider, which was served with ice cubes. Crispin's a mainstay at our home, and it does NOT need ice cubes. Store it chilled, bring it to the table cold, and it will do just fine during the meal. The Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale is a good beer, and an excellent drink with the chili. It tastes like what it is: decent ale, with a rich, rounded finish from its trip through the barrel. Assuming they're still there next time I'm in town, I'd definitely go back. read more

My husband and I love this place. The white truffle black pepper bacon mac attack is unbelievable! My husband always gets the steak sandwich and I always steal a bite. I can't recommend the s'more dessert enough. When we decided to order it my husband (who isn't really into dessert) said I probably would be eating most of it. Boy was he wrong. We fought for each bite and then wanted to lick the plate clean. We brought my parents once and my dad said next time he probably would just order two or three of the s'mores. We've never had anything that wasn't good. We also asked once what all the names on the walls were about. Horrible experience! I cannot rate their food because we didn't eat there but their customer service was terrible. I made an early reservation in October to be sure our Holiday Party location was locked in, especially since our Guild voted on the location. Then 6 days before our party we received a call from The Black Pig informing us that our reservation had been cancelled in order to accommodate a larger group from Kohler who had reserved the entire restaurant on that day. We went to The Black Pig tonight to celebrate my husband's birthday. It was fantastic! We started at the bar for cocktails and the Duck Confit Fries. The bartender was very friendly, attentive, and very knowledgable! He was able to answer all of our questions regarding various Gins including descriptions of flavors and history. We really enjoyed talking to him! The Duck Fries served with cherry sauce were awesome, thinly sliced and fried perfectly and icluded bits of duck. At our table, we ordered from their Thursday Taco menu.....the Birthday boy ordered the Moroccan Lamb Taco and I the Jerk Chicken taco. Both were very flavorful to the point that we were unable to reconize one single flavor because the spices had been blended so well. We agreed that the last time we felt that way about a particular dish was many years ago at Sanford's restaurant in Milwaukee. This will be our "go to" place in Sheboygan :-) read more

Thanks to yelp we stopped here to try something new. We ordered 2 apps and my wife ordered the lobster and white truffle pancetta mac and cheese which was good and I had the lobster shrimp and black mussels pasta which was so under seasoned and swimming in sauce(also no flavor) I only ate it because it was almost $30.00. I would come again to try some of other great apps they have on the menu and maybe the brisket sandwich.
