We were looking for a place with great brats on our way from Milwaukee to Door County and this place came up high on yelp. After driving through farmlands and next to train tracks, we found this restaurant (a former train station). Walked into the bar and got some looks from locals, being the Californians we are. Seated quickly for lunch, we all got the single brats for $5.85 each with a side of tots. I've never seen butter listed as a side except in Wisconsin! The brats were delicious and buttery, big portions on a bun to accommodate two. Served with a Spotted Cow beer, it was perfect. We also got the torte cakes to go and had them later. My s'mores was amazing with its pie crust bottom, and my brother in law loved his cherry. Service was fast and pleasant. A definite stop if you are in the area. read more

This bar/restaurant is adorable! Love the ode to the railroad track it's nestled in front of. We were seated in the restaurant portion of the bar- simple menu. Burgers, fish sandwiches, chicken, and fried potato sides. LOADS of butter- as a good ole Sheboygan burger out to be. Took home 3 tortes that were yummy! Oreo was my favorite. Cash only! I had the fish it was market price. So it was about $17.50. I should have got some torte to take home. I was so full. I did swap out the regular French fries for sweet potato fries. It was very filling. They also had sprechers rootbeer on tap. Bring cash otherwise there is an ATM by the bathrooms. We went to Sheboygan for an anniversary party and came a day early - I asked google for the best restaurant and The Northwestern House came on top - went on Friday night and the staff was excellent along with the other customers sitting by us. The place was full but we were able to get seated immediately. My husband had the fish fry and I had the boasted chicken - both were awesome! We were so full but the customers told us to take out the tortes - we got the mint & rhubarb & since it was freezing out we kept in the vehicle until we got home on Saturday - tried one Saturday nite & one on Sunday - so delicious. I love this little restaurant. This is typical Wisconsin saloon/restaurant at it's best. The restaurant is next to the Northwestern railroad tracks as the name implies. There is plenty of parking in their lot. The building is on a corner and easy to find using navigation. Their menu is small but mighty. I've ordered their burger which is juicy and hot. Served very casual in a basket with fries. They also have a flavorful chicken sandwich. All of their dinners are simple but filling and flavorful. The highlight of our visit were the many types of desert tortes they have. These are creamy squares of delishisness I've never seen anywhere else. You cannot leave without trying one of the many flavors. I've tried the banana cream and cherry chocolate. Both were excellent. We plan to stop again for lunch next time we head north. read more

In town for one night. Being from the east coast, love cheesesteak subs. Saw they have a cheesesteak sandwich on their menu. Ordered it. Went to the restaurant to pick up the order and all they take is cash? In this day and age??? Apparently the lunch is the dinner menu and our server said on Friday nights even in freezing cold winter...people are lined up outside to eat there. I said why (like maybe big fish fry that night) and she said "no it's pay day then". Mostly they have sandwiches but do have perch and chicken dinners (fished local and local chickens). We got the cheese steak sandwich, pork chop sandwich and double bratwurst sandwich with fried white cheddar bites and "on tap"root beer. We liked the food quite a bit, but the presentation and service was, er, odd. I ordered a loaded Cheeseburger without any sides for $4.70. It arrived hot and butter-juicy. But wrapped in paper as if to go. And it was flopped down on the table without a plate or basket. Now, I'm not a picky diner. But that's just a turnoff. A ordered a bowl of the soup of the day for $3.75. It was hot and tasty in a home cookin' kind of way. The lady working at the register who took my money was about as friendly as a Republican at a Hillary fundraiser. But maybe it's different if your a local? Or if you order a shot from the bar with your lunch? We topped it off by sharing one of the highly recommended (by our car saleswoman) Tortes for $4.00. Now, this blueberry-topped contraption bore no relation to any "Torte" we've ever known. But as an interesting compilation of mousee and homemade cheesecake, it was pretty tasty nonetheless. Speaking of shots ... the locals sitting at the bar drinkin' hard liquor at 1pm was a perfect end to our day trip to Sheboyan. Old skool! Speaking of money ... be sure to bring some cash.
