The rolls were tasty, but made way too big - hard to pickup and hard to eat. When I walked in NOBODY behind the counter was wearing a mask. Their hot water for Japanese green tea which is a absolute for all sushi bars has been broken for months. They keep saying they will fix it. OR recently said they have a new one, just haven't hooked it up yet. I literally wanted to SMH.. Something so simple as hot water for tea. The staff that is a bunch of half awake teens literarily dresses in there pajamas.. seriously it's off putting .. it's like their attending a a 90s grunge concert. The music also reflects their appearance. You never see any management or anyone that's in charge over seeing the staffs dress & grooming, music choice . Service. I had a teen hostess last week literally swearing at the sushi chef for not putting up the right order while reaching over me. Who do you say something to ? Another teen working there? SMH. The service is super slow now. Took a hour to get our food. While they did a mega amounts of carry out. :/. The Bulgogi which I have ordered a dozen times now is dry and looks like a dry pile of old shaved roast beef. Their prices do not reflect a high quality of dining.. Japanese restaurants should be clean. Precise and high quality. From the appearance of the staff to the presentation and taste of the food. It's definitely lacking management. This is my all time favorite sushi restaurant. Pull up, grab a bite at the sushi bar and be amazed by their expertise. I was blown away once i saw the chef use a blow torch to cook a certain roll! I LOVE the crab stick appetizer and the crunchy crab roll with spicy mayo. I've also tried the burning California roll deep fried, Sakura roll, and chicken teriyaki roll. Best sushi spot I've ever been to hands down!!! Went for a quick lunch while I was in town to meet with my friend. He told nothing but great things about this place and now, I'm wishing this particular location would expand to Houston just for me!! The Obama roll is deliciousness all the way along with the salmon roll and many others. On top of that, the service was beyond excellent and accommodating, loved everything about the place and environment! The food is great. Our server today was mediocre. They forgot our utensils and then we had to ask for a bowl to put our sauce in. They then left our change at another table. While I hesitate to rate a sushi place by the non-sushi menu items, I will say the bi bim bap here is on point, just don't forget to let it sizzle a minute or two before digging in so the rice at the bottom can get a little crispy. Since this IS a sushi place; I will confirm the sushi here is perfect. The traditional rolls and nigiri were fresh and flavorful. The more creative rolls we tried were really tasty and unique. (The Obama roll is a great example of "that's not really sushi, but DAYUM if it isn't good!") Yes, the wait can suck, but the staff is friendly. Yes, it takes a little while for food to arrive, but that's how it works when everything is made to order. (If you're not sure of the difference, go to Kroger and pick up the sushi that was packed only an hour before. Or try carryout sushi literally anywhere). When you think of downriver - it's doubtful you think good sushi. Just being honest. Anyway, this place never disappoints. A few points though. If you go there on Friday/Saturday night expect a decent wait. Then, if you go for lunch expect a half empty place and an unreasonably long wait time for your food. Staff is good but sometimes not very attentive - which is why I docked a star. The biggest positive has to be that anything involving avocado - the avocados are always perfect. Awful food. Would not come again. Ordered the Katsu Entre, which is a fried pork cutlet with rice and some sides. To begin with, the broccoli was overcooked, and the carrot next to it was raw and slightly sour, making them a weird combination. The pork cutlet was the worst part. The breading was off on some pieces, the color clearly shows that it's over-fried, the meat was dry, probably due to too lean of a meat or the over-frying. Did not order any sushi or sashimi, and I would advise anyone to avoid them. The fish, shrimp, tofu and others in the refrigerator at the bar had saran wrap over them, which probably means that they use the leftover for the following day. (Sushi are supposed to be fresh on the day!) read more

I have ordered takeout sushi from this restaurant and the food is always great. I also like that the prices are very affordable for the wide variety that they have. Only reasons why I give it 4 stars is because on a Sunday night they told me I had an hour wait on my sushi and then it ended up taking closer to an hour and half and that they did not provide chopsticks and the right sauces that I had asked for in my takeout bag. read more

We tried BPT sushi for the first time and we were really pleased with the quality of the food. We tried four rolls: Caterpillar- amazing! Spicy tuna with cucumber inside and avocado on top. Our favorite roll of the night. Sakura- a little spicy but supremely good. California roll- classic and good Obama- this is a baked roll which I'm usually not a fan of, but it was pretty tasty. Needed a touch of something familiar as far as a restaurant is concerned since the Downriver community is about as diverse as CNN's newscast. Save for one black man or two. I needed something else besides the America restaurants like Chili's or Checkers. And I would pass by this place repeatedly so I figured as an Asian, I'd try it. Let's see what this Downriver place can do with Japanese food. The atmosphere has been given a concerted effort. They did the best they could. But for a Japanese sushi place, at least have more than two Asians in the restaurant! I really think they were trying to be competitive though. Sushi rolls were expensive and they offered no sashimi (perhaps not many DR folk like the authentic raw fish deal). Either way, it wasn't a bad experience. Honestly it's the best sushi in a 15 mile radius...trust me I've tried to find something closer to home! The quality in ingredients and craftsmanship is hard to beat! Not only is the sushi fresh and delicious but everything else is too. The Oyako Don, Bulgogi are two of my favorites but every chef special I have had we're knockouts ( like the duck ramen!) The staff, management and owner are lovely, personable, and one-of-a-kind. Chef Danny is a real sweetheart. Every visit really is a treat that's worth taking the time to sit back and appreciate! I must say that this sushi restaurant has the best sushi I have ever tried. We got a large assortment of sushi and they were all very good. what really stood out where a couple things: the SAKE: they have a great coconut lime sake which is less filtered and very tasty and strong. The sparking sake was ultimately my favorite and up until my visit here I didn't really like sake.' SUSHI: This restaurant is very innovative as I have never seen sracha on sushi, which is a shame, but they have it on a couple of rolls here. My favorite roll was the fresh roll, made with lettuce instead of seaweed...amazing! so light and delightful APPETIZER: The seaweed salad and Octopus salad was quite amazing. The octopus was fresh and well balance. What do I mean by that? it was just made very well. I recommend it STAFF: the staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. DECOR: I would say above average compared to some of the sushi places I've gone. I would compare it to Little Tree in Royal Oak. This was my first experience at a sushi restaurant. I have the normal California roll at a regular restaurant once..but that was it. II was afraid that there would not be a big choice for cooked sUshi, but there was! My husband and I came in for Lunch on a Sunday. We had the crab sticks for an appetizer..so good! The sauce is yummy! We then had the Obama roll, the firecracker roll and the crunchy crab. All three were great and came with cooked fish on it!
