It was pretty quiet (weeknight) when we arrived, and the bartender let us know to sit wherever we wanted - plenty of opportunity to space out from others. We all chose variations of cider-style mead, which were all quite good (really loved the Hawaiian ember and the Bavarian bicycle. Also picked up a couple of bottles to enjoy later! 10/10 love this place. We're out of the Sacramento area, and do day or weekend trips to Reno/Tahoe, and we make a point to stop here when in the area. The selection is great, and I appreciate they have a rotating "favorite" if you can't decide. The staff has always been friendly, the bathrooms clean, and the hand pies hot. Sometimes too hot, but that's not their fault; I was just impatient and that's what happens. The first time we went, it was a super quiet night, and we just got comfortable and enjoyed our drinks. Every other time we've been, it's been a show. Last time was live solo music (admittedly too loud for my taste). The time before, two couples were just wasted at the bar, and their interactions were golden. I think one of the wives was trying to pick up the other, and it got really weird among them, which was hilarious. We typically travel with our dog, and they allow our pup to hang out. Lead Dog Brewing next door wasn't originally dog-friendly, and "dog" is in the name. It looks like we might actually get a Spring this year, and they're walking distance to Greater Nevada Field, so drinks and baseball are gonna be a thing for us. read more

This is a very cool alternative to the traditional breweries we have in Reno. Their mead cocktails are very good. I especially liked #7. I haven't tried their food yet but can't wait to go back. The meads were delicious and I hope I can return after covid because the inside looks very Instagram worthy and trendy. We ordered by the door via the staff waiting with iPad and sat outside on the patio. I love that they were dog friendly!! They had an art installation going on when we visited yesterday (Thursday) and we were able to create some art and enjoy our mead. My favorite was the 35-1 but we tried almost all of them and none disappointed! Highly recommend trying this spot. There is also some other spots to get a drink nearby so it's a great launch point. So we stopped in for the warm drinks fundraiser, then we stayed for the Hawaiian Ember. Wow of wow it is awesome! Light and crisp, pineapple jalepeno flavor. Never thought I would like mead, but we loved it. We even got a growler to go. We will definitely be back, it was a great experience, but not the normal with two different tv station camera crews. We're here for a private event but this place is now open Wednesday-Sunday. I am so enjoying their mead!! I've had the Song of Rasputin which is a tangy raspberry, the PB&J which is described as PB with raspberries but has a strong hint of chocolate too and now the Rosemary Black, blackberry and rosemary. I have enjoyed them all (and am now thoroughly enjoying myself and very, very glad I have a designated driver and don't have to call a cab!) Black Rabbit Meads is the newest addition to the Reno Brewery District on 4th and has been our new go-to place in Reno. We've been 3x since it opened last month and I've been shouting from the roof tops about how much I love this place because it's so so yummy. It also happens to be Nevada's first ever meadery. Pretty cool. Mead is a honey-wine and tends to taste like a mix of beer, wine, and cider all in one. The meads at Black Rabbit are cider-style and are made with honey sourced from the Sierra Nevadas. They're currently serving four meads: Church of Roger, Hawaiian Ember, Song of Rasputin, and 3 Headed Rabbit. A tasting of four (any combo) is $10 and is well worth it. So far my favorites are the Church of Roger and the Hawaiian Ember; I typically get two of each of these in my tasting because I enjoy them that much. And while it would make more sense for me to order a glass of my favorite, I still prefer the opportunity to enjoy several different flavors in smaller tasting sizes. It was my first time trying mead, I had the Hawaiian one (jalapeño and pineapple): very tasty. Sweet with a hint of spice. If you're looking for something light and non bubbly it's a great drink to go for! Staff here was friendly and the restaurant was clean. Black Rabbit Meads now has a couple open months under their belt and are starting to stretch those lucky rabbit feet of theirs. Since opening, they have expanded their line of meads, making that new-brew-buzz last just that much longer for those of us already thoroughly won over. Located in the beating heart of the Brewery District down on Fourth Street, this place should for sure be a stop for anyone wanting to experience the true breadth of the craft alcohol scene in the Reno area. If you've been here before, then you know where the good stuff is. But for those who have yet to hop on down, you are in for a real treat. Their meads are brewed in what the owners call a "cider style", less sweet, much lighter, and bubblier than many other meads out there. From that base, they take their flagship brew and infuse myriads of flavors into it to make their different varieties. For my money, the Three Headed Rabbit knocks it out of the park, being a dry-hopped beverage that strikes a great sweet-bitter balance and is amazingly refreshing. Since my last visit there's been the addition of the Rosemary-Blackberry mead that is very good, along with a few new, quite interesting products to try out. For one, they brew a "junbucha", a non-alcoholic drink any fan of kombucha or hard tea will greatly enjoy. However, the real surprises came with their collabs with Lead Dog Brewing next door, creating a series of "beer-style meads" that really makes you think about what a mead could be. The Hawaiian Dankster is a sweet and spicy brew with chili and pineapple. The See Them Rabbits is hopped (naturally), and very reminiscent of a mellow IPA. But the surprise of surprises was the PB&J, a stout style brew that really did pack in the serious nutty and fruity flavors. Prices for most pints start at around $6-$8 per glass, depending on which one you order. Flights are also available for $11 if you want to try a bit of several different brews. The service here has always been quite friendly and courteous whenever I stop by, and the whole establishment has a great look and feel to it. Their hours also have expanded, giving us many more chances to swing by for a glass after a hard day's work. They are easy to find, nestled in the midst of so many other craft producers, but that does lead to the one major flaw they share with the other establishments in this part of town; parking. There is a small, shared lot to the side, but it can fill up pretty darn quick and can be rather tight to get in and out of, plus, the amount of street space nearby is somewhat limited. All things considered, though, Black Rabbit remains a real gem of a place, and really showcases the kind of creativity showing up in our region. I highly encourage anyone looking for something unique, or just a good, solid drink, to make it a point to swing by. I know I'll certainly be thirsty for more. Cheers, guys! read more

I deejayed a gathering of friends here a couple of nights ago and was very impressed by Black Rabbit Meads and their friendly staff. I've had mead before, and was under-impressed with the taste. I know it's mankind's oldest alcoholic beverage but I figured the taste is why humanity moved on to beer, wine, and spirits. But I was in for quite the opposite experience at Black Rabbit. The purveyors are proud of their meads and rightly so. I tried three that evening and I was blown away by the taste and complexities. First I tried the Blackberry/Rosemary brew. Hold your frickin' horses! What a combo! The viscosity of the mead is neither too watery or too thick (unlike my previous mead experiences) and the the taste- unbelievably delicious! I then tried the Pineapple/Jalapeno- yum! The pineapple balances the pepper with just a hint of heat. Double yum! Finally I tried the Peanut Butter variety. It was complex- indeed the first whiff reminded me of a chocolate Tootsie Pop and afterwards each drink was a bit different, especially if you didn't sip but took a goodly drink. I had the opportunity to drive around Belgium this Fall and partake in their amazingly first-class beer scene, and Black Rabbit reminded me of that trip. The best beers I've ever had and now the best meads. So go out and support some local entrepreneurs who make a unique and first-rate product and try some mead. Everyone had so much fun with their crafted Mead cocktails and they couldn't believe they had never been there. Amazing hand pies and the mead was everything I hoped for. I tried the flight of all the mead options and it was perfect.

I ordered the sampler of the four meads for $10. Pretty good value for what it is. However, I was here with a group of a dozen other people and not one of us felt that we'd come back. This is because the mead was just entirely uninteresting. There was barely a flavor difference between the four and none were particularly good or unique. One of the meads is their simple base and the other three have added flavors. Also, the vibe/look of the bar is nice but the location is hard to park at. read more
