Writing this here since I haven't received an email or call back: I'm writing to bring to your attention an unprofessional and uncomfortable experience I had at your restaurant on 3/28 involving a staff member named Demetra. It was one of those situations where I genuinely wish others had been within earshot, because the interaction was surprising and disappointing. I did notice what appeared to be a camera nearby, and I hope you're able to review the footage, ideally with audio, for full context. We arrived around 2:40 PM and were informed that the kitchen would be closing at 3:00 PM, so we would need to place our order quickly. While the initial delivery of that message felt a bit abrupt, we completely understood the timing and appreciated being accommodated so close to closing. Given the circumstances, the experience felt somewhat rushed, which again we understood. Our first interaction with Demetra was neutral, but the tone shifted when my partner asked whether the menu changed after reopening at 4:00 PM. Demetra responded by stating that the restaurant closes from 3:00-4:00 because "everyone works all day and needs a break" and that they are "legally required" to take one. The response came across as unnecessarily curt and dismissive. I do want to emphasize that the food itself was excellent and truly delicious and lived up to the positive reputation. However, the situation escalated when we received the bill, which totaled approximately $83. I left a $6 tip, reflecting the rushed and less-than-pleasant service experience. When Demetra saw the tip amount on the card reader, she gave a visibly disapproving look and proceeded to address it in a way that was confrontational and inappropriate. Without recounting every word exchanged, I can say her tone, demeanor, and comments were unprofessional enough that I ultimately had to ask her to stop speaking to me. Tipping is discretionary, and while we typically tip more, it is influenced by the overall experience. Regardless, no guest should feel judged or confronted over their decision. The interaction was unnecessary and detracted significantly from what could have otherwise been a positive visit. I'm not seeking any forms of compensation, but I did feel it was important to share this feedback. Experiences like this can ultimately impact a customer's willingness to return, and I hope it's helpful in ensuring a more positive environment for future guests. I tried Black Ruby for the first time - what a great addition to the food scene! Inside it's nothing fancy maybe 20 tables with a bar that seats 8. It looks like they're serving beer and wine - no hard liquors or cocktails in sight. The Crispy Basil Burger was fantastic! Juicy (this is definitely a meal for extra napkins) and just a bit spicy, served on a roll that supports all the toppings, highly recommended! The Pork Dumpling / potstickers were also an interesting fusion. They're in a soft opening, so there was some confusion about takeout orders, and they missed my request for a side salad - but then promptly credited my account when I contacted them. We visited Black Ruby on a Friday evening with a reservation and highly recommend making one if you can. It was pretty busy, but we were able to be seated right away. We got a couple of meads which were both good, the shrimp salad and Caesar salad as well as the khao soi and pork burgers. The salads were both fine, the shrimp wasn't exactly what I was expecting but still tasty (was a big lump of shrimp bits mixed with mandarin oranges on a bed of cabbage) and the Caesar in my opinion was fine but definitely nothing special. The burgers were both huge and delicious, especially the pork larb one. The herbs really add something unique to the burger that we've never really tasted before. We also tried the scallion fries which were basically chive cakes in stick form but were good as well. My main nit is that they're still using their soft opening menu, which would be fine except a bunch of items have been crossed out as no longer being offered. It was a little sad to see things that looked delicious but not an option anymore, plus the menus we got were pretty ratty and about to fall apart so it was a little tough to navigate. read more

I started this review months ago and forgot to finish. Some thoughts are old and some are new! Overall, I think this is a great fusion spot and my honest rating after having been multiple times is 4.5/5. I greatly appreciate the variety of the menu items and that there are multiple vegetarian substitution options for most of the menu items, including the sandwiches (tofu or Impossible patty)! To start, the staff are very friendly and helpful, and the location and ambiance are pleasant. The food is definitely photogenic if you're into that (I've been more than four times and somehow have no photos, but I think the presentation is good!!). While advertising itself on being a burger joint, the menu has other options like salads and pastas. So far I've had a few of the burgers/sandwiches and most of the appetizers and sides. The fried calamari has been my favorite appetizer so far, and the green curry sandwich (I do not eat meat, so I get an Impossible patty) has been my favorite item, which imparts an incredible green curry taste using a very small amount of curry relative to the burger. My partner swears by the garlic burger, which seems to rightfully be their flagship item. One complaint that I do have is that the green curry comes with a very small amount of eggplant, but the bites containing eggplant are easily the most flavorful. I think some items have no place on the menu, such as sweet potato fries, which (in my experience) do not pair very nicely with the punchy, spicy, tangy, and sour Thai flavors that most of the dishes carry. Additionally, Black Ruby has been open for some months now and still seems to be either finalizing menu items or has been out of certain dishes for the entirety of its operation, which is a little confusing. read more

I am a Chef. I love chicken satay and was SO excited to try this sandwich. While the chicken marinade and peanut sauce were excellent, possibly 5/5, the rest was unfortunately incredibly underwhelming for a "thai-inspired" sandwich. I would be happy to return for a side order of peanut sauce, or if they add a chicken satay appetizer or dish, but was very disappointed by this sandwich. I would not call the cucumber a "Thai sweet pickle." It did seem to have some sort of quick-pickling technique, but not enough to be noticeable. Also, please consider pickling the carrots instead of serving them raw and unseasoned. Nothing about either the cucumber or the carrots were Thai-inspired. I was very excited for the bun given that is it a "homemade sourdough brioche bun." Putting aside the fact that it was still raw and doughy, it was fairly well executed. While I wouldn't use the word "brioche" in its description, the sourdough was very flavorful. But again, nothing about it was thai-inspired. Consider adding coconut milk to the dough, or infusing it with lemongrass, coriander, chili flakes, or fish sauce/soy sauce. I was also expecting a slightly larger serving of chicken. At least as much as you would get when ordering a normal satay appetizer. read more

I'd describe this place as just okay. Food is a solid 6.5 out of 10. The burgers themselves are decent but not showstoppers by any means. Pork dumplings and spring rolls were reasonably tasty (and plating/presentation was surprisingly nice) but portion sizes were quite small, though this was mostly to be expected. Best dish we had was a pasta with green curry sauce which was more memorable than the other more muted flavours. Ambiance is...dull. Wouldn't recommend for a date spot or anything. Tables are pretty close together, the music in the background is pretty anodyne, and there are some weird AI-generated pictures on the wall. The service was unfortunately just poor. In large part this seemed to be due to the place just being understaffed. We waited at the counter for around five minutes and were eventually pointed in the vague direction of our table, so we made our way over by ourselves. It took around 15 minutes before the waitress came by to take our order. We put in for a couple of apps and drinks, and after 10 minutes another waitress came by (not with apps, but ostensibly to take our order for the first time?). I'm being pretty nitpicky here but there was a general pattern of indifference across virtually every interaction. Napkins and plates were unceremoniously dumped on the table. Glasses went un-filled for a long time. The menus were very worn and looked ragged. The waitresses were very rushed/hurried (not their fault, they seemed quite overburdened) and there were some English communication difficulties as well. I suspect this would be a reasonably good choice to get takeout/delivery as the food isn't bad, but they have a lot of work to do refining their service and tending to other details if they want to be a serious restaurant. read more

What a great and creative addition to the neighborhood! Not your everyday burger...it's craft Thai fusion! I've been a couple times and my favorite burger is The Thai, garlic, beef, burger. Came out so juicy and delicious. Wonderfully prepared with mushrooms and cheese that was oozing from all sides. The french fries, here are fantastic and the service, quick and friendly. My second favorite burger is the crispy basil, beef, burger. Some might find it a little spicy, but it's not over the top spicy . This is a great place. All I have to say is WOW. I got the pad thai spring rolls, the shrimp tom yum salad, the Khai Soi Burger, and the Green Curry chicken sandwich. It is absolutely incredible, the thai sauces mixed with American classic dishes made me speechless. Took my adult son here as a break from the wife . Had a good time chatting and catching up, he said this place had been buzzing on social media!! The service was fast and nice and the ambiance was lovely. We ordered the Thai PB & J burger, mine was gluten free, his was ~normal~ (LOL) and the sriracha satay fries. We also got the thai pumpkin coconut brûlée dessert. The fries were really crispy and flavorful with almost no heat to them, so note that if you're looking for something spicy! The burgers were good, although the meat itself was cooked through, but lukewarm which was slightly unpleasant as burgers should be served hotter. Not sure how this happens as the food came out quickly, there was no time for it it sit. The dessert was fine, the hot rice under the coconut custard was an unpleasant texture and temperature for crème brûlée but the flavor was good. I think it would be a lot better without the rice entirely. Most of the other desserts I have had and loved. Would return! read more

The food and cocktails were so good! Our party of 2 came on a Tuesday evening for dinner. The restaurant was not crowded at first but it was full by 7:30 pm. No loud music. Service was good. Nice looking restaurant. We got: the Thai tea spritz - tastes like a really good candy. The plum sour- sweet and sour taste goes so well together. Heavy on the sour if that is your thing. The Thai herbs calamari- great crunchy coating on the outside. Compare to the other 2 dishes, this one did not have as big of a surprise twist, but it was still a very good dish. The tom yum shrimp- great rich flavor. The shrimp was so good. Nice twist with the pasta. I always wanted to have tom yum flavor noddle that isn't in soup form and now I got my wish. Chicksatay sandwich- i usually do not like the satay chicken at other places but this was very good. I did not get bored of eating it. I went a while ago during their soft opening and had a good time. It's supposed to be Thai-inspired burgers, and that's literally it. The burgers are indeed delicious themselves, and they have some twist on it e.g. some sauce that reminds you of Thai food or some crispy noodle topping that you'd usually find in Thai food. It's interesting, but honestly I felt it was a bit overhyped and expensive for what it is... I felt it was more like an "influencer" place. The restaurant itself is quite nice and modern upscale. But the food took forever to come... hopefully that's just a kink from the soft opening that'll be ironed out eventually. read more
