    Thai Spicy Calamari
    Dinesh G.

I heard about this place from couple of my friends for a while and wanted to give it a try. I am glad I finally did. Well, the food tasted real good - best Thai craft burger in the town. Reservations is highly recommended - walks in are accepted as well, but note that walk in wait time may vary. The spicy calamari, Massaman Beef burger are the must try. I heard good things about the desserts unfortunately I didn't not have a chance to try it - if someone do try it, lmk how it is. The service was faster and the staff are friendly. This place is perfect for group and intimate dates and college gatherings. I am def gonna visit again soon to try out the other food in their menu. :)

Came here on a Sunday for a later lunch and the place was pretty empty. Interior was sleek and modern with wooden finishes with plenty of lighting from the big windows by the front. Menu had a good selection of entrees which I shared everything with a friend rather than order separately. Service was solid and relatively quick. Food came out in a reasonable manner and everything tasted great - Thai tea was yummy, burger was delicious, fries were so well seasoned, and the pasta was great along with the dessert. Only complaint is portions - definitely small for what you paid for. Overall, we had a solid meal and left feeling very full. I wouldn't mind coming back, but it isn't a restaurant I'd be a regular out due to its price.

Really interesting and tasty menu. I thought the drinks would be too sweet but they were quite good. It's a busy place but you can get a reservation. It's a little tricky if you need to wait inside. The servers are on top of things but efficient as are the seatings but it was a good meal!

I had such a lovely experience here. I didn't have a reservation but was surprisingly seated instantly. The restaurant was on the smaller side and has been a hot commodity so I really wasn't expecting to land a seat on a Sunday night. The staff was super friendly and helpful with the menu, I had a couple questions. After speaking with the waiter I landed on the Massaman burger and chicken sandwich. Both were seriously UNREAL. I cannot stand dry beef or chicken and the meat itself was so moist. Once combined with their sauce...life changing. I cannot wait to go back here.

Thai Fusion? I am often skeptical when it comes to any asian fusion spots, but Black Ruby...does it VERY well. I was honestly blown away. The Massaman Burger, y'all already know that's why I came. Is it worth the hype? Some people are saying this is the best burger in Boston. Curry... and Burger? Somehow, someway... this works extremely well. That's a real good burger. I'm a huge texture person so the crunch was perfect. The curry wasn't overpowering at all. The green curry pasta was so good! The perfect spice level and the thickness of the curry stuck to the pasta perfectly. However, the steak might've been a little overcooked, in my opinion. Still good, though. Reservations are recommended, but walk-ins are allowed. I got lucky when arriving! Perfect spot for date night, and the drinks are sooo good. I got the thai tea martini and it was yummy. I'm not a big fan of an old fashioned, but it was pleasant. This might be the only place I'd voluntarily drink one.

While the food was pretty good the service was definitely lacking. I'm not sure if they were having an off night or just need to adjust their front of house staffing but it seemed like there was way too much going on for the FOH staff. It took about 20 minutes to get a glass of wine after we ordered it while sitting at the bar because it looked like the bartender was having to make desserts for a while. We also had the appetizer delivered but got no napkins or utensils until after we ate the app with our hands and we still had to ask for them since we knew we couldn't eat the pasta with our hands. The food was really good and I would order takeout from here but I wouldn't return to dine in unless some changes are made.

Once I tried Black Ruby, it immediately became one of my favorite restaurants in Cambridge. The cocktails are creative and delicious--I love the Thai Tea Martini--and the food is fantastic as well. The Khao Soi burger is my go-to. It has all of the flavors and textures of Khao Soi, with pickled mustard greens for acid, crispy noodles for a crunchy flair, and just the right amount of spice. I find myself craving it often! The one and only bone I have to pick with Black Ruby is that the service, while very attentive, is almost TOO fast. I get that they want to turn tables over efficiently, but the last couple of times I've come, I kind of felt like they were rushing me out. I came here to catch up with a couple friends and our food came almost instantly, before our drinks, and the waitress seemed eager to keep us moving. I think our entire meal was less than 50 minutes. While I'll definitely be back, I think it won't be somewhere I'd bring friends anymore since it's just not enough time for a full conversation.

We decided to go on Valentine's Day, had a reservation, went in sat down. All super great. Waitress? Awful, looked like she was not happy to be there, was annoyed when we took off our jackets because she was bringing over water so she rolled her eyes and went to talk to the host. Our food was good. The burger didn't have enough sauce it was a very thin layer of it HOWEVER the burger was amazing, toasted and super flavorful. The paste was a great amount, yummy and spicy. The mango sticky rice was honestly the best. It was sweet, moist and that ice cream on top just melted.

Went here for the first time with my sister on a Saturday night. We didn't have a reservation, there was a wait but we got lucky and snagged a spot right away. The menu seems to be thai-fusion. We got the spritz with was made with thai tea and it gave it a very different taste than a typical aperol spritz. The pad thai spring rolls were tasty but left me wanting veggies. The trending massaman burger was absolutely delicious, I had never had massaman curry before but I loved it. The Green curry chicken sandwich was fantastic, the chicken was cooked wonderfully and the green curry was really good. Also their plain fries, 10/10.

Went here with a group of friends & definitely will be coming back! The food is delicious, the ambience is perfect in terms of low light setting & where the music is low enough where you can hear & have convos!!

Visited Black Ruby today for dinner! We've been looking out for reservations throughout the week but looks like they fill up pretty quick, so we took the risk tonight & showed up walk-in. To our surprise, we were pretty much seated immediately upon arrival! We had the choice of either sitting at one of the smaller tables or by the bar. Decided to do bar seating as the table available was very small. Pretty extensive menu! LOTS of drinks. Burgers are very popular choices but if you're not feeling a burger, they have salads + pasta options too! We took our server's suggestion & ordered one burger and one pasta to share. Here's specifically what we ordered: -Thai Iced Tea (x2) -Spicy Calamari -Massaman Burger -Red Curry Bolognese There were sooo many drinks to choose from & we were very tempted to try but nothing can beat a classic Thai Iced Tea! We both got one & it was good! Not the best either of us has ever had but we also didn't expect it to be either since it's a Thai fusion spot. Not bad though... creamy! We had to order the spicy calamari because honestly, it's a must every time we go out to eat... doesn't matter where hahaha. Biggest rings of calamari both of us have seen. The calamari was a bit chewy & could've used some salt. The sweet chili house mayo sauce it came with did help a lot. The lime it came with was pretty much just decoration. Already precut & no juice unfortunately. 6.5/10. The Massaman Burger & the Red Curry Bolognese arrived to us at the same time and we tried the pasta first. We probably should've tried the burger first but oh well, next time! To us, the red curry bolognese was the most disappointing dish we ordered tonight. The sauce was super watery & all I personally could taste was tomato, nothing else. Salt + seasoning was definitely needed. I felt like this dish was very weak & wasn't tasty. Only took one bite & left the rest. Now, as for the burger... much better than the pasta. Still thought the curry needed salt but I can see the vision! The burger is already cut in half, so perfect for sharing. I liked that the burger had red onions, pickles, + supposedly crispy shallots? They added a nice crunch! I think they actually put potato chips in our burger, instead of crispy shallots lol. Not exactly sure if it was potato chips but definitely was not crispy shallots. Either way, still appreciated the extra crunch. I dipped a little bit of the house sweet chili mayo sauce from the calamari & found it to be a nice combo. Overall, not a bad spot to grab a burger! The food arrived pretty fast, we were in and out in less than an hour which was impressive considering how packed it got with the dinner rush. I don't think I'd come here often but would definitely come back again. Presentations of the food were nice but taste-wise, the food fell a little short. I was expecting a bit more umami and oomph. The fusion dishes were incredibly unique and full of flavor. I highly recommend trying the small plates--they were absolutely delicious. The scallion fries stood out as a creative and memorable dish. Service was fast and efficient, but the restaurant fills up quickly, so a reservation is definitely recommended since the space is on the smaller side. The drinks were also a bit limited as they didn't have a full bar: wine, beer or sake. However, it was a unique twist on cocktails adding sake. One note: don't underestimate the spice level-- even dishes marked with just one pepper can pack quite a kick. The pasta, in particular, was much spicier than I expected.

Came here on New Year's Eve and it was fantastic. The service and ambience are great, but the food was incredible! Everything came quickly and all of them were delicious. It was so exciting to try a new place and love every single menu item we tried. - The Massaman burger had an amazing balance of flavors and textures to it. Definitely want to come back to try more burgers. - The crispy scallion fries were incredible, I wasn't expecting much but they were so good. It's how I wish radish cakes would taste at dim sum, if that makes sense. - The green curry pasta was great, another great balance of textures and spice, the choice by the restaurant to go with rigatoni as the shape was excellent. - The mango sticky rice was perhaps the only thing that left something to be desired. The rice wasn't quite sticky enough and I personally prefer the dish a touch saltier, this dish was simply sweet (but not too sweet!)

Not spicy. Not too saucy, so you can "feel" the noodle, but I would have liked more vegetables. -- Yibin Fiery Noodles: Warm and similarly al dente, these were manageably spicy. Meat crumble, seeds or nuts, scallions, and heat. -- Red and Green Pepper Chicken: Batterless but crisp, tender, and not boneless. Relentlessly spicy from several heat sources and kaleidoscopically delicious. The closest comparison is dry hot chicken that also goes by a few other names, but this was better. Elite, and the best thing I ate in all of 2025, but sadly no longer on the menu. -- Stone Pot Tofu: Billed as Ma Po Tofu sizzling in a stone pot, but no sizzle and no stone pot. Identified as very spicy but minimally spicy and more numbing (more "ma" than "la"). I enjoyed the overall flavor (heavily seasoned) and the saltiness of the fermented black beans. Despite some of the menu discrepancies, this was a really good version for my tastes. Near-elite. -- Green Beans With Eggplant: Strong flavor, not too hot spicewise, but volcanically hot temperaturewise. Decent. -- Chicken and Clams: Black bean flavor, whole peppercorns, spicy but loaded with flavor beyond the spice. A deceptively huge and quite delicious. Elite. -- Beef Spring Rolls: Not my choice. Crisp, beefy, and chili sauce on the side added contrast. Solid, but boring, more typical of an Americanized offering, and a waste of an opportunity given Too Hot's killer menu. -- Pork Belly with Fermented Beans: Superb rendition, not drastically different from twice cooked pork, but much more flavor and giant pieces. Near-elite to Elite. -- Shrimp in Dry Hot Pot: Tons of dry rub spiciness, giant shrimp, chopped vegetables, and crinkle cut potatoes. Near-elite. -- Brussels Sprouts w/Shallots: More subtle flavors here but hardly bland. Fried shallots had sort of an onion ringy presence in miniature. Cooked just right. Outstanding overall experience, with the best dish on the first visit and almost all winners on the second. Kudos to the friendly and helpful service, including a server suggestion to switch an item after noticing we ordered two very similar items. Eager to return often and try even more of the menu.

Overall, a solid restaurant and option for Chinese food in Harvard Square.

Jahunger truly delivers. The restaurant immediately sets the mood. Candlelight, the scent of incense, traditional instruments on the walls, and pothos plants growing from mounted glass jars all make the space feel warm and inviting. One warning: unless you arrive around 6 p.m. or earlier, expect a wait. (It's popular.) Oh, and the food is worth it. The leek and egg dumplings tasted homemade in the best way: slightly rustic, fresh, and delicious. The hand-pulled noodles are the stars. Every noodle dish we ordered had the perfect chewy texture. My favorite was the Laghman noodles, though the Jahunger noodles were a close second with their rich spices and satisfying heat. The mee fen and stir-fried green beans both packed a respectable kick and leaned a little salty, but not enough to keep me from happily polishing them off. Don't forget the tea! It's beautiful to look at, filled with all sorts of ingredients (Chinese jujubes!), and only lightly sweet, which I appreciated. Then came the showstopping honey cake. The cake itself was fluffy, while the filling had a firmer, almost sticky texture with deep caramelized flavors that reminded me of burnt caramel in the best possible way. Paired with what tasted like coffee ice cream, it was the perfect ending to the meal. Jahunger is one of those restaurants that makes you want to come back before you've even paid the bill. I'm so glad Jahunger made it to Cambridge; the Boston food scene is richer because it's here.

PAGU had their limited offering of its Black Squid Ink Softshell Crab Bao and I was there not once,…read morebut twice! This unique and creative offering had a crunchy softshell crab, topped off with a nori-yuzu Kosho alioli and pickled cabbage, all warmly hugged in the black squid ink bao! Absolutely delish! My favorite dishes that will tantalize your taste buds were: - Japanese Hamchi Crudo was a chilled delight with fresh fish and a good hint of lime (not pictured) - Patatas Bravas had a good potato bite that was dolloped with a Thai chili alioli and mojo verde - Shio Koji-roasted Corn was kernels of fun to eat - Miso Roasted Black Cod was succulent and sweet to the bite - Duck Paella was so tender that the meat fell off the bone! - Ube Panna Cotta was a sweet way to end dinner with the custardy ube There is definitely a modern artisanal feel to all the food that blended Japanese and Spanish influences. The vibe of the restaurant was also very open with its high ceilings and tall windows. The wait staff were very friendly and ready to answer any menu questions. The open kitchen is also fun for those who love watching food being created! With it's unique tastes, it's no wonder PAGO was a Michelin Bib Gourmand!

For drinks, we ordered the spritz from the drink menu and also asked if they could make a lychee martini. The lychee martinis weren't bad and were pink to match the spritz which was fun, but I do wish the martini included an actual lychee. We ordered the pork bao buns for the table which usually come in two, but our waitress kindly offered for three bao buns to come out since our group had three people. These bao buns were fantastic and I would definitely recommend, the pork was so tender and flavorful. I ordered the 2011 guchi ramen and unfortunately, I was disappointed. I've had many bowls of ramen in my lifetime and maybe my opinion is based on personal preference, but the ramen was not great. The broth was pretty bland and the pork was mostly fat and the meat itself was quite dry and tough. I'm not sure if this is what they were going for, but I wouldn't recommend the ramen and I wouldn't get it again. However, I wouldn't be opposed to coming back and trying something else as my friends enjoyed their meal!
