We were here for MIT reunion and Flour was so great we visited twice. It is a busy cafe with pastries and sandwiches, perfect for breakfast or lunch. It is very comfortable although getting a table may be a challenge. First trip I had the chicken parmigiana sandwich. The chicken and sauce were nice, but i really loved the bread. My wife had the avocado toast and thought it was excellent. On second trip, I had the breakfast sandwich with sausage, the raspberry meringue cloud, and a chai latte (sweetened with whole milk). Everything was wonderful. The chai latte had a rich flavor and then the sandwich was absolutely delicious. The raspberry meringue was a pleasant surprise, it is large but the meringue was perfect. Blueberry Poptart - easily the best thing we ordered! It's simple, but the blueberry flavor was elegantly on top, spread evenly, and not artificial tasting. Each bite was balanced with faint flakiness, blueberry sweetness, and even a soft base. Sticky Sticky Bun - very much like a cinnamon roll with extra caramel and sugar holding delicious pecans on top. While the bun itself was sweet, adding the sticky sauce on top was a sugar overload. Stumbled upon here and it is a great little spot. Love their pastry selection and they have a variety of food! The only thing is limited seated. While it may look like a big place, we had to wait a bit for seat to open up. Got the smoked Salmon Filet Caesar Salad and the Braised Beef Melt. Have some seatings and counter to place your order. Outside seatings are available as well. Place was quite busy just as I remembered. We just placed order and waited while we grabbed some seats We ordered iced cafe mocha, spicy tasso ham egg salad, sticky bun, strawberry lemonade and tofu sandwich. Getting the food and drinks were a bit confusing as they put out food on one counter, drinks on another and egg salad was actually in a packaged goods in refrigerated section. The staff was nice to help us find them in the end though. The mocha needed a bit of mixing but was good and so as strawberry lemonade. Egg salad was okay it was not as good as i expected to be. Tofu sandwich was okay but it was without the sauce because my partner did not want with it. Sticky bun was the highlight. It's sticky, filled with walnuts, sweet and soft buns are perfect combo. My partner said he enjoyed this during his stay in Boston, so we had to try it out! It was busy with a line for in-person orders and a kiosk for orders. Seating is first come first serve so we nabbed a table as soon as it opened. Our name was suppose to be called when ready, but it took a bit and our name was not called out, just added to the counter. Vibe is chill and typical of a student cafe spot. I ordered Spicy tofu sandwich with the modification of multi grain bread and no tahini sauce. Half the sandwich felt more like a good portion size, but I think I could've definitely finished it all. tofu was chill and savory and the chili sauce is on the mild side, and could've been more spicy! I ordered the strawberry lemonade because I wanted something refreshing. It hit the spot and was tasty but on the sweeter side. My partner ordered the mocha coffee and it was good and mild. Over several days I tried hot and cold breakfast and entree sandwiches. Everything was at least good or great. The tuna melt is easily one of the best sandwiches I have had. Starting with a high-quality solid albacore tuna salad with a great mix of textures and balanced flavor. Put that one some fresh rye, some pickled banana peppers, and top with a flavorful cheese and melt it? Heaven! I had three in one week. (Perhaps my one critique/issue: tomatoes. They were exactly like every other disappointing restaurant tomato. Not-red pink and no hint of tomato flavor - I opted to skip them on thRe repeat sandwiches) If you are not into tuna, try the chicken parmigiana sando - it's comfort wrapped in butcher paper. The chicken filets were meaty and gorgeously cooked. Not into chicken, is your red-meat carnivore calling? Go for the roast beef sandwich. Cold sandwich: simple with gorgeous pile of thinly sliced beef and a ciabatta bread with a crust-chew and texture that balances the beef and soaks up some of those sandwich juices. This is a clean comfortable friendly branch of Flour. The staff are lovely, there's a convenient quiet place to work, free wifi and free coffee refills, and air conditioning that's not too cold. A delicious thing to get here is what they call "children's pain suisse"--brioche dough around a rectangular slab of dark chocolate, like something a French or Swiss kid might have for a mid-morning snack. I am always surprised by its deliciousness and always happy when I get it. Not a fan of most of the other pastries, though the banana bread is good, too. There's not enough food here for me that's doesn't involve bread, and what there is is more pricey than it ought to be. Disappointing Decline in Quality and Menu Variety I used to love this café. It was my go-to spot for amazing sandwiches and some of the best soups in town. The menu felt thoughtful, generous, and made with care. Sadly, that's no longer the case. It seems the owners have made a deliberate choice to cut corners on ingredients and labor. Long-time staples like the Beef Chili Soup are gone entirely, and the rest of the menu feels stripped down and uninspired. Even the baked goods, which used to look fresh and house-made every day, now appear lackluster and mass-produced. What was once a standout café has become just another mediocre spot. The drop in quality is impossible to ignore, and it's extremely disappointing for a longtime customer. Brief Summary: - Coffee is sour - Ordering can be done at the kiosk - Indoor and outdoor seating We arrived here in the early afternoon, so there were guests sitting in most of the space inside and outside of this cafe. There were two ordering styles, one by the staff and the other by the kiosk. It was nice to see the kiosk order, so we tried this for this time around. The kiosk ordering style was like boba, where it first started with the base and then additional steps to customize. For example, with the toast, it starts off with a plain piece of toast (customize on the quantity), then you can choose to add butter or other jams, and then then adding a side of a poached egg. This was easier to follow for someone who is familiar with ordering from a tablet, but with my elder relative, they were very confused on why they were being asked for additional items, when they expected one push to put the whole set (toast, egg, butter, and jam) into the cart. We also ordered a salad, a roasted beef sandwich and a pastry. However, after ordering, it turns out that this was out of stock, so the staff came by and guided us to the staff desk to swap an item for something else. We got the cheese pastry instead and paid the remaining. I enjoyed this cafe for the variety of menu options, including toast, which was harder to find in other cafés. Dropped in with a friend while visiting the city as we were craving some matcha lattes. I was recommended this chain by a friend who had lived in the city. We came on a Tuesday afternoon and the place was very popular! The employee who was working cashier was friendly and even politely gave me some of their decorative washi tape they use to close up pastry orders so I could add it to my journal. You do have to ask for a code to use the restroom here but it is clean to use. Hot matcha latte with whole milk 3/5, I was a little cold so I opted for a hot matcha. I definitely think they add enough matcha powder to this drink ratio wise with the milk however; my issue was I do not think they whisk it in enough with boiling water or milk before adding in hot milk which leaves the matcha not smooth to go down and instead have a powdery taste as you can taste parts of it undissolved. Iced matcha with whole milk 3/5, this is what my friend ordered and he also agreed that while the matcha:milk ratio was well done, his matcha powder was also not well dissolved into the milk which also left his drink tasting powdery. read more

An iced matcha latte is a hard drink to mess up. Typically, there are 2 or 3 ingredients: milk, matcha powder mixed in water, and maybe a syrup. My drink consisted of just those three components: whole milk, vanilla syrup, and matcha. Flour Bakery + Cafe did the first two correctly. Whole milk and syrup were expertly added to ice, with a nice ratio between the two. Now, let's talk about the matcha. As a small business, shouldn't you feel embarrassed when embarrassed when a global entity like Starbucks puts more energy into their matcha than you do? Starbucks will actually use a chasen and a chawan to whisk air into the matcha, creating a luxurious, silky, velvety mouth-feel, before adding it over the drink. The nice man over at Flour squirted some pre-diluted matcha powder from a squeeze bottle for .16 seconds over my drink, which yielded me a large matcha that had the final color of Common sage, and allowed me to only taste the milk and vanilla. Not to mention it took 15 minutes to get my drink, while many people who ordered after me received their drinks first. Meanwhile, at Verveine Cafe and Bakery, another small business a few steps over, my matcha latte was a luxurious forest green, allowing me to taste the grassy and seaweed-y qualities of the matcha more than I tasted the milk. Sadly, I would would recommend Starbucks, and especially Verveine, greatly over I would recommend this place due to their inability to make a matcha latte that was actually green. Came here on a Sunday morning and placed an order through the kiosk they have set up as there was no wait that way. It was a little hard to choose I wanted due to the extensiveness of their menu, but overall it was a relatively smooth experience. Picking up my food, it was a little confusing. The drink came out first, but they didn't say anything about when the baked goods would come out. They weren't busy at the time of me ordering either so I couldn't place why they weren't as communicative or helpful. Other people who came up to get their food while I was waiting were equally as confused and it wasn't clear that sandwiches and more lunch foods were to be picked up elsewhere so maybe working on that confusion would helpful. It also happened to be their birthday so they were handing out cupcakes at the time I came. They handed it to everyone who placed an order at the cashier so I also asked for one when I picked up my pastries, but the person looking gave me a very blank gaze before wordlessly handing me a cupcake. It didn't feel very friendly or courteous so that was a bit off-putting. The drink was pretty good and the cinnamon bun had a nice taste. The cake was very sweet and the Fruit Loops attached to it were soggy, but I'm not sure how that could be avoided. I'm glad I tried both pastries, but I preferred the cinnamon bun by a lot. My coworkers and I routinely get lunch from Flour. My favorite sandwich here is the Chicken Tikka Masala Naan. It's got some deliciously spiced chicken and cucumbers and dill wrapped in a flatbread. The chutney sauce is really good and the sandwich never feels dry. The roast beef sandwich is also pretty good. I usually go for that if I'm not that hungry, because it comes in half sizes. The drinks are okay in my opinion. Not awful, but also not that good. The teas in particular are really expensive (you're basically buying a teabag for $2.50) The lines get REAL long on weekdays during lunch. I recommend ordering ahead online well before 12pm to avoid the lunch rush. Or else you'll be stuck waiting 45+ minutes for some orders. read more

Really great food overall. Super fresh ingredients, good quality, great sauces. One of our go-to's for a quick meal or baked treat. Tried the applewood smoked bacon sandwich and the miso tofu bowl today, both fantastic. I do however want to comment on some recent changes, particularly with the breads. The roast beef sandwich used to be to-die for but the bread was changed from a sliced lighter bread to a ciabatta. Nothing wrong with ciabatta but it's too heavy for the sandwich, it overpowers the taste and texture and now we never order it anymore. I think we can modify the bread when ordering it but I don't see a comparable option. Would love to see that bread style back for the roast beef. Also really miss the lamb sandwich and hope that comes back! Probably seasonal. Again, aside from this, fantastic spot and highly recommend. read more
