Black Salt is a small, quaint place to have a dinner date or catch up with a small party. It's always great to see other Indians who choose to eat there which means the quality and uniqueness to the region is probably close! We had the black salt seasoned naan and rosemary/butter naan. Both were unique and absolutely delicious. The buttered naan was very tomato forward with a wonderful sweetness. The tiki masala was also further unique and a bit more bold in flavor. We both got medium spice and it was not too much at all. Waitress and support staff were amazing. I was supposed to meet up with a few friends at Black Salt last weekend but I couldn't make it. My friend was very pleased with the service and the food here. So I went tonight with my partner for our midweek date night. We received a notification that our table was ready 5 minutes before our reservation time which was very neat. I was impressed with how simple but elegant the restaurant. However, they have a pretty small space with not so many tables, reservation ahead of time is a must. We started with mango lassi and masala chai. I loved the mango lassi a lot- the sweetness is perfect for my liking. Masala chai was very creamy and balanced in spices. For entrée,we ordered our go to dishes - butter chicken with garlic naan and biriyani lamb. We also got tandoori murgh and mango palak chaat which were suggested by my server. The food came out pretty quick. We loved all the dishes here - very rich in flavor, generous portion and well presentation. We liked Mango palak chaat a lot- such a well balancing flavor appetizer. I personally think their garlic naan is the best garlic naan I ever had - the bread was super soft and buttery. I ordered roti for my son but I didn't like it as much as garlic naan. Came by for lunch and the food lived up to the hype! Inside was smaller than expected but decor is modern and clean, with plenty of natural light. I got the lunch thali combo (lamb) which was quite a variety of foods - 3 meat dishes, 2 vegetarian dishes, 1 yogurt dip, 1 dessert, and a small salad. There were 3 types of starch- rice, buttered naan, and chickpea crispy flatbread (papadum). They also offered customization for spice level! Cozy Indian fare with a modern twist. Black Salt is a newcomer on the scene and did not disappoint. Environment/Service: The unassuming location in a strip mall was simple yet well decorated. As it is a small restaurant, we recommend arriving with a reservation, especially during peak hours. Even with a reservation we ended up waiting about 10 minutes. Service was friendly and a little slow, but understandable for how busy they were with a full house. The owner brought out a Rasmalai dessert with candle and drum as we were celebrating a birthday. Food: We started with the Teen Mirch Paneer Tikka which did not disappoint. The paneer was marinated nicely and charred well. It came with a spicy mint chutney and a tamarind based chutney. For our main dish we shared the Zafrani Lamb Chops which came with 3 pieces. The gravy was rich and creamy with nice flavor. We had hoped that it would be a little bit spicier and the lamb more tender. To drink, we had the fresh lime soda (pictured) which was absolutely refreshing and delicious. They boast a small bar menu which we will have to try next time. The birthday dessert was pillowy and hit the perfect pistachio notes. Rating: 4/5. A relatively new upscale Indian cuisine restaurant, we saw good reviews and decided to try a lunch date here. The inside does have a fine dining atmosphere, the GM and hostess seated us at a booth & gave us our menus. We both ordered their Lunch Thali specials - one with goat and one with lamb. Each came with an appetizer, dessert, salad, salty pickled veggies, veg curries, yogurt and soup and another curry. My favorites were the chicken 65 appetizer and their sweet dry bread nutty dessert (I tried asking for the name and could not understand and it wasn't on their menu, sorry). The mango lassi was good and their specialty fresh lime soda was interesting but personally, I wouldn't order again as it smelled like sewer to me that day. I really like the feel of this restaurant. It is located around a ton of other restaurants, but it really stuck out to me because of the aesthetic. I got the butter chicken and also the samosas. I really enjoyed the Samosa. It has such great flavor and I wish the order came with More. For some reason, I did not really enjoy the flavor of the butter chicken. I believe this could've just been me. The people in my party enjoyed their meals. I will be back here to try out some other options because they have so many options, which is another thing that I like. I was surprised and thrilled to try their Thali plate. It seems that few Indian restaurants offer this these days. I liked most everything. Of course the problem is that the items you love are smaller than what the actual dish would be, but allows a nice sampling. The presentation was beautiful. My wife ordered a chicken dish and they were happy to accommodate gluten free requests. AND the staff were all incredibly kind and happy to do whatever they could for us. The food came out fast, was hot and delicious. Really good food and great staff and the prices for lunch were very good. After a long day takeout was in order. Black Salt had appeared in some of the STL foodie Instagram reels, so I was excited to try this out. Started with a kale, guava and avocado salad. It had so much flavor with sliced pear and onion. Next up was the tandoori murgh with rosemary naan. The chicken was so tender and the yogurt marinade with the spice was so good. On the search for the best Indian restaurant in St. Louis. This place has potential but it is still a bit newer and I think after time, it'll be excellent. I ordered an appetizer of cauliflower (can't remember correct name on menu) which was very tasty! The naan bread was also a hit. I was not totally sold on the butter chicken and the chicken tikka. It was not my favorite. The servers were very friendly and checked on us a few times. This place is in a good location if you are local and would be a good date night. New upscale Indian restaurant that recently opened in Chesterfield. It is a very small place and it is super busy even on a Sunday evening. The staff did their best to accommodate everyone. Looks like they take reservations - might look into that next time. My favorite thing here was the Mango Palak Chaat! This was superb and unlike anything I've ever had! It was so interesting and unique, I'm not even sure how to describe it. The dish came out like a colorful salad packed full of flavors and texture. The spinach was fried so the leaves were crunchy. It was topped with mango and red onion, among many other toppings, giving it a sweet and savory profile. It also had a bit of heat to it, I believe coming from the red sprinkles on top (maybe chili powder or red pepper?). For dinner, I ordered the chicken tikka masala. This dish was good, but had a different flavor than I'm used to from other Indian restaurants. The chicken was probably the most moist chicken I've ever had at any restaurant - fabulous! They also included green peppers and onions in the sauce, which was atypical for tikka masala that I've gotten before. They served 1 bowl of rice for the table to be split between my dish and my husband's dish. Not quite enough rice. We also ordered the rosemary naan bread. Our dishes came out in a timely fashion as well even though we were a large group giving multiple cocktail orders and food requests. My favorites of the evening was the tender lamb chops appetizer, gobi lasuni (Indo Chinese style cauliflower), creamy butter chicken, truffle and chili naan and chicken chettinad (order this spicy). Kadhai paneer, goat biryani and jhinga dum masala (shrimp curry) were good as well. Special shout-out to the refreshing mango lassi and the pillowy naan packed with garlic. I have been eager to visit this spot. I grabbed a few friends and stopped in for lunch. The space has a fresh vibe with black and gold accents. There about 10-12 tables and a small bar counter for seating. The team was welcoming, friendly, and attentive. The menu is fairly large with vegetarian and non vegetarian options that are clearly listed. I decided to go with the Executive lunch special which has a base price of $12.99 at this time. This includes entree, rice, mini Punjabi samosas, and mixed greens. Roti and naan are available for an extra $2. I am still navigating the subtleties of Indian cuisine and usually stick to familiar favorites. But today I was feeling adventurous and jumped right out of my comfort zone. The samosa chaat was a new dish to me. I've posted a pic for reference. This was a flavorful dish of garbanzo beans. The flavors worked so well together. I'm looking forward to having this again soon. For my meal I went with the lamb stew. I have only eaten lamb maybe once or twice. The lamb stew is simmered in coconut milk with curry leaves. I figured it was worth a shot and I was not disappointed!!! The naan is crisp and buttery. The mini samosa were small but had all the right textures and flavors. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit here. We came early before the rest of our group and sat at the bar which consisted of three stools. Cocktail choices were fine. The signature cocktail is not to be missed! Made reservations for an early dinner with my father and it was wonderful. There were several items including bread items and lamb chops that we were unable to try due to one of the chefs being out sick so we look forward to going back to try those additional items. It's quaint and smaller which would be fantastic for a date. The cocktails we had were incredible and I could go there and sit and just have a few of those. The bar has 3 seats so that would be difficult but again, you could go up with a date and get a before or after dinner drink there as well. I happened to overhear 4 different individuals tell them their drinks were some of the best they have ever had. The gentleman who took our order took the time to explain some of the northern Indian dishes I had not heard of before. They have some of the standards but also some really different items.
