I was at a meet and greet last week with my daughter at a local park meeting her Fall soccer coach and team players and I accidentally crossed paths with a distant friend. Somehow we got on a barber subject and Maria was mentioned and was made aware that she had branched out and opened her own barber shop. I didn't know this being that I was still a customer at old location where she was a business partner. I guess it was perfect timing considering my barber had moved on and I really didn't have a favorite. Receiving word that Maria was in business and nearby, I felt obligated to drop in. I've known Maria for at least 3 years and she always filled in for my barber who was either too busy or off for the day. With that said, we both built a customer/barber relationship on a first name basis and being in this business built on clientele, she never suggested that I switch barbers and I continued with my barber. That meant a lot and she demonstrated loyalty to her fellow barbers and clients. Fast forward, I Yelped business and was relieved to see her name mentioned in reviews and then I looked at hours of business from 9AM to 7PM. That was music to my ears knowing that sometimes I push the limit at arriving in a timely manner when most barber shops close at 6. I walked in to find 6 comfortable chairs all perfectly lined up with Maria of course first in line with a client. I said my hello and said it was easy to find you after one year LOL. Her client was also talkative and the three of us joked for a bit and I allowed her daughter to cut my hair or what's left of it. Maria has done great things with location and scored on a existing business and of course doing a major remodel project was all part of taking over a business that has been around for over 30 years in the community. She showed me pictures and you can only imagine it had that 70's décor. The business is very much alive and she employs a portion of senior barbers employed under previous ownership who decided to stay to remain loyal to clientele. Maria is doing her part to promote her business via social media outlets and alike. This is a full barber shop employing old school technique and providing quality cuts and affordable savings most importantly. Expect to find all your cuts, shaves, flat tops, children cuts and styles. Shampoo service available upon request. The décor is very bright employing whites, greys and black to add contrast. Walls are decorated with NFL decorations, full magazine rack, comfortable chairs with armrests and flat screens to keep you busy passing time. Restroom, coatrack, coffee and air conditioning at your convenience. Located north of Foothill blvd and south of the 210 freeway in a shopping center that caters to residences. I don't mind someone learning, but I did find it unprofessional when my barber smoked a golden, oval-shaped weed vape twice. Once at the start when he offered me a hit, and then another rip once I told him what I wanted, to "activate my creativity". The cut was actually going well after he repeated back to me exactly what I wanted and I was hyped with them. There were some longer strands of hair I had him separate in the front to have two longer strands I could manipulate with my hairstyle but at some point in the creative process the two strands that were separated and crucial to the look I was going for were mixed in with the rest of my hair and those longer strands disappeared,; hair that I'd grown to the tip of my nose was chopped to the top of my brow. I actually hadn't even noticed until after I went home to wash my hair because they put gel product in it, which I hadn't asked for but thought it was for a before and after pic so I let it slide, but I was already feeling very uncomfortable and wanted to leave to wash it off immediately at home after I had told him in the beginning that I only used natural products to style it!. And he confirmed by saying "oh, so you only use natural products to style it? " As it came out, yeah I could say it looked good but missing the signature I was hoping for The saving grace was being able to come back to adjust it again the next day but again they put product in my hair that I did not ask for or approve, this time it was a texture powder. Product hides the details I was looking for to realize I wasn't satisfied with the cut before I left. You get what you pay for rings true, but there should at least be a standard of not being under the influence when still in a learning position.
