Love this place. I wish I got pictures of my food, but we had a few cocktails before getting food and very quickly devoured it. They have a self-serve wine counter which is very fun. I didn't take advantage at my most recent visit, but I have in the past. Always have a great selection. My husband and I sat at the bar, which is full-service. The friendly bartender working really hard on a Saturday night took our orders - we got the pancake-battered cheese curds, a Nashville hot chicken sandwich, and a Black Sheep Burger. Shortly after he took our order, he told us that there was a large group that ordered right before us so our food would take longer than normal to get to us. I appreciated him telling us and neither of us minded because we had both our drinks and good conversation flowing. Eventually, our food got to us. It did take a while, which was no surprise or problem because we were informed already. HOWEVER, as a thanks for waiting a little longer, they included an on-the-house order of Ceasar Fried Brussels Sprouts! The Nashville hot chicken sandwich was delicious. Sometimes, restaurants say things are spicy and then don't deliver on flavor. Black Sheep does. It was spicy, crispy, and flavorful. My husband obviously enjoyed the burger, because there wasn't anything left at the end of the night. The Brussels sprouts were absolutely delicious, and the Caesar was a fun twist. I'd order these off their menu next time. The only disappointment was the cheese curds. Maybe they were trying to get the food to us faster, but they seemed a little underdone. Besides that, they were more sweet than salty, which was unexpected and not entirely pleasant to my palate. Overall, I love black sheep. It was ok. I wish that I could say I loved it, but I found it to be merely adequate. The big plus was that there was no wait for brunch at noon on a weekend. I ordered the avocado toast, but it didn't come with eggs. You had to order then separately - $4 for 3 eggs. Unusual pricing. They tried to make the dish more appealing by adding sliced radish and greens but the avocado itself was unseasoned and so were the toppings. The toast was more blackened than toasted, but still edible. I don't care about how a dish looks, but I want it to taste good. I will give this restaurant another chance because it was convenient and I believe in second chances, but the prices were rather high to make it a regular destination. read more

We tried this place for the first time today thanks to the City Tins and really liked it. Brunch on Saturdays and Sundays, 11-3. There is a polenta V option on the menu, but I asked to have the "white sheep" (eggs, toast, potatoes) without bacon and it was no problem. Big, hearty portions. Not sure why they'd schedule this during Summerfest when Walker's Point is busy and rife with foot traffic. Day 2- arrived around 2:30 p.m. Server didn't get to us until 2:54 p.m. at which time we were told we could only order boards and salads because the kitchen had just closed up brunch (goes until 3 p.m.) and was prepping for the dinner hour starting at 4 p.m. Beer cheese sauce used to be delicious (I often ordered the mac 'n cheese), but has become thin and bland. Not sure if they changed the recipe or if the cook is afraid of seasoning, but my once favorite dish is now meh. read more

Of the cross section of people I've come here with, everyone seems pleased. Okay... So I will split this review into two parts. The wine and the food THE WINE IS phenomenal. A bit on the expensive side, but high quality wine is what you are getting. "I have heard amazing reviews of this place. How could they have bad food." After my meal I had the same thoughts. So lets start at the beginning. I went here on a date and realized early on that the guy and the food would not cut it. Both had great potential in the beginning but fell flat in the end. I apologize but I do not remember the name of the meal that I got, but it essentially was duck with potatoes and goodness (supposed to be goodness). With the first bite I knew that I couldn't finish the meal. Duck in itself is extremely salty. Please do not add more salt to the dish. You make it inedible. Which is exactly what happened. I am not the type of customer that sends food back, but I wish I would have been that type of girl that day. I also didn't want my date to feel that he made a mistake in taking me to this restaurant (I already knew I was going to have to decline a second date the next day. No need in rubbing his nose in it). Maybe one day I will make it back to Black Sheep MKE. But since there are so many great restaurants in Milwaukee that I would like to try.... it may take a while. I had a good night in Walkers Point and we darted to Black Sheep before the kitchen closed. I will say the trip wasnt the best. It was a 78 degree night in May which was excellent and the patio looked like the likely seating place for us. The waiter was the best thing about the night. I joked and said that he looked like Johnny Deep with a thick Spanish accent. So for the night he was Jack Sparrow dont tell him I said that, well you can tell him. The food and drinks took some time to come out and that was a little disturbing considering it was nearing the time the kitchen closed and not a lot of people were there at the time. We ordered the cheese curds, the chicken, a drink and some fries. Everything was very subpar except the cheese curds which were excellent. The chicken was not good. I couldnt identify what part of the chicken it was. It was this greyish dark brown color. I didnt want to eat it. I tasted it and it wasnt good. It was coated in some sort of bread crumbs. The problem with deep frying bread crumbs is that if the grease isnt fresh they absorb other tastes and the bread crumbs burn quickly. Not a good choice, instantly I felt sick.There is no way to justify dark brownish grey chicken. I have never went to popeyes or KFC and got some chicken that wasnt the color of beyonce. Im just saying! The inside is pretty cool even though the bathroom was pretty icky. The patio is a really nice addition. Black Sheep is a really cool restaurant, the interior is beautiful and really cozy. I was excited to check it out after finding out they had a City Tin! They have an amazing patio and big windows in the front of the restaurant. There is a lot of bar seating and the restaurant itself is a really good size. I think I went here on the best day possible -- their special of the day were mini cocktail flights. WOW!! You got 4 mini cocktails for only $10. I was able to try the Sangria, Hibiscus Margarita, Pecan Sour and Jerry's Mule. All were delicious! I am unsure if they typically do this cocktail flight, but for everyone's sake I really hope they do. To snack on, I had the humus and the pancake battered cheese curds. I loved that the curds came with maple syrup. At first I was a bit skeptical, but they really delivered. I am excited to go back and try more items on the menu. Wife and I went to Black Sheep for our anniversary. This placed nailed the right way to handle the current issue of the pandemic. Every part was thought out, down to having buzzers for wait staff to make sure they were not roaming around. I went for Sunday brunch and had a nice experience. It's an hip cool vibe with a large bar and stylish tables and chairs. I sampled some beer and wine. They have a wine dispenser that you will be issues a card and dispense what you want in either sample/half glass/full glass pours. If I recall they have about 6-8 of both white and reds to select from and pricing is displayed on the machine (it's not cheap but...it's fun!). Hailey was our server. She was great First glance at the menu at it seemed standard except the lb of bacon to share. The the pancake batter cheese curds came Fluffy batter and melty cheese signaled good things to come I had the breakfast tacos. Ive given up on breakfast tacos because they're usually boring. These were far from it. The chorizo was phenomenal as was every other ingredient. Let's talk about the Hollandaise that tagged along. I worked in one of the better French restaurants in the country, 3 Stars Michelin. The taco hollandaise was right up there. The only drawback was the hollandaise flavor almost overwhelmed the amazing tacos. So I proceeded to dip everything else in the hollandaise French fries. Home fries. Tortilla ends Bacon. My fingers. All went in there. The French fries were phenomenal on their own. I'm not a big home fry fan but those surpassed the Mark for exceptional tates And fresh juices for the cocktails. That makes all of the difference. Everyone else's food was great. They didn't offer to share but I'm bigger then them It was worth losing their trust. I just took their food. I have no regrets. My first time and first thoughts of this place are that it really isn't made for people that have disabilities or older in age because they have stairs for bar and seating and the other is what they call the cellar downstairs seating. My other thing was going up to the hostess right away you feel the heat in the place like they never put the air on . I took my mom out for lunch and unfortunately we had to reserve a cellar downstairs table because that's all that was available. My mom is the one with the stairs problem but she said she might be ok because thankfully there was a 2 sided railing. So small plus. But being downstairs in a basically small area basement we were still very warm go figure. We got seated pretty fast but we sat for a good amount of time before anyone helped us. We needed water. Finally a lady asked if we had been helped and received waters and ordered. Disappointed that it said on website everyday $5 sangria but didn't have time restrictions or the fact it says everyday. Waitress said not on Sundays but its only $7 so ok fine I got it a couple more bucks. (Check said$8). Anyway food I had the croque madame with half cut egg why I don't know but it had shredded ham in it mustard and cheese. Wish it had more creamy sauce a little dry for me and egg was a little over easy instead of should spill out and drench the sandwich and didn't and also breakfast potatoes that were crunchy and salty and soft in the middle I should have asked for cholula,cheese and sour cream that might have helped everything ampt up a little. Mom had the risotto she thoroughly enjoyed the creamy rice with the egg on top and veggies. For our wait we had the waitress was kind to offer their pancake battered cheese curds with syrup. I would have never thought to use syrup with these but the cheese curds were great sweet salty with powdered sugar melted cheeses and dip into a hint of syrup the pancake batter was good and crunchy little bit of sweet. I'm kind of mixed about Black Sheep. First the positives: They did a beautiful job in redoing the space and decorating. The art is quirky and makes for some good conversation. The service was friendly and helpful with explaining their menu. They have Happy a Hour on Saturday.....Yay! Great specials on food and drinks. The food is where improvements could be made, but don't do anything to the cheese curds. The curds remind me of mini grilled cheese, we definitely will be back for those. For a place that features "haute" hot dogs, I am surprised these are not made from scratch in their kitchens. We tried the shrimp po boy and the Kim Jong-Il hot dogs. The flavors were decent, nothing memorable though, but the bun just Overwhelmed the entire hot dog. I think if they are going to go the hot dog route they need to start making their own hot dogs and get some better buns. Maybe take a look at what Hot Doug's in Chicago is doing with their dogs. Or....maybe go a different direction when it comes to the menu, the current menu just doesn't fit the design and decor of the space. I wish I could move in here. It feels like you're walking into someone's huge, awesome living room/bar. My friend is a regular, so maybe we were treated better than most, but we had such a good time. I had a couple wines by the glass, which led to a couple shots and then we needed to have some food, so we ordered the hot dog with pate and the chips. To be completely honest, I don't remember a ton about the hot dog, but I think they're made in-house. We split the dog, so it was still enough for a hungry drunk gal and I wasn't hungover the next day, so I guess it's a magical unicorn dog. Eclectic crowd and awesome pics in the bathroom. This is a neat spot with some good food. I got the Nashville chicken sandwich and it was tasty but was very greasy - it wasn't very hot (spicy) at all. We got some craft beers (they had a pretty good selection), but the cocktails were $14... so we decided to stick with the beers. We went on a weeknight, and did not have a reservation, so we waited about 30 minutes before being seated at the bar. Black sheep is a chic, tucked away little brunch spot in the upcoming area of Walker's Point. I have been here a couple times and yet to be disappointed. While the service leaves a little to be desired, the Bloody Mary was GREAT. Although I do like more assortment of snacks on top. They have $25 mimosa service at brunch which is why most people go to brunch- a win there. Their croque Madame was GREAT. The sausage and biscuits were yum, but don't let the breakfast potatoes be a dealbreaker- as a potato connoisseur ,trust me, you really won't miss them. read more

First off their covid rules are wonky. We had to press the button for our server. The menu was a bar code and you get kicked out after 1.5 hrs even if their service is why you were there so long. Anyways the apps were so yummy we got a ton and were loving it. Where everything went wrong was the entrees. Interesting spot we visited while in Milwaukee on business. We read about their extensive wines by the glass and cool vibe so decided to give it a try. The menu was very "casual" - haute dogs and sandwiches, sloppy joes, macaroni & cheese etc. We had a Wooster dog which is an Usinger beef hot dog topped with fig jam and arugula - it was really delicious. We also had mac and cheese - SO rich and delicious and the hummus. The music in the background was classic rock, great service, great wines by the glass and bar menu. Came to Black Sheep for drinks with a friend. I've driven by many times, but hadn't stopped in yet. The inside ambiance can best be described as "industrial-chic". It's fun, and a bit different than some of the other places in the area. We sat at the bar and were promptly served. I had a cocktail called "The Jam". This was basically a gin-based cocktail that, indeed, tasted like alcoholic jam (quite good). My friend had a cocktail flight (!) of 4 different inventive cocktails in mini glasses each. It was a very fun, creative way to experience a lot of their very creative cocktails. More places should do this. Our total bill came out to ~$23, which was excellent for what we had. I would say that the cocktails were good, not great. None of them, except for possibly The Jam, were very memorable, but we still enjoyed our experience. Dang, the food is fantastic! We got the poutine which we could not stop eating, and the size was very large and easy to share between multiple people. My friend and I actually decided to share meal following this because we got so full from it. We got the breakfast sandwich and got fruit on the side instead of potatoes since the poutine had potatoes. The fruit was very fresh and the sandwich was delicious. It comes on a bagel and the cheese on it is . Other positives are that the mimosas are huge and the decor is very unique, which is fun. The downfall is the service!!! Wow. We were seated at the bar and were asked for our drink order fairly quickly but we waited a long time for our food order to be taken, and we had to stop a worker to ask if we could order. When we asked, she told us to hold on and then her and the other 3 behind the bar took a shot together. Very unprofessional. I don't mind them taking the shot, but when your customer asks to have their food order taken because it's been a very long time of you sitting there, and THEN you make them wait so that you can take a shot, that's unacceptable. We were also told we would have multiple things delivered to us, such as more water and a knife so we could cut the sandwich in half, but these things never came. Additionally, the bills were all mixed up so we ended up not even bothering asking for them to fix it and just sent each other money afterwards. Such a disappointment since the food was so good! This place is located in the Fifth Ward and you won't miss it because of the Black Sheep Mural on the side of the brick building! I will say, I came here on a sunny day so we sat outside. I'm so glad we stumbled upon this place! We were looking for a brunch spot, and of course we didn't plan ahead so we knew wherever we went there was going to be a long wait. Cute ambiance. Inconsistent food. Poor service. I visited from Chicago and heard about the cheese curds here so I tried them out and they were amazing! The pancake batter and the melty stringy cheese was so memorable that I brought my fiancé back the weekend after. The inconsistency one week apart was so unbelievable. The cheese was entirely different - yellow instead of white like I got the first time, and it was hard, not pull-apart stringy at all. It was like a completely different dish. I asked one of the waitresses about it and she said "oh yeah I think it's usually white, I can check" and then never came back. Our waiter was pretty short with us also and didn't really check on us or refill our waters/coffee until we had to wave him down to ask. First, I have never had to pay for a reservation. $25 and coming off the covid pandemic this is wild. We got there at 710 we weren't seated until 730. Ordered a cocktail it was called the tiki, it was so sugary there was no acidity or bitters I couldn't drink it. When we got seated we ordered within 5 minutes. Our food took 40 minutes to arrive. Two pasta dishes. The homemade pasta was less than desirable chewy, dense and gummy. It felt like I was eating half hardened play dough.
