One of my new favorite breakfast spots I've been wanting to try Black Star for the longest, and now that I finally have... baby, I haven't been disappointed yet. The first time I ordered, I got breakfast for me and my mom. We both got one of the breakfast plates, and it came with eggs cooked your way, a side salad with avocado, fresh berries, and toast. You also get to choose what kind of toast you want, which I always appreciate. Everything was fresh, light, and just really good. Now let's talk about the coffee. Y'all know I love me an iced cappuccino. I got the iced lavender cappuccino, and it was so good. My mom loved her coffee too. They definitely know what they're doing when it comes to coffee. Today I decided to switch it up because I'd been wanting to try a few more things on the menu. I ordered the yogurt bowl, which came with fresh berries, honey, and almond halves, and it was exactly what I was hoping for. Then I got the avocado toast. Baby... Y'all already know I love a good avocado toast. The bread was nice and sturdy, so it actually held up to all the toppings without getting soggy. It came with feta, microgreens, and cherry tomatoes, and everything worked together perfectly. Delicious. I also grabbed an iced apple cider with cinnamon for later, and I'm already excited about that. One thing I really appreciate is how well they package everything for delivery. Nothing is thrown together. Your food stays warm, everything arrives looking the way it's supposed to, and it still feels fresh when you open it. That attention to detail really goes a long way. Honestly, Black Star has quickly become one of my new favorite breakfast spots. The menu has so many things I still want to try, the food is consistently fresh, and it's one of those places that makes eating a little healthier feel easy instead of boring. Small bakery and cafe with a few tables good for parties of two. Got breakfast here before work. But definitely very expensive compared to the deli next door. You're spending at least $15 for a breakfast entree. But at least the food was very good. I ordered the #2 Avocado toast and it was delicious! I came here today (Tuesday) around 11:15, I order a large strawberry iced matcha with lite ice and almond milk, and the breakfast burrito in a whole wheat wrap. The cafe was pretty full inside but the patio out back was relatively empty, overall I could see this place getting busy but they do have a lot of seating. There was a sign that said no laptops at the tables which seems unfortunate cause this would be a great place to work for an hour or two. There were lots of staff and everything was kept really clean, seemed like a really great place to take kids, they had lots of different things set up just for children. There was lots of staff and everyone seemed nice but busy. The pastry's didn't look as tempting as I had hoped, however my matcha was really good and did in fact taste like strawberry once I was able to mix it up. The breakfast burrito was also really good, just beware there is a kick from the Sriracha mayo. I ended up waiting about 5-10 minutes to get my food so also very quick. Maybe I'm not a coffee shop girly and I need to be converted to one but I was not the biggest fan of this place unfortunately. Although everything was very cute and nice, the food and drinks were also extremely expensive. For 2 items I paid around $17 which is a little insane if you ask me. The line did go by very quickly and all the service people were very nice. - Smoked Salmon Croissant Sandwich - This was surprisingly very filling. The croissant was very crispy which I liked. I thought everything in the sandwich actually went very well together and I liked how the cream cheese was not very overwhelming and very fresh. - Matcha Iced Latte - I'm not going to lie, this was a bit disappointing. The matcha flavor seemed very watered down and the milk flavor didn't really come through. I did appreciate that I told them I only wanted 4 ice cubes and they really only gave me 4 ice cubes. My favorite is the scrambled eggs plate which comes with eggs, your choice of bread, salad, and fruit. The yogurt bowl was not worth the price for the size. My biggest complaint is how they no longer allow dogs. I'd bring my dog there very frequently if I was grabbing a quick coffee on our walk or a weekend breakfast. I've had Black Star Bakery & Cafe on my list to try for a while and finally popped in today as I was walking by and craving a drink. The case of pastries looked scrumptious! We ordered a matcha lemonade and a dirty chai. I have never had a matcha lemonade before but it was the perfect balance of sweet and earthy! I already can't wait to get another. My boyfriend liked the dirty chai and as we were leaving someone walked in and said it's their favorite place for chai, so that was a great endorsement to hear after ordering it! There is no WiFi and laptops aren't allowed at the tables- just at the two stools at the front bar. I was pleasantly surprised that they had an outdoor area in the back as well, but didn't have time to check that out. Im excited to go back and try more things! read more

Black Star Cafe has some fantastic drinks and honestly just a great vibe and aesthetic to come by and hang out or just grab and go. Their dirty chai, matcha lemonade, Cappucino and much more are just really solid drinks! The only thing I am not a super fan of is their drip, it's really really dark and bitter. They have a lot of baked good from behind the counter to pair with you coffee if that is what you are looking for. It's so cute with tables in the front and an amazing outside patio! I snagged a great cold brew and za'atar croissant one Monday morning. I was very enticed by the breakfast sandwiches, but I was in a rush, and the line was quite busy. I was kind of surprised people were calling in orders. It made everything go a lot slower, it seemed (though maybe that was particularly painful because I was already in a rush). There's an outside patio but also plenty of seating in the street under a covered area. There's also a pleasant bench right in the front. Lots of pastries to choose from and some unique combinations. It was a beautiful day today to sit outside. I purchased a Spinach Ricotta Danish $4.30 with tax. It was so delicious I'm sure I will get it again. The line gets long but it moves quickly. I LOVE BREAKFAST SANDWICHES. And Black Star delivered on it. I got myself a croissant egg, prosciutto, and cheese sandwich. The sandwich itself was disappointingly small, but maybe it only felt that way because it was so good. The croissant was so flaky and warm and filled my breakfast sandwich heart. I also ordered the chai tea latte, which was one of the tastiest I've ever had. I will say that it was somewhat thicker than a usual latte. That, combined with the fact that extra cinnamon was added to it, made it seem more like a dessert than a drink. BUT it was a very good one and I'd literally go back just to get it. They also had a huge variety of pastries. We tried three of them- the strawberry donut hole, chocolate rugelach, and everything croissant. All of them seemed fresh, and the croissant was flaky even when we ate it hours later. What I will say is that my aunt and I ate here in person. The music in the cafe was insanely loud-- so loud that we couldn't hear each other speak. The menu placement was also a bit strange in that it was there when we walked in, then the cashier was a bit away from the menu. I...do not have a good memory. I think about what I want to get and then as soon as it's my turn to order, I immediately forget. So the issue here was that because each item had a long and/or special name, it was hard for me to remember what I had wanted to get. I'd love if there were a mini menu right in front of the cashier so I could look down to remind myself what I wanted. This is a really nice neighborhood spot for breakfast, sweet or savory. coffee is excellent and the servers very friendly. However, it is a dog magnet. Customers bring their dogs into the store. At any given time. there are at least two dogs with their owners at tables while an almost steady flow of customers come and go with their dogs. This is a food establishment and it is unsanitary for there to be all these dogs and quite off putting. Not one was a service dog. Signage should be posted prominently on the front door about restricting access for dogs. Of course. there will be folks who will just ignore it, but it might help reduce the flow of dog traffic. read more

They are dog friendly as well. I tried the chai latte and it was so good. They do have options for non-dairy milks. Also they did have other options for food aside from baked goods. I love this local bakery! This location is on Yorkville, which is a blessing because it still gets so packed even though it's location is so far up and east. There are so many delicious pastries here! You definitely have to get something. I have tried their muffins and croissants, both of which have been pretty good especially when warmed up. My favorite cafe/bakery in the UES! The place was very cute with a patio at the back. Their staffs were also very nice and friendly! Even though there was not a lot of kitchen space, they managed to make their baked goods on the spot and hence they are all freshly made! Other than regular dairy milk, they also have vegan milk at the self serve station which is something that I don't normally see! All their baked goods are also buy one get one free when it's closed to closing time. The only thing that I wish is that they will have wifi!
