I hate leaving negative reviews, especially for small businesses, but also wouldn't want someone else to waste their money. We arrived shortly after they opened for lunch on a Saturday, doors open,lights on, and not a soul in sight. We hung around until someone appeared from the back and sat us. The staff were friendly and the bus boy was great. The server, a young man with blonde hair, was friendly if inattentive but I can't blame him as we were the only customers seated. The food was...not good. We ordered the appetizer sampler and the wings were pretty good as were the onion strings and ribs. The fried green tomatoes were flavorless and...well, not green. The dipping sauce tasted like tartar sauce with cinnamon mixed in and was as offensive tasting as you can imagine. The pulled pork sliders were good and my husband compared them to a McRib. I had the shrimp po boy which was large in size and the shrimp were fine as were the fries. My lettuce was wilty, the tomato wasn't ripe (which considering they're in season is inexcusable) and pale orange, and the pickle tasted old and leathery. My husband got the jumboliya and said it was alright. Ate about half and left the rest as it was all rice. Will we be back? No. Most of the items are fried and the fresh items like the vegetables were definitely past their prime. With so many great food options in the area to choose from, we won't be returning. read more

Love Cajun food and had to check out Blackbirds and was not disappointed. Warmly greeted by our server Kelly who also made some exact recommendations particularly with the Southern fried chicken dish. Stuck with the southern theme (being from Louisiana) and was pleasantly surprised with the choices, The fried chicken did have a 40 minute wait ( which we were informed when we received the menus) but worth the wait, Chicken was moist with a thick Cajun seasoning skin. Their jambalaya was well portioned with chicken, andouille sausage and shrimp on a bed of well seasoned rice. The only disappointment was not receiving our gator bite appetizer ( although it was probably frozen bites as there are no alligators on LI) which was adjusted to our final bill. Overall staff was very attentive ( water glasses were never empty ) and constantly checked on our table. Restaurant has a bar in the center of the restaurant offering additional seating. Brought my son here for his 9th birthday--his pick, and he absolutely nailed it! From the moment we walked in, the vibe was on point. Our waitress was incredibly friendly, attentive, and made sure we had everything we needed, which made the whole experience feel easy and fun. The food came out fresh, flavorful, and seriously hit the spot. The music was a total throwback dream--classic oldies rock playing all night. I swear I knew every single song, which made it even more fun! Between the great playlist and the many TVs showing sports, there was always something entertaining going on. They've also got a fantastic selection of drinks and food, and I loved that they offer non-alcoholic beers too--such a great option to have. Closest I've come to being on a kitchen nightmares episode in real life! Appetizers took 45 minutes to come out and when they did they were low quality. Alligator bites might as well have been fried jerky with bland breading, mozzarella sticks came straight from the Walmart freezer aisle. It then took an additional 45 minutes for the entrees to come out and let me tell you... I never thought fried chicken could be bad until I went to Black Bird. I got there a little early and I was waiting for my niece and her partner. I was seated by the hostess at a table. The hostess was very nice and very engaging. The atmosphere of the restaurant was very inviting and alive. It wasn't too loud, but it is a bar in the center of the building With tables all around I did feel that we could talk well at the table. I ordered a house wine and it came out almost immediately. Our waitress was very nice. Sadly I didn't get her name. It was a very busy evening on a Friday. I ordered a Caesar salad, which was excellent With the house wine when my party arrived. We also ordered fried ravioli, which was also excellent, hot rolls and butter were also offered at the table. I ordered pork chops that were very well roasted and had a great sauce on top with mashed potatoes and fresh vegetables. I will post a picture here my niece ordered a steak sandwich with Gorgonzola cheese and sweet potato fries. She said she enjoyed it very much. Her partner ordered the pasta with a jambalaya sauce. I had lunch here for a friend's 80th birthday. We were part of a large group 20-30 people. There were two servers, Shawn and Sean, both were outstanding. The restaurant was decorated beautifully. The atmosphere was relaxing. There is bar seating and table seating. The bar is centrally located with seating all around. We were in a separate section where they do group seating. Clean place all around. The food all came out hot and delicious, not an easy task for 25 plates. They nailed it. The bread was amazing possible baked in house? Rasted homemade. Very good food in a casual setting. Good, smaller beer selection, I got the Montauk Wave Chaser which is a good summer go-to. My bf got the fried chicken, which he demolished. The breading was yummy, lightly spiced and very crusty. I got the lobster roll, which is MP. Very much worth the price for the amount of lobster you get. I'd like to come back and try some of their Cajun dishes when I'm next in the area. I see a few complaints about hours and such. Walked in on a Saturday night approximately 8pm to a very busy and extremely loud establishment . To the right is a small dining area occupied by mostly families with children. In the middle is a large wrap around bar and to the left is a small open dining area very close to the bar. It was decorated nicely for Autumn and there was an attractive fireplace but the view was obstructed by a table positioned to close. We sat to the left with a full view of bar and large screen Tvs. Staff was very welcoming and friendly but some worked much harder than others. Our server was lovely and polite but she would disappear and hang out chatting by the bar. All the workers were very young and I didn't notice a manager. To put it mildly service was terrible. Now about the meal. We ordered chicken wings and salad. I made it very clear that we wanted wings extra well done but we got the complete opposite, underdone. I didn't complain just had them wrapped up to go so my son can put them in the oven to be cooked the right way. Salad was pretty good but not worth $13. Bread basket was just delivered but should have been placed on table prior to appetizers. Bread was delicious. I ordered the Seafood combo. Fish was good but the rest was mediocre, to much bread crumbs and served luke warm. I realized when I got home that they forget to include my rice. Husband ordered chicken Parmigiana with spaghetti, said the sauce was good but the chicken was overcooked. Prices are to high for the poor food quality, service and type of bar/ restaurant this is. We had to ask for water refills. Cocktails were done right. We were so disappointed and to top it off there was a bunch of knuckleheads at the bar area shouting back and forth and cursing non stop. I'm not a prude, everone deserves to have a good time but have some class and respect others! Beware- Keep children away from the bar! Absolutely loved the sliced filet mignon steak sandwich. I ordered medium rare w/American cheese. Cooked to perfection w/carmelized onions & sauteed mushrooms with crispy dusted fries ( cornmeal?). An ice cold Peroni to wash it down. Wife loved her rabbit food (salad). Nice that salads come in two sizes b/c she usually gets too much or too little. Small was just right. Service was excellent! Really friendly, helpful & available. I like that they check in with you from time to time, not overwhelming so. The drinks were good and ordered a steak sandwich (medium) and a jambalaya. The jambalaya was good but that steak sandwich with fries was awesome. There were also some (I believe complimentary) bread that was fresh and warm for the table. The food did take a hot minute to come out but it was worth it. Also ordered a hot brownie with ice cream - which was tasty as well. The whole meal came out to about 45$ per person without tip which is around about what you're going to be paying for restaurants with drinks and desserts - so pretty reasonably priced. I plan to eat in the restaurant soon and enjoy something else from the regular menu. It seems like a very busy place and the patrons are nice. It was good. I can't say it was amazing or anything, but we enjoyed what we ate and liked the atmosphere. We started with beer (I had a Guinness) and fried pickles. My husband and I both really thought the fried pickles were excellent and it made us excited for the dinner we had ordered. Our "meat platter for two" arrived and we dug right in. The filet mignon was outstanding... perfect flavor and tenderness, cooked to perfection... and the highlight of the dish. I never had duck before and thought that was very tasty, and different than I expected - but enjoyable. The ribs fell off the bones and the flavor was good, though a tad overpowering. The fried chicken was okay, it was really my least favorite meat on the plate - a bit bland really. The side dishes that came with the meal barely felt like they were "for two" but did the job. I wasn't a fan of the veggies but my husband liked them. The mashed potatoes were good. Overall, we liked the food and the service was great. The waitress was very friendly and didn't make us wait long for anything. The bus boy was also super pleasant and friendly. I liked the "bar and grill" vibe of the place, with rustic decor and cozy ambience. We'd definitely go back. It wasn't the best food around, but it was an overall solid performance. Came here with my aunt for a quiet dinner. Great food, small intimate atmosphere. Menu items were unique and well-prepared. Service was quick and our waitress was very sweet. Ordered mudbug boil and coconut shrimp (one of the appetizer specials that night) for apps, the jambalaya & seafood combo for entrees, and apple and peanut butter pie for dessert. I've driven past this restaurant a few times, and I've always noticed they had a lot cars in the lot. I figured it had to be good so I have it a try for dinner. They have ample seating, and they have a cool square bar which had a lot of people enjoying dinner and drinks when we walked in. They also have a small outdoor seating area, that is on Broadway (so it's not on the busier Montauk Highway side) I went with my father, and for apps we had Gator Bites and Fried Pickles. Both of them were very good. I've never had Gator Bites before, but I would definitely have them again! I had gotten their grilled chicken sandwich on a wrap, and my father had the Fried Chicken dish that came with Mac n cheese, garlic mashed potatoes and corn bread.
