First time trying Portuguese food! Never had Portuguese food before much less petiscos which is basically tapas. The food is very similar to Spanish tapas. The flavor profile is slightly different but I could barely notice since I'm not so familiar with the cuisine. Food: Lingicua- dope presentation. It arrives on fire to your table. Pretty cool and the taste is good but ultimately it's just a sausage. Class streamed in white wine/garlic- really tasty. I really enjoyed this dish. It has a very similar profile to other clam/mussels in white wine dishes so I dunno if you necessarily hafta try it here but it was good. Octopus- was also really good but I wouldn't say any better or worse at other places over had octopus Duck rice- this was just ok. Duck was a lil dry. At $45 I wouldn't recommend. The portion is also tiny. I thought it was gonna be like a big paella or something. Overall everything was solid/tasty. Cocktails were surprisingly good. I'll say the only thing is the value/price. Portions are tiny and some things like the rice are really pricey for the portion that you get so I'd def be aware of that.
Had an excellent experience at Petiscos! The food, service, and ambiance were all outstanding. I ordered the Duck Rice, and it was absolutely delicious, the duck was tender, flavorful, and perfectly complemented by the rice. The service was friendly and attentive, and the ambiance made the whole experience even better. Great spot for a nice meal, and I'll definitely be coming back. Highly recommend the Duck Rice!
Found this cute place in San Jose Downtown, really good for date nights. Food is also very special, Portuguese tapas has a strong character in ingredients choice and flavor. Pig ear salad - cold and crunchy, love the texture, wish there's a bit more acidity Beef tongue - really flavorful, texture of the meat is also really tender Filet mignon - my favorite dish, the acidity of the sauce is really interesting, even ordered extra bread to finish up that sauce Duck rice - pretty good too but not as memorable as other dishes Servers are really nice and welcoming, gave good introductions of the menu, we'll definitely come back and try more stuff!
The food didn't do it for me. And I wanted to like it. Ordered 4 items and they were all so-so. Here's the order in which they arrived. The octopus cold salad. Had a slightly mushy texture. Maybe I should have gotten the roasted octopus instead. Next up Filet Mignon. I can't recall where I used to get steak bites... but this place was way saltier and the filet smaller cut up pieces. (This was judged the best plate of the evening.) The clams were decent but o think the French make better seafood with wine shallots and tomatoes. Not sure what the Portuguese style was... but again taste was just average. The heaviest item was the Francesinha sandwich. Wish I looked up a picture. Two thick pieces of bread, with a piece or two of ham, and a strip of steak inside. Smothered with melted cheese and gravy. And an over fried egg on top. (Not runny.) Came with a side of fries. Usually I can eat and no dishes are left empty. Or maybe will take it home in the rare event of leftovers. Left 1/3 of the sandwiches and some of the clams. I wanted to like this place as I had decent memory of Adegas. But with a total bill out the door, north of $130 ... hard to personally find the value vs the flavors and food wow factor. As Randy from American idol might say, "Yo, dog! It's a no for me. only three stars!"
I've had Petisco's restaurant on my radar for a while and was excited to try it out. I've been to Adega which is their other restaurant and it was incredible. My friends and I ordered the shrimp appetizer, linguica sausage, fish of the day and the seafood rice. Let's just say that my party of three and I were still hungry after eating here. First off, the shrimp appetizer is ridiculously tiny. For $19, I thought the shrimp would be bigger but no, it was the tiniest shrimp I've ever seen. Even the shrimp at Boiling Crab is way much bigger. It might look big in pictures but the portion size and the actual shrimp is tiny tiny tiny. The sauce was good though. The linguica sausage was also $19 and there was nothing special about it. It tastes like the linguica sausage that you can get at Safeway. Both entrees were $49 and oh my god, ridiculously overpriced for what you get. The fish of the day was my favorite dish and the fish was cooked perfectly with a nice crispy outer layer and tender on the inside. The vegetables and the sauce were really good as well. The seafood rice, come on, for $49 I expected it to be loaded with seafood but there was probably only a thumbnail of lobster and maybe a few tiny scallops and the rest of the seafood was hardly there. I don't know if this was risotto or a porridge but it was fine. For a Michelin Bib Gourmand restaurant, I expected much more but the service was just okay and the food was way overpriced.
After spending a week in Lisbon, we wanted more Portuguese cuisines and Petiscos delivered. We ordered the Iberico ham, cheese platter, beef tongue, octopus and duck rice. The ham was succulent and flavorful that combined well with the housemade bread. The tongue was cooked tender yet still had a great texture. The standout dish for the entree was the octopus. Served with side of potatoes and spinach, this dish delivered on flavor, execution and satisfaction. Tender enough to cut with a fork. Last, the duck rice is served in a cast iron dish and has a slight crunch from being fried in the dish. Wished the color was more vibrant but the flavors worked.
We decided to try this spot on a busy Saturday night in San Jose and it didn't disappoint! We arrived half an hour early for our reservation and they were still able to seat us right away. We got the codfish cakes, croquettes, potato soup, cheese bread, and francesinha. The portions for the tapas were definitely small, but very flavorful. Our favorite was actually the cheese bread out of all the tapas. The sauce for the francesinha was also very plentiful and the steak in it really tender. Cocktails were sweet so it really depends what you like, but the flan we got for dessert was also perfection!

The size had not changed; it's still very small. The last time I had it (the $23 version), it was great but super salty.
I took my wife and kids to Petiscos to celebrate my wife's birthday. Honestly, I had previously visited Portugal but didn't care for the food all that much. But since my family had never eaten Portuguese cuisine before and Petiscos has a good reputation I thought it would make for an interesting date night. I was right. The food was great. Even my kids enjoyed it (ages 9 & 5). Of the mains, my favorite was the octopus. At most restaurants, octopus tends to be quite rubbery in texture but that was not the case here. In a blind taste test I would have assumed it was scallops. It was that tender. Of the starters, my favorite was the meat croquettes. They were accompanied by an aioli type of dip which I even used for vegetables. We ordered vegetables on the side and those were excellent as well. Cauliflower and green beans are two vegetables I normally refuse to eat but here, I couldn't get enough of it in addition to the other vegetables served. The service was excellent too. Between each course the staff would wipe the table clean and replace all of the plates and silverware. Overall one of the best meals I've had in awhile.
I think it's a Michelin star restaurant so maybe it's just me because it was ok but I wasn't overly impressed. The service was certainly stellar and the ambiance pleasing. Sort of Portuguese nouveau chic. The food wasn't the level I assumed it'd be. Here's what we had, perhaps you want to try the same or something different. Start with the Pão de Queijo. Delicious and puffy cheese bread. Based on the rest of the food, I had to eat a lot of these. The beef tongue in tomato sauce was the best dish IMO. Tender pieces of tongue in a tangy sauce. Nicky cooked to the right texture. Perhaps a little too lukewarm instead of hot. I can't find it in my menu picture for some reason but the next best dish I think was paella. With mussels and clams. Or maybe it was risotto. It was sort of watery, so maybe... We also had some kind of rice dish with a sausage and a pork belly on top. This one was pretty good. At least it fills you up. But it really needs more meat. Pata Negra fries with fried egg on top was another good one. Very tasty and surprisingly a little spicy. Quite pricey at $34 though. Octopus is always good and theirs was no exception. Cooked just right so good texture and not rubbery. We had the oven roasted version. They also have a cold version. Sautéed veggies were solid. Nothing explicit to describe. Grilled sardines were very bony and not really my thing. Especially what you get for $33. Pigs eat salad was the most, um, interesting. Taste was ok but the texture was odd. Basically cartilage. The last thing was some kind of fried cheese (I think) with an egg on top. I really don't have anything to say about that one. Overall, quite a price tag and overall not my thing. Most dishes are around $20 but climb to upper $30's. But you may love it! I Terri's to take photos of our dishes so you can see for yourself.
Delicious tapas that were all hits! We tried the duck rice (such great flavor and texture), the clams (perfect broth), shrimp and garlic (bright and not heavy handed on the garlic), and green beans tempura style (mmmmm). Recommend them all and wish we had room to try more. I would skip the Pastel de Nata if you've ever had it before as it doesn't have the adequate eggy texture you'd expect and is too one-note in its sweetness.

A Michelin restaurant in Downtown SJ? Ample parking in the area, the interior has quite a bit of seating (no outdoor seating). The staff was helpful and answered all of our questions. A decent enough spot for date night since tapas is smaller portion sizing and would be good for sharing between two people. I went with a larger group so I was able to try more dishes. I think Portuguese food isn't really my preferred palate. The dish I enjoyed the most was the duck rice. Also enjoyed the beef tongue, super tender and paired well with its tomato sauce. I did not enjoy either of the soups I tried (lobster bisque and caldo verde / kale soup). Also didn't really enjoy the codfish casserole. Other dishes I tried that were good: pao de quejo / cheese bread, filet mignon, croquettes. read more

This is our third time here , we came across this place 3 yrs ago when we were out here lookng for a place to eat anddddd" have a drink !! I am a sangría lover so instead of a glass of sangria wine we went with the pitcher which has always been a FULL SIZE pitcher and gives us an instant buzzzzz! And its delicious!! We came back today and they have downsized there pitcher what a bumberrr!! But the price was less so was good !! We always do an appetizer , this time we tried the chile verde soup which was alright!!! The dishes they have are not of our liking , portugues , but when it comes to the sangria ill keep comino back even tho they downsized the pitcher!!!!The place is very nice , the service is great always friendly staff and people !! We got atleast 4 glasses from the pitcher which was perfect for two!! 1 glass is $15 pitcher $30!! I read more
Came in with positive expectations that this place will deliver food similar to Portugal. Unfortunately, the overall dining experience was so-so. We were seated quickly after entering since we had a reservation. On a Friday, on Valentine's Day, the dining if room was at 60% capacity when we were seated. It took a while before someone came to fill our waters and ask us if we had questions about our menu. When we finally ordered, the food was churned out very quickly... pretty much all at once with the exception of Bacalhau à Brás (which came out when the rest of our food was done). So pacing of the meal felt rushed. Food: in general, all the food came out room temperature. This tells me that the food was cooked and was sitting on the counter for a while before it was brought to the table. Not sure why because the restaurant wasn't at full capacity yet. Flavors of each item was good. Vegetables had a good char to them. Beef tongue was tender. Dislikes: The Chouriço was burnt. Since the sausage was already cooked, and the flame was for show, I was surprised to see that the ends of sausage end was blackened when it came out. The Bacalhau à Brás was way too salty. And it came out at the very end of the meal. The rest of our dishes had already cleared. The pastel de nata could be warmed up a touch. That would have made a huge difference. Service: not attentive. I felt like where we sat, it was difficult to get the attention of the server. We asked one server who took our order for dessert, for the check two times. Never brought us the check. Asked another server who cleared our dishes away...we also asked him several times for the check. Overall: a cute place for date night. Food seasoning, temperature of food, and service could improve. read more
Although the service and ambiance was great here, I really did not enjoy the food at all. The three of us started with the cheese bread, but the center of it was a little cold, like it was refrigerated and then heated (but not all the way through). The flavor and texture of the outside were alright though. I ordered the lobster bisque and the waiter warned me that many people think it is very smoky, but I tried it anyway. The smokiness wasn't the issue for me though- it mainly just tasted of shrimp and wasn't creamy and rich like a bisque should be. The flavor wasn't lobster-y at all, and the only reason you'd know it had lobster in it was from the three rubbery pieces of lobster at the bottom of the bowl. Lastly, the steak sandwich. It came with fries which were actually very good. However, the sandwich was just a slab of steak on bread with I believe sliced garlic- the steak wasn't even sliced. The steak was tough and difficult to eat. Overall, I wouldn't come back here, but the staff was very nice and it is a cute restaurant. read more
To set the mood, we were there with 3 other friends of ours who were visiting from out of town and we all agreed to try something new. Ambience: The place is OK from the standpoint of ambience - nothing special. Service: This place had awful service. I will give you an example - I ordered a Mojito at the top of our dinner and then 25 mins later the drink shows up. I would say our server was not that helpful (he was not rude and he was nice). Food: This is where I think the biggest mismatch is from the standpoint of my 3-star rating here vs. a potential 4-star. The price of the meal was exorbitant ($692.04 including tip and taxes). Here is what we ordered Sharables: Three of my friends shared these ---------------------------------------------------------------- - Cheese Bread - Cheese Platter: Good assortment but not great. - Baby Carrots: These were "OK" - Mushroom Rice: This tasted good. - Meat Croquettes: This was the best one out of the bunch - Shrimp Fritters - Scallops - Prawns Dinner: Me and another friend got the Valentine special -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- * Salad: The salad that was the first course * Main course: Mahi Mahi with mashed potatoes and asparagus - This was "OKAY" but not great considering it cost $75 * Desert: this came with the Valentine's special but the five of us shared it - Flan: This was the best part of the meal. I would get it. - Chocolate Mousse: This was good. All in all, I will say go if you want to try it but I will not be returning here. read more

In all my travels, I have met so many wonderful Chef's from different parts of the world but I really feel like these ones are very special! They are special because they live in my area and they want to embrace a new community that in return embraces their hardworking, brilliant and creative team that expresses themselves with Portuguese ingredients, flavors and influences! I love this place not only for its wonderful food but its great team that provides detail service when you sit and engage in conversation about the history about Petiscos. I am super grateful to have found this piece of heaven recognized as a Michelin restaurant because of its brilliant owners/chefs bringing their passion and placing it in a Portuguese plate screaming and vibrantly enhancing your meal experience with a story behind each ingredient that makes it an authentic Portuguese Dinning Experience! read more

Not the same as the previous restaurant at Adega, post pandemic closure. Food was overwhelming salty, especially the calms. We order the bread starter but could not use it for the clam broth, it was inedible. Pork Croquettes was good but my wife didn't like it as it was on the salty side too. Octopus starter salad was meh, texture wasn't great The "whole Roasted" Branzino fish was really just a personal portion, not really a sharing dish like we assumed from the menu description. It was delicious (!) though but it was the only thing we enjoyed besides the bread. Veggies had a nice char, cream sauce was yum and the fish was cooked well. read more
Petiscos has a fantastic space suitable for a casual dinner or a special occasion. The best dish was hands down the duck fried rice. Really good flavor, although quite oily. The portions, however, are ridiculously small. Food is meant to be shared, but dishes are nowhere near large enough to do so. Price point is quite high as other reviews have pointed out. It was difficult to flag down service to order more food. Multiple servers came by our table to ask the same things, so I think the restaurant needs to have a better system amongst staff. Our server was fantastic at the table though. The fabled egg tarts were only ok -- I wish they were fresher and had less cinnamon. Tasted almost like an Apple pie. read more
My friends and I were hanging around nearby at another venue, but their kitchen was closed for the night. They did allow us to bring outside food, so we looked around and found this place nearby that was open. Ordering was simple from their website and pick up was easy as well. Codfish Cakes: My one friend and I split this between us and it was really delicious. The fish was flaky and the batter was fried perfectly for me. Modern decor inside. It looked pretty clean. Waiters were nice but not efficient. Heres what I thought of the food, which is tapas style. -Octopus: Good flavor. Very soft and moist. -Seafood Paella: It was so salty. And for have waited around 25 minutes.. It was bad. -Broa: Pretty good, we cleared it rather quick. -Codfish Cakes: Full of fish. The place looks great but that's about where it ends in terms of complements. It seems like they want to charge fancy restaurant prices and portions while giving you casual restaurant quality. The pork croquettes are fairly salty so you need to douse them in the sauce to abate it. This actually made them pretty good. The portion for the octopus was non-existent considering, at time of this review, they charged $45 for an octopus tail and 5 baby potatoes. Even without considering the price, it's just alright. The serving size of the Francesinha was good but it's honestly so one-note and reminiscent of malt that it became boring to eat. Additionally, the egg was fairly overcooked even though I cut it immediately. Also, it's so hard to cut it with the knife they gave to you. Wish it came pre-sliced. And for the service, boy that mess was rough. They tried but they were both understaffed and also incentivized. Been here twice recently. Scallops were soooo good the first time I came, that I had to come back but unfortunately, the second time, it seemed like the polenta had sat too long. It was too thick and dry, unlike the first time. Everything else was very good. Also had the pata negra during my first visit and it melted in my mouth. Definitely want to come back again, there's plenty more to try. I enjoyed both of my visits. read more

TLDR: This place is decent and cute for a date night. It got my attention due to its association with now defunct Michelin starred Adega. I hope they consider reprinting their menu to include descriptions of what an item is vs relying on a waiter to remember to describe what entails or the customer to inquire. This would help manage expectations better. I participated in this year's annual Dine Downtown Restaurant Week and ordered from their menu which consisted of a 3 course meal for $45 which is a good value. I arrived at 7pm and found myself in a crowd of couples and small groups. There were no available seats at the table and I was lucky to snag a seat for 1 at the bar. Whew! With several options on the restaurant week prix fixe, I enjoyed their flamed chourico (appetizer), roasted octopus (main), and orange tart (dessert). I should have asked but I feel like it should've been indicated in the menu that bread was included as I ended up extra bread that I didn't need (albeit I ordered the cornbread/ bread combo). The bread (Portuguese wheat bread) and broa (Portuguese corn bread) that I unnecessarily ordered arrived with butter and olive oil. Both were thick and wheat-y if that's your thing. Personally, I'd skip this. Next the flamed chourico (chorizo like sausage) arrived and announced itself in literal flames. It was tasty and had a nice snap. Finally the roasted octopus arrived with potatoes. I was surprised to seee the potatoes on plate as nothing on the menu indicated it would be included. I welcomed this as I was actually looking to order some and would've also ended up ordering them as a side (it's not on the menu as a side) and find myself with a dilemma of over-ordering. I also enjoyed two drinks (Pisco sour and oaxaquena) both of which were tasty. Ambiance is cute, great lighting, and the space is moderately sized. Petiscos is a Michelin Bib restaurant in San Jose! If you're worried about downtown parking, you can park at the convention center parking and walk across the street to get to Petiscos. There is also an outdoor parking area lot across the street. The interior was so nice and the food was even better! We ordered cheese bread, meat pie, duck rice, asparagus rice, filet mignon, shrimp with garlic sauce, and flamed chouriço. There was 4 of us and the waiter suggested 2-3 plates per person. We ordered 7-8 and it was filling. Our personal favorites were the asparagus rice and filet mignon. This place was so cute and they even brought out a dessert for our friend's bday. Is it easy to find parking near the restaurant?
Prepare to park 2-3 blocks away. However, street parking availability depends on time of day. It's harder to find parking in the evenings/at night. I prefer ride share transportation (Lyft, Uber) if I go downtown in the evening.
