I've been to Havana many times before, but this particular visit happened after a long gap so I was keen to know what had changed, if anything at all. The interior was familiar with the bar in the back and the middle island seating available. But everything was clean and lively. The menu appeared to be a mix of old and new items which was appreciated. New tapas, entrees, and drinks allow for a wide selection that'll fit any party size or appetite level. Our server was very upbeat and friendly which was great, granted the restaurant was starting to pick up steam (we arrived around 7pm on a Wednesday). We ordered the Chimichurri Skirt Steak and the Paella. Both flavorful and delivered in a timely manner. The real MVP though has always been the mojitos and this continues to be the case. So good! Parking is either street parking or we parked in a structure and walked over. We went on a Monday evening started off with a few mojitos. Passion fruit Lychee and white peach vanilla mojitos. Both were good but I liked the lychee flavor better. For appetizer we had ceviche with banana chips. The banana chips were delicious with the ceviche. For entrees we picked paella and the ropa vieja. The paella was good came out hot and with shrimp, chicken, chorizo , clams and muscles. The ropa brisket was good but to me it felt like a crock pot. Not fall off the bone melt in your mouth brisket. Havana is always amazing! Thirsty Thursdays are so fun- salsa lessons and a live Cuban band! Plus the food and drinks are always great! I enjoyed a classic mojito made "not too sweet" the way I like it. The Cuban sandwich is a classic and the best around. The ham croquettes were bursting with creamy rich flavor. My two new favs are the fresh hamachi crudo with bright flavors (this little balls on top are concentrated lime! So amazing) and the snapper ceviche made in traditional Cuban style. We came here for a quick drink before heading to the R&B brunch and we should have just stayed here. The atmosphere was fun and friendly the bartender Jesse was FANTASTIC!! Greeted & seated immediately by a super nice woman at the front desk. latin music playing, a vibe for sure. Finally got to try this place and it did not disappoint. Would eat here again. The staff were great, friendly and nice. My friends and I ordered the plantain chips and avocado mash, which was a small snack to share with everyone. Ordered the chimichurri skirt steak and that was delicious. Finally checked out Havana downtown and they are legit. The food here is solid. We got the lamb chops and it didn't disappoint. We also tried the Ropa Vieja empanadas and they were spot on. On top of the great food, the service was efficient and our plates were ready in no time. One thing I didn't enjoy was the chicano fried rice - somehow missed the fact it had pineapple in it. My waitress was amazing -- charming, funny, and incredibly attentive without ever hovering. I wish I remembered her name, but she was from Pittsburgh and had me laughing throughout the meal. That kind of genuine hospitality makes a huge difference. As if the night wasn't already great, as I was about to leave the owner personally came over and presented me with a cigar. As a heads up, 20% tip was included in the bill for having a large group. I came for brunch with a group of 6 on a rainy Sunday morning. We had a reservation so we were seated right away but there was plenty of seating available I think due to the weather and not a ton of people out and about. Service was a little slow; it seemed like only one or two servers were working but ours was very nice and apologized for the delays. I had the ropa vieja with yucca hash. Havana provided us with an excellent experience. As soon as you walk in, the ambiance and decor is super cute and fun! They have indoor seating and a bar. The cocktail menu is amazing, with many flavors of mojitos and craft cocktails! The food was delicious. We went for brunch and I am looking forward to going back for dinner. Traveled to Walnut Creek last weekend to take in a holiday play (A Christmas Carol) at the Lesher Center. I wanted a restaurant with tasty food, and not too noisy and within walking distance of the theatre. Found Havana and make a reservation. We arrived a little early and were greeted by a friendly hostess and seated immediately. The vibe is classy and cozy. We reviewed the menu and had a hard choice between the many choices of Mojito. I chose the Cherry-Ginger Gin Mojito and my wife had the Blood Orange-Sage. Both were delicious! After reviewing the menu with our server Jeff, we chose to order off the Tapas menu, sharing several small dishes. We started with the Roja Vieja Empanadas with a Chipotle Aioli, the Grilled Shrimp with Sofrito Rice, and the Day Scallops with Truffle-Cumin Crema. My favorite was the Shrimps and my wife loved the Day Scallops - but honestly everything was flavorful. We ordered a second round of Mojito my wife staying with her original Mojito while I switched to the Pear-Clove, wanting to try a different flavor. This blend of 5 liquid ingredients and fresh muddled mint was also delicious. We capped off the dinner with a shared Caramel Rum Flan which was divine. We learned from Jeff they often have live music on Thursdays and have Mojito specials several days. Had dinner with my wife and daughter here on a Saturday night. Really nice food with good music. There was a lot of high table seating, which we usually try to avoid but there wasn't an option to choose a regular table during my reservation. Loved the food, the scallops had a great sear. The potatoes had a sweet taste which was nice. The kids chicken was ok, I enjoyed the corn that she had (though my daughter didn't like it). Lamb was really good, not gamey at all. Chimichurri steak medium well was cooked perfectly. Fried rice was nice but there wasn't a lot of oil at the bottom. Paella was good as well but just not as crispy as trleferic or va de vi. so happy i had came here for dinner. it was very slow and empty on a tuesday night. the host and our waitress were so fabulous and friendly, i wish i had gotten their names. our waitress was so kind and gave us great suggestions for mojitos and was very knowledgeable of the food and drinks menu. the food came out very fast, and hot. it is so beautiful in this restaurant, they have outdoor seating as well. it was very clean in the bathroom and all around. you are given your own water so don't worry about being thirsty or waiting around to get your glass refilled. i got the fig mojito and they were able to swap it for dark rum. i love that the menu was not too big because that is how you know they are able to put a lot of care into their dishes that they make. everything was so delicious. i would love to try the brunch here. i got the vaca frita, it was perfect. i loved how crispy the beef was, the tostones compliments the whole dish. my boyfriend got the ropa vieja and it was also very delicious. the meat was stewed with tomatoes and i love how the plantain paired so well to combat the slight acidity of the meat. read more

I came here with my family and I ordered several tapas - tuna tartare with spicy yucca chips, veggie empanada, yucca fries and grilled lamb chops and everything was delicious. My daughter and husband both got a plate - rope vieja and chimichirri steak which they both liked. For dessert we couldn't help but try a couple - rum flan and churros with chocolate. I used to love this place, so I was a little disappointed on my last visit. I used to get the kale salad, which could be made allium-free, but they've changed the recipe and now the alliums are pre-mixed into the salad. When I asked if they could make a fresh salad without alliums, they weren't accommodating and said there wasn't anything I could eat. I wish the jalapeño sauce was a little spicier but still great flavors. Service was good. This is my go-to spot for the scallops, the lamb, and a good lemon drop--but today was truly next level. This was, by far, the best restaurant experience I've ever had. Parking can be an issue so be prepared for that. Nice spacious dinning area and they also have a bar. We were seated quickly and our server was nice and attended to us right away. After narrowing our choices down to three restaurants in Walnut Creek based on Yelp reviews, we decided to give Havana a try--and we're so glad we did! We visited on a Saturday mid-morning and grabbed seats at the bar. Our bartender, Carly, was incredibly personable, engaging, and friendly. We had such a great conversation with her throughout our visit, which made the experience even more enjoyable. The manager, Jeff, was equally welcoming. We mentioned that we were from out of town and that Cuban cuisine was a bit outside of our normal comfort zone, as we typically stick to American, bistro, or pub-style food. Jeff was extremely gracious and surprised us with a delicious chicken dish and some plantain chips to sample. Both were absolutely amazing! What stood out most was the genuine hospitality we received. It's refreshing to find bartenders and managers who truly value customer service and go out of their way to make guests feel welcome. I came here with a craving for a popular Cuban spot down in LA and left craving unsatisfied. I'll start with the memorable... the mojitos and the paella. I came to catch up with an old friend, and didn't know that Mojito Monday was a thing. Apparently, on Monday's, mojitos are 50% off. So even though I had no plans of drinking, I'm a sucker for a good deal and couldn't say no. I ordered one that had jalapeño and it was so delicious and such a deal I had to get a second. The green garlic and cauliflower paella was not something we originally ordered, but some thing I was intrigued by after a Mojito and some tapas. Glad we did because it was good, filling, and shareable for 3 and still had leftover for lunch the following day. The other things we ordered to share, tapas, were okay but never quite hit the mark for me. The yucca fries were ok but the star of that was the green sauce. One of the sauces was too cumin-y for me. The ropa vieja empanadas were also ok but some bites were good and others left you wanting more... basically filling wasn't enough. The ceviche is something I never need to order here again. Good in theory, but the odor of the fish was too much for me. Actually maybe that just all their seafood or maybe that day because the table next to me ordered something else that was too fishy and kinda soured my experience if you can't tell. My husband and I took our parents here to celebrate Father's Day this weekend. There aren't many Cuban restaurants in the Bay Area and we were very surprised to find one in the heart of Walnut Creek. Parking: street parking or city parking lots. Ambiance: spacious, modern, sleek with lots of black and white. There is counter seating in the middle of the restaurant with table seating on the sides. There's also an open bar area as well. Great spot for family celebrations or date nights. Service: attentive. We were a party of 6 so we order quite a bit of tapas and 4 entrees to share and we didn't have to wait long for food to come out. We did have some difficulty flagging someone for more utensils but the restaurant was busy at the time so it was acceptable. When we were done, the plates were cleared efficiently and the waitress brought our check quickly without us having to remind her. Food: 2/5. This is where the stars dropped. With the exception of the mojo chicken wings, the pork shoulders, and the steak, the rest of food we ordered were pretty heavy in terms of salt. The most salty dish was the paella. Presentation was beautiful for each plate and portion size was reasonable but the taste was very mediocre. We ordered the scallops, the mojo chicken wings, the lamp chops, the chino-Cuban fried rice, the paella, the puerco cubano and the chimichurri steak. The Cuban fried rice, although not as salty as the paella, was too mushy. Cost: $$. Even with the mandatory 20% service charge given we were a big party, the meal itself wasn't too expensive given the portion size, and the presentation of the food.
