Blackwater is a cute boutique in the heart of San Luis Obispo! Was in town for a wedding and went exploring the day after. Happened to stop by Blackwater and it left an imprint! Store energy is welcoming and all items were placed in accordance to feng shui, it seems - I was curious and interested in a lot of the goodies sold here, so my browsing began. I ended up with my plant, which is so unique. Staff member educated me on the plant and it's been blossoming! It's the first plant I haven't fully killed due to Blackwater's care and education! When I'm in town, I'll definitely swing by, at least just for the environment. Parking is easy, lots of street and metered parking available. There are also lots of shops around after stopping by Blackwater for jewelry, clothing, crystals and plants. High quality items and care into each product on sell. This is a cute and pleasant store to visit, but it is misleading to place it among the clothing stores, especially at number one. There are very few clothes in it. One third are plants, one third knit knacks, and barely one third are regular clothes in the back of the store. read more

A little over due but my daughter and I shopped there early afternoon on Saturday, Dec 17. She bought a dress as a Xmas gift for a friend and a romper for herself. The 2 girls working there were friendly, helpful and provided great customer service! Her style and lots of brands she likes. Great prices on sale items as well. They were fairly busy and had run out of gift wrapping so one of them was very quick to go get more (unsure from where but she left the store). She returned quickly, wrapped the gift super cute and all with a smile on her face. We were impressed! read more

Super disappointing experience at my last visit here, was completely ignored by the older woman & younger store associate. My friend and I are both women of color and nobody greeted us, despite us walking past multiple workers and nobody else being in the store. Really disheartening and frankly fake to claim support for local BLM causes and Tianna Arata when you actively dismiss WOC customers. Practice what you claim to preach and step away from the performativeness. I've been frequenting the store for the last two years and had made friends with one of the assistant managers, attending art events and even met Mary Alice (Owner? Manager?) ABOVE AND BEYOND! I would like to sincerely thank both the owner and employees at this shop. A couple months before my wedding this past June, I passed by your store when you were closed. There was a simple, elegant white dress in the window, the last one of it's kind. The next day I called, ask if you would grab it, and hold it for me. As long as it fit, that was to be my wedding dress. I came in that day and experienced customer service like never before. I ended up finding a couple different dresses and just couldn't decide. Each staff member and even the owner providing consult, excellent advice and their preferences. The owner wasn't liking with how one of the dresses was fitting, and stopped what she was doing to steam it so that I could have the 'full effect'. I spent a lot of time in the store, and appreciate their time, care, and thoughts more than words can express. It wasn't like I was spending a whole lot, but you made me feel like a 'million bucks'. I was visiting and didn't have family or friends in town to help me decide, so these lovely women became part of my wedding in that moment. It was such a fun day with complete strangers. This is hands down the best boutique in town. This has nothing to do with knowing the staff. I've been shopping here well before getting to know them. Almost every garment in my closet is from this shop. I love how everything is unique, classy, trendy and ahead of the curve, fashion wise. The new location is to die for. Shop is adorable and has a good range of things. On vacation and bought 2 necklaces, one for a gift. Gave the gift, then got home and opened more me to discover that the necklace has no clasp, it's just closed shut with a metal jump ring and it's not big enough to slip over the head. Every time I wear this I'm supposed to use pliers to get it on and off?? The jump ring will snap after ten uses at most, even if I felt ok about using pliers every freaking time. Total waste and I really hope that the other necklace I just gifted isn't also useless. WTH read more

I love there clothes but the vibes I get when I'm in that store are enough to make me not want to come back. Plus they have no body/ethnicity appreciation with the girls they put pictures up of. I'm gonna hop up on a high horse here.... one, I am a city official that reviews health&safety guidelines.... two any establishment that requires its customers to remove their own mask and forces them to wear a mask supplied by the store, is grossly disobeying city ordinance by modifying the rules and causing more issues by potentially issuing contaminated masks to the public (especially since said masks are store branded and not standard medical masks) but all in all.... pretty producya that are extremely overprice, don't shop here read more

This store is cute, however the people inside came across as disinterested. The prices inside suggested that someone assist me. But no one ever even said hello. Which is okay because we are all busy. I tried on a necklaces and it broke. I told the clerk what had happened and she had said that's okay it happens all time. I understand she was trying to make me feel welcomed but come on... I ended finding two blushes and a pair of darling jeans and after the first wash on all the items they faded shrunk and seemed, at this point over priced. I'm trying to support local business. Worse Boutique I ever walked into. Worst customer service not helpful at all. Very rude an very immature people working there. I went to purchase somthing brought it back because it didn't fit right an was big for a small. They don't do money back an no one told me this when I purchased it. The owners daughter was giving me attitude an telling me I had to get credit in the store an they give this recipe with a credit on it like at least put it on a store card or somthing. Didn't buy anything that day because I was so furious that I was stuck buying somthing that was $60. Tried going in a couple days later to try to pick something out an nothing fits correctly eveything is over priced. This one dress was $320 an buttons where falling off of it. I couldn't find anything that day so I decided to just buy $60 earrings online an when I got them the back was bent on it an felt really cheap I don't recommend shopping there to anyone.
