"Breakfast is always better with Guns & Roses" Blades is new-ish. Although if you tell an old-timer that you're going there, afore described old timer will wax reminiscent about some other former diner/restaurant called Blades, in the same building, where Pomodoro is now, that was "the place to be." True to its name, there are blades, blades everywhere, on the wall, on another wall, on a third wall. If vampires ever decide to try to take over Blades, they're have a rude awakening when the patrons, bikers and truckers all, take the blades off of the wall at Blades and use the blades to decaffeinate the afore described vampires. Really, former place was, and the current place is, called "Blades" because it is in the old Huther Brothers Saw manufacturing plant. Our waitress informed us that there were just tons of old saws and blades in the basement, and also people around the community maybe donated some? There were also lots of TVs in the place, which seemed a little off. Huge windows look out onto University Avenue, so you can snicker at the people stuck in traffic while you eat. But, lo! you are oblivious to the fact that you'll soon be joining them. But, haha! you'll have a stomachful of the sub-sequentially-described foods. Anyway, if you look at Yelp, you'll see two things that you NEED to order. So we did: The Abocado: bacon, avocado, and Monterey Jack topped with sour cream. It was hearty and delicious. It was very savory, not too bacony (happily). You millennials out there will appreciate the avocado. Because you like anything avocado, right? All it has to have is avocado and you'll go hog wild. I betcha didn't even realize that it's spelled "abocado" with a "b" as the second letter, didja? We think that b is for bacon. Or the Qwerty-keyboard user's finger slipped and like just keeps slipping? Side note: the potato add-on was a wise choice, but they were a little underdone (par exemple, my fork failed to penetrate one of the potatoes and the afore described potato went a-flyin'). Good, but not quite as good as the best potatoes anyone has ever had ever ever (i.e. Shmeg's). Side side note note: English muffin. The Lemon Ricotta Pancakes: marinated berries, creamy lemon curd, topped with fresh ricotta. The waitress said that there was ricotta in the pancakes. We could not tell whether the pancakes were, in fact, normal pancakes, or whether they had stuff in them, because the lemon curd, even when scraped off, left a lemony flavour. The lemon curd was not too sweet. It reminds one of a little lemon tea cake. Or, better yet, of those lemon girl scout cookies. (As we all know, ABC Bakers supplies most of the girl scout cookies in the Rochester area; their lemon cookie is called the Lemonade). The berries were tart and well-placed; their habitation in the centre of the pancake-on-pancake-on-pancake means that the devourer can elect to have lemon-curd-only bites around the edges, while working closer and closer and closer towards berry Armageddon in the core (berry-geddon). Order these, fo sho. There was real maple syrup provided in a little petri dish, but seriously, bro, none was necessary because of the afore described curd and berries. Blades restaurant. Or diner? Just Blades? Blades [insert thing] is a great place for breakfast. With 10 as a must-eat, this eatery rates a 9. Don't Miss: The two things we described afore. Pro Tip: A new one just opened up in Pittsford, too!

I'm very into this place. It totally fills a void in the immediate area in terms of providing a good brunch / breakfast spot where you can bring friends and/or family, helping to establish the neighborhood feel that is developing around University and Culver. They were a little backed up in terms of orders, but our waitress was super attentive and accommodating, and I wasn't left unsatisfied in terms of service. The food (and menu) was great, very inspired and elevated, yet sensible and not hard to wrap one's mind around. I enjoyed a quinoa bowl (one of numerous very welcome bowls on the menu) and my GF enjoyed lemon ricotta pancakes. Both were fantastic and made our visit very worthy of a repeat. The place has a "blade" motif in terms of the decorations, which is interesting and adds to the "edgy" appeal (ha ha ha). Overall, I feel like this place strikes a good balance between classy/upscale, down-to-earth/unpretentious, and artsy/interesting. The menu is definitely top notch for a brunch/lunch oriented spot in Rochester, particularly in terms of the immediate area, and I will definitely come back. Very much worth checking out!

So I've never been here before but I think I will give it another go and an updated review. I guess this was another restaurant and I did not go to this spot either. This place is deceiving in the fact how big it is and the outdoor space in the back... I was here for a group lunch.. the inside is full of soft colors and when the light streams in it's really pleasant. Maybe it's just me but I'm not a big fan of tv in a restaurant setting. If your bar is separate fine but... Staff was around but since we were with a group no one really told us.. ok if you want an ice tea or a cocktail go up to the bar or ask staff. The table was set beautifully but it did look like our group put out some sunflowers and etc seems cool that you an do that. The food was pretty good the Italian Wedding Soup need something (salt? Maybe some Parmesan) and the mixed green salad with mushrooms, craisons and bacon was good with the side of dressing. Our sandwiches were on soft focaccia bread with turkey, lettuce, tomato, mustard (not my personal favorite but it worked) and gruyere cheese..it was good but this too needed something. Coffee was fresh... All in all a pretty place, food seems good but I would need to come again and update my review..

A girlfriend and I headed here when the place we initially wanted to go wasn't going to work. We started with drinks but their tap menu was not updated and they were out of three listed, including the one I ordered. I switched to a red wine, which was ok. Our appetizer was their Brie was delicious, though a little heavy on the balsamic. My burger really fell short. I order it medium and I considered it well done. To their credit they offered dessert (which we were not interested in) on the house and took it off the bill, but it was disappointing.

Alright, nothing to write home about. I might have been convinced to give one additional star expect for the fact that the wait at Blades, despite having been open long enough to create an efficient work flow by now, was very very long. It appeared that they did not have enough kitchen staff to keep up with the amount of people streaming in. This could be due to normal Sunday brunch traffic (as I expect there would be a wait almost anywhere decent for brunch on a Sunday morning), compounded by Park Ave Fest, but it does seem like even one extra person in the kitchen would have helped them a lot. The staff was friendly, my mimosa was decent, and the food was good. Recommendations from my table: Norwegian or Abocado omelets, or the frittata. If I had to make one suggestion it would be to butter the toast a little bit better. I honestly couldn't tell if mine had ever been buttered since it was so dry. If dry toast is not your thing, make sure you ask for some butter, otherwise there are jelly options at the table. I have to say, the frittata looked amazing, and I would probably order that if I return. It's a massive serving and you could easily get two meals from it. Overall, the food was good, so I cannot say I won't be back, but if you're in a rush or very hungry and in need of immediate sustenance, I don't know that you will enjoy the Blades experience. Only come here if you're wanting to have a leisurely meal, sip a bloody mary or mimosa, and have at least an hour (probably more like an hour and a half) to spend.

Incredible brunch and space!!! We started with sake Bloody Mary's that were smooth, light and refreshing. Definitely not your typical bloody, but satisfying nonetheless! The Big Easy was perhaps the best Eggs Benedict dish I've ever had. I found myself closing my eyes with each bite trying not to moan aloud...lol. Soooo good! The Norwegian was chalk full of flavor as well with salmon and capers. Roasted potatoes were a $2.50 up-charge and I'd say order another cocktail instead....just not seasoned and crisp enough to be worth the extra money. I finished the meal with a sunset mimosa which was the perfect dessert!! I look forward to returning soon! Phenomenal meal and service!

Bladessssss. Blades was cool. Blades didn't blow my mind, but Blades was cool. I'd heard that it was a great brunch place, and I can certainly attest to that. But between all the TVs and the different jelly varieties on the table, it just really pushed that diner vibe. It's definitely more upscale than your average diner, though. As for the food, I was reaaaaaaally disappointed in the shocking lack of vegetarian menu items. There were a few, and of course you can always request a dish without meat, but I really did struggle in picking something to eat! There were many dishes in which it required you to select your choice of meat, and it would have really made an impression if there was some sort of vegetarian option! Tofu, seitan, anything - just to make more of the menu items more inclusive. I will say though that the items we ended up getting were pretty delicious. The Big Easy Benediction (minus chorizo) was really, really good. Flavors were awesome and great presentation. I imagine it'd be even better with the side of potatoes. We decided to get one breakfast item and one lunch item, so the other thing we got was The Infantino burger - made with bean and quinoa. What I liked most about this vegetarian burger was that it was more of a Middle Eastern flavor and just something DIFFERENT. That's hard to find in veggie burgers. Nice spot for breakfast or lunch, especially for larger parties, as it's a pretty big space. The food is very well prepared, but I'm not sure that anything will be dragging me back anytime soon!

Came in 10 minutes before the end of brunch (I suck, I know) on the brink of being hangry. I left with a smile on my face, a full belly, leftovers, and plans to return. I fully expect to get crappy service and less than fresh food when coming in for brunch so late, but that was not my experience here. Service was prompt, and came with a smile. But after my first bite, I had to pause to stop my eyes from rolling in the back of my head. THE FOOD IS SO GOOD. I knew right then that this place belonged on my short list of brunch spots. The quality for the price is unmatched in my experience in Rochester. Actually, the food here far surpasses much more expensive restaurants in the area. On our way out, the chef made sure to ask us about our meal. As someone who used to work in the service industry, that really put the cherry on top for me.

I was excited to see the progress of Blades moving toward opening. I'm a proud North Winton Villager and walk my dog by the restaurant a few times a week. It was excited to see a new place open up, and I'm glad to see that they are doing something different that the rest of the places nearby. We finally got a chance to meet at Blades for breakfast with a few friends on a Sunday morning. We arrived during a bit of a rush and they were honest that the kitchen was running slow and that it would be a few minutes to sit, but shortly after we got a table. Drinks and our first coffee came quickly. It took a long time for the food to arrive, and while it was fairly busy the kitchen was running slowly. I'll say that that's a big difference between expectations for me between breakfast and lunch. I expect breakfast to be fast! When the food arrived I was pleasantly surprised by a lot of the dishes. The breakfast potatoes are out of this world! I could eat those every day. My partner ordered eggs over medium and noted that they were perfectly cooked, and this is not always the case. I had the Power Bowl, which was a super, super lot of chia seeds topped with another ample amount of granola, and then topped with a small amount of fresh fruit. Everything was tasty and fresh, but I wish the ratios had been a bit different. I'll be back to Blades for sure, and know that the service will improve. This is the same team from Saha Grill which I loved, and I'm excited to see Blades perfect the game in the months ahead.

We had a very good brunch here. I had the avocado and bacon omelet which was basically a bacon and cheese omelet with pico de gallo and sour cream on top. Quite tasty. And my table-mate had French toast and eggs Benedict. The hollandaise sauce apparently left something to be desired. But he said the French toast was very good. I really liked my toast actually. The wheat variety. They chose to serve a hearty bread, which is a pleasant surprise. Most places just go for the cheap soft wheat. Atmosphere was pleasant. Our waitress was professional and kind. I'd recommend this place to a friend for a solid happy experience.

I would definitely come back. I gotta say I am more than happy with my choice. I had the big easy Benedict and my friend got the lemon ricotta pancake. I enjoy salty food compared to sweet so it was a great combination to eat a couple bites of pancakes as a dessert. I really like the presentation of the food and also tastes good! The portion is really filling so come on an empty stomach! Pro: decent prices, presentation of food, taste of the food, variety of options, dogs allowed Con: a bit of a wait since it's busy

First time at Blades today for brunch and it was just ok. I liked the atmosphere as it had an upscale, trendy diner vibe. It's all one open space so it was very loud but it didn't bother us. The bubbly blonde host was very sweet and sat my friend and I promptly. It took a while for our waitress to come over to greet us and take our order though... and we were just dying for our first cup of coffee! We ordered the Super Bowl and the Lemon Ricotta Pancakes. The food was okay but nothing that overwhelmed either of us. The best part was the warmed fruit on the pancakes though - it was pretty tasty. We weren't checked on for coffee warm ups or water refills until we got our food and then could ask for it. We also saw two tables that were bigger parties come in after us, eat, pay and then the tables were re-sat with new people who got mimosas before we could even get our check which was a bit frustrating. Will I be back? Probably - but maybe not on a busy weekend.

First time at Blades diner for breakfast. Saturday morning at 10 a.m. I was worried it would be a wait, we sat right down and there was lots of open space. Blades diner opened in July it's possible it's just not known yet. Plenty of seating, booths, tables and a large counter and bar seating. There is a waiting area if needed in the area between the diner and the bar and grill with complimentary coffee. I love the decor and the open kitchen. We were seated immediately and our server greeted us and served us coffee within minutes. The menu is a good size but not huge. Our party of three had Chicken & Waffles with siracha honey glaze, Classic Eggs Benedict with roasted potatoes with added pepper and onions and a frittata with ciabatta toast. They have flavored cream for the coffee which we always like. They tableware is nice, stemmed water glasses, real heavy silverware and nice napkins. I could see part of our order sitting up under the heat lamps for 10 minutes so that was concerning. It was the chicken and waffles and my husband said he couldn't tell when eating it. He really enjoyed the meal especially the fluffiness of the waffle. My Mother's frittata covered the entire plate and she took a good portion home. My Eggs Benedict was good although next time I'll try something else. Prices were fair, our total before tip was $50 for 3 meals and 3 coffees. They also offer mimosas, maybe next time! I will go back for sure, the location is great for us. They also have a good amount of seating in the front on the outdoor patio. We will also come back and try the bar and grill. I've been back twice more and I'm sorry to say it just isn't as great as I was hoping. Food is just ok. Servers always seem stressed and it wasn't even busy. It's pretty pricey for breakfast. Today I had French Toast and sausage my daughter has the Açaí bowl and toast, 1 coffee and 1 juice and it was $32 before tip. I keep wanting to like it more than I do.

The bacon avocado omelette. Awesome !
