When I expressed concern about the extended absence and lack of service--something I would consider standard feedback in any hospitality setting--I was abruptly told I was "speaking badly" about the staff and was asked to leave. This kind of defensiveness and disregard for patrons is deeply unprofessional, especially for an establishment that positions itself within a community where communication, accountability, and mutual respect are paramount. Eugene has a growing nightlife and alternative culture scene, and many people--locals and visitors alike--expect spaces that uphold those values. Based on my experiences, I cannot recommend The Serpent & the Sparrow. There are other venues in town that offer a far more welcoming environment, competent service, and a genuine respect for their patrons.

It is super moody and dark inside in the best way, and the atmosphere feels very hidden and intentional. We tried a bunch of the small plates and every single one was delicious. I loved my cocktail, and I believe I ordered the Bee's Knees. It was so good. Overall, this place is a great experience. I would totally come back the next time I am in Eugene.

He sorted me out pretty quickly and then I faced my next wonderful obstacle: an amazing concession stand with a very understanding vendor who had two different kinds of kombucha on tap, chilled brut rosé, several beers ranging from a Pilsner to a stout, several kinds of wine including Pinot noir and Cabernet Savignon, popcorn with real butter, frozen junior mints, whoppers, peanut M&Ms... everything good was there. Give yourself a few extra minutes to decide what you want to nosh on -- just don't pass up such a great selection. The movie was showing in theater B which was across the courtyard, really lovely few steps between buildings. The chairs were very comfortable inside theater to B and the drink holders wide enough to hold the mason jar that my kombucha came in. Yep a real glass -- none of the paper or plastic stuff -- love that. But maybe the best part was the audience who was clearly queuing to many of the lines and laughed at all the right places. The vibe was a lot like a familiarity that you encounter when you watch the Rocky horror picture show: lots of audience knowledge and appreciation expressed throughout the film, which made the movie even better. I really like this venue and the set up they have. There's also free parking to the side of the building. Support this business. It's a treasure.

The Skybar is located on the 5th floor of the building along with the Hotel lobby... uh okay. The staff are all very pleasant and accommodating. We went to the SkyBar and found it to be a smallish yet convenient place to wait for guests or visitors along with getting a drink or a bite to eat. The bar looks like it can accommodate about 30 people in the interior. There is a nice outdoor patio that can easily accommodate more when the weather is nice. The barkeeper was very attentive and observant, he took our food and drink requests at the bar and in short order, everything was presented. I had a Moscow Mule that I found to be a refreshing drink. Ginger beer, lime and vodka. An excellent combination. I also had an order of the chicken wings and fries. The fries were a normal shoestring variety, cooked well, nicely salted and came in a metal bowl. The wings I found to be outstanding! I don't usually get wings this well made unless I do it myself. I received 8 wings coated with barbecue sauce on a charcuterie board with the fries. The wings were served nicely hot. The meat was piping hot, juicy and tender. The barbecue coating was a hearty middle of the road sauce, not sweet or too smoky. It was caramelized perfectly for that sticky texture and flavor. Definitely a nice coating. Thankfully the bartender brought us a lot of napkins. The wings and fries made for a satisfying meal. The bar boasts a couple of gas fireplaces that make for a warming environment with a few semi private tables. There is a longer table for a larger group as well as several smaller tables and a few bar stools for game watching. All in all we found the bar to be a cozy semi-private environment, yet available to the guests as they come and go. All around, a nice meeting area and watering hole. We will book our family members for a stay here at the hotel. I'm looking forward to trying more of their specialty drinks.

The 1980s are alive at Blairally! Blairally is a wonderful vintage arcade. Rows of vintage pinball machines from 1970s to 1990s (arranged by era and manufacturers), plus a few dozen arcade games that most 40-somethings will remember from childhood, like Donkey Kong, Tron, Centipede, and many more. A few older antique arcade games, too, like a skee-ball lane and an antique bowling game. The bartenders are friendly, the drinks are generous, and the food is simple but great. Owners are regularly on site, technicians take care of the games daily, and this feels like a locals joint more than some of the trendy, newer places that are popping up in the general neighborhood to bank on the Ninkasi success. The Blairally regulars are a great mix of thirty-something and forty-something gamers, locals who watch sports and unwind after work with a drink, and a younger, college-age crowd that comes for DJs and dancing on the weekend nights. Some local hippies, some local hipsters, some local average joes. A great mix of people--and rarely any drama. Bartenders often hang out here on their nights off; always a good sign. :) Kids are welcome until 9 pm, and since the place opens at 2 pm on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, there is plenty of time to let the crumb-snatchers run around and play games. Fridays are "free play," and most games are set to play without quarters! Excellent for kids--and several are always there on weekend afternoons (including my stepkids, who love it there). Birthday parties for kids and adults happen often at Blairally--and I don't know why people give negative reviews for the lack of food choices, the rude help, or the dislike of children. I'm there at least once a week--over the last two years--and this is NOT usual. Occasionally, like at EVERY OTHER BAR, the kitchen or the bartender gets busy. Customers may have to wait a few minutes to be served, and sometimes the kitchen might be slow. However, the delightful compromise is that the owners welcome food from other local food trucks and restaurants. My sweetie and I have regularly eaten both from the Blairally menu AND from other local places while sitting at Blairally's bar. It adds a lot of choices, and I appreciate it. There are pinball tournaments on Wednesday nights and Sunday afternoons; newbies are always welcome and encouraged. I have made great friends at the bar--and it's one of the best ways to spend an afternoon or evening in Eugene. Oh! And if you want a cheap, fun, silly, amazing way to spend a few hours on Sunday evenings, you HAVE to come to Game Show at 8:00 pm! NOTE: There is no other local arcade that cares for their machines like Blairally. If you get frustrated trying to play broken games in other bars/arcades, then just come here. read more

Rude Dudes, I took my buddy from Nebraska here to show off a little Eugene vibe and was slightly embarrassed by a couple of the rude and too cool for school staff. After playing a bunch of fun games we sat down to watch the last couple minutes of the Blazer game they were showing and were kicked out of our seats with a minute left in the game so they could set up the "dance floor". As soon as we moved other people took our place with their table and chairs. Totally unnecessary. When we tried getting a last drink we stood at the front bar for at least 10-15 minutes while dude in the little cap actively ignored the guy in front of us, who gave up, and then ignored us for the next 5-10 minutes working completely around us serving other people. We literally had to flag one of his nice female co-workers over to get a drink. Not sure what we did other than not have enough tattoos or piercings.? I expect that kind of hipster BS attitude in bigger cities/clubs but not at the arcade in Eugene. Get over yourselves fellas. We were drinking cocktails, tipping, and spending quarters like crazy. We left sooner than planned but overall still had a fun night. read more

Definitely stop by when you are in town! We came through Eugene on a weekend trip and I was very excited to have stumbled into this little hidden gem. The drinks were decent - I didn't have the food - but the games were super fun. Kids are welcome too so you can teach them youngins about the olden times of video games. Pac man, pinball, ski ball (is that how you call it). Do yourself a favor and cruise into this place with your kids or your buddies and you will have a great time. I'm from Michigan and found Blairally shortly after I moved to Eugene. I hadn't played pinball or Pac Man in years!! I loved the atmosphere, the people and the vintage games right off the bat! I was recently clued into the start of a girls night by the awesome woman bartender. She has girls night planned for Sundays - included are drink specials and ice cream!! Oh my! This is the worst place possible. They have been very racist to my friend group. The one bouncer who wears ear muffs would not let our only Hispanic friend in because he placed an empty drink outside of the bar. That is not OLCC law and if it was his judgement than that was pure racism. I would never support this industry if he is working here again. My friend walked to our Uber crying and shaking because of how a white man would not let him enter. I did not realize we were in the 50s again Eugene. read more

blairallys bouncer, with handle bar mustache is a D-bag!! I tried going in to check out some games on the fourth, but even with valid ID he Told me "the ID looks real, but you just still look to young." So just a heads up to all the young adults, if you still have a young face I would not recommend it, even with valid ID you might not get in. And the ironic part is I've been there before around my 21st. For the service I give it negative five stars. read more

The fact that they use a quarter based system makes me deeply delighted as I resent the card based system with that being said, bring cash to avoid a service charge. Expectations were set somewhere between "drunken caterwauling" and "mildly painful nostalgia." Color me... surprised! Let's cut to the chase: the *talent* here. Eugene, who knew? Several performers weren't just "good for karaoke," they were legitimately, bafflingly excellent. Like, "should probably be charging admission or at least bothering Broadway agents" levels. One individual in particular possessed the kind of voice that makes you wonder why they're belting show tunes in a dimly lit Eugene bar on a Friday and not, you know, on a stage where people pay actual money. It was impressively non-awful. Actually, scratch that. It was great. Shockingly so. Drinks? Perfectly serviceable. Major points for the extensive non-alcoholic menu. They seemed genuinely willing to de-booze pretty much anything on request, which is handy if you're the designated listener to Eugene's hidden musical theatre gems. Staff were friendly enough, didn't seem phased by the slightly goth-adjacent vibe the place cultivates. Points for atmosphere. The singer's area wins for comfort - actual couches you can sink into while contemplating the life choices that led that phenomenal voice. The DJ deserves a medal. Actively prowling the darker corners of the bar, gently coercing the shy into public performance? Effective. Almost concerningly so. They offer food (didn't try it, smelled... present), and there are the obligatory video gambling machines for those who enjoy losing money slightly more efficiently. So my beloved Lotus Garden aka vegan Chinese food that is fab that I would frequent in the day when in lived in Eugene was closed on the 4th despite their website saying they were open and walked there to find out they only are currently doing take out. Damn like Kendrick Lamar So I walk back to Big City Gaming and the friendly bartender tells me that they have an all vegetarian menu even though it isn't pure veg aka they have non veg too. It's all good baby, baby. I am starving after walking heaps in the hard sun like Eddie Vedder. So I get some water and check out the all veg menu. Upon the bartender's suggestion I go with the jackfruit tacos. They were quite alright aka two corn tortillas filled with generous portions of fajita style grilled jackfruit, topped with cabbage, pico de gallo and our signature avocado crema sauce sprinkled with queso fresco. I decided to add vegan crema and non-dairy cheese for a buck. It hit the spot. I did feel like a fish out of water with all the screens showing baseball as basketball is my jam. I am a huge Warriors fan and sad we lost Donte yet he is going to the Knicks. Cool atmosphere with screens for sports and games such as shooting basketballs in the hoop etc. Recommended for sports night!

It's a small spot that left you feeling intimate while having fun. You order food and drinks from the bar and they deliver it to you at your lane. With over 20 taps there is something for everyone to drink and they have a full menu to choose from. It's bar food, burgers, wings, fries etc. But, the pizza is the hidden gem here. The wood fired pizza is so good. The crust is perfectly chewy and toothy, the cook fired it perfectly and it had the perfect crunchy crust. My wife was able to add Ricotta and roasted garlic from another pizza to the main pepperoni and she said it was fantastic. Me, I have a dairy free diet so I got the Veggie pizza without cheese. I was very surprised with crispy mushrooms and olive blend. The mushrooms were PNW mushrooms and had such an earthy aroma and flavor. The marinara was spicy too, it was just a perfect pizza. It just needed a garlic EVOO drizzle to tie it together. We will definitely be back, this has made it into our top 5 date night locations.
