We dropped in for a late lunch on Saturday around 1:00 PM and were greeted promptly and warmly. We were quickly seated and served our drinks, and the waiter came over just a couple of minutes later to check on appetizers. Fried Pickles (Half Order): 10/10! They took a few minutes to arrive, but they came out piping hot and incredibly yummy. Onion Rings: The absolute star of the meal! Crisp, delicious, and perfectly done. Mushroom Swiss Burger: 7/10. I had actually ordered the blackened bacon mushroom burger, but received this instead. It wasn't worth sending back because it was cooked perfectly, though the patty seriously lacked seasoning. Chili Burger: 5/10. My husband's burger tasted more like a basic cheddar cheeseburger topped with sloppy joe mix. The patty wasn't seasoned, and the chili lacked deep flavor. The side of fries, however, was great! The Verdict: We will definitely come back! The food is priced perfectly for the portion sizes, and the service was top-notch. That said, I'd highly recommend sticking to their fried menu items like the fried fish, country fried steak, or frog legs. They clearly have their fried food seasonings down to a science! read more

My husband and I attended the @hopeful_acres gala recently. We won a $50 gift certificate to @blakescafemcqueeney. Today, we checked it out for lunch. We started with their Sweet Chili Wings. Finger licking good! We scarfed down the 8 pieces. 5 stars for the wings. Hubby tried the Chicken Fried Steak with mashed potatoes. They're supposed to be known for this dish and unfortunately it was chewy so it's 3 stars. I ordered the Swiss Mushroom Burger with onion rings. The onion rings were great but the burger lacked seasoning. We got Dad the Beer Battered Alaskan Pollock with sweet potato fries. This entree and side was excellent. We brought home leftovers. Mixed review for this staple in McQueeney. Perhaps it was an off day. The desserts sounded good but we were too full to have any. Would be worth checking out if you're in the area. read more

We"ve visited around 10 times and tried many dishes. Most of the time the food is under seasoned. But, that is an easy fix. Today's visit was the same. The atmosphere is wonderful. However, it was so hot that we almost left before the food arrived about 15 minutes after we arrived. We asked the waitress if it was always this hot and the response was that in the summer it was always like an oven and there was nothing she could do about it. so, if comfort is your thing avoid Blake's. read more

This was my first time at the original location and I was NOT disappointed one bit ! Our service was great all around! I believe our server was Mary and she was so helpful and sweet ! Our food came out fast ! I had the chicken fried chicken and it was sooo good ! Highly recommend you try it ! My hubby said his plate was very good as well. I had the Blackened Bacon Burger, it was delicious, cooked just right with fries. Also had Texas bites, Fried Bacon wrapped with cheese and jalapeños bites. I stopped here for lunch today. Have had friends tell me it was good. The food was good but I was completely shocked by the way their staff was. I saw an older waitress cuss out another younger waitress with no regard that the customers could see her and hear her. I was in disbelief. Even people sitting around me noticed and we all looked at each other in disbelief. The younger waitress was visibly shook up. She walked by my table and I asked her if she was ok. She said yeah but I could see she was not. She did not look any older than my own daughter. Probably still in high school. I know I would lose it if I saw an older woman cussing my daughter out. I have been eating at Blake's for many years and have had many good meals here. Sandy, I had the worst pork chops I've ever eaten. They were paper, thin and well overcooked. They were very large in diameter and consisted mostly of overcooked breading. I prefer quality over perceived quantity. I would like to have one large thick, well prepared pork chop rather than two oversize pieces of fried dough. This place seems to be getting better. It's still not it's former glory but it is getting better. They nolonger have the warm rye bread and butter before the meal. " the bakery in Houston that supplied the bread went out of business. " Hhmmm. Too bad there isn't a bakery or for that matter several bakeries substantially closer to supply a restaurant with bread. So, we have driven by this place so many times, and always wanted to try it...so we did....and now I wish we would have kept driving! The service was subpar, waitress Ivy didn't appear to know what she was doing, I can forgive that tho because she was nice, maybe she's just new? So, my daughter ordered chicken tenders and I ordered Nashville hot tenders....these were far from tender, they were like a texture between beef jerky and rubber....we did like our sides; mashed potatoes, so we ate those, but were unable to eat the chicken. Ivy asked if we wanted boxes to take the chicken home, I let her know that we were unable to eat the chicken because it was so tough (I wasn't able to tell her until the very end because she was MIA). I told her that we wanted this taken off the bill minus what we ate. She said all she could offer us was 50% off the two plates, at first I thought that was ok, but it was not!
