Had a craving for some barbecue, it just so happened that I was near, "Granzin BarBQ". I wasn't disappointed at all. But upon entering the restaurant you are greeted warmly, you notice a large amount of seating for small groups to larger gatherings the area is rustically decorated with various guitars around the area. They offer a drive thru and a pick up spot for phone in orders I believe. But the most important thing about a restaurant is the food. I kid you not it was very good, you have many options from tacos to meat by the pound with an array of different kinds of sides to choose. On today's episode I chose a chopped brisket sandwich with a macaroni salad. First the sandwich, the brisket was cooked just right, the flavor was amazing and you can add extra bbq sauce to add to your liking, which brought out the flavor to the sandwich. The macaroni salad was equally delicious, a good combination of herbs and ingredients to make it pop in flavor. I had a pleasure to try Granzin Bar-B-Q at a party in New Braunfels last month. We catered in. The employees served us at the party. I am so grateful for the service. Since I am not a diehard meat eater, I only know the flavor and tenderness. The meat seemed smoked well and flavorful. The sauce was definitely unique. The brisket was tender but the sausage was really hard to chew. Not sure if it was made with bison or just overcooked. When I can't eat meat, I dive into the veggies bowl. But I couldn't even swallow the coleslaw. It was not fully marinated. The shredded cabbage was still raw cabbage. I saw more than half tray full of coleslaw after the party and eventually it went to the dumpster. We went out to eat afterwards. read more

I finally tried Granzin Bar-B-Q! I don't know why I never tried it before especially since I had heard how good their tacos were. We got take out and I ordered a chicken taco and side of potato salad. Oh my gosh! The first bite of my chicken taco woke up my senses!!! It was soooo good. Then I worried for a moment thinking I was eating someone else's taco and maybe a brisket one. Checked taco and it was chicken!! It was fully bathed in barbecue sauce without it being messy. It also had pickles and onions. Not sure what made it so good but I do know the proper amount of salt was part of the equation. When I first moved to NB EVERYone told me that Granzin's had the best BBQ in town and I just had to eat there. I guess, it's a local thing? I was not impressed. Not even a little. I tried lunch there twice and it was two times too many. The sauce grossed me out and the meat just was not good. HOWEVER, I have given them a chance for breakfast and that's a different story. I think the first clue, not to walk into the place, was the sign that read "it's the sauce & and the wood". Good bbq should be able to stand on its own, and sauce should only be used to enhance the flavor. That was not the case today. The brisket lacked flavor but was actually tender. The ribs looked to be under a warming light as they were lukewarm and dry (just look at the picture). The chicken was a sliced chicken breast that tasted like, what I call "Sysco" food. The sausage on the other hand was very flavorful and juicy. As for the sides: I loved the potato salad! The beans, mac and cheese were nothing to write home (or here) about. Oh and the sweet sauce, it's ok. The ambiance is that of a bbq restaurant. Ample seating, country decor on the walls but lacked a relish bar. No pickles or onions...maybe I should have asked for them. Cleanliness, well the place was clean but the ice machine/fountain drink machine needs a deep clean. Deep! We've been waiting to try Granzin's for some time. Maybe we should have just waited...you should too. As for our experience in bbq restaurants, we've visited over 100 of them, all over the country. On October 26, 2024 Sat my wife and I drove from San Antonio to Granzin's grocery and meat market. We have always purchased good products and have had good friendly service from the employees. Great place. We then drove to Granzin's BBQ on San Antonio st. Where we had read mixed reviews regarding the restaurant. There were plenty of customers so we figured the place was popular. First of all there was a lone female cashier who also doubled as the Person placing the food orders from the kitchen window to the front counter so orders could be picked up by customers. My wife later went to the counter and asked for a small cup size to go container. The cashier was not friendly at any time and didn't seem to care about us. She told my wife that normally such containers are not made available to customers. My wife even told the cashier we were going to pay for the container. She reluctantly gave a container to my wife also saying she was too busy to tend to our request. I would say she was borderline rude. I am a very easy going person and easy to please. We ordered and shared a 3 meat plate, Brisket, moist brisket and sausage. I'm sorry but all the food was maybe room temperature. The brisket was close to being dry and a little tough. The sausage was sliced and I could tell it had been refrigerated then warmed up a little but not more than room temperature. I hate to say this, but this BBQ experience has to be one of my most disappointing. Please at least have someone in the kitchen supervising the food order prep and applying some quality control. At least serve the meat at the proper serving temp. Also customer service could certainly be improved. I don't know if we will return to Granzin's unless there are some improvements. First time at this place. I had two meat combo with brisket and "country" pork ribs. The brisket was like it was shaved. Very thin. Country pork ribs means cut off the bone. Both were dry so had to add bbq sauce. Not very impressive. I had pintos and cole slaw as sides and they were good. Tea was thin and weak. The girl taking our orders and taking payment was fairly new. Had to ask manager over a couple of times. No biggie. So we all paid and went to our table. The Granzin Taco has changed. They used to put a heaping stack of home cut fries on this taco. They were huge. Now they put a few small potato slices. Very disappointing. Went today for tacos. Long lines are to be expected but I waited. I ordered ten various tacos and sides for my family. When I got my order at the drive thru I went against my better judgment and didn't count the tacos since there were a lot of cars behind me. MI was shorted two tacos that I paid for. This is not a one time problem. This place is notorious for screwing up orders. Service is still terrible. Always check your order if going through drive-thru. One thing that I love about Texas BBQ places is the smoked Turkey breast. Granzin's is a great place to go for lunch because they have daily lunch specials and dinner plates, so you don't have to order your meat by the pound. I enjoy getting the turkey (with no bread) and green beans, which are made the true Southern way with plenty of bacon. Their baked potatoes are huge, and are fantastic topped with brisket. Things look a bit different these days, but Granzin's didn't disappoint. After a day out at the river, we got to sit down in the dining room and enjoy some down home cooking! We ordered the family meal for six. Came with 2 meats (I want to remember a pound and a half each) and 3 sides. We got brisket & sausage with green beans, potato salad & macaroni and cheese. To be quite honest, the sides weren't my favorite. They were all lacking some flavor to me. At least salt and pepper. Which, I didn't bother asking for, so it was what it was. The brisket was tender and yummy and the sausage was Smokey and good too. A side of warm bbq sauce to top off the meaty goodness. Instead of the usual setup where you get your own bbq sauces, drinks, OMG you guys!!! That's what was missing even more!!! Pickles and onions!!!! Since the little side cart wasn't set up, I completely forgot about it!!! Definitely missing those things!! The bread they served was so fresh & soft too! Drinks were served by the young lady behind the plexi glass and counter. It was harder to hear through it and our masks, but we got through it. Been years since I've been here. We were in town and decided to stop in for a meal. This is a bigger location than the original place I used to go to. They now have sit down seating and plenty of room inside and a bit of seating out doors. The parking lot is small. They have a drive thru as well. On first entry, you can smell the smoke, which to me is always the best. The prices are by the half pound, but you can get it a quarter pound at a time. We got a bit of brisket, sausage, tea, beans, and potato salad. Tea is self serve, they have pickles, jalapeños and onions, self serve also. They also have self serve soda. Now for the meats. The brisket was sliced pretty thin, and it had a small smoke ring, you can taste the salt and pepper on the bark. I had order burnt ends, so I can get more of the seasoning and smoke flavor. The ends were not what I expected, it was just sliced brisket, but at the end of the meat. I was expecting chunks of the ends. Plenty of bread to go with the brisket. The sausage was a good size, we cut it into three pieces, three of us sat down to eat, the sausage had a good look to it, but the flavor was very mild. Which isn't bad, just needed more flavor for me. The pork ribs were a good size, not much of a smoke ring, and you can definitely taste the seasoning. My only issue was that the ribs and the sausage were lukewarm at best. I ordered a Granzin taco, it is a flour tortilla with carne guisada, cheese and potatoes. This was the best thing of all the meats we had ordered. The carne guisada had flavor and was tender. The cheese and potatoes were at great addition to the taco. The tortilla was great. Went back and ordered two more tortillas to make brisket tacos for later. I will definitely get this taco again. The beans, were eh, and so was the potatoe salad.
