We met some friends for breakfast at 10:00 AM thinking we would be here after the breakfast crowd and before the lunch crowd. Driving into their large parking lot, and seeing it completely full, let us know that it was going to be packed. Walking inside, we saw it was packed, but they got us seated rather quickly. After getting to our seats, the waitress arrived with menus very quickly and asked if she could start us off with coffee. We took her up on the coffee, and before she came back, we decided what we wanted. We all ordered something completely different, and mine was one of their famous waffles. I also got a side of bacon. The food came pretty quickly considering how packed they were. All orders were just as ordered. My waffle came with syrup and butter on the side so that I could use as much/little as I wanted. Everything was very good, and our waitress never let our coffee mugs get even half empty. She was really good at her job and was also a very good conversationalist. Will I return? Hidden little gem on the square! We needed breakfast and got lucky to find this place before the brunch rush came. The inside is very small but tons of patio seating. Food was really good. The creole eggs were fantastic!!!! They have a small selection of local wines. They aren't my favorite BUT I appreciate the fact they are keeping it local! Cute little country chic cafe here in NB. Service was good. Food was very good. The wrap was amazing, fresh veggies, chicken was tasty. Served with chips and the best ranch! Ordered a side of clam Chowder soup, creamy cup of goodness. Pancake breakfast pretty standard, pancake was so good. Also ordered pancakes and sausage. Sausage was very good. My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in New Braunfels last week to watch our grandson while his parents were out of town for a friend's wedding. One morning we decided to take him and walk around Gruene and eat lunch. There wasn't much going on there, so we got back in the car and headed elsewhere to eat. I had never been to Buttermilk Cafe, but my wife has been several times with the grandson and his parents. I got a little nervous when we went inside. It was a bustling place, and I was concerned that the wait might be too much for the baby. Fortunately, the wait was about five minutes. This place smells like heaven. The food that we ordered was wonderful. I had the house smoked salmon with toast points and a poached egg. My wife had a slice of quiche, an orange muffin, and some fruit. The baby had a turkey sausage patty, one of my toast points, and some of my wife's fruit. Everyone was super friendly. The staff were wearing football jerseys to celebrate the Super Bowl. The avocado toast is one of my favorites of all the ones I've eaten. Friendly staff. Cute decor. Clean. It wasn't perfect, but I'd go again and put it on the rotation of bfast spots. The napkins were new (out of the box) and really needed a good laundering prior to use. read more

I can't tell with words exactly how wonderful this place is. I missed the last time I was visiting, this time I made it. The catfish was fried perfectly as well as the okra and tomatoes. Haven't been to Buttermilk for several years and I'm happy to say it is still the same great quality. I ordered Migas which came with a choice of grits, black beans or potatoes. I chose the potatoes. It comes with your choice of corn or flour tortillas and wrapped in foil which keeps them hot. My husband ordered the 2 egg country breakfast that included their wonderful biscuits. We had the greatest waiter who checked on use without hovering. When we were finished with our meal he asked if I wanted a refill of tea or a to go tea. We had a very good experience during our visit to the Buttermilk Cafe on Valentines Day. I ordered the Migas and they were good but could have used some additional seasoning. My daughter absolutely loved her Coastal Breakfast and the grilled Banana Bread was really good especially with banana walnut syrup. We did put our time to good use as we were able to make our breakfast choices with menus that the host gave us. Been lucky to go on a weekday. It hasn't been busy the last few times i went. I enjoy the biscuits and sausage gravy with coffee. The gravy is in a bowl so you can do as little or as much as you like. The coffee is unlimited so i can down 3 cups especially with the yummy creamer on the side. Our server, Shem, was great! He was very sweet and checked up on us when needed. He immediately answered our requests and also offered gluten free options to all of us, which I was very impressed by!
