Hidden little gem on the square! We needed breakfast and got lucky to find this place before the brunch rush came. The inside is very small but tons of patio seating. Food was really good. The creole eggs were fantastic!!!! They have a small selection of local wines. They aren't my favorite BUT I appreciate the fact they are keeping it local! Next time we're in NB we'll be back!

Cute little country chic cafe here in NB. Service was good. Food was very good. The wrap was amazing, fresh veggies, chicken was tasty. Served with chips and the best ranch! Ordered a side of clam Chowder soup, creamy cup of goodness. Pancake breakfast pretty standard, pancake was so good. Also ordered pancakes and sausage. Sausage was very good. We will definitely be back to try some other tasty dishes to have with that ranch! Needs to be packaged and labeled for sale! We will be back soon!

House smoked salmon with a poached egg and toast points

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying in New Braunfels last week to watch our grandson while his parents were out of town for a friend's wedding. One morning we decided to take him and walk around Gruene and eat lunch. There wasn't much going on there, so we got back in the car and headed elsewhere to eat. I had never been to Buttermilk Cafe, but my wife has been several times with the grandson and his parents. I got a little nervous when we went inside. It was a bustling place, and I was concerned that the wait might be too much for the baby. Fortunately, the wait was about five minutes. This place smells like heaven. The food that we ordered was wonderful. I had the house smoked salmon with toast points and a poached egg. My wife had a slice of quiche, an orange muffin, and some fruit. The baby had a turkey sausage patty, one of my toast points, and some of my wife's fruit. Everyone was super friendly. The staff were wearing football jerseys to celebrate the Super Bowl. Our server was terrific. The patrons were all happy and sociable.

Fried catfish, okra, fried green tomatoes, hush puppies All my favorite things in the world

I can't tell with words exactly how wonderful this place is. I missed the last time I was visiting, this time I made it. The catfish was fried perfectly as well as the okra and tomatoes. My friend was thrilled will the liver and onions. The coffee was hot and filled up when ever I wanted. Service and the atmosphere was so comfortable. We went over to meet some friends at another table and the staff was accommodating. Southern comfort food is the best.

Super small Biscuits But, waiter related they are going back to the old ones.

I ordered the Hash. It was filled with really good meat. There is Complimentary coffee cake on Saturday, fresh and delicious. The coffee is hot, and great. Now... I Almost down graded: The biscuits, were so small, but the waiter related they are returning to the old style biscuits. Be aware, the biscuits are not made in house. But are from a "vendor", whoever that is.

Place is great. I'm from way out west and this place is exactly the Texas breakfast I was looking for in every way. Big pork loin that was perfectly cooked and biscuits and gravy were awesome. Highly recommend this place

My family stopped in around 9am on a Friday, after spending a few days Downtown Gruene. The restaurant was already buzzing ! We were greeted by their wonderful staff right away. Sat immediately. My kids had their hearts set on cinnamon rolls after watching some walk by. They looked heavenly. The mimosa was beautiful. Chicken waffles were very good as well. The restaurant was adorable. The staff couldn't have been more attentive, personable., Friendly. Someone even brought my boys Halloween activity sticker sheets. Come for the food stay, for the amazing hospitality. We really enjoyed our time at Buttermilk Café.

Service was outstanding. Food was also excellent. I had avocado toast and a side of sausage. Delicious!

Bagel and lox with a poached egg. So good!

Food and service were great! Our wait time was longer than they originally told us but we did have a larger party. Loved the bagel and lox with salmon.

Great neighborhood breakfast spot! To start with coffee cake!! The pancakes were fluffy, the eggs and bacon were cooked perfectly, and the portions were generous. Friendly service too--our waitress was wearing a St. Patrick's shirt and my husband (in his Army vet shirt) joked, "Is your name Lucky? My name is Grumpy." We all had a good laugh. Delicious food and a welcoming atmosphere--we'll definitely be back.

We find ourselves traveling for food quite a bit these days and this was the perfect start to our Texas Cave Road Trip....Service was super friendly and attentive...has a old school Diner vibe feel...Wife went with the Country Breakfast with Bacon, Eggs and Toast....The GD went with Biscuits and Gravy....and I went with the Cafe Breakfast with Bacon, SSU Eggs, taters and Toast...Everyone was envious of the potatoes...perfectly seasoned...All of us were fans of the Gravy...made for some great Toast dunking...And the pancakes are a must try...They do serve in a single portion....perfect for sharing...Overall a great visit...definitely recommend this spot.

2 egg breakfast , so reasonably priced

The French toast with strawberries was outstanding--perfectly golden, light and fluffy, topped with fresh strawberries that made every bite delicious. It was easily one of the best breakfast dishes I've had in a long time. The liver and onions were just as impressive. The liver was tender and cooked perfectly, and the caramelized onions brought everything together. It's a classic dish that's hard to find done well these days, and Union Station absolutely gets it right. Great food, generous portions, friendly service, and that genuine small-town charm make this place something special. If you're looking for a local spot that serves quality home-style cooking with people who make you feel welcome, Union Station is well worth the visit. I'll definitely be back!

From the nostalgic tributes to Blue Bell, our armed forces, and the railroad, it felt like stepping back into a patriotic 1940s diner. The warm atmosphere and hometown feel made the experience just as memorable as the food. If you're craving a classic, no-frills breakfast, you won't be disappointed. I ordered the eggs and pork chops. The pork chops could have used just a touch more salt for my taste, but with a light sprinkle at the table, they were absolutely delicious. My daughter ordered the short stack, and those pancakes completely blew us away. They were hands down some of the best pancakes we've ever had and officially earned this diner my new favorite breakfast spot. For those who aren't in the mood for breakfast, they also offer a generous selection of lunch options. My husband ordered the Reuben and thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall, Union Station Diner delivers everything you'd hope for in a small-town diner: welcoming hospitality, comforting food, and a nostalgic atmosphere that makes you want to come back again. If you're passing through, it's absolutely worth the stop.

Last night I finally brought my husband to try it after hyping it up for so long, and unfortunately it was a huge disappointment. Things have definitely changed. I was really looking forward to the chicken fried chicken, only to find out they were completely out of mashed potatoes. For a place known for chicken, that was surprising. So I ended up just sharing some of my husband's meal and our appetizer. The cornbread has always been something I rave about, especially with their hot honey. This time it came out dry, and the hot honey had no heat at all. It just was not the same. My husband's fried chicken was honestly the worst part. It was burnt, with a layer of black under the breading, and tasted like it had been overcooked to the point of being charred. There is no way the kitchen did not see how dark it was before serving it. That said, his sides were still great, so at least part of the meal was enjoyable. Our friend's chicken sandwich was not terrible, but it did not taste fresh like it used to. It felt more like something frozen and heavily breaded instead of the quality we had experienced before. One positive was the service. Our server was wonderful, and the rest of the staff was kind and attentive as well. I accidentally spilled my drink right after it arrived, and they were quick and gracious to replace it even though it was completely my fault. That was very much appreciated. The other issue that really took away from the experience was the atmosphere. Halfway through our meal, a large group of adults sat in the courtyard and had their children sit separately at a table right next to us, while their parents remained in another section of the patio. The kids were clearly having fun and playing games, which is great, but they were also very loud and screaming just a foot away from our table while their parents enjoyed quiet drinks elsewhere. There were completely open sections of the patio farther away where they could have sat, so it was frustrating that they were placed right next to the only other table of adults trying to enjoy a night out. It ended up being very disruptive and took away from what we had hoped would be a relaxing evening. Overall, I was really disappointed. This used to be a place I highly recommended, but after this visit it feels like the quality and attention to detail have slipped. I truly hope they can get back to what made them so great before.
