All the spots in houston and Schulze's bbq is up there with any of them if not the best! I'm starting to wonder if Texas monthly is even a legit thing. Because this place could easily be number one. I'm surprised I've never heard of them because this is some of the best barbecue I've ever had. Some of the best customer service too! I'm so glad I stopped in. This will be my go to every single time when I'm in Seguin, Texas. Food: everything was phenomenal! The brisket was made to perfection absolutely some of the best brisket I've ever had. The jalapeño sausage, I've never had a jalapeño sausage that good! The cheese was bursting out of the seam! The tater salad oh my God! Talk about a blast from the past if you're from Houston Texas, and remember the old Heights camp house BBQ, you will remember they had Camp house potatoes. They tasted exactly the same wow I was so happy to try that because I never thought I'd have a dish like that again in my life. The brisket rice was OK. I probably would get something else. The restaurant is a beautiful location. But it Has some faults. I passed it because it didn't have a sign on the actual building. The food is okay, not bad just okay. The dining room was very clean. Staff very nice. You can tell they are trying to learn the craft of Texas bbq. The staff don't seem to be in communication with each other. I saw some white lady that just looked angry behind the counter I'm assuming is the owner. Now, I did have VERY high expectations for this place because I have been a long time follower of 90 West barbecue since they first began. I know Jesus and Robin moved to this location. With that said I had high hopes the food would have came along with them, which by visual plating, and taste it absolutely did not. I honestly felt them two would have easily been brought this place on the top 50 bbq list and that got me so excited to make the drive out to try it. I did ask for Jesus but they said he was off when we went by. That surprised me they always work! I've been to Schultz's Pit Room a number of times, and this one is tough to write because the food really is that good. The ribs are some of the best I've had anywhere, and I've lived in several states where BBQ is serious business. The potato salad is also on point every time. That said, the last few visits have been frustrating enough that I probably won't be coming back, which is honestly disappointing. The past three times we've come in, they've been out of mac and cheese by around 7pm. That's a staple side, so seeing it consistently unavailable feels like a miss. On top of that, the portion consistency has changed. The two meat plate is listed as 1/4 lb per meat, but what we've been served lately is one slice of brisket and one rib, compared to earlier visits where we'd get closer to two slices and two ribs. It just doesn't line up with the expectation or the price. Speaking of price, we spent $89 for three people, which would be fine if portions and availability matched what's advertised. Also tried the green beans for the first time. Unfortunately, they were the worst part of the meal by far. Our original lunch plans fell through the our fellow yelpers helped us find this place. Parking was pretty easy, they had a decent sized lot with plenty of spaces. It's counter style and the woman taking our order was so kind! We ordered the brisket, 2 types of sausage and the warm potato salad. After we ordered, we got our drinks and found a table. There was plenty of seating the staff were really nice. They did an extra wipe down of our table to ensure it was clean enough. When our food came, that was all she wrote. And if you dare write a review the owner will chastise you for not giving it five stars. But here the food has flavor the brisket was tender and juicy. Listening to a song and eating a sausage that hits the nostalgia of my formative years growing up in San Diego. The pieces of burger patties, pickles, bun, onions and fries were all one singular unit but you could taste and feel each as you bite. All bound together with the sausage spices. The fries! As I was biting it was giving California Burrito as well maybe because of the form and it being filled out with fatty beef. I've had two "religious experiences" with sausage in my life and both have been in Seguin, Tx. Trying to explore the local places that have barbecue. This is one of the good ones. I had the brisket sandwich. The wife had the brisket potato, the only meat they had at 6:30 on a Monday was brisket and the wife got the last potato so you might want to get here early if you want more choices. The meat was flavorful. It was very tender. However there is no evidence of a smoke ring. I believe they cook it in advance and refrigerate it, taking it out and use it as needed. There really isn't anything wrong with that and if you always want to have some meat available that's probably the best way to do it. The alternative is keeping it out under the hot lights which just dries it up or having what you have until you run out. The fries are coated which is a disappointment to me so I passed on those. The wife thought the potato, fully loaded with the brisket, was very tasty and she enjoyed it. Besides the lack of selection at that time of day, the only other downside was they're putting chairs up on the tables before 7:00, more than an hour before they closed. I understand the expediency but I do not appreciate the way it feels like they're saying: " hurry up and get out of here." Some places offer an assortment of barbecue sauces from mild to the very hot and other places have one idea what the barbecue sauce should be like and that's what they offer. This is a place where they only have one. It wasn't bad sauce but I prefer having options The place is pretty clean and the ordering process is very efficient. They give you a buzzer and when your food's ready you go pick it up when your buzzer goes off. I recently visited this restaurant and had a mixed experience. The service was OK - not bad, but not particularly attentive either. The food itself taste good, and I ordered the pork belly with rice special, which I enjoyed. However, the portion size did not match the price, and it felt overpriced for what was served. The biggest issue during our visit was a seating situation. The restaurant was extremely crowded, and no indoor tables were available. Unfortunately, we had to sit outside on the patio. Normally this wouldn't be a problem, but the weather that day was 43°, cold very windy. We were dining with small children, and the restaurant did not have any outdoor heaters or warming options. Because of this our food became cold very quickly, which took away from the overall experience. It was confusing that the patio was even open without any heating accommodations and such cold weather. Additionally, there were several large groups from a local church who appeared to have reserved any of the indoor tables. While reservations are understandable, it made the restaurant feel effectively closed to walk in customers. It might be helpful for management to better balance reservations with public seating so that other guests are not left without reasonable options. Overall, the food quality was good, but the pricing seating logistics in the lack of preparation or cold weather made the visit essential bill then it could have been and most likely we won't visit this restaurant again read more

I ordered a Combo plate, with sausage & brisket - my husband a 3-meat plate of sausage, fatty brisket and pork ribs. It's an easy order at the counter, pay and they give you a buzzer to pick up at the food counter behind the registers. The sausage was most excellent, perfect texture and well seasoned in my opinion. Even my husband loved the sausage and that says a LOT! Order the Schulze 'potato salad', it's a loaded baked potato made into a salad. Very delicious. Macaroni & cheese is supposed to be made with in-house queso, was okay. Beans were amazing! Very well-seasoned. Notice how I am focused on the sides. I love BBQ, except the brisket & ribs here at Schulze's did not hit for me or my husband. Beautiful presentation on the ribs but not enough flavor. The brisket was mediocre at best. Schulze's Pit Room is one of the best barbecue places I can remember. I walk in, and am immediately greeted with cries of "Welcome!" and giant smiles from each and every one of the staff members. The man who took my order was extremely nice, even when I went back to him to turn on the Spurs vs. Knicks Championship game (to which he extremely kindly told me that the game was on tomorrow, not today, and made an effort to show me on his phone), then went back to him and asked him for barbecue sauce, and then went BACK to him to ask for bread. All three times, he never got annoyed with me and stayed very nice, despite the fact he was probably very annoyed. As for ambiance, I absolutely love the modern BBQ vibe it's going for. It makes for a really nice aesthetic, and the overall cleanliness was great. The men's bathroom was extremely clean as well, as well as being very nice. Now, the food was not lacking, either, as the brisket was some of the best brisket I've ever had, and the mac adn cheese was spot on. I also got a side of corn, which was very good. If you don't like barbecue, don't worry, though-my brother got a burger that he labeled as "top 5 burgers I've ever had" (and he's had a lot). Walking out the door, the entire staff once again turned to me, smiled, and said, "Thank you so much for coming!" Overall, I can't express what a great experience this was. The only thing relatively good was a corn casserole. It had whole kernels in there in a cornbread base and that was mighty tasty. The service here was courteous and prompt, but not really friendly just cordial. There were quite a number of people at the time that I went and there was about a 15 to 20 minute wait for the food which they did tell us in advance as we placed our order and that was OK cause when you want barbecue you're willing to wait especially if it's good but when it's not, it's extremely disappointing, needless to say we were disappointed. We were in Seguin for my granddaughters 3 day softball tournament and it was so good that we ate there twice. We ate brisket, sausage ( fantastic), southwest chicken, & turkey. I think they made a mistake and gave us the jalapeno cheese sausage instead of regular sausage. But the jalapeno cheese sausage was very good. But the star of the show is their brisket. A good bark, a nice smoke ring, and the meat was tender and moist. Very good smoke penetration. They have a nice peppery barbecue sauce that compliments the brisket nicely. Finally made it here after passing by forever, and it was worth the wait. My wife had the brisket and sausage and will review them on her own, but I tasted both and they were very good. I wanted to try the southwest chicken but they were out, so I tried the BBQ chicken instead. It was moist and flavorful, and the BBQ sauce was very good. I tried the "butter potatoes " which were a buttery flavorfest. Great food at a good price, nice little bar tucked in the back, nice outdoor seating area and the young man who took our meat order was very slick with the knife. My only wish would be that they had traditional 2 or 3 meat plates, as I love brisket, turkey, chicken and sausage and hate having to choose just one. read more
