11/19/2017 I first heard of this place from an event that they hosted. My daughter and I came here because it sounded like it would be fun and interesting. NOT!! We should have left when I noticed that we were the only ones there! One other person showed up, but she left after waiting for awhile for the event to start. We listened to several people speak about: how to color a picture/apply make-up and eyebrows. The eyebrow person wanted to "fix" my eyebrows and I ended up with shaved eyebrows that I never asked for. I guess there was a communication issue... I guess. I said I was okay with her doing my eyebrows, but I NEVER consented to her shaving them. It's been almost a month now since that horrible incident, and my eyebrows haven't grown back in yet, only a few hairs here and there. Now I have to spend extra time in the AM getting ready for work just to deal with doing my eyebrows. What a nightmare!! Thank goodness I saved my daughter from the same nightmare. That eyebrow person was about to shave off a little of her eyebrow also!! WTH!!! Can you imagine what that would have been like dealing with a teenager and a shaved eyebrow?!?! I got an email from Josephine (owner of the shop), but no solution so far on my brows. I did get a free appointment to have my eyelashes done, but I'm afraid to go in case I lose those also. By FARRRR one of the best places to go to get purteeeed up -- not just in Pas but in LA! I've been to plenty of these lash salons that are popping up left and right but Novalash is def one of the better lines to use and she's got it perfected -- particularly for Asians -- super natural and easy to maintain I've had other places do a good job but I've also experienced some discomfort in the past from others nova "experts" that seem to rush through the process just so they can move onto their next client. It's like, yes, of course my eye would water n twitch if I can feel u tugging on mine. I don't think ive ever felt discomfort here. Actually, I know I haven't cause I sometimes even fall asleep while she's working on me Hahaaa First time coming here I was able to see the back to back diff of the weight(circumference?) of each placement and these are far lighter (less weight on each of ur naturals) and gives a fuller look. However, as you can choose the style of the look you're going for, you can also let her know if ur looking for a more dramatic/less "everyday" look and I'm sure she'd accommodate. The first time I came in, she sat with me on the couch for a few minutes asking me about what I like/dislike, if I have a history with extensions, and other small talk. As it turns out, she chats with you so that she could figure out how your eyes/head move as you talk-- this helps her figure out what kind of eyelashes (length and thickness) to recommend. Furthermore, she fully explains everything that she does and answers all questions honestly. She uses an incredibly strong, safe glue and I can honestly say that the eyelash extensions here are the best I've ever had. I've tried 3 other locations prior to this. You could rub your eyes and none of them come off! When the lashes do come off, your own real ones don't. The first time took about 2 hours, which is pretty lengthy. The service itself can take about 2 hours from start to finish. This varies somewhat, based on how many lashes you already have. Unlike other eyelash specialists, Josephine attaches lashes to just about EVERY lash you have. She was very thorough and knowledgeable. She walked me through the entire process of what she was doing. This made me feel very comfortable. After the extensions had been applied, she taught me how to care for them. I was interested in getting lash extensions because a few friends had been doing it, and I found a Groupon for Blankstein's. They had amazing reviews on Yelp, so I picked it over another place that was closer to my house. That first day, I sat down with Josephine (main artist and owner) and we talked about what I wanted to do - she showed me the different looks, "natural, "eye opener", "cat eye" etc, and went over expectations of maintenance. I'm a healthcare provider, and I wanted lashes that weren't too crazy, but still allowed me to look good while spending as little time as possible getting ready in the morning. And plus I figured that if I didn't like the maintenance of it (no oil-based makeup or eye products), it was still worth a try with the Groupon discount. And now, SIX months later, I guess I am a little obsessed! I've been consistently getting them refilled every 2-3 weeks, and I switched over to Joyce, the other main artist, due to her schedule being more suitable to mine (she's there on Saturdays). Both Josephine and Joyce are absolutely wonderful; they really make you feel comfortable, they are super detailed and meticulous with their work, and they really care about your satisfaction. There was one time when my lashes fell out super quickly after a session, and I contacted Joyce about it, and she immediately scheduled me to come in and redid them for me, no extra charge. She also pays attention to how my own natural lashes behave - she'll put lighter, shorter extensions if my own lashes seem to be starting a new growing cycle and are more fragile. So if you're looking to get extensions, definitely give this place a try, you won't regret it. They have never made my eyes water, I am able to wash my face regularly, and treat them like normal lashes! I booked close to my wedding day and they were able to fit me in for a trial the week before. Their studio is located on the second floor next to the carpet store and is very cozy and inviting. It's my first time experience of painting. I was nerves when I got in this class, kinda shy to drawing and worry it will come horrible look. I have to thank the instructor, she just so good to made the workshop so fun and laughter. My sister and I have been going to Josephine for various services in the last 1 year. My sister took her make up classes last summer. It includes how to choose the right skin/make up products, 10min speed make up, red carpet make up, and etc. Josephine is very professional and shows each person how to bring up their unique figures. The classes are fun, informational, and lots of laughters! I also did a few painting class at Josephine's studio. She invited another painting instructor to teach the class. She often assisted the flow of the class and made everyone feels like home. During the class, I learned to to mix different colors. The instructor would give you personal attention on your drawing. I enjoyed the painting class and created beautiful drawings to bring home. Lashes extension is another specialty that Josephine is excellent at! I've been getting lash extensions off and and on for several years and this is, by far, the best place I've been to. Josephine is a consummate master artist in every sense of the word; the salon (newly relocated) is a lovely space : clean, bright, warm and inviting. Her additional services at the salon also include hairstyling (think updo's and party hair), high end makeup, and a variety of "etiquette" classes. This is not the rock bottom cheapest place, but the quality shows in both appearance and the time your lashes will remain beautiful. They last and last. Having Josephine do my make up for my wedding was an investment I was so proud of myself for making. Before the wedding, I had given her some pictures of the look I wanted, and on the day of, not only was her execution on point, it was more than what I had imagined. She was professional, knowledgeable, gentle, supportive, and she knows exactly how to use her skills to help you achieve the look you want for your special day. Even before I met her, just talking to her on the phone and listening to her advice on how to prep my skin and face before my big day, I could tell she was someone who really cared and is passionate about what she is doing. She doesn't just show up, she plans, prepares and asks questions to make she understands your vision so she can make it happen for you. And knowing that gave me so much peace of mind and comfort. On the day of my wedding, she was on time and even brought a professional make up light stand to make sure everything was colored and blended perfectly. She understands lighting and photography so she isn't just making sure you look great in person, but also on camera. Through out the process, she would check in to make sure I was comfortable and satisfied with the work, and also give me her professional advise when I wasn't sure so I could make decisions. She did my hair, my face, my eyelashes, and even helped me with my dress! By the end of the whole process, I was so excited because she completely transformed me and made me feel so glamorous and beautiful! It had my mom, aunties, and bridesmaids gasping when they saw me. I am somewhat new to Pasadena and I was looking for a good men's hair stylist. My previous haircut was a complete disaster so I was a little apprehensive about my next hair stylist. After researching many nearby salons, I saw that Blankstein's Beauty & Style had several good reviews posted. Josephine was wonderful to me and I immediately felt that I had made the right choice. Josephine and her men's hair specialist, Monika, were very attentive, asking about the type of hairstyle I would like. Usually a stylist just asks if I'd like a trim and how long or short. But here, we had a lengthy conversation about where I would prefer it longer and where I'd like it shorter. Monika was very detailed and meticulous with my haircut. She took her time and asked questions during the process to make sure I was getting what I wanted. I thought it might take another haircut or two to correct the mistake of my previous hairstylist, but Monika did such a good job on the first try! I am very satisfied. I have always wanted eyelash extensions but was always skeptical in getting it because I was scared of the maintenance and what will happen after it starts falling off. Josephine explained to me the process and how eyelash extensions are applied and that every one of her client's set of eyelash extension is customized to the individual depending on their natural lashes to get the best results. The studio is located in Pasadena on the second floor of a building and there is a small parking lot in the back on Union St. The whole process took about 2 hours and the atmosphere was very comfortable and clean. Josephine was very gentle making sure that you didn't feel uncomfortable during the process. I have pretty sensitive eyes and besides the slight irritation from the fumes of the glue during application everything else was very pleasant. To my surprise the maintenance is a lot less than I thought it would be. It takes a couple of day to get use to because you don't want to rub on your eyes when you wash your face or anything. I have had my extensions for about 6 weeks now and I still have about 30% of it left which is amazing! I know friends that have gotten extension at other places that only lasted about 2 weeks. I guess the saying you get what you pay for is correct! I will definitely be going back soon to get my refills because I have been able to cut down my morning routine to about 5 min. I no longer have the need to wear eye makeup on a daily basis because the extensions are enough to open up my eyes to make me look more awake.
