Lomo saltado is hands-down the most delicious entree at Blend. So flavorful! Meat is tender and not dry. I've never liked lomo at any other restaurants so I was hesitant to get this. I had myself a cute little solo date at Blend! This is my second visit and it was just as good as the first. This is a Latin Fusion restaurant located in Long Island City. I recommend taking public transportation if you can because parking can be a nightmare. I came by on a Saturday evening and was seated immediately. I made it JUST in time before Happy Hour ended at 7pm. I started off with a Margarita ($9), my absolute favorite cocktail. The tequila was swimming in this one. I think the bartender might've gone too hard with the lime juice because it was too sour/tart for my taste. Not a bad drink overall! Their menu offers dishes inspired by a variety of Latin American countries, but there's a heavy focus on Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, and Colombian food. Bistec, pernil, churrasco, tostones, arepas, mofongo, paella, tacos... they have a lot of variety with reasonable prices! For my entree, I ordered the Pernil ($19) which came with yellow rice, black beans, tostones, and sauce. This did not stand a CHANCE against my appetite. I inhaled this meal within minutes LOL. The portion size was more than enough for a hungry gal. The pernil (Cuban style pulled pork) was slow roasted for 12 hours and marinated. It was tender, juicy, and absorbed all of the rich flavors from the marinade - garlicky, citrusy, and smoky. The yellow rice (fluffy and savory) and black beans (meaty and earthy) were cooked perfectly. And the tostones?! Golden and crispy on the outside with just the right amount of sea salt! No complaints on the service. The servers checked in on me frequently. My order came out quickly. I was in and out of there in less than 40 minutes. [[HIGHLIGHT]]I highly recommend checking this spot out if you're in the area! I was skeptical about trying this Blend since I did not have great experiences in the other Blend locations in either Long Island City nor Astoria. As soon as we entered, they have a nice full bar to the right and have the walls decorated with post card looking frames from different countries. Our waitress was very nice and attentive. She took our food and drink orders quickly. I ordered a passion fruit margarita which was very good and two poached eggs on arepas. The potatoes it came with were seasoned and cooked perfectly. The eggs on the arepas were heavenly; the arepa was sweet and salty and paired perfectly with the yoky eggs. They say my boyfriend happy birthday and gave him an ordered of bread pudding with vanilla ice cream on top which was the perfect way to finish the meal. I love this restaurants food in general and this location on Vernon Avenue in LIC is probably my favorite location. Why? Because it's a bit more low key and the music isn't loud. Pretty much easy goin. I had the Pollo a La Plancha (Grilled Chicken) with Tostones and white rice and a side of Avocado. I finished it off with their Flan which was super delicious as well. Had a great time having dinner here with my boyfriend! We got sopes and chorizo empanada for appetizer. Sopes was like very delicious corn bread with cream and salsa and just yumness all over it. Empanada had a very pungent corn-ish flavor to the outside of it that went very well with the chorizo. The sauce was also very flavorful. Then the main dish Ropa Vieja...... I WOKE UP when I took the first bite. I don't know how to explain it. Flavor bomb and texture heaven. That's what this was. I had the Worlds Famous Flan for dessert. Although Blend has other locations (Astoria, by the water) my go to will always be their LIC location on Vernon blvd. The vibe, music, friendly staff, and absolutely delicious PR fusion food is top notch. Bathrooms (2 gender neutral) are kept clean which is very much appreciated. They have specials Monday - Thursday; I went on a Monday night and took advantage of their Monday all night happy hour drink specials ($7 per drink). My group and I had their sangrita and mojitos. Sangrita is a frozen mix of the margarita and sangria, one drink you are good, two drinks, who knows where the night will lead! As far as food, my o my their dishes are great. We got the chicken tenders/fries and Mango juice off the kids menu for our little one. The fries were string fries, crunchy and good flavor. The chicken tenders were good too and the Mango juice got rave reviews. We got a chicken empanada from the appetizers, although on the smaller size for a $4 empanada, it is full of flavor and comes with a tasty dipping sauce. Main dishes we went with the vegan bowl ($12), arroz con pollo ($17), and pollo a la plancha ($19). Some of their prices increased from the last time I came, but their portions and flavor stays consistent (which not all restaurants stay true to). Everyone gave two thumbs up for their meals and as usual, I absolutely love the pollo a la plancha; rice, beans, maduros, and a breast of chicken sliced and covered in a kick ass lemon butter sauce. My group surprised with a birthday flan, they gobbled it up and it had whipped cream drops around the plate. I've been to Blend on the Water and decided to try this location. This restaurant is a little more laid back and less expensive than Blend on the Water. My mom, granddaughter and I went for lunch on a Saturday afternoon. The place was busy but not terribly so. started with a glass of sangria which was delicious! Nice and strong just the way I like it, much better than most places where I've had sangria. We started with an appetizer of Camarones Al Ajillo, shrimp in a butter and garlic sauce with a side of bread. The first thing I noticed is how long it took to get the appetizer - we waited a good twenty minutes or so for it to come out. The shrimp didn't have any taste, but the sauce was good. For entrees I had the Churrasco, my mother ordered the Ropa Vieja and I order chicken fingers and fries for my granddaughter. I have to say I was so disappointed in the food......The chicken fingers and fries were fried so hard the chicken was dry - it was way overcooked (see picture below). The churrasco, although cooked to a perfect medium, again had NO taste, no seasoning, no nothing. The sauce it came with helped it out a little but not by much. It came with white red, black beans and plantains - they were ok. My mother said her Rope Vieja was ok but she's had better. We had the appetizer platter (very good), ropa vieja (my wife's is much better), and a Cuban sandwich (nothing like the one from Versailles in Miami). Came for drinks with a friend on a weekday Thursday shortly after work. I believe on Thursdays they have $7 martinis and was shocked to find out they had lychee martinis. These were so good, the place wasn't super packed and my friend and I were able to catch up. He got some food and said it was pretty decent but I think $7 martinis were such a good deal. Blend is pretty much a Vernon Blvd / Waterfront staple. Very good Latin food at a reasonable price. Actually surprised I hadn't reviewed this yet as I've definitely dined there in the pre-covid times. Anyways, since then, I've ordered take-out from there several times and now they do offer fairly substantial outdoor dining. Thus far, nothing really has disappointed. From the assortment of empanadas (get the sampler), the polla a la plancha, and the ropa vieja...it's all delicious! And if you're ever walking the waterfront these days, you'll see plenty (I mean A LOT) of folks enjoying the mixed drinks and frozen beverages available in to-go form, so you know their cocktail game is on point. They also have a sister restaurant, Blend on the Water...on the waterfront (coincidence? perhaps.)
