We ordered a half of chicken family combo, breaded chicken platter, 2 chicken empanadas and a mini bandeja paisa which came out to $65. It was reasonably priced and the food was done by the time we got there. The food was delicious and tasted like homemade. They gave big portions and i thought it was definitely worth the price. One complaint: i ordered a Picada to go; normally a picada consists of chicharron, steak, chicken, morzilla, yuca, arepa, chorizo, potatoes, & plantain... the picada i was given, for FIFTY DOLLARS BTW ($50) was only given carne, pollo, small amounts of chicharron & very few arepas.. the majority amount was chicken & steak.. very disappointed. read more

The food was really flavorful and delicious. The rice and beans was excellent. The meats were well made and large quantities. The service was friendly for the most part. There was one waitress who looked annoyed when we requested a few items extra. The food came very quickly and hot. The tipping was annoying. The suggested rate started at 18%. I was going to give 15% but the food was excellent so I gave them the 18%. The ambience was clean but loud (it is a Latin restaurant full of family and music). I stopped by here for lunch and the flavors were delicious! I ordered a passion fruit juice that tasted exactly like passionfruit. It was almost like a slushie which I appreciated. It was really refreshing and then I ordered 1/2 roasted chicken with rice and beans. The order also came with Maduros. The plantains were sweet and flavorful. I really considered ordering a side order. I also ordered the beef empanada and loved that it had potato in it with the beef. I would definitely go back. The portions were large. The days of La Pollera Colorada (#1) are no more. And I for one, am quite sad about it. I'm not sure who Mario is, but what he's currently got is a very washed down version of what used to be here. And to no surprise, they're charging quite a bit more for lackluster Colombian for a place that was at one point, among the best in the hood. From an interior standpoint, nothing has changed. The same decor, along with the same cramped seating, artwork. Groups of 4 would work best here as the booths can only fit so many folks. They're big on delivery and takeout and staff here is mainly Spanish speaking. I wish they would smile a little more. The menu feels exactly the same as its predecessor. At one point in time, their rotisserie chicken was my favorite in the neighborhood. Now their pollo a la brasa is still good, but something feels different. The crema de pollo is still one of their best items and their bandeja campesina isn't as abundant as it was before. The markup on almost all items is pretty evident though, it'll only be a matter of time before the bandeja platters are all $20 each. Despite the fact I feel they've taken a step back overall, I'm still happy that Pollera is still around, even as Mario. They might not have better rotisserie chicken than the Peruvian spots around Sunnyside, but they still stand tall for their unique take on Colombian fare. read more

The rice and beans were bland and sort of watered down. The chicharron was crispy but dry and a bit rubbery. The beef was just ok. Nothing really special about it or any of it. So I decided to try their Monday Tripe Tripe special. Obviously I did not know the difference between the two Colombian and Mexican tripe cooking styles. Since the doughnut planet Mardi Gras donut didn't fill me up, I had $7 in my pocket literally and no wallet on me. It became a cheap eats challenge! I went with a friend years ago to a Columbian restaurant in Sunnyside but I could never find it again. All I remember is the mango with milk drink which is delicious Guess what? The restaurant I stopped to look at for empanada is the one my friend took me too! There are 5 2-4 people seating on the left and 5 4-6 people seating on the right. Empanada - beef or chicken for $1.50 Mango with Milk (leche) is $3.75 Estimated cost: $5.25 - success! Actual cost: $5.99 (guessing tax 8.75% but it should be $5.71) Not going crazy for $0.28 when I am able to find cheap food that fills me up and makes my tummy happy. The mango drink didn't have the same strong mango flavor but still good. The empanada is even better than I remember (crispy crust and good filling). Have to try the chicken next time. There was a bit of a wait for the food so it gave me time to yelp. Didn't go to the restroom so can't comment. Metered parking in front and residential street parking on the side. Check the street signs. PS I liked it so much I went back for the tostones con guacamole and passion fruit with milk. The tostones are huge! Need a bit more guacamole since I over applied...so good. The food is exceptional! My family is Colombian and I grew up in queens and this place has some of the best Colombian food we've had. The beans are amazing and the seasoning on the carne asada is so good - both indicators of great Colombian food. Weekday night, looking to grab a meal with a friend that just moved to Sunnyside. At his request, he wanted to check out the nearest Colombian food joint because it happened to be their day of independence. He shared this place with me, and we agreed to grab dinner there. Really impressed! When I arrived, my friend already had a table for us. I noticed that the place maybe could fit 25 people at most, and there were about 10 people in there at the time. After being seated at the table and getting two nice cold glasses of water, we both took some time to plan out what we wanted to order. After arriving at a decision, we placed our orders and got the plates maybe 15 minutes afterwards. The meats were cooked in the authentic Colombian style, and the rice and beans tasted just like the ones you'd find in a traditional Colombian home. The differently cooked plantains we shared were both tasty in their own way. The portions, for the price points, were very reasonable. We both loved the food, and walked out of the place ready to grab some drinks! Definitely would go back to this place. read more

Straight out delicious Columbian food. I ordered their mountain plate that included steak, chicharron, rice, beans avocado, arepa and fried egg. I especially love their beans it's made with small chunks of plantains and pork all cooked together till it is a creamy yummy texture. Their tostones is one of my guilty pleasures, plantains deep fried an smashed really thin and fried again till they are crispy crunchy eaten with hot sauce. I have to say that the last time I was here it was a complete disappointment. It was so bad I stopped coming here completely. Their portions were really small and the food was not cooked well. Now, It's a complete turnaround. Not too long ago they closed and had a for rent sign on their window. I feel that they reorganized themselves. Since they reopened, their food is as I remembered it, delicious plus their portions are back to normal size. I think they got their original cook back or hired a really good cook. Dined in one morning and ordered the "Special Breakfast" which came with a thin slice of steak, chorizo, eggs, plantain, a "pizza" (more like a cracker) topped with cheese, and rice and beans. Since this was my first time here, I thought that the variety of this one meal would tell me a lot about this place. I also ordered a Chicken Empanada on the side as a bonus. First impressions: It was about an hour and a half after opening and the place was empty. Three or four televisions on the walls, but no customers to watch them. Waste of electricity if you ask me. A chaotic mix of sounds to set the atmosphere. Traditional (or out-of-date) decor and dark colors gave off a somewhat depressing vibe. Sticky tables under my forearms. I thought the pictures on the menu didn't do the food justice... until the food actually came. Probably one of the worst meals I ever had. The chorizo was dry on the inside and thus not fresh. No squirt when you first bite into it. The eggs, which were mixed with vegetables, were bland and overcooked. The "pizza" was as dry as the Eucharist you'd get from church, but at least that has a bit more flavor. Even with cheese, it was stale to the max. In contrast to the dryness, the rice and beans were tooo damn moist, to the point of mushiness. The steak and plantains were the only good parts of the dish, but they were only decent. And the empanada... oh, the empanada... that too was dry, especially around the edges. The edges felt like... something hard you'd get out of the microwave after leaving it in for too long. I couldn't figgen believe it. Every bite I only imagined the state of the kitchen where these different ingredients came from. I'm usually forgiving but this place had huge testicles to serve me that food. Either they didn't care, they were completely ignorant, or they were trying to kill me. Either way, it was a 1 star experience. Not even 1.5. One! Uno! Should be zero! It was that sucky. It was so bad that I actually started to feel sick to my stomach in the middle of it, and I had a "lump of coal" feeling that sat in my stomach for the rest of the day. read more

I've been a customer of this place for a long time and TODAY they lost me as a customer, they really messed up. I ordered the lunch of the day which is fish and it comes with rice and beans, the lady on the phone confirmed that's how it comes, when I repeated the order back to her I said again "fish with rice and beans". When I get my order it comes with POTATOES and rice so I call the restaurant and explain to them confusion, the lady says "I'm sorry, you'll get your beans in 10-15 min. 40 minutes passed so I called again and guess what's their answer: "I'm sorry but the kitchen says the fish comes with rice and potatoes so you're not getting the beans" So first when I placed the order I was clearly TOLD and CONFIRMED that it was rice and BEANS and second they LIED to me and made wait 40 minutes THINKING I WAS GETTING THE BEANS??? What's wrong with this place????? I'm colombian so I always make my office order from this place, and every time I have family in town I take them there but now you lost a couple of customers because of your HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE ! When I told her about my order she was confused and then saw my grub hub order sitting there. I was told to wait ten minutes for my food. This is completely unacceptable. This place has amazing food, it's a shame that they don't follow any type of covid safety other than the servers wearing a mask. But even then it's not consistent. They have patrons walking through the restaurant and as I'm writing this review a man just had a coughing attack on his way to the bathroom with no mask on. I've been eating from this place for over 20 yrs. Lately, their food is horrible. I ordered a "picada" and 5 whole chickens for guest. I specifically asked for extra potatoes, I got 2 pieces. The whole platter looked like it was 2 day old food that was just reheated. The tostones were dried and hard, the yuca was also dry and hard. The chicharrón was like a brick and the steak and chicken were disgusting. It was so bad that I didn't serve it to my guests $38 down the drain because the restaurant does nothing about complaining customers. The 5 chickens, I asked for them not to be overly cooked because the last few times they were dry and hard... well, I got 5 chickens that were a waste too. $110 down the drain. Love pollera I've been coming here since a teenager aka over a decade ago when it was called la pollera Colorada. Anyways under new management their frijoles (beans) are yummy full of flavor.
