We arrived around 2pm and it wasn't too busy. Parking was free. The admission price was $30 for adults. Kids 2 and under are free, discount if you purchase online. We thought it was a good value as my son could ride the rides unlimited. He loved the slide and unicorn rides. He was too small for most of them unfortunately. There was a wizard of Oz show and he loved that as well. The food was better than expected. When we left around 4pm there wasn't a wait for any of the rides or picture spots. The Momence Gladiolus Festival (the gladiolus are locally grown here) is a 5 day celebration that brings out the locals and neighboring towns folks and city slickers like myself to join in on the fun. There's events such as the princess and queen coronations, the flea, craft, and antique market, a classic car show, parades (kiddie parade on Friday and the main parade on Saturday), carnival and live music. It's a very family friendly event for the present and generations to come. I'm proud that it's a part of my family and in-laws tradition. The parade features local businesses and area high school marching bands decorated in, if you guessed Gladiolus, then you were right on the money. Music is upbeat and there's rarely if ever a dull moment during the main parade. The flea market is a great time to walk the park and see the interesting wares the vendors are selling. The classic car show is fun to see for all ages as well. The carnival is such a nostalgic novelty that it never ceases to remind me of my own childhood days. If it's small town family fun, then you need to load up the family and head on down to the next Momence Gladiolus Festival if you haven't already done so.

The farm is located about an hour away from the city, The whole experience was magical. My husband and two friends went together and we loved it. We cannot wait to come back and do another dinner next year. You can get to the farm a little earlier, grab a drink (not included - you do need to pay for any alcoholic beverages), and walk around. Once most of the guest list arrives, the family will tell you about their history of how they got into farming and take you on a tour of the farm. They have a very unique way of farming which they explain in their tour. It was really inspiring hearing the story of the husband and wife who own the farm and how they started the dinner series. After the tour, you get a chance to grab another drink and start to get seated on this very long table that is outside amongst the trees. The idea is "farm to table" with locally sourced foods from the area and from the farm and the idea of building community connections where you can connect with those seating near you! Our chef did such a wonderful job with the menu and incorporating local ingredients. The chef took time to talk to as many guests as possible and the chef we met had such a unique story of how he had become a chef through all his personal struggles. Throughout dinner, there is live music playing in the background and you can get your drinks refilled. Once dinner is done, you get a chance to grab smores, and roast them by the fire. You can spend the time enjoying the night sky/stars and head out when you are ready. When we were sitting near the fire, we met a couple who had been coming here since the farm opened. They mentioned that there is even a summer camp for kids to learn farming skills and use the time to unplug from the busy city. There seems to be events all year around as well that are family focused. All in all, this is worth supporting and expericining!

Today I completed my second 5k. Pretty much everything that I didn't like about my first 5k wasn't…read moreexistent for this one. The weather was perfect and so was everything else about it. Pros: -The run and walk were separate routes so there was no problems with trying to pass those going slower than you. We started at the back of the pack and were neck in neck with a few other runners but never had any trouble passing. No congestion whatsoever. -There were volunteers every 1/2 a mile or so, encouraging and making sure no one went off course. They made us feel really excited and push it even harder, so thank you to them! -We ran through Perry Farm which was a beautiful course. Side note: the track looped around. Since we stayed near the end most of the race, we got lapped and saw the super fast runners before we had even hit a mile and a half. It didn't phase me though because everyone has to start somewhere. (We also knocked almost 9 minutes off our time from our first 5k, so nothing could get me down.) -Pizza, bananas and water were all given at the end. Woohoo! I devoured a slice of that pizza in about 12 seconds. -Race cost was only $20 + another 3-4 dollars to register online. Super affordable for everything that you got. My first race cost $40 in Chicago and we didn't even get free shirts, which brings me to my next pro: -The first 50 people registered got dri-fit shirts. The rest of the people got tee-shirts. We were in the first 50, so we got the dri-fit ones. They are super nice and probably worth a lot more than $20. My hubby ran in his and loved it. -We also got a coupon in our bag for a free frappe or smoothie from McD. That's pretty much the only thing that I like from McD so i'm geeked :-) -Event started on time. We are the people that are always early, so showing up early then having to wait another 20-30 minutes for the race organizers to get their stuff together is annoying. That didn't happen at all. When they said GO, it was 7:31 AM. Cons: -Honestly, there were none as far as I'm concerned. Everything was perfectly planned and executed. My only con is that I want them to plan another one next weekend, so I can beat my time today. I would highly recommend beginner runners to register for the event. It was a lot of fun and a wonderful course!
