The first time a came here, Chris welcomed me as a walk-in and did a great job understanding and delivering the look I was going for. Reasonable pricing too. My hair is thick and although it's not super curly, it's more than wavy. I asked for a 1.5 length, high taper fade and asked that he leave enough length (slightly longer than finger length) at the top and front so I can style it. He asked if I wanted him to clean up my hairline and I let him know I'd prefer it however, in the past, when I explain my haircut to some new barbers, they for some reason decide to shave the entire side of my head down a 1.5 like the typical soccer player look people have trended toward in recent years. When it grows out, there's too strong of a distinction between the length where I part to the right and the bussed section. Or they'll fade well but dig into my hairline- pushing back my hairline, sideburns, or the lining of my temple area. Chris didn't do any of this. He listened and made sure to showcase his craft in a smooth & timely process. It's a bonus that he makes easy conversation. Their location in Castro Valley has a more intimate setting so booking in advance is recommended, rather than attempting to walk in. When trying to locate a credible legitimate barber there are a few things you should take into consideration when making your final decision. 1) Location. (Is the barbershop in a safe area of the city). Don't want to have to worry about getting mugged when doing something as simple as grooming. 2)Professionalism. (I don't know about you, but I can't have no wishy washy barber. Coming late to appointments, double booking appointments, trying to squeeze in a walk-in "right quick", eating or talking on the phone. All of the above is unacceptable. I need my barbers undivided attention so we can avoid any minor setbacks, screw ups, or accidents. Can my potential new barber work with my schedule?) 3) Barber Track Record. (Who is this guy?. Do a little research via Yelp, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter. I'm sure you'll find some pics of the barbers work. From there you can really see if the guy is real deal or some apprentice still learning his niche). 4) Personality & Behavior. (Might not seem too important but it is. Your not going to pay to get a haircut by someone who is angry all the time, dropping F bombs every 2 minutes, talking about X X X rated stuff and etc. Plenty of customers have children and bring their children with them, so having a vulgar barber could be an immediate red flag for some). So there you have it. A few tips on selecting a legitimate barber. With that being said, Chris at Blended Styles is the epitome of a solid, legit, well rounded, gifted barber. "He has bars". Found this place on YELP. Super glad I did because the barber did a great job on my son's hair. My son went in with a mullet (that's what he called it) and came out a fresh skin fade. Unfortunately, I didn't get his name but there's only 2 of them and it's the guy closest to the television. I will definitely be back. I also appreciated that when we went in, there were quite a few people waiting so the guy (the who's chair is closest to the door) came and told me that he wouldn't be able to get to my son for a couple of hours so he told us that he can schedule us at a certain time so we didn't have to wait around for so long. This was actually my first visit to a proper barbershop, believe it or not.. And it was great! The shop is walking distance from my apartment complex, and totally worth the value. For $25 I got my hair and beard done, and its hands down the best its ever looked. It was nice having a barber to talk to about stuff I love talking about: The Warriors! After my current barber moved to a different shop I was in dire need of finding a new place to get a cut.. and fast. Luckily I stumbled upon Chris' spot and called him up. He said he was busy during the time I requested, but was flexible and made time for me after picking up his children. The location is simple yet elegant, has its own parking lot, and is very clean. Tiffani was very patient with my tender headed daughter. Usually as soon as a stylist starts coming the tears start, and then when the blow dryer hits - forget it!!! Tiffani was gentle and really took her time. She even told my daughter to tell her if it starts to hurt so that she could be even more gentle. Saw this place on yelp so I decided to stop by after a trip to Oakland airport. Not being from the area, it was a little hard to find parking at first but I shortly discovered a rear parking lot so that was a plus. As soon as I walked in I was immediately greeted with hellos from the staff as well as other customers. I was lucky enough to get a spot right away being a walk in and got right at it. My barber was extremely nice and kept great conversation while working his magic on my hair. After it was all done, I asked for how much it would cost and I was astonished when it was only 25$. I definitely thought it would be more because of the quality and experience required. I tipped well and will definitely make the 30 minute drive again back to this shop in the future (with an appointment this time haha). read more
