Went here for a simple dead end trim with front framing layers and I left with the most uneven blunt cut hair EVER. The layers don't even match in the front. The stylist was just cutting the back of my head free hand and ended up taking off 5 inches. It's honestly just so horrible I have to wear my hair up. I have been going here for years to get my hair blown out every week. Once a month, I do a deep conditioning treatment. Christina is my main stylist and my back up would be Raj and they are both amazing. I also like the fact that the salon stays open late and most likely it would be Raj who is there. After passing by this salon numerous times, I finally decided to give it a try based on a recommendation from Yelp. My experience was quite positive. A staff member kindly took my jacket to hang for me and offered something to protect my clothes. Gina washed my hair using fruity-smelling products. I opted for Jessica who worked there for 7 years, and the quoted rate for shampoo and blow dry was $40. The total came to $45 after taxes and a credit card transaction fee. The staff patiently attended to me and restroom access was available. With a larger staff at this location, your chances of receiving assistance are higher. I was grateful for option of hair products, especially since I had flyaways. I also appreciated that she didn't simply spray my hair but used a different method instead. As for improvement, it would be beneficial to have something to cover the eyes during services, as product did get on my eyelid. This is a common issue in many salons. I beg of any one Not to use the salon on Lexington Ave. I had services done after explaining what I wanted. only roots and NOT Black. I went to a nice person but he was not the colorist. The color by NOELl was done HORRIBLE! I end up with patchy highlights and chunk of hair pulled from my scalp ! When I've addressed these issues about quality of his service he become agitated, interrupting, talking over me in loud voice , defensive! I think in his mind he is a Picasso of hair colorists . I come here for blowouts regularly. I find it very easy to get in whether you call or walk in. I have been seeing Anna and I think she does a great job (and I'm particular). I normally go to Dry Bar and I get my cut and color at very high end salons. I find the prices to be very reasonable and you are in and out. It's a "no frills", busy atmosphere. I visited Blue Ciel Salon this past weekend and had an appointment with Jasmine. My natural hair is medium brown and pretty curly in texture. I wanted a mulled wine/deep red balayage but I did not want to bleach or lift my hair because I was nervous to disrupt my natural curl pattern. Jasmine listened to all of my concerns and explained that without lifting, the result may not be as vibrant as I would like. She asked a lot of questions about my hair type and really wanted to make sure she knew everything possible before diving in and starting the process. I told her that my hair was free of hair dye and other chemicals, so she had a feeling it would pick up the dye pretty well without bleaching it; she said if it didn't, we could go back in at a later date and make sure to lift the hair first. She is very knowledgeable and really knows what she is talking about. She made me feel comfortable enough where I trusted her judgement 100% and decided to go in with just the dye. She also made sure to create a color that worked with my skin tone, eyes, and natural hair color. We were both pleasantly surprised with how vibrant the result was! She gave me a trim, blow-out, and curled my hair exactly how I pictured it in my head. I am so beyond happy with how my hair came out, and it is safe to say I found my new go-to salon and stylist. Not fun writing this review but maybe it will save future visitors. The worst color job that I've ever received in my life, from Carmen. I normally go to my colorist @ Mure Salon (the best there is, period) but he was unavailable and I wanted to just touch up and slightly blend my roots. She was very clear that this was a process and I was only expecting a soft more blonde effect on my roots. Not a full head of bleach that turned into a nightmare. Needless to say, there's a reason why you let a professional touch your hair and the other not. I would never recommend a color from this salon and per her response, "no reason to freak out and the color is natural, all we have to do is shampoo it". However, my hair cut by Raj was and is always superb. The best in the industry. Biggest issues and reason for this 911: 1. My scalp burned and turned bright red 2. My hair was lifted uneven and the tone was uneven, off and just horrible. 3. My hair is half yellow and half purple 4. Haircut was $45, total cost was $228, so I was charge $183 to get my head fried, turned yellow, purple and splotchy :) read more

Went in on a whim because I needed a root touch up before a trip I'm taking next weekend and I couldn't get in with my regular hairdresser. I asked for crown foil "baby lights" and instead I have chunks of platinum blonde and chunks of brassy blonde. Streaks are not clean and start about a half inch from my scalp. I don't even think a toner was used? I wouldn't even consider my roots touched up and it felt as though my hair was burning off the entire time. The gentleman that serviced my hair also tried to upsell me on an Olaplex mask (one that I own at home) as well as a gloss treatment. He also dried my hair prior to cutting and there was literal smoke coming off of my hair as he dried it. I skipped the cut, paid, and left. Completely inexperienced and way overpriced for what I just went through. I'll now have to go to another salon to get this fixed. Would not recommend going here. Really wish I could get my money back. read more

Dont go to this salon unless you want your hair stopped out of your head from a team of unprofessional stylists getting your hair stuck in round brushes, unable to find a blow dryer to do a simple blow out and unable to honor an appointment made fir a specific time. I had an appointment made days in advance for a blow out. I was passed over to 3 different so called stylist for my blow out. The first stylist asked me I was in a rush or could I wait while she put color in a woman's hair. I said I made an appointment for a specific time and no, I did not have time to sit around waiting with my hair wet. she proceeded to pull and yank on my blonde hair getting it caught in round brushes and leaving it in my hair and having another stylist take over. This stylist began ripping my hair out of the brush until I stopped her and I gently removed my hair. then stylist number three came along and smashed my head hard with brushes, burning my scalp with the blow dryer on very high heat and my hair looked like a mop when I left. Horrible Experience. They charged me $40 for this. I am grieving this charge with my credit card. This is the lowest level salon a person could go to. The place is dirty, brushes are not sanitized between clients and they don't know how to use a round brush, a blow dryer or how to be professional and honor an appointment. read more

My niece had visited this establishment and one of the hairstylists had called her cheap because she declined a blow dry by the 'stylist' with an attitude. This is no way to treat a teenager. You should be ashamed of yourselves. She didn't even like her hair cut, and was not listened to when she asked for a specific cut, yet she was elegant enough to leave a tip. I'm coming back to him every three weeks for my haircut and color, and I'm so happy about it! He does amazing color for me, he is the only one who know how to handle my resistant grays, but make my color look really natural! Also I have to say, that he is really crazy about haircuts as well! Yikes! Where to start... This salon somehow managed to do everything incorrectly start to finish and after trying to patiently resolve with them they completely ghosted me. I'm writing this to warn others to stay away. You don't want to go through what I did, trust me! First-the color. Asked for a few highlights, a natural blond and a touch up. As the photos show, I got HUGE CHUNKS put in my hair, not only that, but they were laid down unevenly leaving blank patches as well as gaps from where the color started down the hair shaft. Next, and I didn't know this was possible, one side of my head, left vs. right, was blonder than the other!? 2nd-the cut. Again, asked just for a trim. I have long hair slightly angled in the front. I got 3" lopped off as well as a huge chunk (again with the chunks!) taken out of one front side leaving me horribly butchered. I left the salon in a hurry as I needed to travel and it had been curled so I couldn't tell at the time. I should have been worried when it seems like the colorist was training the woman who cut my hair but the colorist kept insisting she was a great stylist. I should have been notified/asked if someone less experienced was cutting my hair. The minute I got home and took a look at what had gone on up there I was horrified. Friends and family were asking what happened (without me saying anything) and I had to wear it in a braid with a weird part every day so you couldn't see all the issues. 3rd-Most importantly the service. Because every step of the process was done wrong technically, I didn't feel comfortable going back to them and wanted to go elsewhere to fix. (Poor skills cannot be fixed and fool me once...) I contacted my stylist and let her know what happened, we have a mutual contact who recommended her (awkward!) so I was treading very lightly, didn't want to hurt feelings, just wanted a refund to move on with my life. She said they don't offer refunds, I could come back in which given how bad everything went, not an option. I could contact the manager which I did, called and was told the owner would contact me. Never called. Again called and asked if owner was planning to be in touch-radio silence. This is your business and you can't be bothered to return a call when something as personal and as obvious as hair is on the line. It was bad enough walking through the world embarrassed but then to have no recourse to resolve it? I work in customer service and when a customer has an issue, whether our fault or not, we bend over backwards for them, it's what you do. I can't believe their policy is "We screw up as much as we want and you live with it, no backsies!." The next week I went to Headdress in the East Village to fix it. Look them up on insta, their colorists and stylists are amazing and you'll leave with your head held high, not in a braid with a weird part to hide the shame. read more

On the day I visited this salon, my fiance and I planned to go to City Hall to be married after dating for exactly 13 years. I made an early morning appointment at another salon in the area (shaggy hair) but when I arrived the salon was closed and no employees were present. I quickly found this place as the only other option in the area that was open at 9am. When I arrived I was the only person there and was quickly started on a blowout and a bang trim. The shampoo was fine. When I got to the seat the hairdresser (who I will not refer to by name because she never gave it to me) began roughly brushing out my hair. She then moved to separate my bangs from the rest of my hair. I explained that I do not want blunt bangs, I prefer half-moon bangs that are longer on the sides. She began gathering up all of my bangs and twisting them together. I knew that she was going to twist them together and hack them all off as I have had this done to me before and the results were disastrous. When I noticed what she was doing I tried to stop her and get her to release some of the hair on the sides but she fought with me, blaming me for having a bad previous cut (it wasn't). She released a few of the side bangs and then proceeded to hack away at the bunch of hair that she had twisted up in her grasp. The result was right on the border of being too short. Instead of being meticulous and trimming slowly she chopped a huge amount off and left zero room for fixing any errors. She then chopped my side bangs that I specifically asked her to not touch. While she did it she told me that she knew best and that this needed to happen. She did not listen to my wishes at all. Then she went in to texture my bangs. Normally the stylist will go in with tiny tiny little cuts at the bottom to add movement. No. This woman LAYERED MY BANGS. She pointed her scissors down and started thinning out my bangs at least AN INCH UP from the bottom. The result is lop-sided. LAYERED. And un-even. ON MY WEDDING DAY. At one point she said something like "it's not great. I could do better." GREAT. Don't even get me started on the blowout. I've given myself better blowouts than that. She basically pointed a hairdryer at my head until it was almost dry. She then went in with a round brush and violently pulled the hair around, often blowing the hot air up the shaft instead of down. I have thick hair and normally the stylist separates it into at least three sections when blowdrying or curling. This woman did none of that. This lack of care resulted in a blowout that barely lasted 3 hours (not long enough to outlast the wait at City Hall) At one point I thought to myself "Is this woman drunk?" "Did she just watch Edward Scissorhands and decide to give hairstyling a go?" I did get married that day, regardless of my ridiculous hacked bangs or my limp blowout, because in the long run those things do not matter. But I am obviously very upset and angry about the quality of the services provided, the "stylist's" attitude, the way she rushed through the blowout, and her obvious lack of knowledge. It will forever be a bad memory on a day that was supposed to be filled with joy. Again, I was not told her name but she was the only female hair dresser working at 9am on Monday 4/3/17. Brown hair. I walked in for the first time with dry dead hair, and walked out to life again!!! Raj is one of a kind! Not only is he the kindest, funniest, person to be around, but his talent speaks for itself! I've never had a better salon experience than here with Jasmine. I've been somewhat accustomed to hair disasters in NYC-- you just never know. But I got highlights from Jasmine this weekend, and I've never been happier. As a brunette with layers growing out, I wanted to do something to give my hair a little more depth. She listened to my concerns, and gave me exactly what I wanted. She worked with me until we got the color right, and we started with a lighter toner color and then went darker until I was comfortable. The highlights are so subtle and complement my haircut (or lack thereof, since quarantine) really well. Jasmine also gave me tips to care for the hair. Went here on a whim. I normally am very committed to my usual stylist but they were closed and i decided to step out of my comfort zone and try something new. I showed the owner what i was looking to get and he paired me with a stylist he thought would be good for me. I'm so happy i was assigned to Christina. She is so nice and fun to talk to. I really wanted something different and went shorter than usual and wanted to try bangs. She was very precise to make sure i liked it. I really love the cut! Love this Salon but asking the manager why I was charged $10 extra for the stylist to use the curling iron? This does not make sense to me. She uses the blow dryer just to basically get the water out then the iron so is it a using power issue? I am pretty annoyed at this and would love to hear the reason behind it. Unprofessional to have stylist hold clips in his mouth and then put in my hair. Don't ruin the entire blowout telling me I need a trim when I had one week prior. Don't make decisions for one shampoo when I've mentioned I had a lot of leave in product in my hair, and then tell me one shampoo was good enough. Pay attention to dryer and don't burn my scalp or bang me in the head with it. read more

I visited Bianca for a toner, cut and blowout. She asked so many questions to make sure my color and cut turned out perfectly! I love the color and the cut is exactly as I wanted. My blowout is bouncy and shiny; I got so many compliments at work today! Bianca seemed to really take her time to make sure I was satisfied, and continued to check in with me throughout the process. Do not go for Keratin treatment. I went in the first time the treatment didn't work. First wash at home, hair looked the same as before. Called & complained they were very nice & asked me to come back for a redo. Went back, went through the whole process again with a very big promise that the first treatment was not strong enough but the 2nd treatment will work. 5 hours later. Nothing changed. Hair is dry, frizzy, looks burnt. I have had keratin done before, I know what good procedures look like. At Blue Ciel you will come out looking worse. Excuse given " sorry dear didn't work as unexpected". $220 + $ 70 = waste of time & effort at this salon. If you want a cheap & quick blow dry yes. For good efficient & long lasting looks DONOT go to Blue Ciel. Not worth it. read more

Raj is THE MAN! Consistently the best haircut my pixie head has ever had. This shiny new serene little jewel of a salon is going to be impossible to get into as soon as the word gets out, so GO NOW! He really is the very best, and I've tried them all, from the top guys who charge $700, to the old fashioned men's barbers, and everything in between... no one comes close to Raj's beautiful work. Everyone who works there is lovely (shampoo HEAVEN!) and, though I only ever go to Raj to cut my hair, anyone who's trained under him would be someone I'd trust.
